I’m still going to get it because I’ve been wanting to replay it since I was 14 years old.
But man.. they are making this really complicated for no good reason. It still works for me because I literally have no friends who like this sort of game. But I can see where this is a huge inconvenience for others.
It’s not surprising. The only two Metroids that were true sales success stories were Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. The others made their money back, but not much else.
@LinktotheFuture I agree with that but eventually things will go back to normal (well maybe not in my country since it’s run by morons) and local multiplayer through wireless should be available for the Switch and mobile versions.
I’d rather they take their time. I haven’t even played 2.
I played the first one on Xbox 360 (it was one of the last 360 games I purchased before I traded it for a PS3) and absolutely adored it.
The issue is that I have more than a few games in my Switch backlog to finish. Dragon Quest XI, Pokemon Shield (I’m not at the post game yet and haven’t even played the DLC I bought), Celeste, and a few others. Plus Fortnite sucks up a lot of my free time every week. So much so that I’ve actually assigned myself a calendar to rotate the games properly.
This isn’t a deal breaker for me personally. None of my friends like this type of game. I put in 200 hours on the GameCube version by myself when I was a teen but I always wanted to experience the multiplayer. So online play is a must for me.
I will admit that this seems overly lazy though. I could see the PS4 version lacking local multiplayer (the multiplayer game is built around each player having their own UI) and I don’t blame them for cutting single system couch coop for the same reason on Switch. But there should be local wireless multiplayer for the Mobile/Switch versions. There’s no excuse that it was cut.
Super Metroid is an absolute masterpiece and still one of the greatest games ever made. My only complaint about that game is that the controls have a steep learning curve and don't make a lot of sense at first. I feel like Fusion and Zero Mission improved on it in the control department, but went backwards everywhere else.
My personal favorite is Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
I buy digital on switch due to the fact that Nintendo’s card cover is fragile as hell. I’m scared I’m going to break it just pulling it up. I have two physical games (Links Awakening and Smash) only because they were on sale for a price I couldn’t resist.
But on the next gen consoles they need to still have physical drives. There are millions of people like me who live in rural areas and have pretty slow internet access. The Switch isn’t an issue; I just pack it with me and use public wifi, plus most Switch games aren’t very large. But it’s a bit harder to pack up a PS4. And PS5 game sizes are going to increase; 100+ gig installs will be the norm in this upcoming generation.
I would support going all digital for home consoles if they would allow us a secondary method to download our games. For example, if I could buy the game on the web through my MacBook and download it there, put it on a flash drive, and then copy it to Playstation/Xbox.
I haven’t had any drift issues yet. Then again I barely use the joy cons. I have two sets (My originals are gray; I found the extra Yellow set on sale for 40.00 bucks for a pair and had to have them for that steal of a price) but they rarely get used. This is mainly because 90% of my playtime is docked. I very rarely play handheld or tabletop. I’ve had my Switch V2 since December.
I beat Mario Odyssey with the grey joycons mainly because that is how that game is meant to be played. Every other game, I use the Pro Controller (except for Super Mario Party but I only own it because of that Mario sale back earlier in the year).
I think the RAM is the main thing holding the Switch back from a technical standpoint.
The SOC is fine for what Nintendo was trying to do. Would I prefer something more powerful? Yes of course but they had to balance cooling, efficiency, and power in ways that Microsoft and Sony don’t have to worry about as much. As it stands, the Tegra X1 is fine.
But the RAM needs an upgrade. I think that’s the bottleneck for why we don’t see more PS4/X1 ports and also why the load times can be bad on certain games. LPDDR4 is SLOW as molasses these days and 4GB isn’t enough. They should have shipped it with 8GB and ate the costs. Memory prices are fickle, but in general they go down over time. 8GB would have done wonders for the system.

@JayJ
Yepp. It’s dealing with one of Michael Jackson’s producers who worked on the game.
Apparently it’s just the Sonic 3 half that is the problem. From what I understand the S&K half doesn’t use any of his music.

As a huge Metroid fan it makes me sad.

How about Sonic 3 & Knuckles first Sega.
