@element187 I don't think it's a case of "no games" but "no games" that people were interested in. It would have been better to have SSB or Mario Kart preferably around the launch month. Something to shift some Wii Us off the shelf in a better number. I would hope this would make third parties sit up and notice and get excited because the PS4 and Xbox One would still be a way off at this point.
Also the Wii U started off ok and lost momentum quickly, the PS3 started off poorly and gained momentum a bit as the price became bearable and the games better.
@BillyCupid I know! I haven't see ONE advertisement on TV in general let alone advertising this specificfeature, it might be because I don't have cable or satellite but still, the DS advertised loads of times back in the day on normal TV and I have seen the 3DS advertise sometimes.
@Falco Consider them dropped the Wii U is too expensive for them now and they are not about upgrading tech. Now they have their Wiis they are fine with those. I predict that Wii U Fit will sell poorly. None of the "hardcore gamers" are interested and none of the casuals own the device.
@Frapp
It's strange but the PS4 seems to command a lot of respect right now in the gaming community. It's being hailed as the true "console for gamers". The 3DS is getting a lot of respect as well even on troll dens like IGN but it had to work it's way to that by having a superb library of games both first and third party. The Wii U unfortunately does not get automatic respect from the gaming community and will need to show it's worth it's metal like the 3DS.
@element187
It could simply be that they think SSB and Mario Kart are going to boost sails exponentially. Which is both a bit delusional and a bit grounded.
But I wonder what secrets they do have in store... hmmm...
@Falco
I disagree. The Wii U's audience is not wide enough. Apart from the hardcore Nintendo fans no one else has a reason to buy the console. It misses out on many of the multiplatform third party releases/not a multimedia system which rules it out of being the primary console in a house. It's too expensive/not too appealing to the casual crowd. Not enough games for the RPG/FPS crowd. And too weak for the spec obsessed bunch.
@hcfwesker
The off Tv play is so underrated. It's my favourite feature and one I would have thought hardcore gamers would love. Maybe everyone has five TVs nowadays but it's a godsend in my house.
I really hope people will support this game if it's good. I've already pre-ordered it. It's important to show good offerings from second and third parties have as much of a home as Mario or Zelda on the Wii U.
@H_Hunter
I'm a big RPG fan too. My favourite two game series of all time are Kirby and The Witcher series lol
I think there is a chance for a handful of JRPGs making it to the Wii U but whether many will be released here is another question entirely. As for Western RPGs I've given up entirely on games like Dragon Age, Skyrim, Fallout, Witcher etc type of games making it to the Wii U. As an RPG fan it's impossible to own a Wii U on it's own. It's a shame because the DS and 3DS are such a good RPG fix, I can easily just own those and not get another handheld console.
Nintendo should try and forge good relationships with the upcoming indie developers that actually come up with unique ideas for the Gamepad like this one. Start a fresh seeing as traditional third parties are not interested.
The Wii U had so much potential to me. Classic Nintendo games but also powerful enough to have games like Bayonetta 2 and games with deeper experiences like X. WHY WHY WHY won't western third parties see what they are missing especially in the context of RPGs, FPSs, Racing games or strategy games.
Remember all those neat ideas developers came up with when we found out about the tablet Gamepad? What the hell happened to those ideas? It's like they completely disappeared when they found out the XBox One and PS4 were going to be more powerful.
@dumedum
I'm worried about what will happen afterwards though. You've listed key titles such as SSB, Mario Kart, Zelda, X which might drive sales for a while. What will we play after that? That why third party is so important, it fills the gap while Nintendo make new titles. While I wait for the next Nintendo big hit on my 3DS I can play Etrian Odyssey, Pokemon and Bravely Default. That can't really be said about the Wii U unless they get compelling third party support and by that I don't mean games coming to the previous gen but multiplatform games coming to PS4/Xbox One or third party exclusives built from ground up for Wii U.
@gamerphil07
All that will cause is them saying third party titles don't sell on Wii U and not put any more on. I know it's because they usually put out a weaker version but they'll spin it like that as an excuse to drop support.
@Nintenjoe64
Sorry for my misunderstanding and It's wrong what they did to you. Don't you have any letters from GAME that you can use as proof that you registered your card to your address? But hoping the retailer is "killed" would affect more than just the people who messed you over and some are hard working and professional.
As for them ignoring the Wii U, GAME always get really buzzed about a new system and the bad sales for Wii U means they probably allocate less marketing towards it, thinking it a lost cause. Nintendo is a bit to blame here as well by not enticing 3rd party developers enough.. If you're from UK you must know not getting FIFA is a MASSIVE blow to the Wii U selling in the UK. No wonder GAME aren't interested.
@Doma You sound surprised about that lol. If ASDA had been hailing the Wii U as the best thing since sliced bread then people would be claiming how much they love ASDA. If a company says something bad about Nintendo from ASDA to Ubisoft to Crytek then it's always something is wrong with that company and Nintendo are faultless angels
@Kirby3ds
Probably, I wouldn't put it past them to run back when the going is good, that's business, but the Wii U's bad publicity hasn't really improved whereas it seems the PS4 can do no wrong.
Why would you want that? If ASDA went out of business how many people would lose their jobs? 150,000. And you want that to happen because they wouldn't stock your favourite console. Ok then.
@Kaio-Ken
Haha in retrospect I really should have realised that good to know you're liking the look of it
@Einherjar
I guess no one will know for sure until it releases. Best thing to do is wait for NintendoLife and other sites to review it. Looks very promising so far
Seriously though, I've given up on Western third parties supporting the Wii U for now. I'm thinking more long term for the Wii U. When Smash and Mario Kart comes up and sales increase then third parties will creep in. They will also be looking towards sales of games new to Nintendo consoles that are a bit maturer like Bayonetta. If it does decently then that might help as well.
I asked about a 3DS version but he mentioned something about Unity engine not supporting the 3DS. Though it's definitely not out of the question. This game in 3D would look so good
Well, the main game is going to be between 15-20 hours worth of gameplay and that figure was quoted before we reached all those awesome goals. A lot of RPGs have endings like that but just don't explicitly state that they are the first episode of something.
@Kaio-Ken
I'm a backer so I'm really interested to know what you don't find appealing. Do you not like JRPG's in general or is it something else?
I don't think they thought their game would sell massive amounts of Wii Us. Just more than it actually did for something that wasn't a port and was a new IP exclusive. When it didn't sell as well as they hoped I guess they decided to cut their losses. Can you blame them? If my game didn't sell well I would be a little scared too and want guaranteed sales on Rayman Legends. Why should they focus on increasing the install base? They are out to make money with quick results. And so the circle continues. No games means no hardware sales but third parties won't make games because of hardware sales...
How is that lazy my whole point was the fact that they are multiiplatform releases coming to the Wii U which is good for gamers. Because apparently multiplatform now means everything except Wii U. What about the already growing number of games skipping Nintendo out again this gen and coming to PS/XBox. Witcher 3, Kingdom Hearts 3, Grand Theft Auto, Dragon Age, Final Fantasy XV, Fifa, Battlefied, Mirror's Edge, The Division, Thief and there's much more. That's why I acknowledged Ubisoft's Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed for actually coming to the system and giving it a chance.
As for exclusives we'll have to wait and see whether Mario Kart and SSB are going to be the savior of the title and shift some Wii Us. If all goes well more third parties will bite.
I'm sorry, that was uncalled for. I just get annoyed when people act like all third parties are evil goblins and that Nintendo can do no wrong. It wasn't really directed at you just a general statement of attitudes that I see sometimes.
How is Pikmin 3 a risk. It's a sequel in a very popular and highly rated franchise? Casual Wii Party type games are risks? Please. I'll agree with you that the Platinum deal was a risk and a good one that I'm glad for. Unlike what seems to be most Nintendo fanboys I can't survive purely on Mario and Zelda. Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 are very welcome.
What? At least they made an attempt to make something unique for the Wii U when other third party offerings were crappy ports :/ At least they are supporting the Wii U with their major AAA games such as Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs. Nintendo fanboys never fail to amaze me
Backed. Looks amazing, FFX was my favorite and first FF. Also I asked about a 3DS version but he said Unity Game Engine doesn't support the 3DS yet but he wishes he could bring it there. It looks perfect for the 3DS though, would be great in 3D
Why is it so many devs keep coming out and saying the Wii U is underpowered compared to PS4 and XBox One but people here in the comments keep saying it's not. Surely their must be some factual proof on this one way or another :/
Sometimes you can't play the games. I don't usually watch Let's Plays but when I do they've usually been Japanese 3DS games so I can get an idea of them such as Fantasy Life, Time Travelers or Bravely Default. It makes the pain of not having them easier to bare
"As for why, I guess I'd rather not go into that."
I wonder what he means by that. Let me guess, he has no ACTUAL reasons for why they refuse to develop for Nintendo's home console. Only lame excuses. I know I shouldn't let it get to me but the arrogant apathy of some third parties towards the Wii U just grates on me sometimes.

It's kinda sad that indie third parties have better ideas for the Gamepad than apparently AAA game studios:
