@EOTW I mean sure, the story was no Christopher Nolan masterpiece but it was at least something, most Pokemon games don't even try. I enjoyed the story in Sun/Moon for what it was. But you definitely have me at a loss for words on HMs. I don't know how anyone could possibly miss them, that is quite baffling to me. But oh well, fair enough I suppose. No sense in arguing about it. We don't all have to like the same things after all
@EOTW Sun and Moon were definitely better than X/Y. Gen 6 was an awkward transitional phase from 2D to 3D. All of the assets were rendered in 3D but it still played like the 2D games, making for pretty awkward traversal.
Sun and Moon on the other hand had omnidirectional movement as opposed to being rigid and grid based like X/Y. And the improvements go beyond just the controls Sun/Moon also removed HMs, replacing them with Pokemon ride, it had a deeper and more involved story as well. Really just about anyway you look at it gen 7 was a huge improvement over gen 6
@frabbit What is a better alternative then? To arbitrarily dock points for not living up to modern standards? Despite releasing in 1998? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense either, You have to score a game based on when it came out and the system it came out for. And for an N64 game that came out in 1998 Banjo Kazooie is absolutely a 10/10
Alright, show us on the doll where 12 Minutes touched you.
In all seriousness though this review does come off as a tad bit hyperbolic. "Playing the game is like playing punchout with actual boxing gloves". No, no it's not. It's not like that at all. I'm not really sure what the point in a comment like this is. It's not constructive criticism. It's just criticism for the sake of criticism. I understand the reviewer didn't enjoy the game but what I don't really understand is WHY the reviewer didn't enjoy the game. This reads more like an incoherent rant than a well constructed opinion
This was actually a really great year for Switch despite it being a little soft on the 1st party side. That is due in part to both Monster Hunter Rise and Stories doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Overall though I'd give the Switch an 8 out of 10 this year, but if we're talking purely 1st party then its probably closer to a 7
@wazlon Nah you're definitely not alone. There are plenty of people disappointed with Odyssey, they just aren't all that vocal about it. And when they are vocal about it they get downvoted into oblivion
@Klobb For as good as Odyssey is it's way too bloated. 999 power moons is nothing short of excessive. Its like the blue coins from Sunshine amplified by 10. Not too mention most of those moons are acquired by retreading through old levels you've already played or through an arbitrary achievement system. Odyssey could have benefited greatly by exercising some restraint
1. Mario 64 2. Galaxy 3. Galaxy 2 4. Sunshine 5. Odyssey 6. 3D World 7. 3D Land
Odyssey is very good but ridiculously overrated imo. 3D Land and World are more polished than something like Sunshine but lack any sort of personality and feel very bland/factory made, easily my least favorites of the bunch. The Galaxies have both creativity and polish and Mario 64 is just immaculate and I don't think it will ever be topped for me personally
@Ulysses For literally any other video game franchise that would be considered a spinoff lol. I don't quite understand why it's different for MH but, I digress. It's all just semantics at the end of the day. And regardless if Rise is mainline or a spinoff it looks really good and I know I'll be picking it up day one
@Ulysses When Capcom says Rise "isn't a spinoff" that leads me to believe that it's a mainline entry. Which if it's a mainline entry then that also leads me to believe it's MH6. It's kind of self implied
@Ulysses I guess that's one way of looking at it? I won't say you're necessarily wrong but either way Rise definitely isn't Monster Hunter 6. Despite whatever lingo Capcom wants to use
@Ulysses Right, but that means that the A team isn't working on Rise, which also means the A team is likely working on something else. Possibly a follow up to World? Seems likely after how much World sold
Which if that's the case then calling Rise a "mainline entry" seems a little disingenuous. Even if it does turn out to be rather excellent
So it's not considered a spinoff but it IS being developed by the Monster Hunter B Team. The team that made Generations and Generations Ultimate, Not World or any of the numbered entries. Idk, KIND OF sounds like marketing mumbo jumbo to me

Dang y'all need to chill on SMT V. The real snub here is Monster Hunter Stories 2

Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2021 Is 'It Takes Two' By Hazelight Studios
@Edu23XWiiU I don't see how Deathloop winning best game direction debunks anything I said. It's not like Metroid won it
Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2021 Is 'It Takes Two' By Hazelight Studios
@Edu23XWiiU At least It Takes Two is actually doing something different from a game design stand point.
I love Metroid Dread as much as anyone but it's not really doing anything new. It's just a really good Metroid game

Re: It's Been Three Years Since We First Embarked On A Super Mario Odyssey
I thought Odyssey was great until I went back recently to replay it and realized none of the moons were actually all that fun to get.
I get the feeling that Odyssey just isn't going to be as fondly remembered as 64, the Galaxy games, or even Sunshine
Re: Poll: What Was The Best Switch Launch Game (That Wasn't Zelda: Breath Of The Wild)?
When you remove BotW from the equation you realize just how pants the launch lineup really was

Re: Feature: Every 3D Super Mario Game Ranked
For me it goes:
1. Mario 64
2. Galaxy
3. Galaxy 2
4. Sunshine
5. Odyssey
6. 3D World
7. 3D Land
Odyssey is very good but ridiculously overrated imo. 3D Land and World are more polished than something like Sunshine but lack any sort of personality and feel very bland/factory made, easily my least favorites of the bunch.
