Some of you may have had some trouble accessing the eShop today, and having assumed it was the usual short weekly session we decided to wait a short while. Then we waited a little longer.
In actual fact, the eShop will likely be down for most of 2nd November due to a potential 24-hour maintenance window; naturally Nintendo may finish its work quicker than that. It's only the eShop platforms and the equivalent download stores on Wii and DS that are down for that extended period, with the maintenance due to end at 7pm Pacific / 10pm Eastern on 2nd November, which is 3am UK / 4am CET on 3rd November for Europeans.
Before you get too excited, though, the following tweet from Nintendo's Japanese account has indicated this is a major server change, so won't necessarily lead to anything tangible and exciting for gamers.
Despite Nintendo's attempt at bursting the speculation balloon we can still dream. Our money's on new eShop music; yes, we're keeping our hype levels well down for this one.
I never get excited for these anymore.
Starting the upgrading for Nintendo Account is my guess.
Anyone remember Christmas day of 2013? Maybe Nintendo is preparing the load for the holiday traffic they'll receive
@Warruz I do agree that this is probably all for early revamps for My Nintendo. They're likely adding a lot of background things for My Nintendo into it. MAYBE we can see some early things added tied to it, but mostly its probably for improving online stability and setting up plans for how cross-buying will work.
The most I see that could come of this is maybe they release cross-buy soon before the Holidays, and you'll be able to transfer VC titles between 3DS and Wii U (and GB, GBA, SNES, and DS games will be able to work on both). That's the most I can see happening yet, but its hard to say if it will.
"so don't get too excited"
It would probably be easier for people not to get too excited if they would have the ND that they've said twice now they were going to have (once in general terms, once in 2015). And to announce the unannounced games that they announced where unannounced but didn't announce what they were, only that the unannounced games would be out in the next 59 days.
Can't imagine why people are jumpy.
I think the Direct will happen this week or next week.
Getting the servers ready for something really big!
So the update doesn't include more stability?
I'll be curious to see if they implement something that counteracts the eShop spoofing on older firmwares running a Homebrew Launcher.
Well the eShop music is definitely going to change, it's been the OoT Forest Temple music for the last week leading up to Halloween.
Look at us. Getting excited over eshop music. Do you see this, Nintendo?! What have you done?!
@Grumblevolcano You've been saying that for months
Data miners, brace yourselves!
There's been pretty good eShop music in the past actually.
I was about to do some downloads and was a bit worried I will miss some discounts because of this but fortunately that is not the case.
Speaking of eShop music — the 3DS eShop was advertising that music from Zelda was meant to be playing on Halloween but I was just getting the standard tune. There was music on the Wii U one at least.
@xInsomniax You greatly overestimate the general customer interest in the Nintendo eShop. I'm pretty sure they're well equipped to handle the 10s of thousands (if that) people looking to access their digital store.
This isn't amazon.com or anything here.
@RupeeClock Those are great!
We're gonna get data miners going NUTS on this...I can feel it...
@Grumblevolcano If you keep saying it eventually you'll be right.
Can't wait to see what rumors come out of this. Like right now I'm friends with someone's dad who works for Nintendo amd the unannounced games are SNES Remix, Virtual Boy Remix, and CDi Remix
@Gerbwmu Really? My dad's friend said they are working on an Wind Waker HD Remake, I'm really excited!
WOO NEW MUSIC
@JaidynReiman I think you mean Nintendo Account. My Nintendo is not the new account system and doesn't have it's own account. It's just the new rewards service.
It could just be to fix the holes and stop anything like the Twilight Princess HD leak happening again?
I've been having issues with the eShop on and off for days with server overload errors. At first it was probably too many people downloading things like FF but it was farting out earlier it seemed.
The maintenance is over:
Anyone else thinking the Direct will get either a) pushed back to 2016 or b) showcase Mario Tennis and amiibo Festival + not a lot else?
They added support for two pages of discount!
When will noa add the collectable crane game? Its been out over a year in japan and they have hundreds of cool icons to customize their main menu
How long will we wait?
