Nobody gives a crap about Wii Fit U. You know one of the main reasons why the Wii was such a success? Schools. I am a teacher, and I know for a fact that the majority of the schools that I have been in used the Wii as either part of their Phys. Ed program or had them in their resource rooms or learning center classrooms. My school board used to contact my local EB Games about buying Wiis for their schools. Do you think the school board will do the same for the Wii U and that stupid tablet? No. Nursing homes also bought the Wii in bulk; that won't be happening this time around either because while grandma knows the gesture to bowl she does not know the first thing about using a tablet.
That's why the Wii sold 100 million units and that's why the Wii U won't.
I have two university degrees and I know what I'm talking about. Deal with it.
Nintendo sells less than 500,000 units in 6 months. There are 1.5 million PS4 pre-orders out there. No, no, you're right. Nintendo is fine.
There's no need for me to get a PS4 at launch as I am currently having too much fun with my PS3 to care (and yes, the PS4 launch does not really excite me much.) I'll get my PS4 next summer. I wonder if the Wii U will have crawled over the 5 million mark by then.
The Wii U is the worst system I have even owned. The PS4 and the Xbox One will both destroy it in the coming months. Nintendo's own first party content is not enough to make the system a success. What is Nintendo going to do once Mario and Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are released and the sales numbers are STILL awful?
I honestly can't believe that people are still trying to spin the facts and figures here. The system is not a success. Period. Having a small handful of "Nintendo" games released per year is not going to suddenly turn that around. That's not how business works. Sony and Microsoft have games constantly being released for their systems. And look at the Wii U - after its launch it was over 4 months until they released anything new for it, that being Lego City. Is it any surprise that the system hasn't been flying off the shelf?
I scratched my Mario Kart 8 itch by buying a PS3 this last summer along with ModNation Racers. In fact, Sony has been the cure to the majority of my gaming itches lately (RPG = Tales of Xillia, tired of waiting for Bayonetta 2 = DmC, Need for Speed: Most Wanted U constantly freezing = Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, etc.)
The Wii U sucks and is going to be destroyed by the PS4 and Xbox One. The Wii U is the worst system that I have ever owned in 22 years of gaming.
If you're afraid of "naughty words" then stay off the internet. Or better yet, live in a bubble with plugs in your ears. The odd swear word or two isn't going to harm anybody. I assume that the reaction of the man in that video is representative of the reactions of most gamers who ran into this bug (well, apart from the hammer, anyways. That was too far). I'm sure people out there aren't going "golly-gee, my $40 game that I've been waiting over a year for is broken. Oh well."
Hope everybody is avoiding the game breaking bug. Just saw it reported on another site. Apparently saving in Lumiose City is the cause of the bug, which corrupts the game save data. Not sure if this bug just affects the physical copy or digital version as well.
Frig Nintendo. I'm not a Pokémon fan, but this is sad news. So many people are out there enjoying this game right now.
As somebody who often criticizes Ubisoft for rushing their games and not polishing them, I have to tip my hat to them for this. Every Assassin's Creed game that I have played has been a buggy and glitch-ridden mess, so hopeful this will buck that trend.
Then again, maybe they just wanted the GTA V craze to die down and the delay has nothing to do with quality.
But assuming the PR statement is truthful it will make for a better game in the end, and that's what we all want. I would rather wait 3 months for a finished game than own a broken game 3 months earlier.
Nintendo sucks. They're just doing the exact same type of design that they were doing in the 90s. All of their games are the same and they keep releasing them over and over again, hoping nobody will notice or care. No wonder the industry has left them behind. Nintendo has no idea how to make a "modern" game. Playing Wind Waker HD this last week has served to highlight just how much my tastes have grown up in the last 10 years.
Like most serious gamers who actually want a variety of gaming experiences, I have another console in addition to my Wii U. That's where I get my third-party fix, and while I couldn't care less about this game, if I did I would buy it for my PS3. The Wii U is strictly for games with "Mario," "Kart," or "Smash" in the title.
God this is stupid. Just make some games, Nintendo. Stop putting 'M's and Triforces and whatever other logo on your peripherals and stop acting like they're something that we all need to run out and buy. I already have 3 Wii Remotes that I never use, so why the hell would I need these?
This game looks absolutely incredible and way better than either of the Galaxy games. People need to stop hating this game, and hopefully this trailer goes a long way in that regard.
When I was a kid Mario games were about getting from the starting point in the level to the flag pole at the end. That is what a Mario game is supposed to be - not this start collecting garbage that started in 1996. Mario 3D Land is the best Mario game since Super Mario World because it brought the series back to its roots. It played like a 2D Mario game only in 3D. Each level was its own thing and all you had to do was get to the end of stage. Basic, simple, and perfect. That is what a "3D" Mario game should be.
It's a shame because out of all of the big Nintendo titles this fall this was the one I was most looking forward to the most, but if the extra time makes for a better game overall it'll be worth it.
Or maybe it is just a move for sales purposes, as some people have already pointed out. That's smart too. Not only would it be competing with Mario during the holiday rush, but with the PS4 and Xbox One releases as well.
In either case, a few months really isn't the end of the world, and this game is going to be great.
Umm, no. It’s not safe to assume that at all. It wouldn’t be very good PR to say that their game is a technical mess on Wii U, would it? Of course he’s going to say that it runs fine because he wants you to buy it.
Right, so if your wonderful team overcame all those "technical challenges" of the Wii U then why did Blacklist still have all of the freezing issues that AC III did?
What a bunch of total BS. Out of all of the versions of this game the Wii U version is the least important to Ubisoft and they know it. They know that no matter what the title will sell the worst on Nintendo's console, so why put in all that extra effort? The audience for Assassin's Creed owns either a PS3 or a 360 - that's where the series started and that's where the fans are. If you're buying #4 then you either already have one of those two consoles to play it on, or you're getting it on PS4 or Xbox One.
Watch_Dogs on Wii U will be the same; it'll sell the worst and it will perform the worst. Ubisoft does not polish their games. They care more about releasing titles annually than they do about making sure that they are releasing a quality, finished product.
I don't know why the lack of a second circle pad is still a talking point. Games on the 3DS are not designed with a second circle pad in mind, so why would Nintendo want to/need to include it in their system? If you've bought a 3DS with the hopes of playing a FPS on it then you've bought the wrong system.
Oh, and before anybody points this out, Resident Evil: Revelations controlled just fine without he Circle Pad Pro.
Anyways, enough with the hate on the 2DS. If you have a 3DS or 3DS XL and are happy with it then why does the existence of this other thing bother you? Just stick with what you have and shut up.
They can't make games that don't freeze on the system. The only two titles I've played on Wii U that have not had performance issues have been Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land. Every third-party title simply hasn't worked. Here's a list:
Assassin’s Creed 3: Froze twice within a couple of hours, other general bugs/clipping issues.
Mass Effect 3: Multiple times the game would fail to load from the initial loading screen; the music would simply loop indefinitely.
Darksiders 2: Froze numerous times, encountered an un-solvable puzzle when I was within 30 minutes of the final boss.
Lego City Undercover: Froze once in 54 hours of gameplay.
Need for Speed Most Wanted U: Froze at least 10 times within 30 hours of gameplay, and once 4 times within 5 minutes.
Ninja Gaiden 3: Twice a boss would fail to disappear when defeated, meaning the cut scene would not trigger, leaving me stuck.
I can't wait for the PS4 to slaughter this system.
Make it happen, then. And make a new F-Zero and Star Fox while you're at it as well. Again I say, Nintendo has all of these great IPs that they're just sitting on.
Look out Sony, we can now play Wii Sports in HD! Your PS4 sure is in trouble now. Why, I bet sales of the Wii U will jump 200% based on this news alone.
It will not come to the Wii U. The title was in development for over 5 years on the PS3 and 360, where there are a combined 150 million potential buyers. Rockstar had already developed GTA IV for the consoles and knew the ins and outs of the individual consoles, making the development process easier the second time around. They would have to start from scratch on the Wii U, where the install base is less than 4 million units, and at the time of writing this post apparently 35% of the folks on this site aren't interested anyways. It is just not worth Rockstar's time and that's a fact. Everybody who cares about GTA V already has one of the other HD consoles to play it on. End of story.
Unlike the article that tried to convince uninterested gamers that The Wonderful 101 was a perfect family title that every gamer should run right out and buy, this article I actually agree with. Wind Waker is a perfect game, easily my favourite in the Zelda series, and is a game that I believe everybody should experience at least once.
What a knit-picky review. The game was perfect back in 2003, now Nintendo is making slight improvements and you're still finding stuff to complain about. Jeez.
I'll be dusting off my Wii U day one for this. And I'll be playing with the Pro Controller thank you very much. Having to pause the game to access your menu 10 years ago was perfectly fine, and it still is. That Game Pad is a clunky piece of trash that does not improve any game that I have ever played with it. Wind Waker came from an era when Nintendo actually made games with a normal controller in mind, and the game should be experienced with the Pro Controller.
Interesting article. The backlash of comments that Gamespot's Carolyn Petit has received both on their site and YouTube is really disheartening. If you like the game than one person's review score really shouldn't bother you, but apparently lots of people don't feel that way.
That being said, if GTA V were coming out on Wii U the editors of this site would no doubt be praising it up and down and lavishing 10s on it like it's nobody's business.
And calling Wind Waker an open-world game is a joke. It's a Zelda game, with an over world map like every other Zelda game, and that map happens to be an ocean. That's not an open-world. It's a Zelda-map, just like the field in Ocarina of Time. Saying that you'd rather play a port of a 10 year old game instead of a brand-new triple A title like GTA V is nonsense. I get that GTA is not aimed at the Nintendo crowd, but you can't say that the release of GTA V even compares to the release of Wind Waker HD.
A) Focus on making a brand new Zelda game for the Wii U, not HD-releases.
B) Make that brand new Zelda game with realistic, awesome graphics that we have all come to expect from the HD generation. Wind Waker is a classic, outstanding game, but I don't want the first original Zelda title on the Wii U to be cel-shaded. One game like that is enough. You finally have a powerful system on your hands, Nintendo, make this Zelda game look amazing.
I think it's pretty sad that a port of a 10 year old game is supposed to spark a boost in console sales, price drop or otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to Wind Waker HD, but still, it's not like it's something that we all haven't played before. HD re-releases/collections should be a nice bonus to a console's game library, not a "system seller."
Oh Reggie, you’re nothing more than a PR man/talking head. While Iwata may be captaining the Titanic you’re the crew member running around trying to convince all the passengers that the ship isn’t sinking.
Oh my God, Nintendo Life; it doesn't matter how many articles you publish where you sing the praises of The Wonderful 101 - nobody wants this game. Nobody's buying it. Nobody cares.
I know Nintendo gets dinged for not doing new IP, but maybe they could focus on making a new F-Zero, Star Fox, and Metroid Prime first. Excluding the 3D re-make, they have not made a good Star Fox game since 1997. Come on, Nintendo. You have so many good IPs that you're just sitting on right now.
It's about time, Nintendo. Titles on the PS3 that were 59.99 when they were originally released are often reduced by $20 or $30 mere months after their release. I picked up DmC: Devil May Cry in July, new, for $29.99. Same with Ni No Kuni, and they were released early 2013. Infamous I got new for only $10 as part of Sony's Greatest Hits brand.
For some reason Nintendo waits until people have completely moved on before dropping the prices of their exclusives. A few weeks ago I saw Smooth Moves and Other M still being sold at $54.99. That's pathetic. One is a 2007 release, and one is a game that nobody liked. There's 15-plus used copies of Other M at both of my local EB Games. We joke about burying them in the backyard because nobody wants the game.
Maybe if Nintendo had revenue from third-parties they wouldn't have to make all of their money on their own exclusives... hint hint.
Solid point. Between that price drop and the fact that the good games don't come out until the fall it really is no surprise that it's not selling.
Then again, that's not really an excuse because it's been struggling ever since it launched, but still. When you're routinely outsold by the Vita you know you're in trouble...
It looks the exact friggin' same, only brighter and in widescreen.
When Sony and Microsoft do HD re-releases they sell them at a discounted price. But nope, not Nintendo. Full $59.99. They're so desperate to have a game on their system that people actually want to play that they're going to charge full price, knowing full well that the fanboys will pay whatever they ask for.
Nintendo Life, get this through your head: you own Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games, and that's it. Mario, Zelda, and the rest of their IPs are all top notch, but if you want any other experience developed by a third-party, you need another system. End of article.
"Missing the boat" could be Nintendo's official slogan. The third party support is just going to get even worse once the actual next-gen consoles arrive in a few months.
I hear ya, brother. My Wii U is currently collecting dust until Mario and DKC come out this fall. Maybe I'll go play Infamous, DmC, Tales of Xillia, or The Last of Us again whilst the Big N fanboys wait for something to play with their little Game Pad.
So let’s see: We have a port of a 10 year old game which looks no better than its Game Cube original (only much brighter), a Mario game that people already hate because it’s not Galaxy 3, a DKC game that people are also annoyed about because they think Retro should be making another Metroid game, a 3D Sonic game that I’m sure Sega will find a way to screw up, two Ubisoft games that will likely have freeing issues if they’re anything like AC III and Blacklist, and then a bunch of casual crap and eShop games. Yup, it’s going to be a great fall for the Wii U!!
I have a Wii U to play Mario games, and I’m certainly looking forward to the first three titles on that list. For any gaming experience that doesn’t involve jumping on an enemy’s head, I turn to Sony. Nintendo’s first-party stuff is usually outstanding, but as a 26 year old gamer I need more than the few titles they can dish out a year.
I fear that this story got lost in the shuffle once all of the big news of the day broke out. I just wanted to come back here and say that this was the most positive thing that I've read on the site all day. I tend to be very critical of the Wii U (and I believe for good reason) but this story just made me smile and is a great reminder of the magic that Nintendo is able to produce.

Why exactly were people expecting such an outstanding score??

It's a Zelda-map, just like the field in Ocarina of Time. Saying that you'd rather play a port of a 10 year old game instead of a brand-new triple A title like GTA V is nonsense. I get that GTA is not aimed at the Nintendo crowd, but you can't say that the release of GTA V even compares to the release of Wind Waker HD.
Re: Review: TNT Racers - Nitro Machines Edition (Wii U eShop)
I think I'll stick with Modnation Racers until Mario Kart 8 comes out. Good things come to those who wait.
Re: Video: Check Out These Highlights From Hideki Kamiya's Presentation at PAX Prime
I am getting sick of hearing about The Wonderful 101. This game isn't important and is going to be completely forgotten in two months.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Seventeen
Infamous and Diablo 3 on my PS3
Re: Feature: Great Nintendo 64 Multiplayer Games You May Not Have Played
Snowboard Kids was fun back in the day. I rented it a few times back before Blockbuster went belly-up.
Re: Nintendo Tested Two Other Zelda Titles in HD on the Wii U
A) Focus on making a brand new Zelda game for the Wii U, not HD-releases.
B) Make that brand new Zelda game with realistic, awesome graphics that we have all come to expect from the HD generation. Wind Waker is a classic, outstanding game, but I don't want the first original Zelda title on the Wii U to be cel-shaded. One game like that is enough. You finally have a powerful system on your hands, Nintendo, make this Zelda game look amazing.
Re: 3DS Hardware Sales Continue to Rise in Japan, Wii U Numbers Drop Again
I think it's pretty sad that a port of a 10 year old game is supposed to spark a boost in console sales, price drop or otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to Wind Waker HD, but still, it's not like it's something that we all haven't played before. HD re-releases/collections should be a nice bonus to a console's game library, not a "system seller."
Re: Reggie: This Holiday Season Is Going To Be Extremely Strong For Wii U
Oh Reggie, you’re nothing more than a PR man/talking head. While Iwata may be captaining the Titanic you’re the crew member running around trying to convince all the passengers that the ship isn’t sinking.
Re: Talking Point: The Wonderful 101 Provides Some Rare Family Friendly Thrills
Oh my God, Nintendo Life; it doesn't matter how many articles you publish where you sing the praises of The Wonderful 101 - nobody wants this game. Nobody's buying it. Nobody cares.
I know Nintendo gets dinged for not doing new IP, but maybe they could focus on making a new F-Zero, Star Fox, and Metroid Prime first. Excluding the 3D re-make, they have not made a good Star Fox game since 1997. Come on, Nintendo. You have so many good IPs that you're just sitting on right now.
Re: Three Wii Classics Get A Price Reduction in North America
Maybe if Nintendo had revenue from third-parties they wouldn't have to make all of their money on their own exclusives... hint hint.
Re: The Wii U Continues to Struggle in Japanese Charts
@strongest_link
Solid point. Between that price drop and the fact that the good games don't come out until the fall it really is no surprise that it's not selling.
Then again, that's not really an excuse because it's been struggling ever since it launched, but still. When you're routinely outsold by the Vita you know you're in trouble...
Re: AiRace Speed Flying Onto the 3DS eShop Soon
Judging from that screenshot alone I am going to keep my eye on this one. I'm always on the lookout for something quick and fun on my XL.
Re: Video: Want To See Just How Much Better Zelda: Wind Waker Looks In HD?
@Undead_terror
Red is in fast mode, blue is the normal/original speed for sailing.
Re: Video: Want To See Just How Much Better Zelda: Wind Waker Looks In HD?
It looks the exact friggin' same, only brighter and in widescreen.
When Sony and Microsoft do HD re-releases they sell them at a discounted price. But nope, not Nintendo. Full $59.99. They're so desperate to have a game on their system that people actually want to play that they're going to charge full price, knowing full well that the fanboys will pay whatever they ask for.
Re: Talking Point: The Wii U May Be Playing Catch-Up With Some Developers, But Money Always Talks
Nintendo Life, get this through your head: you own Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games, and that's it. Mario, Zelda, and the rest of their IPs are all top notch, but if you want any other experience developed by a third-party, you need another system. End of article.
Re: Bethesda: The Time For Convincing Publishers And Developers To Support Wii U Is "Long Past"
"Missing the boat" could be Nintendo's official slogan. The third party support is just going to get even worse once the actual next-gen consoles arrive in a few months.
Re: Rayman Legends on Wii U Wins Digital Foundry Face-Off
@xNoktemAeternus
I hear ya, brother. My Wii U is currently collecting dust until Mario and DKC come out this fall. Maybe I'll go play Infamous, DmC, Tales of Xillia, or The Last of Us again whilst the Big N fanboys wait for something to play with their little Game Pad.
Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2013 - Autumn / Fall Edition
Re: Peter Molyneux Reveals His Favourite Zelda Title Of All Time
Wind Waker is my personal favourite. In fact it's honestly the only Zelda game that I have ever truly loved.
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Sixteen
DmC: Devil May Cry
Re: Say What You Will About Nabbit, But He's Helped A Blind Girl Enjoy Games
I fear that this story got lost in the shuffle once all of the big news of the day broke out. I just wanted to come back here and say that this was the most positive thing that I've read on the site all day. I tend to be very critical of the Wii U (and I believe for good reason) but this story just made me smile and is a great reminder of the magic that Nintendo is able to produce.
Re: Nintendo and Capcom to Announce Upcoming Collaboration
This is good news. Every bit of third party support that they can get is a plus.
