I know not everyone is into the series, but Borderlands the Pre-sequel is one I'd recommend. Borderlands is already sci-fi, but this one feels more sci-fi with zero g segments, moon buggies, more laser guns, and tons of sci-fi references. The 2001 Space Odyssey monolith was great. 2 may be a better game in many ways, but TPS has better level scaling and the Claptrap dlc is great.
I loved this game back in the day and just recently started playing it again on my 3DS after learning about the glitch that let's you cheese every match. I don't recommend it for newcomers, but if you love crafting decks and don't want to grind for hours to make whatever decks you used to have in a previous cartridge or in real life, then I highly recommend doing it. I've almost recreated my old, favorite deck in just a matter of hours and can't wait to experiment with others.
When they announced this, I was really confused that this was all it was. I mean, I guess they were clear about what was included. It's just a strange piece of DLC to me. Next, we will get option menu cosmetic DLC. Jokes aside, it's cool it's there. Just a strange way to sell it in my opinion.
For anyone looking for a fun 3D platformer for a younger crowd, I'd back New Super Lucky's Tale. Tried it on gamepass when it caught my daughter's eye. She liked watching me play and it was a chill, fun time. The levels after the story get hard, but the rest was a fun stroll with some good creativity. Some 2d levels, puzzles, and auto-run levels are sprinkled in as well.
Others may have mentioned it but, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a great BOTW like. Probably the most similar game I've ever played to BOTW and I like it a lot.
Though it gets a shout out since it hadn't come to Switch yet, Darksiders 2 is definitely my favorite in that series. The soundtrack is one of my favorites of all time too. It's more similar to Ocarina or Twilight Princess than BOTW.
Possibly the hardest question I've ever seen relating to games! So many amazing songs for so many moods. So many great ones on and off this list.
I had to go with Aquatic Ambience because it was the first time I really remember a song in a game hit me as being beautiful and moving. Not that there weren't incredible compositions before that were fantastic and memorable but this was something totally different. Other songs may pass ot up depending on my mood (even others on this list) but, I'll always remember the feeling of hearing this song as a kid.
Mario Party 3 hasn't been available since the N64 and I love that series. I've always lamented that it got the shaft on the Wii shop. Way excited.
I loved Goldeneye back in the day and Perfect Dark even more. I have the Perfect Dark remake on Xbox but, like people are worried about, it just isn't the same. Even when that game was remade, using anything but original controllers makes it just feel off let alone that this game will have the framerate issues. It'll be a novelty to revisit but, that's about it. I guess Rare is putting the remastered vesrsion on Rare Replay, so I'll check that version out. I doubt I'd get any of my friend's from back in the day to try the online multiplayer on Switch anyway.
I wish Nintendo would focus on backwards compatibility as they make games. I know a lot of people like new gimmicks of their consoles, however, it's a shame to me that the previous HD remakes are potentially stuck on WiiU as well as so many other Zelda or other games being stuck on certain consoles. Also, I don't love having to buy games over and over if I want them on the newest console. It was amazing getting a Series X and playing older games with no load times and just having almost everything on one console. PC is the same way. I'd love to play the 3D remake of Ocarina (obviously in 2D) or Link Between Worlds on Switch. Though the Switch has been great for me, I buy less and less for it because I'm assuming that my purchases are stuck on that console/generation forever. I'd buy way more games on Switch if I knew they'd carry over to next gen.
If I'm playing by myself, Age of Calamity. If I'm playing co-op with my wife, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. I prefer the mechanics of AoC, but the frame rate takes a big hit in coop. The Definitive Edition is silky smooth on Switch and it makes the coop experience a lot more fun.
A lot of comments have mentioned different important points on both sides and I don't feel like reading all of them, but I do wish Nintendo added button options when there isn't a good excuse not to have them. My understanding is that in Mario Odyssey, you can only roll by shaking the controller. Perhaps a minor thing to some, but it was annoying to only logistically use that while playing on a TV. Same thing with BOTW puzzle rooms where you rotate the platforms. I get that it's neat to rotate a controller to interact with the game, but I'd rather use a stick. However, I don't want to eliminate motion controls. Gyro aiming is something I love even though I usually dislike motion controls. I use it for fine tuning a shot in Ocarina 3D or BOTW and that's fantastic.
I'm not sure of the additional coding involved to make both features available, but if it is possible I think that's one small feature that would go a long way for those with and without limitations. It also future proofs games easier. Skyward Sword may best be played with motion for some, but inputs will allow the game to continue if motion does not.
First, they sell you the same games every generation because they aren't tied to your account for some reason. Now, they are charging you to rent games that should be linked to your account in the first place like their competitors practice. The online experience is inferior as well. They really want to see how far they can go by just making quality games. Aside from the games, the rest of what Nintendo offers is getting worse and worse comparatively. I love Nintendo, but come on!
I struggle with the idea that I have purchased many of these games several times over the years and that they don't carry forward in a compatible way to the next generation. Nintendo doesn't seem interested in making that a possibility in the near future either because they really can keep selling or renting the games as much as they want. It's not illegal and the games can be worth it. It's just a hard pill to swallow next to PC games and even Xbox emphasizing backwards compatibility.
I absolutely loved having my favorite Xbox games running better than ever when I got a Series X. Now, any third party game I buy won't be on Switch because I most likely won't be able to play it on future hardware. With the advent on console streaming and things like the Steam Deck, there are fewer and fewer reasons to buy anything not exclusive to Nintendo on their hardware.
I was able to play a little of everything tonight and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. Nothing feels right. The main game isn't bad necessarily, but it is different and that sours the experience. The mini games are the biggest casualty for me. Again, maybe they aren't technically bad, but so many of my favorites are just not the same game. Monkey target: launch is just glitchy feeling, you can't gain momentum the same way by going up and down, etc. Monkey Fight: movement is slow and stiff, no more flying high and landing, you're just dead when you go off. Monkey Baseball: I don't remember specifics as well, but I don't remember so many infield hits that went uncaught that became outs. Monkey Race: the physics just change everything about how it feels to play. Monkey Soccer just feels clunky. Monkey Billiards is the only one I've done that isn't worse that I can tell.
I'm not the most skilled player, but Monkey Ball was our main GameCube game for the longest time because of its variety and even if this release isn't "bad," it is still a big disappointment. I'll keep giving it a shot to see if I can uncouple my expectations from what is offered, but it's going to be hard.
I got all the shrines and quests, but not all koroks on the Wii U. On Switch, I have 100% completed on the map with all the optional outfits, medals, dlc stuff, and upgraded all my outfits and master sword... except someone just gave me nfc chips for additional outfits to get and upgrade. I'm not thrilled about getting more star fragments or whatever they are called. Master Mode just wasn't as fun to me. I didn't mind weapon durability in the normal mode, but in master mode it was a pain in the beginning and the whole thing just wasn't as enjoyable for the casual gamer I am now. I never thought I'd get all the korok seeds, but I just kept using them as an excuse to jump back into Hyrule until I got them all.
Video Game tunes are an incredible mix of good music while also triggering nostalgia. I connect with a lot of songs mentioned already and would add a few. Unravel had some great chill music, Summer Sky for example, but many others. Darksiders 2 had a surprisingly amazing chill soundtrack including Crystal Spire. Mass Effect, Vigil. Phantasy Star Online 1+2, Empty Space Out of Control. For Halloween chill, Borderlands 2, TK Baha's Bloody Harvest ambience. There really are too many to ever list. Love the ones added above.
For an event that wasn't really tied to the big 3 (Nintendo, XBox, Playstation) during the same time frame as E3, I thought it was pretty solid as far as these things usually go. Very little fluff (I mean the songs tied into games and they had short introductions sometimes), a ton of exclusives (including Elden Ring which had a ton of hype for a lot of gamers), and the developer segment after took time to showcase smaller games too. Personally, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is probably my most anticipated game that will come out of this coming week. It's incredible to me that Geoff has been able to build up these kinds of events.
So yeah, not a lot for Nintendo fans, but as far as just a gaming event, I thought it was more impressive than it had any right to be.
While a lot of older games have shaped my life and tastes in games, many of my "favorites" are more recent games. 1) Rocket League - combining the sport I played the most and my favorite past time into what is my favorite game of all time. 2) Smash Bros. Ultimate - I'm not even that into the Smash scene, but the game contains just so many things I like, it's always a good time, and I love the customization options. 3) Borderlands the Legendary Collection - I love the gameplay, the atmosphere, and the exploration in these games. The headhunter packs and Tiny Tina DLC in number 2 are so fun to revisit every year. 4) Breath of the Wild - While it goes against the Zelda formula established in Link to the Past, this is my favorite fantasy world to explore. There aren't many artificial barriers that limit your ability to go anywhere or try anything any time you want and that is so refreshing to me. 5) Mario Odyssey - Super Mario 64 was an eye opener for me as a kid. The ability to go anywhere and do anything blew my 10 year old mind. While I loved our Atari and other Nintendo systems, nothing could compare to that feeling for me. Mario Odyssey dials up that freedom and wonder to a 10 for me. While I'm a sucker for fantasy worlds like Hyrule, 3D Mario games have always been more "fun" for me and this may be the most fun I've had exploring a virtual world. Browser's Fury was pretty awesome for me as well and the best gaming weekend I've had since I was a kid. Honorable mentions - Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, JackBox Party Pack 3
@NicolausCamp That was one of my biggest gaming disappointments ever. I tried to go back so many times after hearing people saying it wasn't THAT bad... but it is/was. The Switch version was an old dream come true!
I'm a big fan of Borderlands and Switch. I love the Legendary Edition on Switch and enjoy the gameplay of Borderlands 3.
That said, I can't see 3 coming to Switch unless it's a cloud version. My Xbox One S really struggled with the game and load times were painful. I got a Series X in part to make playing games like Borderlands 3 less painful to play. Series X runs it great, obviously, and I can't imagine going back to a system that takes multiple minutes to fast travel or even boot up. Unless somebody works magic, I can't see how any amount of scaling down of resolution would allow this to run in an acceptable manner on Switch. I hope someone proves me wrong though!
3D World and Bowser's Fury with my daughter. I want ahead and got as many lives as I could on stage 2 of 3D World last night so we don't have to worry about her dying a lot (she's 4). I'm honestly struggling with the faster speed in the Switch version and being precise. Not that it's bad, but it's a hard adjustment after playing the original so much. We are both excited!
I feel like there is a lot of judgement being based on scores and not the content of the IGN review. That troubles me and points towards issues far beyond game reviews.
Anyways, while I don't agree with all the points made in the IGN review, I think there are some important ones. For example, the inherent differences in the characters does make fair competition in multiplayer pretty impossible. I still think it's fun. On the other hand, the shared life pool takes away the incentive for just having fun with the multiplayer. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the game on Wii U, but it does seem like some of the design choices contradict each other.
I'm still going to get the game and have a blast. I'm glad there are different reviews that cover different aspects and opinions of games that help me think critically about them, even if I don't agree.
Edit: Nevermind, just saw the overview trailer and that confirmed that you can create rooms for friends and 2 players can play locally while playing online. I was worried they wouldn't explain those details since there wasn't a direct scheduled.
Original: Maybe a dumb question, but has Nintendo confirmed details of the online multiplayer? Like, can you actually just team up with your friends? Can you have 2 people per console? I just keep getting excited when some of their more recent games advertise online multiplayer only to have strange restrictions. Like how you couldn't play two players per system in Smash or basically anything about how Mario Party's multiplayer turned out. Don't get me wrong, love me some Nintendo and I enjoyed this game the first time around.
I missed one event, can't remember which one. Hope it's one of these. I decided to go for the "living collection" or whatever it's called where you have a current version of all spirits. Since making the commitment and having to do story mode again for some, it's a real pain to be missing just a few, haha.
@Wilforce Honestly, I didn't find it too important storywise for BL3, though there are some echo tapes and some elements that do impact the story a bit. If anything, I think it just released to get the hype train rolling for BL3. Maybe I missed something huge, but I was actually confused when I played BL3 and didn't see a big connection.
I'm not necessarily a hardcore BL2 player, but I've played it a lot and completed this dlc on Steam a couple times. For those curious, I didn't find the story portion essential for BL3, but it's pretty solid and adds some gameplay elements. The level cap increase is only a factor if you plan on playing the game a lot in Ultimate Vault Hunter (not for casual players). The ability to start a character at level 30 is really nice though, especially for subsequent playthroughs. I was hoping the dlc would've been there at launch for that reason alone.
Lots of great games on the system and it's good to see so many of my favorites on the list. Maybe I missed it, but I loved Gauntlet Legends as well for all the classic arcade style dungeon crawling action. Great time with friends.
Maybe it's just because I'm old and missed 64 DS on original release, but I do really struggle with the controls in the game. Even on 3DS, it just doesn't feel precise because of the simulated nature of the analog stick. Also, having to reach over to attack while running and jumping is awkward. It's a shame because the added content is interesting to me and I love the original. That said, it's still at least "good" and is still fun.
I really appreciate you mentioning the availability date. I must have missed that on the podcast I heard about this on and was going crazy trying to figure out why I couldn't find the Zelda one on the site.
I just want to echo those who purchased the games and have been having a great experience. They may not be the kind of game for everyone and the price compared to other consoles is high, but this is a dream come true for someone who has about 1000 hours into the series and also loves the Switch experience. All games run great. Just need to see how online handles now...
Thanks for the interview and coverage. Maybe it's not for everyone, but these two games are favorites of mine and I love how successful they've become. Having them, especially 2, on switch is amazing. My Vita was a Risk of Rain machine, haha.
@EvilLucario for reference, my longest run was 126:34 and it wasn't till those last couple stages where things got really bad fps wise and only when there were massive amounts of enemies and item effects. I have similar experiences to others that posted up until that point. Even then, I still can't recommend it enough for the ability to play anywhere. Love this game.
@EvilLucario Getting the 20 stage challenge was almost as much luck as skill. After about stage 12-15, things get rough. Like in the single digits fps probably at its most crazy until I'd kill a bunch of enemies. I love this game even so, on pc and switch, but I thought I should respond with an honest answer. That was on easy too, though enemy count usually is about the same at that point. I still plan on playing almost exclusively on switch as I don't often attempt super long runs.
@Aurumonado It hasn't been too bad so far for me, but I'm sure better players might notice it more for precision plays (dribbling). I'm usually high platinum-diamond for reference.
@BigKing this might sound counterintuitive, but try competitive for a week or two. Competitive tries to assess your skill and match you up with similar players more so than casual. It might take a game or two for it to place you and your opponents well, but it is faster at it than casual. Casual takes a lot longer to assess you and your opponents skill level and the mode honestly doesn't try as hard to do so.

Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury File Size Revealed
Re: Paper Mario And Octopath Traveler Smash Bros. Spirits No Longer Limited Time
I missed one event, can't remember which one. Hope it's one of these. I decided to go for the "living collection" or whatever it's called where you have a current version of all spirits. Since making the commitment and having to do story mode again for some, it's a real pain to be missing just a few, haha.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Version 9.0.2 Is Arriving Soon
I'm hoping they add the spirits I missed to the Spirit Board. Drives me nuts when I miss an event and I'm missing 3 or 4 spirits for a couple months.
Re: The Latest Update For Borderlands 2 On Nintendo Switch Is Crashing The Game
@Wilforce Honestly, I didn't find it too important storywise for BL3, though there are some echo tapes and some elements that do impact the story a bit. If anything, I think it just released to get the hype train rolling for BL3. Maybe I missed something huge, but I was actually confused when I played BL3 and didn't see a big connection.
Re: The Latest Update For Borderlands 2 On Nintendo Switch Is Crashing The Game
I'm not necessarily a hardcore BL2 player, but I've played it a lot and completed this dlc on Steam a couple times. For those curious, I didn't find the story portion essential for BL3, but it's pretty solid and adds some gameplay elements. The level cap increase is only a factor if you plan on playing the game a lot in Ultimate Vault Hunter (not for casual players). The ability to start a character at level 30 is really nice though, especially for subsequent playthroughs. I was hoping the dlc would've been there at launch for that reason alone.
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo 64 Games
Lots of great games on the system and it's good to see so many of my favorites on the list. Maybe I missed it, but I loved Gauntlet Legends as well for all the classic arcade style dungeon crawling action. Great time with friends.
Re: Feature: Every 3D Super Mario Game Ranked
Maybe it's just because I'm old and missed 64 DS on original release, but I do really struggle with the controls in the game. Even on 3DS, it just doesn't feel precise because of the simulated nature of the analog stick. Also, having to reach over to attack while running and jumping is awkward. It's a shame because the added content is interesting to me and I love the original. That said, it's still at least "good" and is still fun.
Re: Someone Created A Hand-Drawn Guide For The Original Zelda And It's Breathtaking
I really appreciate you mentioning the availability date. I must have missed that on the podcast I heard about this on and was going crazy trying to figure out why I couldn't find the Zelda one on the site.
Re: Don't Worry eShop Users, You'll Still Receive "All 3 Titles" If You Buy The Borderlands Legendary Collection
I just want to echo those who purchased the games and have been having a great experience. They may not be the kind of game for everyone and the price compared to other consoles is high, but this is a dream come true for someone who has about 1000 hours into the series and also loves the Switch experience. All games run great. Just need to see how online handles now...
Re: Feature: Hopoo Games On Bringing Risk of Rain 2 To The Switch
Thanks for the interview and coverage. Maybe it's not for everyone, but these two games are favorites of mine and I love how successful they've become. Having them, especially 2, on switch is amazing. My Vita was a Risk of Rain machine, haha.
Re: Review: Risk of Rain 2 - Rough 'Early Access' Edges Can't Spoil This Rewarding Roguelike
Re: Review: Risk of Rain 2 - Rough 'Early Access' Edges Can't Spoil This Rewarding Roguelike
Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)
@Aurumonado It hasn't been too bad so far for me, but I'm sure better players might notice it more for precision plays (dribbling). I'm usually high platinum-diamond for reference.
Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)
@BigKing this might sound counterintuitive, but try competitive for a week or two. Competitive tries to assess your skill and match you up with similar players more so than casual. It might take a game or two for it to place you and your opponents well, but it is faster at it than casual. Casual takes a lot longer to assess you and your opponents skill level and the mode honestly doesn't try as hard to do so.
