Re: NES Visual Compendium Dispute Comes To An End, Kickstarter Resumes For Final 24 Hours

I'm surprised they were allowed to keep making this. A lot of the content is just screenshots of NES games. That seems like it would go beyond fair use, since such a large part of the book's content is used without permission.

Even if they made a deal with Nintendo, you'd think the other companies which art is used would want to prevent this from being released.

Re: Review: Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES)

I finished the PSP version and it's the best SRPG I've played. If the SNES version is about as good as the PSP one, it deserves that 10/10 score.

The storyline is surprisingly well written and mature for a game of that era. The gameplay's great too, with a lot of depth and customization options. It's impressive how much they managed to include in the game, considering it's on an SNES cartridge.

It's a shame this game isn't anywhere near as popular as Final Fantasy Tactics, even though it's very similar and just as good.

Re: Video: Take A Look Inside Sega Of America's Testing Facility, Circa 1995

I ended up watching the whole thing. It's interesting to see how testing those games worked. It was nostalgic too. Sega was cool in a very 90's way back then.

They used to take bug fixing before release much more seriously. The marketing department's influence on development schedules must've grown a lot in the following ten years, considering the same company allowed Sonic 2006 to be released with tons of bugs.

Re: Review: Paranautical Activity (Wii U eShop)

@Sean_Aaron The game doesn't have tank controls. It uses the usual dual analog controls. Tank controls mean the kind where the left analogue stick walks forward and rotates you left and right.

Also, 5/10 seems overly generous for the game. I played it on PC and it was bad in a lot of ways. The graphics are amateurish and the gameplay feels slippery. All the rooms are square, which is really repetitive. If the Wii U version has technical issues on top of all that, I would definitely give it a lower score.

A randomized FPS is a good concept, but the game executes it poorly. Tower of Guns and Ziggurat do the same concept far better. Unfortunately neither of those are on the Wii U.

Re: Nintendo 3DS Games Sure Look Pretty In High Definition

Reath

I was always disappointed that they went with very low res screens for the 3DS. Those screenshots show that the 3DS really is capable of showing better graphics than the screen can display. Especially the Mario Kart screenshot has way more detail than you could see on a 3DS's screen.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote

Reath

I wouldn't have liked the Wii U as much if the Wii Remote was still the main input device. Most games used motion controls for functions that would've worked better with buttons, which often made it a pure gimmick. The pointer functionality was the only part of it that was genuinely useful.

The Gamepad is far more flexible, since it includes a regular controller button layout in addition to the touch screen. The extra buttons allowed more complex games to be developed for it. The Gamepad's numerous buttons and less familiar shape did make the console less accessible to the casual audience, which likely played a role in the Wii U's poor sales.
