Re: Review: 3DS Circle Pad Pro

Usagi-san

I hate how every time this CPP comes up somebody is soooo certain that there's going to be a redesign with a second stick in the future. Last time I checked this was an unfounded rumour.

To be honest the review could have done without without slipping into rumours and I groaned when it was mentioned. Any article that says they're pretty sure Nintendo is going to add a second circle pad better be able to back up what they're saying with strong evidence.

Re: Round Table: Looking Ahead to Nintendo in 2012

Usagi-san

Why do people insist the 3ds needs another anologue stick? I really don't see it. Must be a FPS player thing.

I just hope they don't do a redesign and make games that are "dual anologue stick control only". That would have me seriously peeved if it was a game I was interested in.

Re: Turn Your Retro Cartridges Into ROMS, Legally

Usagi-san

@Muzer: Your example is poor. Nintendo by law has the right to control how their IP is copied and distributed whereas nobody has the right to tell you to kill yourself (unless you're a samurai in fuedal japan).

Copyright law seems less moronic when you're working in a creative field and need to protect your work. If you're an artist it prevents people from using your artwork without permission which when stolen can mean a real loss of income if you're in the business of creating artwork commercially.

Re: Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011

@nmhbm: "Beside the obvious fact that 1 pirated copy is not equal to 1 less copy sold (because it was not stolen, it was COPIED), "

Actually it is equal to 1 less copy sold. If someone interested in the product doesn't buy the genuine thing but downloads the rom instead that is one sale lost. The fact that is was copied is irrelevent.

As an example, If a customer service person keeps alienating customers they won't want to buy from that business. While the business hasn't lost anything physical what they have lost are potential sales from the purchases those customers would have made if their experiences were satisfactory.

If the aforementioned hypothetical business didn't do something to improve customer satisfaction they would lose money and be unsuccessful.

In the same way if somebody downloads a ROM Nintendo would lose the potential sale that customer would have made if the rom wasn't available. So Nintendo still loses money. Does that make any sense?

Illegal copies of games supporting other criminal activities is actually really easy to explain if you think about it. Being free they are very cheap to produce and sell so a crook could make a nice profit to support their other activities by selling them to people who don't care if they're illegit or just don't know they're not genuine.

Re: Turn Your Retro Cartridges Into ROMS, Legally

Definately grey. This may not be legal in some countries ( Backing up games that is ).
I'm looking at the legal section of the Australian Nintendo site that states the provisions to make backup copies of computer games is not applicable to nintendo games.

Re: Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011

@Ren: "I guarantee no one is trying to pirate Angry Birds or even things like the 'Art Style" games because they've taken steps towards new concepts at prices people can afford."
Actually you'd be wrong about that. I can almost guarantee that despite their efforts to make them affordable they are still being pirated.

I'm glad the general consensus is "pirating is bad". It's almost stomach churning when you meet someone who downloads the latest pirated games regularly and has no intention of ever paying for them. It's even worse when they think their thievery makes them "smarter" than others.

Re: Aonuma: "We'll See" About Zelda Voice Acting

Usagi-san

I don't think there's anything wrong with what they're doing at the moment really. However Dragon Quest 8 managed to use voice acting and keep the protagonist silent, the big issue I have with voice acting is that it's not always very good.
There are some japanese games where the english voice acting is so atrocious I just turn it on to Japanese so I can't tell if they're doing a bad job or not.

Re: PETA - Relax Mario Fans, It Was All a Joke

Usagi-san

If it was meant to be a joke it was in really poor taste and I don't think anyone else was laughing.

Sounds more to me like "Oh great it looks like we ticked some people off and are losing support, quick! act like it was all a joke!"

Re: PETA - Relax Mario Fans, It Was All a Joke

Usagi-san

Principal: Ok, Peta tell me why you punched Nintendo in the face?
Peta: It was a joke Mr. Principal. Honest, I never "meant" to hurt him (wraps arm round Nintendo's shoulder awkwardly)
Nintendo: (under his breath) Like #@!$ it was...

Re: Next Zelda on 3DS a "Continuation of Past Efforts" says Aonuma

Usagi-san

So if their only efforts on the Nintendo 3DS have been a 3D remake isn't it obvious he's referring to another remake and not a continuation of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks? The aforesaid games were all for the DS so if the 3DS is a successor to the DS and not another iteration isn't the 3DS a differant platform?

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation Rainfall

Usagi-san

I can't understand this. There are a multitude of games that get released in Japan and are never seen elsewhere, we can't have everything we want.

I don't think this campaign is going to have any kind of an effect either. Think about it, if nintendo bowed to the pressure of fans they would set a precedent for others to do the same thing. We may think it's their job to please us but they still need to make money and not everything that sells in Japan will be successful elsewhere (Like Dragon Quest). At the end of the day Nintendo still needs to be the one in control too. They can't just localize a game because a bunch of people saw it on the internet and think they'd like to play it.

I don't understand why people think that they should be able to demand something and have it handed to them.

Re: Actually, Square Enix is Not Considering Dragon Quest X for Wii U

Usagi-san

When I heard it might be released on the Wii U I thought it might be even longer before we see it.

I just wish there was more info though, please tell me they're going back to random encounters like in dragon quest 8. It's just not as terrifying when your party is half dead and you can see the monster to run away.

Re: Games Do More Damage Than Passive Smoking, says Doctor

Usagi-san

I agree that violent games have an impact. The problem occurs when kids are exposed to violent video games when they are too young to play them. Seeing a twelve year old kid with a gun fixation because his favourite game is Halo is a creepy, scary kind of feeling.

Games are like movies and books; there are some they should never see untill they grow up.

Re: Masuda: Playing Pokémon is All About Being Heroic and Fair

Usagi-san

Rift, I always thought the pokemon games had an interesting mix of the modern and old in their games.

As for playing as the baddies, it's probably best players don't.
Could you Imagine the uproar from pokemon haters? They'd easily argue pokemon is bad for kids if the player was allowed to play as a criminal organisation that has been know to abuse pokemon in past games.

Re: Work Out With Your Own UFC Personal Trainer This June

Usagi-san

I find this slightly pointless. Even if it's just intended for health nothing beats a real teacher. It might even be worse since the moves are taught out of the context of a martial arts school, do they seriously think that if they show a kid how to fight (even as exercise) he/she isn't going to try it out with his mates? On a positive note maybe it will generate some interest in the real thing.

Re: DSiWare Users Going Back to BASIC with PetitComputer

Usagi-san

Have I said how much I'd love this to get an English release? The website has been updated since this article to include movies of the samples. I don't read Japanese but I definately like what I see. I'll be very VERY disappointed if this never makes it to an Australian release, there is so much potential for awesomeness.

Re: DSiWare Users Going Back to BASIC with PetitComputer

Usagi-san

This had better get released in Australia. I might just be inspired to learn some programming, I did mess around with small basic for a little while but this is probably a whole other beast. It could be fun though, making games you can play on your DS, what Nintendo fan HASN'T dreamt of doing that.
