Re: Justin Bieber Surprises Just Dance 4 Fans

Robo-goose

I know it's fun to hate Bieber, but he's actually a pretty great guy. This isn't the first time he's done something like this for a fan, and it probably won't be the last, either.
It's gotta be awkward (even if it's flattering) to have little girls freak out about you right in front of your face, so he gets my respect for being willing to go through with these surprises.

@Geonjaha
It happened recently, it's Nintendo related, and it's interesting. News enough for me.

Re: Teens Losing Interest In Social Gaming, Turning To Traditional Consoles

Robo-goose

@Burning_Spear
I try not to be too skeptical of a variety of things, but I have to agree with you here.
I'd love to think that more people were interested in console games (I don't want this industry to die!), but that possibility is definitely out there.
On the other hand, summer for me all ways meant twice as much game time as the school year, and I like to think that I'm not a shudin, lol!

Re: File Sizes Revealed For 3DS eShop Retail Downloads

Robo-goose

If that's the size of Animal Crossing after being compacted for a virtual release, then I can rest easily knowing that Nintendo didn't leave out a ton of Animal Crossing content for the sake of releasing it as paid DLC later on.
Or maybe they did, and the compact version was supposed to be twice the size! Lol.

Re: Wii U Resellers Captilise On Demand By Fleecing Consumers

Robo-goose

You know, I feel that it's a bit of both.
Gouging prices for something because you know it's in high demand is a scumbag move, and paying insane prices for entertainment just because you can't say no to your kid or because you just want it on launch that badly is also really low.
They cancel out each other, so I don't really have a problem with this.

Re: Kevin Butler Actor Seen Near Wii Console... Sony Takes Him to Court

Robo-goose

@Aviator
"It's not a stupid move by Sony's part.

Any company would fight to protect their IPs.

Imagine if Charles Martinet used his Mario voice to sell Kinect Voice Control. Nintendo would sue Microsoft, and yet a lot of people on this site would approve of what Nintendo was doing."

In Charles Martinet's case, he would be using a voice that he made for Nintendo to sell Microsoft's merchandise. It would still be silly of Nintendo to sue him over that, but, at the same time, it would be understandable.
What we have here is Jerry Lambert merely showing his face in the same room as a Wii console. It wasn't even a commercial made for a Nintendo product, Jerry Lambert was helping Bridgestone sell tyres. Sony is essentially saying that they, partly at least, own Jerry Lambert's face.
What would you say if George Lucas sued Harrison Ford for appearing in a fast food advertisement that was giving away tiny Galacticas or tiny Scorpion Kings as toys for their kid's meals?
Would it be wrong for Ford to show his face near something from a science-fiction movie or adventure movie that wasn't StarWars or Indiana Jones?
There's a gigantic contextual difference between your example, and what actually happened.

Re: Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion Coming to Europe in 2013

Robo-goose

If my knowledge is correct, the American release date is within the same window as the European one. Argh, second quarter.... At least that gives me time to build my funds back up after I blow them on Black 2, NSMB2, LM:DM, AC:CO, possibly an early purchase of the Wii U, and possibly NSMBWU.
Wait a sec, that's a lot of money to blow on video games.
I think I should buy food instead, unless they finally made videogames edible, then I can get all in one!
@Happy_Mask
Holy moly dude, taking mah words right out-a mah mouth.

Re: Pokémon Black and White 2 Designed for Dedicated Trainers

Robo-goose

While it's really easy to fall into the "of course he's going to say it's for 'core players', he's their marketing guy and he knows Nintendo wants money!" line of thinking, he's absolutely right, and I agree 100% with him based on what I've seen and read so far (on serebii.net). Pokemon B&W 2 really has been made to make EV training and IV breading faster, easier, and better.

Re: Talking Point: Five Reasons to Buy a Wii U

Robo-goose

@samholy
"i skipped the Wii, cause lets be honest, it was a fail."
If you're talking only about its power and 3rd party releases, then you're right.
If you're talking about its sales (which I doubt), you're very wrong.
Software on the Wii is selling better than any other console this generation, with 802 million games sold on record. Even when you don't include Wii Sports sales, the Wii still sold over 100 million more game copies than the Xbox 360.
It's not as impressive as the PS2's 1,250 million games sold, but it's the most impressive for this generation.

Re: Talking Point: Five Reasons to Buy a Wii U

Robo-goose

In local news, 91% of people who took the time to cast their vote are planning on buying the Wii U at the very moment in which they voted.
Now for our crime radar, 1% of votes have mysteriously disappeared within the past few hours.

Re: Super Mario 3D Land Clone Hits iPhone, and Looks Rubbish

@aaronsullivan
"Also, I see people mentioning the code being stolen? Where was this reported? That would be an insane accomplishment. Breaching Nintendo HQ and getting access to development archives and steeling the code while ignoring the assets. Completely re engineering the code to work on an incompatible platform. Intentionally messing up the controls, the behavior of the enemies and the animations so it plays like an amateur project. Now, I'm impressed with this developer! Genius! Err..."

Unless you're talking about something someone else wrote on some other website (which I doubt), I was the only one to mention anything related to the code of these two videogames (Mole kart and 3D Cartoon Land).
"They've seen the code, they know how it works, there's no doubt that they know how to manipulate it, but instead of making a new, good game, they just make blatant ripoffs like this." - Me

I wasn't being very clear in that comment, and I apologize for that.
The code I was referring to is that of Mole Kart and partly that of 3D Cartoon Land.
(tbh, I was thinking almost entirely about Mole Kart since I had just finished watching the video of its gameplay. 3D Cartoon Land's gameplay is pretty poor. {FOUL LANGUAGE AHEAD})

In Mole Kart, they figured out how to copy a few of the elements in MKW pretty well, and they also did a fairly good job of copying a few levels from MKW.
They've seen what code is needed for those elements, features, and level designs probably through their attempt to copy what they saw, and they admittedly did an impressive job of doing so (when taking into account the fact that they obviously have a pretty small fraction of the funds or experience that Nintendo EAD has).
Through their own hard work, they've seen what kind of code is required to make certain functions work in a similar way to MKW's features.
Instead of taking that code and working with it until it became something polished, original, unique, and enjoyable (or more enjoyable, based on your standards), they took the easy route by leaving it as-is and by taking as many themes as they could get away with from Nintendo.
It's depressing, 'cause they can make something nice, but choose instead to sit on the border of plaigarism.

Also, looking at code for a AAA game doesn't require someone to break into Nintendo's headquarters with a team of ninjas equipped with Men in Black memory eraser thingies.
Any (non-wannabe) modder can tell you how to play around with a Mario game's insides, and you'd be able to do the same with a few clicks of a button that just happen to land on a fancy search engine and uT*****.
Although, I recommend the former way of getting the code, it's way more fun. Trust me.

Edit: By the way, nice choice for an avatar. He's my favorite character from any Miyazaki movie since he's Mr. *****-*-*****-****-His-Arm!

Re: Super Mario 3D Land Clone Hits iPhone, and Looks Rubbish

Robo-goose

It's depressing, really. By copying these games so well, they've proved that they have the materials to make something that could be great. They've seen the code, they know how it works, there's no doubt that they know how to manipulate it, but instead of making a new, good game, they just make blatant ripoffs like this.
Hopefully they've tried to use what they've learned to make different games, instead of other almost-copy-paste games.

Re: Reggie: $299 Is Strong Value, And Is Going To Be For a Long Time

Robo-goose

The games need to drop in price dramatically? That can be applied to any AAA game, dude. $60 is a lot to pay for a single video game, and people are all ready going around acting as if it's unheard of because they forget that developing HD games is very expensive, and they forget (attention span of a goldfish)that the Wii U supports HD graphics. What will you say when NextBox games cost $70? It'd better be something similar.

Re: Live: Wii U Preview

Robo-goose

Only fifty extra bucks for the Premium addition, which comes with a copy of Nintendo land, some fancy plastic things, and 24 extra Gigs.
The cost of Nintendo Land alone would be fifty bucks, and you'd buy it immediately after getting the Wii U anyway (or not). Sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: It's Nintendo Versus Sega, Anime Style

Robo-goose

The second I saw Fare, I thought of Fire Emblem. That's awesome.

@LavaTwilight
The first Fire Emblem game was released back in 1990, but Japan kept all their Fire Emblems to themselves until FE7, which saw a US release in 2003.
