Woah! How did I miss this. I hope it's going to include the original Barry Leitch soundtrack. Yes, I can play the originals on my SNES, but this sounds interesting on the face of it. I'm off to do some research...
Edit: Just watched the video, which seems to answer my question about the soundtrack!
@Axelay71 I guess it's no different to music and films... As you get older, you naturally become jaded and get that "heard/seen/played it all before" feeling.
Just like I find myself listening to the same albums over and over, so I find myself revisiting the same games.
That said, I'll probably pick this up when it's cheaper. I'm also looking forward to SMBW amongst other things. There are still loads of good games out there, it's just getting harder to sort the wheat from the chaff (which is where Nintendo Life comes in!)
@Axelay71 I, too, can remember that. I can also remember spending £40-£50 on SNES games ~30 years ago, so in real terms video games are a relative "bargain" nowadays...
This definitely has an uphill battle. It's so late in the Switch's lifecycle. This is either for dedicated collectors or somebody who needs to replace a broken Switch. Otherwise it's aimed at a Mario fan who hasn't already bought a Switch... Not sure how many of those people are out there?
That said, I love the red, even though others seem to think it's boring. Red and blue would have been pretty awesome too. So, although I won't be getting one (and am not sure who it's aimed at), I still really like it.
I'm heavily invested in the current Switch ecosystem, so I really hope that Nintendo will incorporate backwards compatibility into their next system. I fear they will lose a lot of goodwill if they don't (they certainly would with me).
The fact that their online offering is subscription-based gives me some hope here (it removes the incentive to attempt to re-sell us old games as they've done in the past).
My first encounter with Mario was Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES. I loved it and played it over and over. However, I was blown away when Super Mario All-Stars was released on the SNES. For me, the SNES version is the one that I always end up returning to.
Something that sticks in my mind though, is that in one of the underground levels there was a hidden block that was given away by a "glitch" in the positioning of the stars in the background. On the SNES version, the "glitch" had been fixed, so if that were my first encounter with the game, I probably wouldn't have found that block. So in that sense, I prefer the NES version for its authenticity.
I was forced into replacing my sticks when my sticks got damaged. They were drift-free from 2017-2020. Anyway, got some replacements online that worked, but had way too much play in them when centered - a kind of very loose deadzone.
Finally picked up some of these back in May and they're a revelation! They definitely have more resistance, but in a good way. As others have said, they feel smoother, more controllable and precise. Playing with joycons is not the best experience, but for me, these feel better than the originals. Of course, that's just my subjective opinion.
@Dm9982 I'll never forget discovering Command & Conquer when it was bundled with a new PC that my parents bought. I spent many happy hours in the company of that game and its various sequels.
@Truegamer79 I totally agree. My one exception is the GTA series (which, to be fair, is so ludicrous, I'm not sure it could count as "realistic"). Outside of that, I just want to escape reality. There's more than enough reality outside my front door (and too much reality in the news). I guess that's why I have about 10 Switch games to every 1 Xbox game, and why I'll always be drawn to Nintendo - assuming they don't change their family-friendly slant any time soon.

Re: Digital Switch 2 Games Being Cheaper Than Physical Is A "Challenge", Says Retailer GAME
Seems like Nintendo are paying lip service to physical, just to placate the fans whilst "nudging" us towards the all-digital future.
Re: Pokémon Partners With WildBrain To Stream First 22 Anime Seasons
So, I'm going to show my ignorance here, but is this the stuff that they're currently showing on the BBC iPlayer (found under the CBBC channel)?
If so, it'll be a shame to see it go from there.
Re: Random: Handheld Specialist Creates Prototype 'Switch Lite OLED' Mod
"We love the smaller format of the Switch Lite, but going from an OLED screen back to an LCD screen is often a tough pill to swallow."
You'd better brace yourselves for 'Switch 2' then...

Re: DreamWorks Trolls Remix Rescue Is Bringing Action Platforming And Music Mayhem To Switch
I see Outright Games being mentioned in the comments here. My experience of Outright Games' games is not great.
Do GameMill have a good reputation? If this plays like an OG title I'll be giving it a wide berth. I really hope it's good. 🤞

How did I not know that Street Fighter 2 got a GameBoy release? Time to head to YouTube to check this out...

If it's not true co-op like Pikmin 3, my son's going to be very disappointed, as am I.

What a great little video! I like that it doesn't go too deep. I might have to take a look at some of the others now...

Wow! Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (NES) was released about 900 years earlier than I would have expected.

Why is "The Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse" not even listed on this site?
