Re: Super Sidekicks 2: The World Championship

I remember playing this game in the arcade, the visuals and sound are great even today. I never played it on a home system and was going to purchase it but i see that it's no longer available for download nor is the sequel. I cant find a significant reason for this

Re: Reminder: The Wii Shop Channel Closes This Month, Here's What That Means For You

Most of the games I had for the Wii were digital purchases, I tend to stick with that for sheer convenience and storage. I thought it was a better way to collect games too being that they cant really get damaged. Like the Wii the Switch has a fantastic variety of games for download but like that are the games yours long term when you buy digitally. Does it make a difference if the game is downloaded to an SD card or internal memory, Is the game ever yours for good?

It's almost hard to believe this is actually happening, stuck patiently with the Wii U in the hope that these games would come to the E shop only to be frustrated, now everything is getting released all at once. The retro catalogue is just getting better and better on the Switch, it's been worth the wait and long may it continue.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

Game-Over

If a classic games company like Capcom aren't supporting ur system then i think this news is exposing the Wii U's limitations and there not technical ones. The situation with the Wii U is like buying a Sony MP3 player and finding out that the only music u can play on it is music that was released on the Sony label, in a way this is what has been done with the Wii U. Nintendo have quietly made the Wii U a Nintendo only console, and while i like games like Mario Kart and Punch Out i think it's unfair that alternative choice and variety is being so obviously denied with the VC and eShop. I like Nintendo consoles, there games and the great history they have in the gaming industry that's kind of why u stick with them but being that the VC was one of the major reasons i bought the Wii U I'm justifiably disappointed with there approach this time around, being that a lot of the games i want to download (many of them third party ones) just aren't there and then finding out that there never likely to be. Whatever the problem is or not, technical or otherwise Nintendo seem to be in no hurry to enlighten anyone as to what the issue is, or why these games are not coming to Wii U.

If you have an Xbox 1 or PS4 to go with your Wii U ur probably not too disappointed by this news but if the Wii U is the only next gen console u have then the whole lack of third party games situation is getting pretty infuriating. The third party support is slowly becoming non existent, in a way this news should be kind of stunning being the Wii U is a next gen console but it's almost expected now.

Re: Capcom Is Bringing The Nintendo Exclusive Resident Evil Zero To Every Modern Gaming System But The Wii U

kind of knew that these games wouldn't make it to the Wii U, a pretty consistent theme Is developing here, there's obviously a fairly major problem there with 3rd party support on the eShop and VC that's not going to get resolved this gen. Classic games like this should be an absolute cert for a next gen dedicated games console like the Wii U but for some reason your more likely to be playing these games on your mobile phone then then the Wii U .

Re: Talking Point: The Fragility of Buying Download Games

Game-Over

Interesting article, I like nostalgia and I like to collect games especially the retro stuff but it is difficult to keep all those consoles and games in order not to mention the peripherals that come with them. I became very much a digital consumer when I bought the Wii, the original VC was and still is great, i'm surprised to hear that the games I downloaded could be made redundant. I mainly downloaded games for the PS3 too on PSN but I didn't get the same sense of ownership that I got with the Wii VC, that's why I went with the Wii U instead of a next gen Sony or Xbox. I was hoping that Wii U would be the one stop shop for retro game collecting I was looking for like a Wii and a PS3 all rolled up in one (as the original Wii had it's limitations) but it hasn't quite turned out like that. I think most people just want one console that they can put everything on like a big reliable MP3 player and have some sense of ownership of that collection, that's the dream.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st May (Europe)

Nintendo have done a good job of making a large part of there archive of games and systems available on the Wii U but it's unfair that they have quietly chosen to pretty much ignore 3rd party classics this time around. It surprises me that more people don't have an issue with this, most people must have more then one console.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st May (Europe)

Game-Over

Grumblevolcano...That could be true, maybe it is out of Nintendo's control but the Wii U is a very all things Nintendo console this time around. There just isn't the same kind of overall choice that was there with the original Wii, regardless of the lack of consoles there's no real arcade games coming either. The Virtual arcade has been forgotten, i thought with the more powerful Wii U this was something they would really expand on but they have pretty much given up on it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st May (Europe)

Game-Over

Being that the original Wii VC was like a one stop shop for retro gamers it was thought that Wii U would improve on this service and really expand the retro experience but for the most part disappointingly that just hasn't been the case. Nintendo are understandably going to put there own games and systems first but to be so rigid about it to the point that it basically shuts the door on many great games coming to the Wii U VC is frustrating. Nintendo do so many things well so hopefully this might change with the release of the NX console..

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st May (Europe)

Swords and Soldiers 2 is a nice looking game but like with so many other weeks the Wii U VC and eShop releases just don't really excite, the variety and choice just isn't there like it was with Wii VC. The lack of third party games, consoles and arcade classics just narrows the choice of games to the point of there being no real suspense at what's going to be released, it's clear now that a certain library of games is being offered and that's it.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Legacy Makes The Virtual Console Essential, But It Must Modernise

Game-Over

I think the pricing is ok there just needs to be more choice, Nintendo has a great catalogue of games but variety is the spice of life and there's a serious lack of third party games. The old Wii was almost a one stop shop for retro gamers it had so many different games and consoles, it's the main reason I bought a Wii U but unfortunately it hasn't been improved upon. The Wii U VC isn't bad but it's just not as good as I hoped it would be.

Re: Poll: Is It Time For a Fresh Alternative to the Virtual Console?

Game-Over

It's great that the Virtual Console is being discussed. I wouldn't like a subscription type service, I actually like downloading individual games as is. Wouldn't be interested in bundles either, it's kind of like buying an album when all you want is one particular song. The virtual console has failed to excite me this time around, like many I'd like to see more games from different consoles, there's a lot games that I would love to download that just aren't there for download and may never be. More variety is needed.

Although many Wii owners will probably have a copy of Punch Out ! i never got around to purchasing it on the Wii so i am actually happy, yes happy to see this coming to the Wii U and that's definitely not something you can say every week when it comes to the eShop and Virtual Console.

Re: Interview: Nintendo's Damon Baker on the eShop Team, Reaching Out to Indies and Finding Games That Matter

Game-Over

Nintendo just don't seem to want any kind of real competition with there games this time around, it's like if u want a racing game there's Mario Kart and the alternative is ''90's Arcade Racer'' a game which few know much about and has yet to be released. 90's Arcade Racer is just a simple example, Indie games can be great but are Nintendo embracing alternative indie games like 90's Arcade racer because they know it can't really compete with there own product and are they ignoring the third party games because they know they can. Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid are great games but surely there has to be some solid alternatives to these games too. It would nice to be able to play a game like Super Smash Bros and have the option to play a game like Marvel vs Capcom as well on the same system, that's what a lot of people want but will that ever happen with the Wii U. It's understandable that Wii U is going to be a mostly Nintendo machine but some third party classics would be nice along with the Indie games. Games are missing on the eShop and VC, games that should be on a next gen home console, a feed of GBA titles every week isn't sufficient. More choice is needed.

Re: Interview: Nintendo's Damon Baker on the eShop Team, Reaching Out to Indies and Finding Games That Matter

Game-Over

The Wii U VC and eShop do have some good games but it could be better and after 2 years it should be better. The Wii U is too much of a Nintendo only machine, arcade games like Dungeons and Dragons and old classics like Another World have been released but it just doesn't happen enough. We wait around for games like 90's arcade racer to released when there is already a ton of great arcade type racers out there that just aren't being released for download.

Re: Interview: Nintendo's Damon Baker on the eShop Team, Reaching Out to Indies and Finding Games That Matter

Game-Over

People buy Nintendo consoles and games because they make good products, the Wii U is no exception but the VC is lacking. Releasing handheld even mobile type games is a bit frustrating when it's a next gen home console, all of this would be tolerable if the odd arcade classic was thrown in once a month but that's not happening. Your more likely to see a mobile phone type game like Angry birds for download then say a Arcade type game like Marvel vs Capcom. Too many games are being aimed at the gamepad, there small screen type games. Like that there is nothing wrong with the gamepad or handheld games there just needs to be more of a balance.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th February (Europe)

SonsofBelichick, Joey302...Yeah every week i'm hoping that something might change but it doesn't and there's no real change in sight. The NES, SNES and GBA are solid consoles with good games but that can't be it can it , surely something else needs to be added. I get the feeling though by what's being released for download that if they do actually add another console to the VC it will probably be another handheld i'm thinking original Gameboy, it really would not surprise me. Were probably more likely to see Gameboy then Gamecube.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th February (Europe)

Game-Over

The Gamepad was a nice idea and there's nothing wrong with GBA games but there needs to be more Arcade and home console alternatives for the Wii U VC. GBA games are a cute alternative but u can't take the Wii U with you on the bus, they are handheld games made for mobile use that's why there is a 3DS. Taking the VC Arcade and other alternative consoles out of the equation and adding GBA has not improved the VC experience.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th February (Europe)

Game-Over

I like Castlevania and Ghouls and Ghosts but the Wii U VC releases seem to becoming more and more about handheld and mobile type versions of games. You don't buy a Wii U to play handheld games thats what the DS is for, i don't want the handheld version of an arcade classic i want the arcade version to play on a HD TV, that's what home consoles are supposed to be for.
