@faint well it will be both wrong and stupid for me to tell people what games to like, but personally for me games are like art, I love strong mechanics but only if they are in service to something bigger, Nintendo has presented bunch of games that are nothing but new ways of functionality, I wish they started to put more effort into creating worlds with characters that have more depth then the ones who already exist, Toad treasure..., Kirby Rainbow, Robot..., and even splatoon (which I will get and will probably enjoy), just show Nintendo's obsession to somehow make the gamepad more relevant, well if they focused instead on creating great games, people with go ahead and buy the console and use a Pro controller.
@jjmesa16 You can't tell people what to like, some people like FPS, Sports games, Racers, RPGs, 3rd person shooter, Adventure games, action Adventures, open world games, MMOs, Strategy games and the list goes on.... and well they will go ahead and buy a PS4 or XBOX one or a PC. And some like platformers, MK8 or SSB, very cute kiddy games, games that look 2 decades old, Games that are 2 decades old, Mini games and Party games, and well these people will by a Wii U. @electrolite77 Well first off I am a Wii U owner. "Particularly ironic when there's someone higher up this very page who went and bought a Wii U off the back of that conference", not really since he could have gone ahead and bought the console for a number of other reasons, including smash. @DestinyMan So you were pleased with >>everything<< Nintendo had to offer.
The fanboys here at Nintendo Life really make it hard for anyone to enjoy anything Nintendo, all you want from consoles are VC games and the same predictable crap again and again, Sad really.
Nintendo didn't win anything yesterday, they started out good but the digital event that started with humor and fun soon turned to a boring video with a documentary vibe with nothing new to add, Splatoon was a nice surprise but it's not something you keep for the end, the end needed a big AAA game, unfortunately Nintendo didn't have any. they really don't have much respect for 3rd party either, I mean no mention of Sonic? or all these great 3DS games coming? Microsoft started with COD, and that game isn't even an exclusive.
all these new kirby, toad, mario maker, Mario party, wierd robot games crap, was just a way to shove the gamepad in people's face.
just make good games Nintendo and people will stop whining about the gamepad, don't make stupid games that make better use of the gamepad but don't change anything when it comes to hardware sales.
I can now see why Nintendo only mentioned MK8 and Smash in their yearly briefing, add 2 or 3 mediocre games like hyrule to it and there is literally no other game coming to the console to interest non Wii U owners until 2015.
But I'm sure I'm in the wrong here, people will tell me how xbox and sony are the ones lacking in quality titles and start naming the games...
Zelda looked great, Splatoon surprised me, the rest was pretty normal, I had a lot of hopes for a big new IP, oh well. I have to be honest ubisoft had the best games this year for my taste, Rainbow 6 and the Division both looked incredible, Advanced Warfare looked great as well any new of it possibly hitting Wii U?
If these were true, with they mean new battle arenas? or just different modes in the same tracks? I haven't touched the battle mode personally, I tried it once in Toad Harbor, it was really anything but exciting, I'm really hoping for some good old arenas.
I think @NintendoMonkey was saying that Wii U/3DS can beat PS4/Vita next year if Wii U picks up not that Wii U will outsell PS4. I don't also agree with popularity meaning quality, @Einherjar movie example says it best (I hate the twilight Movies) and @2Sang twilight sucks for someone who knows a good movie, and there is no superiority and high quality to be found, but I can understand the general appeal. you don't see movies winning the Oscar and other Awards, becoming best sellers, and the same goes for games as well. I'm not saying that the Wii U is better compared to the PS4 (although at least right now it does have better exclusives), but I definitely don't think that these current sale numbers are a fair estimate of the consoles worth. As for high numbers, there are a bunch of casual games being played by millions of people every day on mobile phones that doesn't make them better games, at least for core gamers.
@Spoony_Tech Well yeah but you have to also consider that many of those 80 million went ahead and bought a next gen console and will get the game on those consoles. MK was an exclusive game and a well known franchise, watch dogs on 360 was neither. people always bring up the numbers and compare the 6 mil to the 80 but you are missing the fact that watch dogs sold 2 million on a console with an 8million user base.
@the_beaver I wouldn't buy a console for Hyrule Warriors or Bayonetta, but I know people that would, you're right in saying they won't give it the 600% boost that MK did, but once there are 5-10 very strong unique exclusives in a console then gamers will start to come around. specially games with online modes and re playability, I don't know if X will be in that category but I'm really hoping for a strong MMORPG with a great community.
Well I'm surprised as how the 360 watchdogs went to second place this week, both surprised and disappointed for the current Gen consoles, I'm mean losing a spot to a new IP on PS4 and Xone was one thing, losing it to 360 is another. Anyways still good to see a Wii U game hanging in the top.
I would give it to MK8 because of the online multiplayer, but I do agree that SM3DW is a better (in fact the best) platformer then MK8 is as a racer. People pls tell me which to choose between pikmin 3 and WWHD, I'm having trouble choosing, they both seem to be incredible games.
@XCWarrior Agreed, Polygon has become the new gamespot, maybe even worse, they continue writing crappy opinion pieces, and Nintendo shouldn't bother with them at all. Well hope Iwata gets better, in the meantime I think every thing will go smooth in E3.
yep I'll probably wait for the price drop too, didn't get it for PC, people saying it has a lot of issues, and I got AC4 for Wii U still haven't got around playing it after all these months (still hasn't even been opened). I think even ubisoft won't expect the game to sell well on Wii U, most people interested in the game have already got it on another platform, and by the time the game releases it will go on all sorts of discounts on other platforms.
Very good news, we need a FPS, hopefully if it comes to the Wii U it will be a strong port and people will support the game, this could be something very good for Wii U, I don't mind missing out on the smaller franchises, but at least we need the very big ones.
Well the good news is, Mario Kart 8 lost to a title that has apparently done very great, the even better news is the is the second best opening for MK in U.K, this is great news, really. I am disappointed that MK lost to both PS4 and XBOX one, I knew it won't be first but I was hoping it will beat the XBOX one version, in U.S pre orders apparently it's ahead of the XBOX one version so I'm hoping it will open second in NA. and well we can be sure it will open first in Japan, I've seen a lot of Japanese players in the multiplayer, I think it sold incredible over there.
I haven't played the crash games or Diddy kong, but people comparing sonic to Mario kart series and saying it's better! funniest joke ever, if you actually believe that to be true you really have no clue what MK is all about. I feel sad for Nintendo that they put so much effort to make such a polished racer and a lot of fans here can't even realize it. It's never been about the characters, the courses, or the Mario brand, it's been about it's game play. And I don't feel like I wanna try Crash, why? because Mario Kart is always better than anything I can Imagine, starting tomorrow I will be playing MK8 and loving it. (I had 2 very busy days)
Well just coughed up 74$ for MK8 on the eShop, I mean I don't want to complain because I'm getting a free game but still, with these prices, this will be the last game I buy for the whole summer season! (No it won't)
Well thank you Japan, at least it did out sell PS4, even if they both sold so little, something that we can hope only to happen in America, and unfortunately be sure it will not happen in Europe and UK.
I don't think the Hardware sales will go up as much as you guys think, but as Iwata said these games are here to build a momentum, a move to the right direction. Japan will play a critical role for Nintendo this time around, if Wii U becomes a success story in Japan it will definitely boost it sales in west, specially after Japanese developers start coming around and paying more attention to the console.
@Dreamz Actually I think GameSpot is handing the torch to Polygon. Anyways happy to see the shares going up it definitely has to do with MK8's release and marketing efforts made by Nintendo.
@rjejr yeah very bad timing on the sales. all this time since February and now they go on sale. I was wondering who makes the decisions, was it WB's idea to put it's games on sale the same week MK8 is coming out?
dlc could be something great, if developers learn to put a good deal of effort in building the core of a game and making something special, they sure deserve to be supported with paid dlc. I'm really looking forward to new cups and specially new battle arenas, hope to seem them by December.
I hope now that I have read about the stutter, it doesn't effect my gaming, I know I wouldn't have realized something like that before knowing this, but now I will probably consciously pay more attention, I hope what DF did, just hasn't ruined this experience for me. as for the native 720p, well I definitely enjoyed SM3DW and so I will have no problem with this.
Everyone are just jumping to conclusions, why don't you wait and see how things turn out before boycotting Smash Bros. they are not bunch of idiots, they realize it shouldn't affect the main gaming experience, it will just be a bonus for people who want it, and in fact I'm very happy they are doing it, they would have done a lot of marketing on the game and now they could reach a broader audience, they have to do something to make kids put down their phones and look elsewhere, and this could be it.
yep, it reminds me of a game I played on my android phone, can't remember the name, but had the same mechanics which I liked and this looks much better, so I will be getting this.
@RedYoshi999 yeah, I got a Wii U when I was visiting my brother (in Canada), the price of the console in middle east where I live is around 550$, and the accessories are the same (around 200% the price), the games are around 50$ - 80$, and the funniest part is here people who make around 1000$ a month are considered very rich, of course the majority of people here buy PS3/360 and just get pirated games, but they pay so easily for hardware and they have such lower expectations.
It would have been an more interesting concept maybe if they added some sort of functionality similar to the game to the consoles operating system itself, so you would turn your Wii U on and see that your Mii has been doing all sorts of crazy thing, while you were gone. of course it would need a lot of things to sort out but it's just an idea.
I played this on my phone a lot, great game, I wish I could have had a pet that looked like om nom, he's so cute and that way I could feed him everyday.
If Nintendo doesn't sell consoles now, (that the new gen consoles have nothing to show for), what will happen coming fall, when games like destiny, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Madden, FIFA + the Microsoft / Sony exclusive release, and there is no sign of Wii U (awaiting the release of smash and a 6 months delayed watch_dogs.) But I'm still hopeful, Wii U is currently selling at a rate of 1/4th of PS4, if it doesn't fall more behind and keep at a steady pace, it will finish with the 30 mil I believe and hope it will reach, while PS4 will probably hit somewhere between 100~120.
@Darknyht Well I agree with you there, what I'm saying is Nintendo has either got to re invent it's previous franchises or give new IP's, polishing the same old games because the formula worked before just doesn't cut it, for example look at SM3dW, probably the best platformer I played in my life, and the single player and local multiplayer was brilliant, but I wish It had online as well, it would have been great. they should do something new, that's all I'm saying, and I think the hardware is capable of doing it, they still can make things a whole lot better.
@Yorumi
No you misunderstood what I said, I didn't mean just because this comes in HD it makes it a much improved version of the Wii, honestly I remember the times before the release of Mario kart 64, I honestly wasn't excited at all about the graphics seeing it in the magazines, but this is different, the changes made are much more significant then the last entries (purely talking about it's aesthetics), and this makes it a selling point for the game.
@Darknyht
I'm sure those games have a lot of fans, but they won't change the fortunes of a console, people like you or the guys that come here, you will each end up buying the console when your favorite title comes (if you haven't already), but for the mass public games like Mario Kart 8 or party games or multiplayer and social games do a lot better.
Edit: btw the sports game idea is gold, but I don't think Nintendo will do anything like that.
@Nntndo_1986 Yes you are correct, but the good news is these problems can be fixed with updates, of course if Nintendo listens to people. but I'm also hopeful they release a dlc that adds arena for battle mode. hopefully Wii U sales will pick up, if MK8 doesn't do it, none of the other already established IP's will, and Nintendo then should just think about giving Wii U something completely new and Unique. To those who say Mario kart didn't change the fortunes of N64 and GC, well lets be honest none of the games looked so awesome, the reviews have also been good, a good word of mouth from the fans starting June and hopefully the sales will pick up.
I commend the effort, but I feel this type of game needs a big production, I can't see indie developers being able to create a solid experience with such games.
I commend the effort, but I feel this type of game needs a big production, I can't see indie developers being able to create a solid experience with such games.
@Peach64 Well, there wasn't any actual games released by Nintendo in April, and this isn't the individual format chart, maybe things will be better with Kirby and Mario golf when the may sales show up, but overall you're right, the only really good thing going on for Nintendo is 3DS in japan, other then that we don't hear any good news from any other place.
@CaptOlimar30 that might have been an acceptable argument if the two 6 months old consoles that have less UBI games wouldn't have had more sales. Wii U has everything they have but no Zombi U or splinter cell for them. You can all try to make this about the quality of UBI games, but they have been some of the best games in the past year, the problem has been that UBi put a lot of stock in Wii U and got no return in it's investment and is rightfully moving on, it's not like they are mad at Nintendo, what millions of dollars they made through Wii, some small part of it they lost with Wii U, and now they will release Watch_dogs as the final AAA game on Wii U, after that we will only probably see smaller and newer franchises like child of light hit the Wii U. for me I have my PC and will buy a PS4 very soon, but for teenagers (that probably will only get one of these choices) I don't expect they will hop on the Wii U train.
yea I'm having a though time deciding between Zelda and Pikmin 3, both are apparently great games, I haven't played Zelda for years, so I'm thinking maybe it's best to go with Pikmin, not sure.
@gatorboi352 yeah I agree, the off screen when you can't use the tv is great and I use it a lot, but for example in FIFA, my mini map is on the gamepad, and I can barley use it, if I look down I can't see the game, the only way you could really use it is in co op games and off tv, the whole dual screen thing doesn't work well in most cases.
@kobashi100 well not that I need to explain myself to you, but a Company that had it's last generation Console sell over 100 million, won't sit back while the current gen sales 10, what you don't understand is Nintendo didn't think things with turn out the way they did initially, and now it's desperate and it will find any possible way to boost sales, you will see.
@Yoshis_VGM yeah, everyone is so quick to assume that, the truth is when spending all that money on creating a console from scratch, no company will ditch it so easily and move on, every one saw what happened to Sega and the lessons learned. Wii had six years if I'm not mistaken, and so I would say the Wii U will hopefully go till 2018 before it's replaced.
well, I truly believe that although Wii U won't be Nintendo's biggest success but it will reach around 30 mil by the end of it's life, yes I said it 30, more than GC, equal to 64. yes it will be third in the console war but, it won't be the disaster the media and fanboys are trying to make it. if like Iwata said it gains momentum it will easily reach 8 million a year and that will be enough to get to where it needs to be.
@Peach64 I don't know about Wii U, but as I said kirby opened number 1 in US chart, and well I think we're all hoping MK8 will open first too, of course in individual Formats, I can't see how it can beat Watch_Dogs in all formats.
well, the reality is Nintendo is doing worse in UK then it is in every other country, for example Kirby opened first in US with golf following it in 7th place in the same week (may 3rd), that is very solid for two games opening on the top 10, although the only other game released that week was Spiderman. I hope things start to get better in UK though, this is very bad.
@brandonbwii you're exactly right, specially right now with the sales of the Wii U, Nintendo needs a game changer, people think Metroid or Star Fox can change things, they can't, I'm not saying I don't want them, but it's time Nintendo gives us something new, a new genre maybe, or one of the newer more popular genres that exist today. something that creates a new generation of Nintendo lovers and brings new opportunities.
OMG, I loved "I lived on the Moon", and after watching it my first instinct was the creators of this music video should be making games, so happy to hear this.

But I'm still hopeful, Wii U is currently selling at a rate of 1/4th of PS4, if it doesn't fall more behind and keep at a steady pace, it will finish with the 30 mil I believe and hope it will reach, while PS4 will probably hit somewhere between 100~120.
Re: Nintendo Brand Manager Hopes Mario Kart 8 Will Serve as a "Catalyst" for Wii U
@Darknyht
Well I agree with you there, what I'm saying is Nintendo has either got to re invent it's previous franchises or give new IP's, polishing the same old games because the formula worked before just doesn't cut it, for example look at SM3dW, probably the best platformer I played in my life, and the single player and local multiplayer was brilliant, but I wish It had online as well, it would have been great. they should do something new, that's all I'm saying, and I think the hardware is capable of doing it, they still can make things a whole lot better.
Re: Reminder: Nintendo's Wi-Fi Service on Wii and DS Closes on 20th May
they should have at least moved games that don't have newer versions available, to new servers, for the time being.
Re: Nintendo Brand Manager Hopes Mario Kart 8 Will Serve as a "Catalyst" for Wii U
@Yorumi
God, people like you.... you're hopeless... can't be saved. you don't get it do you??? oh well never mind.
Re: Nintendo Brand Manager Hopes Mario Kart 8 Will Serve as a "Catalyst" for Wii U
@Yorumi
@Darknyht
Re: Nintendo Brand Manager Hopes Mario Kart 8 Will Serve as a "Catalyst" for Wii U
@Nntndo_1986
Yes you are correct, but the good news is these problems can be fixed with updates, of course if Nintendo listens to people.
but I'm also hopeful they release a dlc that adds arena for battle mode.
hopefully Wii U sales will pick up, if MK8 doesn't do it, none of the other already established IP's will, and Nintendo then should just think about giving Wii U something completely new and Unique.
To those who say Mario kart didn't change the fortunes of N64 and GC, well lets be honest none of the games looked so awesome, the reviews have also been good, a good word of mouth from the fans starting June and hopefully the sales will pick up.
Re: Road Redemption Developer Outlines Plans for a "Living, Breathing World"
I commend the effort, but I feel this type of game needs a big production, I can't see indie developers being able to create a solid experience with such games.

Re: Wii U Software Has a Boost in U.S. Sales as LEGO Takes Over
@Peach64
Well, there wasn't any actual games released by Nintendo in April, and this isn't the individual format chart, maybe things will be better with Kirby and Mario golf when the may sales show up, but overall you're right, the only really good thing going on for Nintendo is 3DS in japan, other then that we don't hear any good news from any other place.
Re: Ubisoft Makes Little Mention of Nintendo in Plans for Financial Year, Sales Show Why
@CaptOlimar30
that might have been an acceptable argument if the two 6 months old consoles that have less UBI games wouldn't have had more sales.
Re: Yo-kai Watch and 3DS Continue to Lead the Way in Japan
wow 3DS has close to 3/4 of the entries in the software chart, what's interesting to see is that how bad the PS4 is doing in japan.
Re: Mario Kart 8 Free Wii U Game Promotion Extended to Scandinavian Countries
yea I'm having a though time deciding between Zelda and Pikmin 3, both are apparently great games, I haven't played Zelda for years, so I'm thinking maybe it's best to go with Pikmin, not sure.
Re: Review: Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails (Wii U eShop)
@gatorboi352
yeah I agree, the off screen when you can't use the tv is great and I use it a lot, but for example in FIFA, my mini map is on the gamepad, and I can barley use it, if I look down I can't see the game, the only way you could really use it is in co op games and off tv, the whole dual screen thing doesn't work well in most cases.
Re: Satoru Iwata Explains "Conservative" Wii U Sales Projection of Just 3.6 Million Units
@kobashi100
well not that I need to explain myself to you, but a Company that had it's last generation Console sell over 100 million, won't sit back while the current gen sales 10, what you don't understand is Nintendo didn't think things with turn out the way they did initially, and now it's desperate and it will find any possible way to boost sales, you will see.
Re: Nintendo's Plan for "Redefining the Definition of Video Game Platforms" Around Two Years Away
@Yoshis_VGM
yeah, everyone is so quick to assume that, the truth is when spending all that money on creating a console from scratch, no company will ditch it so easily and move on, every one saw what happened to Sega and the lessons learned. Wii had six years if I'm not mistaken, and so I would say the Wii U will hopefully go till 2018 before it's replaced.
Re: Satoru Iwata Explains "Conservative" Wii U Sales Projection of Just 3.6 Million Units
well, I truly believe that although Wii U won't be Nintendo's biggest success but it will reach around 30 mil by the end of it's life, yes I said it 30, more than GC, equal to 64. yes it will be third in the console war but, it won't be the disaster the media and fanboys are trying to make it. if like Iwata said it gains momentum it will easily reach 8 million a year and that will be enough to get to where it needs to be.
Re: Swords & Soldiers HD to Invade the Wii U eShop on 22nd May
Yep, I will get this too, good price, and I've never played the first one.
Re: Club Nintendo Rewards Updated for May, Physical Items Return
@MrCanzine
yep, they should just move it to the Wii U virtual console, I would get it if I could play it with pro controller or the gamepad.
Re: Mario Golf: World Tour Hits a Bogey in UK Charts
@Peach64
I don't know about Wii U, but as I said kirby opened number 1 in US chart, and well I think we're all hoping MK8 will open first too, of course in individual Formats, I can't see how it can beat Watch_Dogs in all formats.
Re: Mario Golf: World Tour Hits a Bogey in UK Charts
well, the reality is Nintendo is doing worse in UK then it is in every other country, for example Kirby opened first in US with golf following it in 7th place in the same week (may 3rd), that is very solid for two games opening on the top 10, although the only other game released that week was Spiderman.
I hope things start to get better in UK though, this is very bad.
Re: Interview: Yanim Studio on its Kickstarter-Funded Wii U Adventure, Red Goddess: Inner World
@brandonbwii
you're exactly right, specially right now with the sales of the Wii U, Nintendo needs a game changer, people think Metroid or Star Fox can change things, they can't, I'm not saying I don't want them, but it's time Nintendo gives us something new, a new genre maybe, or one of the newer more popular genres that exist today. something that creates a new generation of Nintendo lovers and brings new opportunities.
Re: Interview: Yanim Studio on its Kickstarter-Funded Wii U Adventure, Red Goddess: Inner World
OMG, I loved "I lived on the Moon", and after watching it my first instinct was the creators of this music video should be making games, so happy to hear this.
