@FatBeverly Honestly? The only people "we've heard enough off" are people annoyed at different opinions enough to desire to "silence them".
@larryisaman raises some great points, and he mostly confirms the general consensus of most reputable game critics. The core and heart of the game are GREAT. Making it without a doubt the best pokemon game to date...mechanically speaking. But ultimately, the quality/performance issues are hurtful enough to affect the experience and lower the overall quality. Which is specially shocking (if not insulting) when you consider its no indie studio behind it, and that GameFreak is behind one of the oldest, all-time best selling $$$ game franchises of all.
If anything, I'm proud of people holding GameFreak accountable on this quality disaster even today. If anything, THEY are the true fans of the franchise. Because they are the ones actually invested in the franchise enough to wish it to improve. It's like, why would you be annoyed that critic complaints result in an even BETTER game next year? It makes zero sense...
@Vil Seriously, as a longtime fan of the Pokemon franchise, it saddens me to witness people's declining standards. It's disheartening to see people be willing to even discuss a game that was essentially a disrespectful gesture and a betrayal to the community from Gamefreak.
Fans of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are like individuals who purchase food, only to have the restaurant owner (GameFreak) spit on it and toss it on the floor. Yet, they proceed to eat the food from the floor and praise it, saying, "Well, at least the flavor (gameplay) was good!"
Although I really want to play Scarlet and Violet, I've decided to vote with my wallet. This will be the first Switch game I'll consider emulating (on my Steam Deck) out of principle and disgust for GameFreak. Even though it's been years since I've had the financial ability to not rely on emulation.
Sadly agree on the subpar performance of Zelda's English VA. I switched to Japanese + Subs the moment I first heard it to make it more bearable. Even the Spanish dub has more emotion than the English VA.
"Ultimately, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are comprehensive technical failures. Embarassing artwork, terrible draw distance, poor performance, mediocre image quality, and a litany of bugs plague this pair of very troubled games. Pokemon fans deserve better."

DF got not chill. This wasn't a review, or even burn, this was a nuke from orbit.
Interesting results for sure! There are some definite weird results.
Starfox (SNES) seems way too high (nostalgia?), and Starfox Adventures seems very odd above Starlink Battle for Atlas. I get that neither is a "mainline" game, but Starlink seems like it pushed Starfox's space and planetary combat into the modern age of open world games much better, whereas Adventures was mostly an adventure game spin off.
I'm going to assume the only reason Adventures ranked higher is a combination of nostalgia and Krystal lmao.
Outside of that, everything about this list makes sense.
Anyone wishing for a new Starfox game that hasn't played Starlink Battle for Atlas on the Switch is missing out big time.
I finally gave it a shot during the last sale, and it's quite frankly amazing. It's just the right mix of Starfox's Air and Ground combat with Open Space exploration. I still get a gigantic grin on my face entering and leaving planets from orbit so seamlessly without loading screens. It's fantastic.
@BrazillianCara Thanks for asking. Truth be told, I only really mind lacking visual presentation when it gets in the way of gameplay. And at least for me, open world games with poor draw distance are just a terrible combination that takes out all the fun for exploration to me. Kind of like playing a FPS with bad controls, it just isn't enjoyable.
In case it wasn't clear, I'm not really expecting groundbreaking graphics (especially not from gamefreak), but one has to draw the line somewhere if you truly care about making a product better. Just buying mindlessly proves to companies quality doesn't matter to customers.
That looks... worryingly terrible despite being days from releasing 😭 It's not even the empty world, but the combination with incredibly poor draw distance that removes all semblance of detail at a distance (even trees)... It gives the game more of a "tech demo" vibe than an actual game.
I normally don't care about graphics as much, but Jesus Christ, watching today's Kirby The Forgotten Land trailer depressed me like hell by thinking what could have been if GameFreak put half as much love & care as any other AAA title by Nintendo.
This is such a shame for me at least, the art style is gorgeous. And it's the first time I've been excited about Pokemon in years... I guess I'll wait for reviews and pray GameFreak proves me wrong.
Lmao, the switch community is one of the most entitled, whinny communities that will never shut up because "doom and witcher did it, so nothing is impossible".
Let's get real folks. Miracle ports of AAA titles that perform acceptably like the witcher and doom are a rarity and expensive to make. And whether we like it or not, videogames are a for-profit business.
And no game publisher is stupid enough to pour massive amounts of cash and money to develop ports for games unless they are CERTAIN that it will sell well. Notice that all of the cloud games on this list are either niche and didn't sell massively well (like The Witcher or Doom), or would likely lose their visual identity due to the sacrifices needed to get it to run on the Switch (like Control & Guardians of the Galaxy).
And between not having these games at all on the system at all, and at least having a cloud gaming option, you can guess which is better. Don't like it? Don't buy it. But quit acting like an entitled bunch just because ya'll don't understand how the videogame business works.
"I dislike cloud gaming because I play offline a lot, don't bring xCloud to the Switch"
I don't know, what happened to having OPTIONS? Jesus Christ, fanboy tunnel vision at its finest. Ever thought we might have people who actually care about it?
Also, people who dislike Game Pass without trying it first have no idea what they are talking about or what they are missing. I just bought the Series S, and Game Pass has such insane value in AAA titles for its low monthly subscription, it's actually making me second guess paying Nintendo's obscene game prices that never go down. And that's in spite of "Nintendo's seal of quality". Even PlayStation's CEO is rightly worried about the effects of Game Pass on the market, not sure why ya'll acting like it's a bad thing.
Fans: We loved Monster Hunter World because it was more realistic.

On a more serious note, I'm happy to see MH Rise is being treated as a proper mainline title that takes the main MH series in a new direction, rather than being a wacky spin-off title alike to MH Stores. Also, the new winter music theme is dope AF so make sure to watch the trailer with headphones. Here's hoping VALSTRAX makes a return
@BenAV Have you played World of Tanks Blitz before judging? There are a small amount of F2P games that are good enough to rival (and sometimes even surpass) paid ones. An easy example of that is Warframe.
I've played World of Tanks Blitz and the PC version on/off for the last 7 years or so and it's a pretty decent game. The main selling point for me in World of Tanks blitz is the short matches (2-5 minutes), the huge tank variety, and the semi-realistic take on tank battles complete with tank models with per polygon armor millimeter differences and basic penetration and shell type math formulas which make shooting enemies a little more complicated than just taking aim and firing. This does mean there's a considerable learning curve if you don't want all your shots to bounce off enemy tanks, which is not a fun experience.
It can definitely feel slightly P2W in the upper tiers, but its nowhere near excessive. You can easily take down terrible players in OP tanks if you are moderately skilled. (it's quite a common sight TBH, noobs playing OP "P2W" tanks) Its a pretty fun game overall, and the grindy aspect has gotten a lot better in recent months for new players. Though a lot of veterans dislike making that the F2P grind was made easier since it gets "noobs" faster playing top tier tanks, and veterans consider top tier tanks should only be played by great, experienced players.
Overall, I'd say this is as good a time as any to join World of Tanks blitz, offering an decent experience for quick bursts of fun. A great game for those who like slow, calculated fights.
@bilboa that can actually be done quite easily. I'm a web dev and there's a thing called media queries that let you change how a website is displayed based on the screen size (height/width/pixel density). You could rely on this to limit the handheld screenshot size to a specific size, and have it stop growing in size once it reaches a specific resolution.
Great idea, thanks for the transparency Nintendo Life! Though if I can suggest a minor improvement...could handheld screenshots be somewhat smaller in relationship to the docked mode? Seeing an image which was designed to be seen on a 7"/5.5" display on a big screen monitor can be somewhat...jarring. And misrepresent how the quality may be appreciated when seen at a smaller size.
You can even see this being done in many Switch trailers, where they show handheld play within a Switch's outline to make the video/image content seem sharper (which it in deed is when viewed on such a tiny screen)
Some switch ports which looks absolutely stunning, even on handheld, look noticeably less impressive when you stretch out what's essentially a 400p-540p-720p image across the entire screen.
I guess this is one way to "solve" the problem, without really solving it. And to make matters worse, Nintendo Customer Support/warranty repair outside the US and Europe is terrible (takes forever, sometimes returns products without repair)
I think I definitely share the same feelings as that random redditor who's post reached the Front Page of r/NintendoSwitch with 27,000 upvotes a couple of days ago:
"And before someone says 'Contact Nintendo and have them repair it' I shouldn’t have to spend $4 and two weeks without my Joycons for them to just come back and break again in 4 months.
I know I’m probably going to be downvoted into oblivion but as a loyal consumer who’s bought every single Nintendo console bar the Wii U and who’s seen the difference in quality between the handhelds and systems it baffles me and honestly genuinely upsets me how they could allow this issue to exist for 2 years now not even a slight adjustment to try and alleviate the wear and tear"
For those new to the series, Arekkz Gaming (well received Monster Hunter expert on YouTube) made an "Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Monster Hunter". It's made specifically for the World version, but it gives fantastic insight into the history of Monster Hunter and it's mechanics. Check it out if you haven't!
I almost can't believe this is real. I actually thought it physically impossible to port this for the switch due to how large maps are and how much stuff happens constantly when playing co-op.
And for those that don't know about Warframe, it's a Third Person Shooter action game based around looting and sci-fi lore. Think Destiny, but with more grind and Waaaay more content.
The gist of it is you play as one of 40-ish different characters called "frames", each with their own set of 4 skills that demand radically different play styles. Also adding on top of this is a complex Warframe + Weapon enhancement system based around cards. Levels are semi dynamically generated and based around multiple game modes like defense, infiltration (stealth), extermination and rare gear hunts. And while levels can be huge, the fact all characters are capable of crazy parkour makes it feel like you're always controlling some kind of badass space ninja. Not to mention the lore is pretty fantastic overall.
It's F2P on PC but don't be fooled, it's so good it almost puts paid games like Destiny to shame in some areas. One particularly strong suit of Warframe is how much they listen to it's player base. Oh, and despite being F2P, there is ZERO content locked behind a paywall. Just know that if you start playing now and open the store, don't be surprised if everything seems to cost platinum (the in game real world currency), 90% of all current Warframe players know that's there only for the ultra impatient people, since all the content can 100% be earned through free means. And the grind isn't even that bad thanks to how much variety the game has.
"Long story short, Capcom didn't want this game to any way overshadow World so they didn't speak of it till now." - @Spoony_Tech
To be honest, I personally feel Arekkz hit the nail on the head in his previous video, calling out that Monster Hunter World was built from the ground up to basically be MH aimed for the masses. MH was never mainstream because as fun as it is, it never had a tutorial, and it kinda just threw you into the world expecting you to figure out everything navigating countless menus.
MH World fixed this by adding a much simpler tutorial, adding a story driven narrative to keep newer players engaged, and several Quality of Life improvements to make hunting easier for new players.
It made sense for Capcom to wait until MH World got MH mainstream appeal, so that one Generations Ultimate releases there's a far bigger user base that could potentially buy it.
And also, just like this video illustrates, being an older game doesn't necessarily mean it being a worse game, it's like comparing Mario Odyssey to Mario Galaxy 2. They are both amazing games in their own unique way.
