Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Updated To Version 2.0.2, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Retrograde

I just quit this game in the latter third. This along with Odyssey are amongst the most overrated games I have ever played. Especially Bananza, this is a braindead game. Too many collectibles which have no interesting design, or challenge to acquire. No challenge whatsoever, and I mean none in this game. It's a collectathon slog with no sense of reward or variety. I'll personally never buy another game by this dev team. Original DK Trilogy and even DK64 obliterate this game. SM64 and Sunshine obliterate Odyssey, not to mention Galaxy etc. Very disappointed with the direction Nintendo have taken these flagship 3D platformers. In my life of gaming I've quit only a handful of games in 35 years and two were the aforementioned games.

@The_Nintendo_Pedant still not worth it in my opinion, the inferiority of the ports just aren't acceptable. I'd just get a console for those other titles. It's only really children who couldn't afford both (and they generally don't notice, or understand the quality differences in ports anyway). There are so many ways to spread out costs for a large purchase these days, or just budget and save that I don't buy that as a reason for most to accept playing inferior games, especially if you're focusing only on 1st party titles for the Nintendo device. Save up whilst you work through the 1st party games, then enjoy the better AAA versions on a different system.

@The_Nintendo_Pedant for the best choice of triple AAA ports in a mobile form, you're talking double or more the frame rate and full suite of graphical options. I wouldn't buy one for that reason though, I'd rather just buy a PS5 or something if I wanted to play those games. I actually don't like Windows or PC gaming in general myself. I've had top end gaming rigs and always ended up hugely disappointed with them for the costs involved. I'd rather pay less for simplicity and a decent enough experience. I don't think the Switch 2 provides that for AAA ports though.

@The_Nintendo_Pedant haha you're reading too deeply into a turn of phrase my friend. Playing devils advocate, if you want portability and AAA games there are multiple better handheld hybrids out there. The Switch 2 ports are even the most inferior handheld versions on the market, well excepting the Steam deck I'd imagine. A ROG ally is a similar cost to a Switch 2 though and vastly superior for AAA titles.

@kmtrain83 personally I don't see the need for that. I bought Switch/2 for the huge 1st party library, but if Nintendo truly wanted to compete in that theatre I can see that making sense like a Nintendo "Pro" dock or something. The only thing I wish for is that they would give more Switch 2 patches for Switch 1 games. Just higher res and framerates would be so welcome. I understand that requires the devs input, but I still wish "most" S1 games got updates. I'm buying a 1080p TV to play my S1 games because they look so bad on a 4K TV, even in handheld mode the lower pixel density because of the upscaling is very noticable.

@The_Nintendo_Pedant it's just how I feel about it mate, that's literally what came to mind it's not unreasonable. If I'd said "nobody should buy this, don't buy these versions or you're stupid" etc. That would be unreasonable. I merely remarked that I don't know why people would buy these ports. Personally for me the portability means almost nothing. When I am outside the house I'm socialising, visiting family etc. I'll not play games at those times. In the house I use the dock. I suppose if you're mad on the portability aspect it would make some sense to me, but even then for my personality I couldn't deal with playing an inferior product regardless. It all comes down to personal tastes.
