Re: Video: Sonic Superstars Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & PS5)

@Axelay71 I guess it's no different to music and films... As you get older, you naturally become jaded and get that "heard/seen/played it all before" feeling.

Just like I find myself listening to the same albums over and over, so I find myself revisiting the same games.

That said, I'll probably pick this up when it's cheaper. I'm also looking forward to SMBW amongst other things. There are still loads of good games out there, it's just getting harder to sort the wheat from the chaff (which is where Nintendo Life comes in!)

Re: Reminder: The 'Mario Red Edition' Switch OLED Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting It?

LieutenantPete

This definitely has an uphill battle. It's so late in the Switch's lifecycle. This is either for dedicated collectors or somebody who needs to replace a broken Switch. Otherwise it's aimed at a Mario fan who hasn't already bought a Switch... Not sure how many of those people are out there?

That said, I love the red, even though others seem to think it's boring. Red and blue would have been pretty awesome too. So, although I won't be getting one (and am not sure who it's aimed at), I still really like it.

Re: Take-Two CEO On Backward Compatibility: "Give Consumers What They Want"

LieutenantPete

I'm heavily invested in the current Switch ecosystem, so I really hope that Nintendo will incorporate backwards compatibility into their next system. I fear they will lose a lot of goodwill if they don't (they certainly would with me).

The fact that their online offering is subscription-based gives me some hope here (it removes the incentive to attempt to re-sell us old games as they've done in the past).

Re: Poll: Super Mario All-Stars Is 30 Years Old - Do You Prefer The NES Or SNES Versions Of The Classics?

LieutenantPete

My first encounter with Mario was Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES. I loved it and played it over and over. However, I was blown away when Super Mario All-Stars was released on the SNES. For me, the SNES version is the one that I always end up returning to.

Something that sticks in my mind though, is that in one of the underground levels there was a hidden block that was given away by a "glitch" in the positioning of the stars in the background. On the SNES version, the "glitch" had been fixed, so if that were my first encounter with the game, I probably wouldn't have found that block. So in that sense, I prefer the NES version for its authenticity.

Re: Video: These Replacement Joy-Con Sticks Fix Drift Issues, But How Do They Feel In Practice?

LieutenantPete

I was forced into replacing my sticks when my sticks got damaged. They were drift-free from 2017-2020. Anyway, got some replacements online that worked, but had way too much play in them when centered - a kind of very loose deadzone.

Finally picked up some of these back in May and they're a revelation! They definitely have more resistance, but in a good way. As others have said, they feel smoother, more controllable and precise. Playing with joycons is not the best experience, but for me, these feel better than the originals. Of course, that's just my subjective opinion.

Re: PlayStation Boss Doesn't Think Call Of Duty Appeals To Nintendo's Core Audience

LieutenantPete

@Truegamer79 I totally agree. My one exception is the GTA series (which, to be fair, is so ludicrous, I'm not sure it could count as "realistic"). Outside of that, I just want to escape reality. There's more than enough reality outside my front door (and too much reality in the news). I guess that's why I have about 10 Switch games to every 1 Xbox game, and why I'll always be drawn to Nintendo - assuming they don't change their family-friendly slant any time soon.
