Makes me think twice about buying the system, really. Nothing can replace the natural blur of the CRT, while HD displays don't yet seem to be on the level of CRT response.
As an old hunter from the PS2 days that found MonHun to be just about everything that I needed in gaming at the time, to the point of appreciating it more for what it was not than for what it was, I've been having more difficulty staying into it due to long-term series burnout. While 4U rekindled my excitement pretty well for a short while, Generations isn't eliciting anywhere near the same levels of hype. Worried I'll end up outgrowing MonHun real soon.
As long as VR devices still have wires, they won't be sufficiently safe for much other than stationary games like Elite: Dangerous or Turret Tower, or stationery "games" like the Vive's 3D doodle pad thing.
Can't help but worry about that continued focus on "everyone". The oodles of Wii buyers couldn't distinguish Wii from Wii U, so maybe they're not really a Nintendo audience. I get the feeling that these people wouldn't have an inkling what Splatoon is even if they were surrounded by Splatoon shirts, for example...
Hopefully they'll put some more effort into catering to their own gamer audience in their games. Nintendo Land seemed like a decent start if only because they used their characters and varied gameplay ideas rather than just sports. But, that nowhere near enough, and the more substantial games were too little, too late (though IMO the best games they've put out since the old days). Seems they still need to find out what "we" like.
Monster Hunter made near-perfect use of it, having all of that clutter taken off the main play screen and adding quick buttons for things. Pikmin 3 was excellent with its control, but would have been perfect if it had allowed gyro control to pretend to be a Wii Remote. Splatoon's gyro control was the long-awaited answer to the extremely poor control that was so prevalent in console shooters post-Timesplitters. In Mario Kart, it was simply nice to have it nearby to view the map or enemies' items while using a normal controller to actually play. (That horn was just stupid though.)
It'll feel like a pretty big step back if we find ourselves going back to single-screen gaming, and another big step back if gyro control is lost.
As underutilized as the GamePad's second screen was, it's still done far more for dual-screen gaming than the PC, which has vastly superior multi-screen capabilities. Go figure.
With releases like this, I let the music do the talking. Sadly, it cannot answer the more complex questions involved with whether I should join the crowd-fund.
He'll always be Robotnik to me, but I occasionally slip up and call him Eggman. Sorry Japanese devs, Robotnik and his evil robot army just have that cooler and more villainous sound than Eggman and his...eggs.
@SamirMalik Main Sonic games had bad controls since Adventure, or maybe Adventure 2. (Giving Adventure 1 benefit of the doubt since I remember that even less than I do Adventure 2.). The homing attack meant to keep pace in 3D? Maybe it just needs better play control to reduce/eliminate the need to automate the basic task of crashing into and/or bouncing off of something. If keeping pace is the issue, maybe Sonic shouldn't be bothering to fight those slo-mos anyway.
This doesn't look in any way immersive, nor does it look practical for Splatoon. At the very least it would need to have the head looking separate from body turning and arm/gun aiming---stuff that's just not in the game.
I'll gladly wave good-bye to the optical media, but those little (3)DS cards are still not as satisfying to hold as those big chunky Game Paks of yore, especially the Genesis games in their glorious VHS-style cases. And those game cases feel rather flimsy...kinda like those Genesis cases after the rose glasses come off. Hmm...
Show me a game as good as Colors or Generations and you'll have a Steam Sale sale. Show me a game as good as the Genesis games and you'll have a day-one sale.
@Kolzig This. Removing the homing attack would indicate that they might make an attempt at actual good controls.
@SpykeKat Hey, it's gotta be one crazy-fast tumbleweed.
My fondest memory of SM64 was of finishing it on the Wii (a nostalgia trip in itself) while riding the Galaxy hype train. Shortly after the credits finished rolling, got a Mario-soundalike phone call from Gamestop telling me that my Galaxy pre-order was ready.
I'd love to play another game like SM64, but hopefully with better camera control. Galaxy at least had its levels designed so it was seldom necessary to wrestle with it, though I did miss the relative openness of the levels.
Since "options" is the theme here, especially in combat, what are the options open to players who choose to fight up close, WITHOUT using the Z-Targeting? Are certain move/attack options simply denied?

@sdelfin Thanks for that.

Re: Poll: What Other 'Classic Edition' Nintendo Systems Do You Want to be Released?
While I'd most want to see the SNES library getting the treatment, I feel the N64 actually needs it more.
Re: Video: We Give the NES Classic Edition the Commercial It Deserves
What's wrong with your tape, dude? I've never seen one that bad. Still, that commercial was cool and totally needs some airtime between cartoons.
Re: New NES Mini Console Won't Get More Games, Cartridge Slot To Remain Shut For All Eternity
Aww, no lid-flipping just for novelty's sake. And, is there no composite-out on that thing? HDMI only?
