I thought Nintendo wanted some kind of mass market appeal? Buy 1 game and that's around £100 more than a PS4 or Xbox with a game. As much as I want this to succeed, I can't help but think that it won't.
Apparently Nintendo don't want my money! The deals don't appear in my rewards section and if I follow the link in the article and press redeem I get a 'unable to compete the process, please try again later' error message. I guess this 'just for you' offer is not for me. Thanks Nintendo, I guess I won't get to spend any gold coins just yet...
It's a shame that Nintendo dropped rewards for physical purchases because I don't think they are particularly strong on digital purchases. Don't get me wrong, the eshop on the 3DS & WiiU are an improvement on before but for most other digital stores decent offers and sales lead the way, on the eshop you're lucky if the sale price matches the common retail for most full price games.
This really throws into contrast the sterling work Sega and M2 did with the 3D mega drive games. An additive port, sweet performance on limited hardware and reasonable price point. A compelling proposition. These VC ports show how regressive Nintendo can be right now.
@arronishere No, not sure. But I can't see a special edition on the web though, can you point me in it's direction? It looks to me it lost it the tag line early 2015, around the time of the playstation releases. There is some prerelease playstation marketing that still uses it. Now their website, steam & PSN are all just Starwhal. Only the kickstarter still has it.
The choices remind me of the Everybody votes channel on the Wii. I'm going south, that's what always happens when I play splatoon! That and it's actual terra firma, rather than just some floating ice.
Locking content and gear behind them in splatoon was a big mistake and has tarnished the game for me a bit. You feel you're missing out on a fair chunk of content if you don't have all of them but the cost of all three is prohibitive. That's even if you could get them at the intended RRP. The amiibo content could be offered separately, a amiibo card pack perhaps? But then the game has been criticised for the initial outlay in some places so perhaps that could make it worse.
@Emblem Okay, glad it worked out for you. I still think it would have been easier without the call to Nintendo. Did you have to prove it was stolen? Also what about any WiiWare/Wii VC games?
Nice to see extra functionally rather than just stability but I still want download games tied to my NNID rather than the hardware. I've got Wii U full of downloads that I could lose if it gets stolen or bricked. I know Nintendo might let me download them on another machine should the worse happen but they've made it clear they don't have to. What if I get tempted by a special edition and buy a second 3DS? It's an all or nothing transfer.
I love the idea of going all digital but for my Wii U Nintendo have made a number of choices that stop me. First is the cost, not just on release but over the lifetime of the game. Nintendoland on disc from Game is £20 in the e-shop it is £50, that is utter insanity. Second is the worry that games are tied to my hardware. Lose my 3ds or buy a new one (the screen does scratch easily) and any downloads aren't there. My Wii U breaks? Nintendo MIGHT restore the games, but I'm not 100% on that, they legally could refuse. Third is storage. I know, I know, I can just get a hard-drive for the Wii U, and I probably will, but it is another barrier. The storeage supplied on the Wii U is sometimes only enough for one game (Lego City Undercover?), pretty poor. So as it is I love the convenience of digital, less clutter, no hunting for the disc but while other platforms tackle at least some of these issues I'm much more likely impulse buy from them.
Despite owning a SNES I never played this first time round. I picked it up on the Wii VC and what struck me was the production values, the scale and look of the game is stunning. A true classic & the Wii U version gives me a good excuse to revisit it.
"Is Nintendo preparing a cloud-based system which allows you to sign-in and download content to another 3DS without having to do the awkward transfer?" I do hope so. This is a step in the right direction but knowing my games are tied to hardware not an account make me think twice about choosing the download option.
I'm really not worried about the size of the download, it's what Nintendo do with it that matters. On that front they have a history of doing a lot with a (relative) little.

Re: Nintendo's European eShop Halloween Sale is Now Live
@darthstuey Fair enough, I'll look into that one.
Re: Nintendo's European eShop Halloween Sale is Now Live
Pretty underwhelming all round. Might be tempted by Snake Pass, it seems like the only thing approaching a decent discount
Re: Nintendo Switch Will Cost £279.99 In The UK
Annnd I'm out.
At least for launch, especially without a game.

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards
Wow. So bad. If this is what considered a reward I don't really want to be rewarded.

Re: Monster eShop Maintenance to Run Through Most of 2nd November
It could just be to fix the holes and stop anything like the Twilight Princess HD leak happening again?

On a related note, Starwhal has lost it's 'just the tip' tag line. Not sure if it's related to the Wii U release or not.

Re: Each Splatoon amiibo Will Unlock 20 Special Challenges
@Ogbert I hope you're right but it's information I'd like confirmed before I'm going to lay down on the game.
Re: Each Splatoon amiibo Will Unlock 20 Special Challenges
Splatoon was a day-1 purchase for me but this could change that.
The cosmetic un-locks are fine but Amiibo specific weapons? No. Thanks.
An on-line shooter with weapons only accessible to a few (who have paid more) has steer-clear written all over it.

Re: Latest Wii U System Update Allows Console To Console Data Transfer
@SanderEvers That's fine IF you still have the second console (and don't want to keep it). If you lose or break it it's a different story.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)
@Pj1 it's £1.50 if you have it on the Wii VC and have linked them.
