The figure that stood out the most was Paper Mario being higher than OoT. Also, Mega Man 3 wasn't in the top 20, but 1 and 2 were. I was happy to see Mario Bros on the list, as that's one of my favorite arcade games ever.
How hard is it for a company in the gaming industry to post a profit the following year after a year in the red? Has Sony or Microsoft ever posted a loss in their gaming divisions?
I don't understand why they support the handheld system with the franchise, but not the home console. I'm not going to claim to know anything about what goes into developing a game, but it seem odd that they wouldn't focus on a brand new system and instead stick with the old ones.
It's hard to argue with this article. I've been blown away by each of the home console Mario titles when they came out. Even Sunshine was impressive, although it didn't really have the wow factor that the other games had, but it was still there. The Galaxy games are the best Mario titles I've played, and I'm a die-hard retro gamer, almost to a fault.
Brings back memories of those good Mickey games on the SNES. Seeing how so many of us are drawn to Scrooge, maybe a developer should consider creating a new Duck Tales game.
I don't find SMB3 or SMW to be very difficult at all, especially SMW with it's infinite supply of lives and the cape and Yoshi help out a lot. SMB on the other hand gives me trouble a lot of the time.
Big name titles don't get three months of advertising before release. Seems like there were articles about Mario 3D for months and months before it was released, so it seems to me that this is ficticious.
To answer the question, I think an RPG would be cool. Mario RPG worked out pretty well.
Businesses always need to evolve and strive for greatness, even if they're at the top. Kobe Bryant is so driven by winning and promoting his brand that all of his success isn't good enough for him and he wants more. It sounds like he believes he has a prophetic vision of what will happen if Japanese gaming doesn't step it up, using words like, "It will be too late when our brands no longer hold sway."
If I have the choice of seeing someone in person or Skyping with them, I'm obviously going to prefer seeing someone in person, but I'll Skype if it's the only option, which is what we're faced with today. The concerns brought up in the article are valid. It seems to me that it's another way to see what we're doing at all times. Usage of digital media can be monitored in a cloud service and if someone does something violent in person, it can be used as a smear tactic on the gaming industry.
Also, Why are games more expensive today when they're giving us less content in the form of physical materials?
I've never broken a sweat playing the Wii, not even with the Fit games. The only physical strain I've put on my body was my elbows killing me from the baseball game.
Not that it affects life in any significant way, but I'd be upset if my record was beat by such a small margin. At least beat me by two seconds or something.
If people haven't downloaded it by now, I'm sure there isn't going to be an outcry of angry gamers. If you have an NES, this game is readily available.
As someone who prefers the classic consoles, I'll never grow tired of Perfect Dark multiplayer with my friends. Order a pizza, some soda and go for it.
Cheating in racing games should never be tolerated as the course is designed a specific way. You don't see F-1 racers cutting across the grass to get to the other side. If you're playing "competitively", there should be an honor system in place. The glitch in Goldeneye where you can climb up in the vent should only be used if the person up there is camping out. Cowardly acts deserve dirty reprecussions. You shouldn't be able to claim you beat Contra if you used the code. That's not cheating, but it's like saying you won a foot race with a six year old.
PETA has ran out of things to do. Where were they 20 years ago on this issue? They have served their purpose, raised awareness, but now they're just phishing for things to complain about. Go away!
It has to come down to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Banjo Kazooie is my favorite N64 game, but FPS are incredibly popular today and these two games had just as much fan fare in my little world growing up. Another equation is "all meat sims + unarmed = beat the meat"
Great topic. The idea of waves being in 3D in Wave Race 64 has a certain appeal. To the money grab people, I'd say this. The older you get, the more set in your ways you become, and you want familiarity. That's why our parents bought cassettes of the records they owned, then bought CD's of the cassettes that they now have on their Ipod. Same stuff that can be played on fully functional hardware, but you get the nostalgia on a modern device. It's also good for gaming to have people, like the article stated, get into games that may have been before their time.
Since there is no Mega Man Legends 3, make at least the first one 3D. Blast Corps seems like it would be interesting too. Would every Rare games be excluded?
Mega Man Legends came out, but there wasn't an exclusive N64 release of a Mega Man game, which really upset me. The lack of 2D side scrollers is a head scratcher. I know 3D was the next big thing, but why not have some 2D games?
Banjo Kazooie is my favorite game on the N64 and is in my top 5 games of all time. I really like Perfect Dark though. I still play it with my friends today.
I got my SNES in 1992 and it's cracked and discolored, but fires up every time. I still play it frequently because I feel it has the best selection of games. My favorite genres are platformers and beatemups so the SNES fits the bill perfectly.
I don't really think about Samus' gender while I'm playing the games. I think Samus would be an awesome character if she was a he. I've seen games try to sexify the female role, like Heavenly Sword or even as early as Chun Li and Cammie with their disproportions and it just doesn't do it for me in the way (I think) they're trying to.
I think this is the best Metroid game. In fact, it's my favorite game on the system. I'm actually playing it right now on the GCN. All of the complaints about ammo and the dark world add to the strategy for me, but I can see where that would frustrate someone who got used to the infinite ammo of the first game. It's not that hard to refill your ammo though. The only boss I really find aggrevating is the boost ball Ing. Usually the dark world fights have light beacons around, but not with this guy. Ridley is a nightmare too. The first time I played it I remember getting really pissed off trying to navigate and finding the Sky Temple keys can be a pain.
I agree that the initial price of the 3DS was arrogant. Nintendo tries so hard to be innovative that they forget to produce decent games on a regular basis. The launch titles were less than inspiring for me to render a purchase. Personally, I only buy Nintendo consoles for their first-party titles, but that's not enough for me anymore. It's been a while since we've experienced a console flop, and there really isn't any reason why we should ever again, but I'm thinking this may be a flopper.
Nintendo should have put on the Wii box that there is a downloadable service. I like how they started offering demos because, as mentioned, there isn't a lot of info on the games. At least include a video on the Shop. I totally agree that Nintendo should have made a Metroid or Mario game.
A nice game to launch with for sure. Suprisingly, the second game is way worse in just about every way compared to this game. This game has to be cheap because you can get these for next to nothing all day online and in used game shops.
