Re: Analysis: Assessing Why NX Needs to Take Over From Both the Wii U and 3DS

Malakai

This article is asinine to say the least. I don't even know where to start when even wrapping my head around this article.

The 3DS didn't have any stellar non-niche (aka system seller) titles in FY 2015-2016 (March 01, 2015 to Feb. 25, 2016) nor even a decent price cut nor bundle to even help with sales momentum. (BTW I'm under the opinion that, Yo-Kai Watch is too Japanese to sell in the West) With the Wii U, god help the Wii U...

As if Nintendo was going to keep three systems ticking along into 2017 and beyond. It makes no sense for the company to do that; we suspect the Wii U is already in the process of being wound down to minimal levels, while the 3DS will likely be catered to beyond this year as a budget device. Neither system has the sales or momentum to justify any effort beyond that.

The problem with that logic assumes that the customers' 3DS and Wii U just magically stops "working". It doesn't work like that Mr. Whitehead. Nintendo needs to STOP dropping off legacy systems like did the N64/GameCube/Wii. Heck even Sony does a better job with this then Nintendo with God of War 2 being released in 2007 after the debut of the PS3. Your viewpoint is very anti-customer.

Re: Talking Point: Five Key Challenges Nintendo Faces with the NX

Malakai

@Quorthon The difference is that instead of Sony having almost all of them, they were split largely evenly between the X360 and PS3 . Xbox + PS2 sales equaled roughly 170 million, X360 + PS3 sales equaled roughly 175 million.

I will call BS on this statement. You can't freaking add up the PS2 numbers with the OG Xbox number. The PS2 continued to be sold for an additional 6 years after the Xbox was discontinued. Also, approx. 50 million of the PS2 come from Sony targeting emerging markets during PS2 later years. (And I am not trying to knock down from during this. Your inference is straight up wrong)

Furthermore, Xbox 360 and PS3 loss BILLIONS OF DOLLARS . In all honesty, Xbox 360 and PS3, given the backing of the ENTIRE INDUSTRY and given the length of time that the Xbox 360 and PS3 were supported to be at just 170 million in sales is quite an under achievement....

Oh yeah, BTW. Don't get made at people at this site because your company game bombed. Other companies were able to find success on Nintendo's eShop platform.

Re: Core Console Market Bigger Than Ever, Despite The Impact Of The "Wii Bubble"

Malakai

Another point of contention with the article, one would have to factor in the price of the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 during the first few years compared to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. I don't recall seeing neither of two generation 7 systems hitting the $299/$349 price point like we saw with the Xbox One last year during black Friday. Also, I don't recall all of the trade in your Xbox and PS2 for a $150 credit towards a Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 deals last generation which have occurred in the United States since the release of the generation 8 systems.

Re: Core Console Market Bigger Than Ever, Despite The Impact Of The "Wii Bubble"

Malakai

The article is pure trash. Of course "Core" title sells are up! That is what the game industry is pushing this generation. Also, I love how author dismisses RPGs, Simulation, Puzzles and Strategy genre as not being "Core" titles. (They are missing from the chart) Never mind, let us NOT discuss the quality of the "casual" titles which would have drove the "casual" gamer away last generation. (Or the rapid releases of titles in the Music genre games).

Re: Talking Point: Wii U Gamers Have Been Treated Poorly By The Third-Party Retail Scene, But The System Still Brings Joy

Malakai

@electrolite77 Yet Third parties where bankrupting themselves over programming and developing expensive HD games for the PS3 which wasn't, at the start developer friendly....How convent for you to overlook the past....
Anyway, out all of the games you, do you even know if they were marketed or not? I recall reading that Zack and Wiki were basically sent out to die via Capcom.
Whats up with blaming the customers for the lack of sales. All that mean is the software isn't compelling in the first place...

Re: Industry Analysts Speculate On Nintendo's Future And Satoru Iwata's Possible Successor

Malakai

@Quorthon Then why did Sony basically erased the profits made from the BOTH PS2 and PS1 eras during the duration generation 7? Generation 7 Sony lost $5 billion dollars and Microsoft lost billions as well. That is why the off the self ducked taped netbook/tablet CPUs in the generation 8 consoles only have 2009 level processing power... I'm sorry you believe the Wii was a fad and all. But there wasn't any other option for Nintendo to go in other than the Wii.

Re: 3DS Hits 15 Million Sales Landmark in the US

Malakai

@Quorthon Goodness, you again. It would be rational if you would consider the price, the lack of western third party support for the 3DS and slow localization process of eastern third party games when comparing to the previous Nintendo handheld consoles...

Re: Talking Point: Is Konami About To Exit The Console Game Business?

Malakai

@Quorthon
Really, I know you aren’t trying to go there with Nintendo with the restrictions placed on publishers after the industry gaming crashed of 1983. The consensus is that this lead to consumer to actually trust in the console video game medium again after the market flooded with games that didn’t even work…

Re: Treyarch Isn't Working on Call of Duty: Black Ops III For Wii U, Though Activision is Noncommittal

Malakai

@Quorthon Really, everybody know that you hate the Wii. The Wii was a fluke and Nintendo's success with it should always be discounted. Yes, it was a fad that broke all sorts of records in sells. Like selling 3.8 million in one month (December 2009)... Also, according to you Quorthon, Nintendo's portable systems are failures as well(since Nintendo failed 4 times in a row whatever that suppose to mean)...even though, most likely they are most profitable due to higher margins and lower overall cost development cost.

I'm going to keep this short sweet and simple. Third parties treated Wii customers like dog fecal matter. Nintendo, stepped up and reach a new freaking market yet the “industry” didn’t even make an honest effort to engage that new market. Instead of developing good games given the power that the Wii had (like Nintendo) they gave the Wii audience delayed ports, mini game collection galore and glitch ridden games. In turn, this leads to mid-level developers to close up shops due the “industry” focus expensive to develop on sub 720p PS3 and Xbox 360 (Yes, I said sub 720p because most of the games don’t even run in native 720p let alone 1080p). You don’t need a lot of power to make good and engaging games and clearly indicated by Nintendo first party sales. Furthermore, this increase in power lead to longer and more costlier video game development cycle which gave rise to this day 1 dlc and on disc dlc and other sketchy stuff the “industry” have to turn a profit. Whereas the Wii was cheap to develop for and, most likely, there was some familiarity due to the Wii and Gamecube similar architecture. I don’t know of any other “industry” except the “gaming industry” where a platform would be disregarded for lower development cost like the Wii was.

And don’t get me started on the 3DS launch that Nintendo, themselves, gave to third party developers and what did they release on it? Trash, filth and tragedy. So please leave us alone on this “Nintendo fans” don’t buy third parties when a lot of the time they leave us no choice to disregard their games until they reach bargain bin prices…

Oh yeah, @Quorthon, do the math on the revenues that Nintendo will lose to going third party. From the top of my head Nintendo get about 60% of the cost of the retail game vs 30% like a third party developer and publisher would have gotten. Also, you would have to remove the money Nintendo makes from third party publishing games on their platforms, loss of selling accessories and the money generated from selling the consoles as well…

I’m not trying to say Nintendo is completely blameless in this mess. (Better launch games for the Wii U, especially tailored around the gamepad and better marketing would have help profusely) However, you think third party blameless you need to reexamine the evidence and history.
