I myself conquered the All-Stars version of SMB for the first time on NSO a couple of months ago! I'd given myself an education on retro games as a kid on Wii Virtual Console, but even with the Warp Zones I couldn't get past the dastardly Hammer Bros in 8-3.
The different physics behaviour when hitting your head on blocks screwed me over quite a bit, but I managed to do all levels, no Warp Zones, using the max lives trick. This was very rewarding, and really did feel like some form of redemption after all this time!
On the day of release of Smash Ultimate I got the train home from uni, to make a surprise appearance at my friend group's launch party. I bumped into an acquaintance on the train, and told him of my plan. After he showed enthusiasm I whipped my Switch out in tabletop mode and we played Smash with single Joy Cons; these things do happen!
@rjejr Thank you for dropping the knowledge, it's rare to see such highly technical discussion in these comments!
It is fascinating to see these design concepts be held on to for decades, and re-imagined down the line. It shows the creative heart of Nintendo that these ideas weren't completely discarded after they were deemed unfeasible.
What wasn't made clear in this article is that this port of Super Mario 64 runs natively (no emulator involved), in DirectX 12. This makes it different from all versions previously assembled by modders etc., and opens the door for a whole host of options not possible before now, like adding modern post-processing techniques using ReShade as mentioned, and much more ambitious mods!
@FX102A a few years back I bought an adaptor named Wii2HDMI, which from my experience had no noticeable input lag (coming from someone who's very sensitive to that kind of thing), and image quality looked decent too. I'm sure there are higher quality adaptors available since then, which hopefully aren't as expensive as the one the Smash player Hungrybox endorsed. Hope this helps!
@Luffymcduck I agree, but from a tournament perspective it is not viable to pick any Omega stage, due to the differences in blast zones. Only Omega Palutena's Temple ended up being used, since it was the only Omega stage to have the same sized blast zones as FD, but even then that stage isn't used any more as far as I know.
For friendlies and casual matches sure it doesn't really matter, but in tournaments these small differences really do matter.

Re: Soapbox: Could Switch OLED Actually Make A Reality Of Nintendo's Cheesy Tabletop Dream?
Though nothing will top the 2016 train setup of Wii U, Gamepad and GC adaptor playing doubles in Smash 4, to the bemusement of the other passengers!

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 8.1.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@TalesOtaco The short hop aerial buffer prevents you from buffering a full hop aerial, making it more difficult to consistently full hop aerial.
Re: Random: Kirby Appears In New Fortnite Party Royale Trailer, Gets Blurred Out In PlayStation And Xbox Clips
I guess this just confirms that Epic have indeed bought the rights to Kirby. Ever wondered why that Kirby game was free-to-play?

Re: The Flip Grip Creator Was Working On GameCube Joy-Con, But Someone Else Beat Him To It
@HenFjo Don't worry, he used Wavebird shells which were left over from other projects, so they were going spare anyway! (see 1:51 in the video)

Re: Masahiro Sakurai's Arcade Days Taught Him To Be Mindful Of All Types Of Players
@Fantasia The blast zone sizes actually differ between Omega stages, meaning that they aren't all uniform.
