Re: Epic Doesn't Plan To Improve The Frame Rate In The Switch Version Of Fortnite

Maxtremors

@andykara2003
It’s not just the graphics that need to be taken into considerstion, it’s the resolution, the amount of players, draw distance, there are tons of things to take into consideration. If Epic could get it working at 60fps on the Switch, they would. They got it working at 60fps on the newest iPhones, which are substantially more powerful than the Switch, but not on older iPhones (which are still more powerful than the Switch). You can’t point to linear single player games that run at 60fps and then claim that if they can do it, fortnite should be able to. BotW is very similar graphically and it only runs at 30fps, and it’s not even a multiplayer game. Go watch Digital Foundry’s video (or read their article) about the Switch version of Fortnite, they were impressed with what Epic was able to achieve with the Switch hardware.

This still kind of annoys me, this is like the fifth interview or press statement where they’ve said ‘soon’ without so much as a vague release window. They said ‘very soon’ back in December, and they said the same thing earlier last year, with that kind of track record ‘soon’ is meaningless. If it’s not actually ‘soon’ and is more ‘we’re not really sure’, they should just say so instead of stringing people along.

@Yorumi
Yes, I’ve seen the effects of gun violence up close and personal. The difference between a handgun, shotgun, or rifle and an assault rifle is the an assault rifle is capable of discharging more rounds more quickly. In the case of this most recent shooting, Las Vegas, and Pulse, there wouldn’t have been such high body counts if they hadn’t used assault rifles.

@Senpai_Bruh
I have no problem with people owning hand guns, shotguns, and hunting rifles, assuming they own them legally. I would like to see more stringent background checks, to fix the NICS system, and I don’t know if I agree with the legality of concealing firearms (I think people should be able to carry them, just not concealed). I do think that that assault rifles, bump stocks, and any firearm or accessory that is capable of killing mass amounts of people in a short amount of time should be banned outright. I’d also like to see ammunition (including supplies to make your own ammunition)!require the same background checks as the guns themselves. Military grade weapons have no practical civilian application, they’re impractical and unsafe for home protection, they’re not good for hunting, they only thing they’re good for, and were designed for, is to kill humans quickly and efficiently.

@Mainer82
Actually violent crimes and the murder rate are down drastically compared to 30 years ago. We’re seeing a higher incidence of mass shootings because of the availability of military grade assault weapons. Mass shootings have always existed in the US, but the number of victims used to be far less because the types of guns available weren’t designed to kill as many humans as quickly as possible.

Re: White House Meeting With Industry Execs Focuses On Violence In Video Games

@Gauchorino
That link is basically gun lobby propaganda. The data they’ve presented is all completely misinterpreted, intentionally misrepresented, outdated, and in many cases just factual incorrect. Just the first statistic alone claims guns are used 80x more to defend against crime than to commit them, which is completely false, the real number (by their own admission in their citations at the bottom) is between 3.4 and 5.7x, and even those figures are likely inflated.

The truth is guns ARE part of the issue, there is no reason a civilian needs military grade assault weapons. They have no use other than killing people, they are ineffective, impractical, and unsafe for self/home defense, and they are what has allowed these mass shooters to kill as many people as they have. To deny that easy access to military grade assault weapons are part of the issue is just insane.

Re: Soapbox: The SNES Classic Edition Pre-Order Farce Proves Nintendo Hasn't Learned A Thing

I know a lot of people want to blame Nintendo for this, and they are partially responsible, but the majority of the blame goes to the retailers, scalpers, and the whole pre-order culture that retailers have convinced us to participate in. I am willing to bet a good third of available consoles are going to people who intend to mark them up and resell them (a lot of them are probably people who maybe passively wouldn't mind having an SNES mini, but are going to try and resell it). That a ridiculous amount of consoles that are going to people who aren't really that interested in it. I get that people really want it, and there may be some disappointed kids on Christmas morning, but we should collectively as a community stop supporting scalpers, just don't do it (I'm not trying to tell people how to spend their money, but these scalpers are only getting more prevalent, and this is the only way to stop them - unless eBay and Craigslist started taking down preorders and people selling new, just released products for above MSRP). The point is Nintendo can't keep upping their production to account for a system that is fundamentally anti-consumer.

Re: Gamevice Launches Patent Case Against the Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con Concept

@geox30
Before the iPhone there were blackberries and sidekicks, the iPhone was the first modern smartphone (yes there were other touchscreen devices, but they weren't capacitive and they didn't have phone functionality). Google came out with the first Android phone, the G1 shortly after (it still had a qwerty keyboard and track ball and slid open). As much crap as Apple gets, they absolutely deserve credit for the form/design and functionality of the modern smartphone.

As far as this lawsuit is concerned, it's obviously a last ditch effort on Gamevice's part to stave off bankruptcy, they haven't had a successful product, they're clearly desperate. They will lose, the Switch is clearly different from either of their products in several ways, and even if they lose, Nintendo has the money to outlast Gamevice in the appeal process.

Re: Nintendo Apologizes for Switch Shortages, Promises an Increase in Production

Maxtremors

I was just in the Netherlands, and the Switch is near impossible to find there, like way worse than the US. In fact, I saw games stores advertising that they would buy used Switches for like 360€, which is over $400. I don't believe in the 'Nintendo purposefully holding back stock' conspiracy nonsense, but I do wonder how they decide to allocate stock, because it seems like some in countries they're not scarce at all, and in others they are all but impossible to find. I got mine at launch, and have seen them for sale off and on (if you live in the NW, check out Fred Meyer, they pretty much always have at least one or two when I go in there), and I'm sure it varies by region, but as scarce as they seem in the US, we have it better than a lot of countries, if you're willing to call around and set up alerts on stock tracking websites, they're not too difficult to find. I don't think it's as bad as the Wii launch, I doubt we'll see people lining up almost two years after launch.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Discusses NES Mini Demand and Apologises to Those That Missed Out

Maxtremors

@thesilverbrick @thesilverbrick
Except the 3ds/2ds line outsells the NES mini like 10 to 1, plus they make money from the sales of games. Even if Nintendo increased production to meet the demand, the NES mini is still a niche product with no added game revenue. I can't help but feel like most of the people that are being so obnoxiously vocal about the NES Mini only want one because it's supposedly rare. It's a novelty at best. As much as I love the NES, I grew up with it, let's not sit here and act like the majority of those games have aged well, really only a couple are still playable for more than a few minutes. And a true collector or someone who is into retro gaming would want an original NES with the actual cartridges anyway. Personally, I'd rather buy the few games out of those 30 that are worthwhile from the virtual console, than buy a retro shaped emulator and act like it's the real thing, or buy one just because it's the newest 'holy grail' for covetous consumers who fear missing out more than they have an actual interest in owning this year's tickle me Elmo or whatever.
