@NSBlueLighing I heard that the game is at least 50 hours of gameplay. If you haven't seen the exploration videos of the field maps on youtube, you should check them out now. The landscapes are huge, and there are a ton of areas too. The game is massive.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure the game you mention is called "Kingdom Hearts".
Your subtitle was misleading. I thought you told us to settle down because you actually had news for us. There is still no news and there will still be no settling down.
@13 These games are definitely obscure. Nobody knows they exist. They're only some of the best selling hardcore titles on the Wii in Japan. No deal. Nobody cares if they are released anywhere else. </sarcasm>
@17 Yes, but the point is that those games have made a lot more money here than they have in Japan, so Nintendo has no point in fearing low sales. And look at how well Last Story and Xenoblade have done in Japan. If low sales is their reason for not releasing these games, then Nintendo is making a mistake.
Nintendo's statement had "No" written all over it. They're just trying to get this whole thing to stop, because they really don't want to deal with it. They have no intention of releasing the games or listening to their fans. Cool. I am joyed that Operation Rainfall will continue. It's not over, Nintendo.
@102 I don't know... None of those look particularly interesting. I really enjoy JRPGs or adventure games, but strategy games aren't really my thing; nor are fighting games. I know I'm being a bit unfair; there are a lot of genres out there, and its hard to produce good games for all of them, but its just annoying that decent JRPGs ARE there--right in front of their faces--and they aren't releasing them.
@100 Any recommendations? You're right; they must be overshadowed, because I haven't seen that many, and I haven't found any I would find worth playing.
@94 Remakes don't "count", because they show a lack of effort to produce games that consumers will enjoy. They just take the old games that were very popular and resell them to us to make tons of easy money. I don't like playing the same games over and over again; I want something new, something surprising, something I can look forward to.
It is sad that there is a lower appreciation for JRPGs here in NA, but I wish that NoA would stop worrying about only taking the games that make bank and giving something fun to the people who don't like 'casual' games. Why don't they take the risk of selling me games, like I took the risk of buying their console?
I was really shocked with the sudden change from Europe and PAL not getting anything to North America being neglected. I know its has usually been the other way around; Voltslash, I do feel sorry for you guys.
Tonebone, there are some decent games on the Wii. i had loads of fun with NSMBW with the co-op element, and the VC games gave me some entertainment, but that's the bad thing. I own more VC games then I do Wii games, and I have had more fun with them then I have had with many of the Wii games I have played. Besides, nothing cuts the cake for me like RPGs do, and I dearly hope that NoA has one of their surprise things up their sleeves right now with these recent titles.
As an RPG fan I took a risk getting a Wii; one I have greatly regretted. Aside from Zelda and Okami the Wii has been filled with a bunch of lame games that had no purpose, no excitement, and no reason whatsoever to be played. Of course this is my opinion, but as a company that seems to be more catered to gamers of any age and any type, you, Nintendo, have only released games for little children and those 'casual gamers'. You have failed me Nintendo. Good luck; I'm done.
@24. Yeah, except the bought out Free Radical, which were the original makers of Goldeneye 007 and the creators of the BEST FPS series, Timesplitters. Yes, I said best. If you don't believe me, try it out for yourselves. Oh, the mapmaker would be so much nicer with the touch screen and motion controls! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crytek_UK
It may be lacking in story sometimes, and it may be fairly easy at times, but its positive points well make up for the few negative ones. I actually like the story of Chrono Trigger better than FFVI's, because it has more elements of surprise and a constant stream of new content, which the vastly different time periods help to create. The only big issue I have was the lack of character given to the final boss. He just seems so nonexistant and boring when it isn't 1999.
@2 This isn't some random nobody! Yoko Shimomura is a great composer, and some of the ACE+ stuff is even better. This is a great soundtrack! I can't wait to get my hands on this game.
....!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats a perfect idea for split screen gaming!!!!!! Why didn't anyone think of this before!? Rumor or not, that's pretty cool.
@52 I'm pretty sure the controller will be a redesign of the gamecube controller after all the crap the wiimote has gotten for its waggle controls. It is no surprise to me that Nintendo will play it safe and go with a tradition, but they will always innovate.
Okay, you're almost there. Just one more step now. Hey, you don't even have to be retranslated; you're already in English now. Just one more step and you'll bring a whole new genre onto the Wii--one many have been waiting for for a long time.
Physical games are the best. Time to bring back the NES cartridges! Really, angry birds is run for a quick fix, but other than that, it has no match for the quality of Nintendo's physical games (but not all of Nintendo's games...).
Its funny how IGN's review is really generous towards the game and continuously says good things about it, when NintendoLife is really critical towards it. The differences are so wide (IGN praised the motion controls, while Nintendo Life pounded them to the ground). Although I agree that the game is certainly not perfect and that it is quite similar to the previous Zelda titles, it holds true to what makes Zelda great. Nintendo doesn't like to change their formulas up, because they want new gamers to appreciate the same thing. I was new to Zelda when I played Twilight Princess, and I have rarely felt so engrossed and interested in a game since... Okami. I have to agree with IGN more on this one.
@106 (theblackdragon) To each his/her own opinion. OoT is so boring to play twice, but TP captures me thoroughly. Maybe that is because I love games with great stories. TP beats all other games in creating an interesting plot and atmosphere that add an entire new dimension to the series. In OoT, you just run around beating the temples, without any real reason to, other than obtaining the six seals that no one cares a bit about. Oh hey, Ganandorf's dead! Now way! When did that sneak up on me? I felt no emotional attachment to OoT. I know it had more limitations, but that still doesn't make it a better game.
(I guess this game and discussion are long past, but I felt I had to add to the minority opinion.)
@6. Yeah, except the whole second half of this game was just a monotonous barrage of sidequests. Also, I believe the combat system in CT is way better, because not only is it a perfect balance between the excitement of action based combat and the strategy of turn based combat, it has individual skills for every character, not just a special technique. In FF6, I felt that I had to teach every character the most powerful moves, and that just makes the characters more neutral and less fun to play as. Sure the music of FF6 is good, but I challenge you to listen to every final fantasy soundtrack of the games prior to it and tell me how much difference you can hear. Simply for its originality and its ability to capture and display emotion, the soundtrack of Chrono Trigger exceeds that of FF6.
@32 The lack of color does suck, but I don't have any creative talent to compose music, so no sound is more practical than any sound for me. I actually created an engine for an NES style top down RPG thing, but the matrices that stored the area maps took up way too much memory... and then I accidentally deleted the picture files for the tiles. I haven't touched it since.
The interview said it was over half way done, which people took to mean half way done. Just goes to show how much information can be stretched. I hope this game is good. I'm kind of tired of the same old zelda story, but if its really good, then that doesn't matter.
@11 Come on, whats with the bashing. Instead of working separate, we should work against our common enemy... Japan! They always get games way before any of us. I need some Wii JRPGs!
And... GBC is the winner! Yay for AA batteries. I think that you can remove the title of portable from portable consoles now, since they have to be plugged into a wall constantly to use them anyways.
Good year. Heres hoping for an even better 2011. With Xenoblade, Last Story, and Skyward Sword, we may just have that better year. Come on, translators, do your stuff!
