Seriously this is a silly question in 2021. It’s seven years since the last one. We’ve all bought it twice already - give us a new one! Every who’s bought 8 is going to buy 9 as well.
@N8tiveT3ch I know how you feel. I barely play any games anymore. It’s all just ports, cheap indies and JRPGs on Switch. I’d happily pay €100 for a new Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, PilotWings, F-Zero, Advance Wars or Excitetruck.
I don’t mind indies but they’re all so similar - roguelikes and metroidvanias galore. So many JRPGs - I used to love them but the market is beyond saturated.
Very generic in general. Everything is just copying something else. That Pokémon Snap rip-off looks reasonable and it’s interesting to see a new version of House of the Dead. But in general, it’s hard to get excited by the umpteenth roguelike to come out this week.
@MS7000 Nintendo, despite having loads of money, is not willing to invest in fan-favourite series sadly. They’ve become very ‘corporate’ over the last number of years. The innovative, playful company is a thing of the past. We still have their old games to enjoy though.
After the Pokemon Direct earlier, I can just feel the disappointment already. Their line-up for the year is a known quantity and we are just going to get more details.
So no Megaton announcements like Pokemon Stars, no new Wave Race, F-Zero or 1080 Snowboarding, and only a slight possibility that we will finally see what Retro Studios have been up to....
Mind you, you never know as they can be unpredictable, but I just don't "feel it in the air" this time.
No problem. The Vita has a lot of decent racers so if you have one of those you're much better off ignoring the 3DS's offerings outside of Mario Kart 7.
Ridge Racer on the 3DS isn't great. The car handling is very "on rails". It's not a patch on earlier iterations. It becomes very fast and nearly impossible to control correctly. It just doesn't feel like you're driving a car.
Whilst it's no masterpiece, it's certainly deserving of some kind of appraisal. I hope my review will help others decide whether it's worth playing or not.

Re: Surprise! Nintendo Confirms That "Many" New Games Are Coming This Year
We desperately need new racing games. Surely there's a market for a new Ridge Racer, F-Zero and/or Wave Race on the Nintendo Switch?

Re: Nintendo Announces Game Builder Garage, A Quirky Programming Game For Switch
Excited for this? No. But this is the ‘new’ Nintendo we’re talking about, producing software for a different generation.
People like me who want a new Wave Race and F-Zero are not the market Nintendo wants anymore. Perhaps we just don’t give them the money they want?
Re: Video: Milestone Unveils Its Second Stunning Gameplay Environment For Hot Wheels Unleashed
This looks excellent. Very Ridge Racer meets F-Zero. Tracks and handling look fun.
I doubt it will look this good on Switch but maybe on the new console?
Re: 1080° Snowboarding Creator Announces Carve Snowboarding For Oculus VR
Looks a bit “indie sparse” to me. What made 1080 so good was the controls and simulation. This doesn’t really look like it moves right to me... 🤨
Re: Residual Confirmed For Switch As Apogee Entertainment Makes Publishing Comeback
@CromAstronomy I've always thought indie games were meant to be innovative. From what I see on the eShop many fall into one of three categories:
2D Metroidvania
Topdown Roguelike
8/16-bit pixel platformers
The market is surely at saturation point with all these games? Would like to see some fresh ideas but will they sell?
Re: Residual Confirmed For Switch As Apogee Entertainment Makes Publishing Comeback
Have people not had enough of the pixelly platformers yet?

Re: Nintendo Indie World Showcase To Air Tomorrow, 14th April
Very hard to get excited about 'indie' games when Switch is awash with them.

Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch
Meh. That was a disappointment. Yet another port.
And a Virtual Console release and an update to a game that already exists. Sigh
Re: Mighty Gunvolt Burst Has Been Revealed for Switch and 3DS
Definitely picking this up on 3DS

....which is why I felt compelled to submit a reader review to Metro's GameCentral last week:
