When the system was first revealed, people were having a lot of fun dreaming up different Joy-Con variations. It'd be really cool to see Nintendo release a cheaper pair of GameCube joy-cons with analog triggers, basic rumble and no motion controls. I don't see it happening but it'd be a cool thing. You could have an SNES version that drops the rumble entirely but features a standard D-Pad, too.
Alex's pack destroys all others. Stunt Race FX was a great game, though I can't remember why? I just know that twenty years ago, 7 year old me thought SRFX was the coolest *#$^ ever.
The overload of clone characters is pretty outrageous but you can't argue with 8 new tracks and the amazing Link/Eponacycle combo.
As far as Diddy Kong..? He's getting his own racing game next year. (http://kevincallahangames.wordpress.com/2014/07/09/the-strange-development-of-diddy-kong-racing-2/)
Am I the only person who dislikes Mega Evolution? The magic of Pokemon for me is leveling up these creatures and seeing them evolve and change radically. M.E. is an unnecessary addition to a formula that already worked great. And the fact that I have to watch a cut-scene EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. really takes the fun out of using the mechanic.
Wish they would consider the US audience more in making the games. I don't mind Japanese cultural references, but one of the DLC episodes was so niche that they decided to forego localizing it altogether. And they do a pretty poor job of proofreading the dialogue, which is what they're alluding to when they say you'll spot differences, I'm sure.
The point I'm trying to make is.. I'm not sure. Make Ghost Trick 2, I guess. Really, though. Make Ghost Trick 2, please!
The most I would pay for this game is $10. You gotta be kidding me, right? Make a real baseball game with online play where I have to use a motion plus to swing and we can start talking. Same with golf, same with bowling. Get rid of boxing.
The first line of the review says that independent developers are flocking towards the Wii U despite the doom and gloom surrounding the console. In point of fact, so many independent game developers are coming to Wii U because the lack of third-party content (the doom and gloom of the system, if you ask me) has opened a huge hole in the marketplace for content like Shovel Knight to be exposed to mass audiences.
I second any comment that custom-printed Mii Amiibos would be a smash hit. Not only could Nintendo charge more for custom printing, but I would gladly pay the difference.
As far as the "fresh new course" that Amiibos are setting... sitting back and watching my computer character fight for me doesn't really sound that fun. And how are my friends supposed to join in, do they lean over my Gamepad and swipe their character?
The Amiibo concept is built on mysterious "potential". I'll believe it when I see it. I like figures and I'll probably buy a few but this reeks of a cash grab to me. That's fine, Nintendo has earned the right to do it in a desperate situation.
@Tsuchinoko He releases Miiverse images M-F. It would take him 4 weeks worth of posts to cover all the Final Smashes. Over 20 characters. I don't think we'll get many more.
I honestly think Shenmue could double the record on Kickstarter and raise, at the minimum, $20 million. I know I am at least one of the people out there who would contribute the full cost of an AAA game ($60).
I'm probably in the niche minority but this game looks amazing. I was laughing at every stupid pun in that trailer. 'Bat and switch', 'rusty slugger'. I'll definitely download it and buy some of the mini-games.
The biggest IF is IF the series is good, the games could be big hits. It won't be the other way around because of the user base.
The chance for the games to be good is high, though. All of those Naughty Dog adventure games are great and it couldn't hurt for Sonic to be a little more like Crash. And we haven't had a great game like Crash in a long, long time.
@Mizore Developers are lazy? It costs tons of money to make games and developers work crazy hours as it is to try and meet (what are usually) unfair deadlines.
Nintendo is asking third parties to devote resources to their system, yet the install base is small and the rate of return most likely minimal.
I hope Nintendo does some kind of hybrid home/portable console next generation. Nintendo has more than enough great games to sustain one system.
This is what we would get if the next Nintendo console were a hybrid portable/home console. The tablet screen and fold out controllers would function as a second screen GamePad, but if you took it on the go you'd able to use it as a portable game player.
Of course, battery technology would have to improve for that product but I can envision a future where it would be very successful for a company like Nintendo, who'd be able to focus on making great games for one console.
For anyone who is trying to figure out whether this is good or bad news, the word "urgent" points you towards the not-so-good. This game is going to miss 2014 or... they could possibly split it up into two releases.
This is news I needed to hear. AA:DD has been tops on the eShop charts for a long while, though who knows how many units they actually ended up selling. The 5th game in the series was the best yet and I can't wait for the next one.
Nintendo had a really good chance to earn some momentum and have blown it with this server mess. Sad to see because the Wii U is just getting started and the 3DS is as strong as any system out there.
They can earn it back by releasing SMB3 and Zelda LTTP now as a free gift for this debacle. Not that they would.
N64 games on Virtual Console. New Metroid. New Starfox. Link to the Past and Mario 3 on the eShop BOTH OF EM. SNES games on the 3DS. GBA games on the 3DS.
Wow, what a lucky contest winner. Why can't us normal people have these things?
Copped Mutant Mudds: Deluxe on the Wii U and Cave Story on the 3DS, haven't played either. Nintendo could win me over with some more sales, and there's plenty of time left for it. Next Thursday will be the day after Xmas, wouldn't be a bad day to release both Link to the Past or Mario Bros. 3, and have some more sales across the board.
If this is true, I consider it good news. It would be a good sign that Nintendo feels confident in their Fall/Winter line-up, enough not to hold back on Smash Bros. and Mario Kart.
Miiverse is kinda gimped but it's still kinddddddda sweet. The main attraction is the "yeahs"! It's a game for people and as long as it runs fast enough I think people will use it. It's faster than I thought it would be. It's a full app, if not a full featured one.
This game was incredible. But I disagree with this: "It's a shame there wasn't more English dub to break up the particularly text-heavy sequences." The anime cut scenes have terrible voice acting. It's not even worth it.
Bobby Fulbright is the greatest character in this game. His justice is the most just, and he actually manages to be even better than Gumshoe.
@Longforgotten Wowwwwwww, didn't even think about it this way. Can't be far off from the truth.. they are just trying to think of any way they can to get people to buy the Wii U.
I also think, though, that the 3DS hardware isn't very sophisticated and wouldn't have been able to run a full Miiverse software smoothly the way the Wii U does. I'm guessing that's why it looks like this MiiVerse will be browser-based, a beefed up version of the web app.
New Leaf has the best comedic writing in a video-game; the Nintendo Tree House people are crazy talented.
With that said, I put my 200 or so hours in with New Leaf, had a lot of fun, but I'm not really interested in going back other than out of a sense of responsibility to my town. There's just not that much left to do outside of being a collector and I can only collect up to a certain point.
Some of the previous comments make great points. We don't need more shops but more and varied kinds of buildings and businesses where the player can work. I love the idea of a zoo. I think the customization needs to go even further, to the point where you can save a ton of designs and easily share a ton of designs.
We'll probably never get mini-games in Animal Crossing though the coffee shop kinda approaches it. I wish there was more stuff like that. The Zoo could be fun where you have to feed the various animals the right kind of food.
The devs are clearly focusing on the right things, I think a Wii U-3DS cross platform title makes a lot of sense, maybe two different games that communicate with each other and feature a vast in-game network that allows players to easily share stuff with friends, as well as the Miiverse integration.
In conclusion, more customization, more online, more activities, these aren't at all essential to making money but they would all make the core game more interesting to a wider variety of people.
SNES should be on 3DS and N64 should be on Wii U, period.
Nintendo has no idea what it's doing with online and sales, still, after all these years. Incredible, but okay. They should be releasing an N64 title every 6 weeks, and dual-play SNES titles for 3DS and Wii U. Unified accounts need to arrive and incorporate this immediately.
Nintendo messed up the Wii Virtual Console's capacity for profits and I think they're messing this one up, too.
@HyperSonicEXE Agree and disagree. They are banking on Mario and the holidays selling a bunch of consoles, which is a reliable expectation. They're also expecting that next year the double release of Smash and Kart are going to really push the install base.
I think they're waiting for that time to start dumping a lot of classics. Those old games are profitable no matter what, but if you can advertise the hell out of 'em and really maximize the profit, then Nintendo is essentially getting an extra game on their release schedule.
Now that the 3DS has a really healthy install base, Nintendo is surely going to put LTTP on 3DS VC before Nov. 22. Similarly, once a whole bunch of people have purchased Super Mario Land, I'm sure Nintendo will announce an impending release of SMB 3 on the Wii U VC.
VC should be cheaper, in an ideal world, but this is a world where Nintendo needs to make every last cent.
I hate when my rival tries to undercut me. But that's why I'm carrying one of each 3 kinds of starter in Torchic, Chespin and Squirtle. Maybe GAME should employ this strategy.
But we all know the software sells at the end of the day. When you ask a game store employee why you should buy a system, **they shouldn't have to sell you on the features of the console itself!!!**.
What sells systems is when some ill-informed customer asks "why should I buy a Wii U", the store manager in 2014 will say "your kids are going to want to play the new Mario Kart and Super Smash games". I will be very surprised if the Wii U doesn't start selling well then.
The name is stupid, I think we can all admit that. When I was growing up, I had a SUPER Nintendo. Oh yeah, your Nintendo plays 8 bit cartridges? Mine plays 16 bit.
The name should make more sense. Playstation never tries to mess with anyone. Microsoft shoots itself in the foot constantly with strange naming conventions. And so now does Nintendo.
The WiiHD would have been a decent enough name. "Plays regular Wii games and new WiiHD games".
Nintendo will be fine, IF they can keep a steady stream of great first party games coming. But that's a big IF- we all know how long and arduous the game development process is.
At the end of the day, Nintendo has a unique place in the marketplace as the home for games that appeal to all ages, not just 18-35 males. As long as the games are there, like they are on 3DS, and the price isn't prohibitive, I think Nintendo will succeed.
