Re: Round Table: Let's Discuss Our Hopes and Dreams for Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

GalacticMario28

I always liked the concept of secret bases, but I could never really get into them; it's strange because I liked customizing my room in G/S/C. I suppose if they revamp they system, I might be able to get into it.

As one of the few people who will comment on these ORAS articles who didn't really like R/S/E, I'd like to see some notable changes to Hoenn itself. I felt that a lot of the new locations in Hoenn were interesting, but that they didn't really fit together too well as part of the same region. I'm not sure why I feel that way when I love the diversity in X & Y; it must have to do with really small details. My other major gripe with R/S/E is that the battle system felt like it was in a weird transition state. I like the concept of abilities, but I didn't like the way they mixed with the pre-physical/special split system and the stats/movesets of the available Pokémon. But since the remakes will probably have the split, I don't think that will be a problem. Just give me that and Super Training and I'll be happy in terms of new features.

Also, Katy's comment about Pansear reminds me of the time I raised a Bayleef to level 100 in Crystal because I liked Bayleef better than Meganium.

Re: Several New Pokémon Online Competitions Announced

GalacticMario28

Okay, so there will be more competitions throughout the year; that's really good news. I'll be busy during the first one, but I should have time for the others. Some of these sound really cool; I always love when a competition has a theme or some other kind of twist to it.

Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Footage Revealed

GalacticMario28

I think some people were expecting a bit too much. They said there would be footage; they never said how much footage it would be or what it would show. Until I saw the headline about watching the announcement live, I just assumed it would be a really small thing, nothing too informative, and that's pretty much what it was. We'll get more footage/information in due time.

Re: Research Firm IDC Anticipates Worldwide Wii U Price Cut in Late 2014 to 2015, Increase in Retail Downloads

GalacticMario28

I do expect digital sales to increase dramatically in the next few years, but I think it might take a little longer for them to surpass retail sales by a significant amount. Nintendo already said another price cut probably wouldn't help the Wii U, so I don't see that happening. Due to the sheer difference in audience size between Nintendo and Sony/Microsoft, I do expect the latter two to outsell the Wii U throughout the generation, but I do think that the Wii U has a chance of posting some reasonable numbers by the time the next console generation comes around, providing Nintendo plays its cards right.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 Plans Are Full of Tantalising Potential

GalacticMario28

The more I think about it, the more interested I become. This is Nintendo's chance to show that it can do something that is different but still amazing, possibly even better than a traditional live press conference. Of course, that's far from a guarantee, but I do think it's possible. I really hope Nintendo can make the most of this opportunity.

Re: Nintendo Lifts The Lid On Its Plans For E3 2014

GalacticMario28

I'm not yet sure how I feel about not having a traditional press conference. I don't think a simple Nintendo Direct would serve Nintendo very well, but the description says Nintendo will be building on the Direct format, which tells me this Digital Event will offer something more than a Direct would. It sounds risky to me, but at the same time, it definitely sounds like a Nintendo thing.

Everything else sounds great to me. It seems like Nintendo is really trying to offer a lot for E3 this year, which is exactly what it needs to do. I really hope the lack of a traditional press conference won't weigh down the rest of what Nintendo has on offer.

Re: Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" Nintendo's Position In The Entertainment Industry

GalacticMario28

As long as Nintendo continues to make video games, I have no problem with the company branching into other areas as well. Nintendo made a name for itself by doing things differently, and I see no reason why it shouldn't continue to try and do things differently. The Wii U may not be the best example of this, but it is the first system under Iwata's presidency to be struggling so much; I think I said this on a different article, but that makes the Wii U the exception, not the rule.
Also, 'can do anything' and 'will do anything' are different things. This just tells me that Nintendo will try not to limit its options, not that it will just do random things for no good reason, though I can kind of see how some people feel Nintendo has already been doing random things.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Must Take Careful Steps Into Paid DLC and Free-to-Play

GalacticMario28

I don't have a problem with Nintendo making DLC for certain games, as long as those games feel complete without the DLC and the DLC itself feels like something extra. So far, I feel Nintendo has been doing a good job of that, though this day-one-DLC for Mario Golf has me concerned. When I think of day-one-DLC, I think of content that was originally intended to be a part of the game, but was separated so the company could make more money. However, I don't think day-one-DLC necessarily has to be that way. It could be that the developers managed to design something extra in the time between the completion of the main game and the release date. There are probably other possibilities as well, but I can't think of any right now. The bottom line for me is whether I feel like I'm getting what I paid for; if I pay $40 for a game and I feel like I've gotten $40 worth of content, I have no problem with there being paid DLC available, even on day 1, as long as that DLC also makes me feel that I'm getting what I paid for.

Re: Guide: Building the Perfect Team in Pokémon X & Y

GalacticMario28

Another interesting read; even though I already knew most of this, it was nice to see all this info summarized so nicely. One thing I noticed is that there was no mention of items anywhere; the choice of held item is really important in competitive battling.

@LordJumpMad
I couldn't agree more.

Re: Poll: Have Your Say on Nintendo Direct Bonanzas and Single Game Demonstrations

GalacticMario28

I think either multi-game Directs or single-game Directs are fine, depending on the game and the content of the Direct. Everyone wanted details on Smash Bros., and that's exactly what the Direct gave us. Tomodachi Life was something that needed to be seen in action to be fully understood by people like me who knew nothing about it. Meanwhile, multi-game directs can build hype for a lot of games that may not be released for a while.

I'm not too concerned with whether Directs should be live or not, but I do prefer to see them live; it just feels more exciting that way.

I'd like to see one Direct every month-or-so. I feel that Directs a month apart are neither too close together nor too far apart.

I'd love to see both a press conference and a Direct. Nintendo can focus on getting the biggest games out there to try and attract those who haven't yet have a reason to buy a Wii U or 3DS (especially a Wii U), while also having a Direct to show off details on big games, as well as smaller games that would appeal mostly to Nintendo fans. I feel like that would be the best of both worlds.

Re: Talking Point: Horror and Metroid Could be a Perfect Fit

GalacticMario28

As someone who's not too big on the Metroid series, I wouldn't mind seeing a more horror-oriented focus for a future Metroid title. But I'd like the focus to be on a sense of helplessness; I wouldn't be too scared if I had an awesome weapon that could that could annihilate any threat with just a bit of skill and patience. I don't see Nintendo doing that, though. Having that sense of helplessness could make Samus feel weak, and enough people were upset (to put it lightly) about her being weak in Other M; I doubt Nintendo is willing to divide the fanbase again, especially given their current situation.

Re: Ubisoft and EA Lock In Their E3 Presentation Details

GalacticMario28

I don't expect EA to have any information that would benefit Nintendo, but I'm hoping Ubisoft will have show that they haven't given up on the Wii U yet. More info on Watch_Dogs would be nice, especially if they highlighted the differences in the Wii U version (although the more I think about it, the less likely that seems to me). I'll be pleased if Ubisoft shows any real support for the Wii U, even if only a little bit.

Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U

GalacticMario28

@Yorumi
I understand what you're saying, but the fact is there will always be more Mario games, just like there will always be more Zelda games and more games in every other exceedingly popular franchise. This information did come awfully soon after the release of the last Mario game, so I can kind of see why people are making a big deal about it, but that doesn't change the fact that it will be a while before we actually get the game. Hopefully Nintendo will release a lot of other games to distract people from Mario in the meantime.

@Zombie_Barioth
I understand people having higher expectations for Nintendo, but sometimes it just gets a little out of hand. For example, compare the announcement of DKC Tropical Freeze to the announcement of Rayman Legends. Both are the 5th main entries in their franchises, both are made in a similar style to their immediate predecessors (both of which came quite a few years after the 3rd entries), and both were released between 2-3 years after their predecessors. Yet Legends was hyped and DKCTF was bashed. You could argue about the quality of each game, but there was no way of knowing how good/bad they would be when they were first announced.
I agree that there are times, such as the adapter issue you mentioned, when people do defend Nintendo too much, but I think there are other times when people criticize Nintendo too much.

Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U

GalacticMario28

@Yorumi
I'll acknowledge that I read a bit too much into that statement. I only mentioned Zelda because it's popular, so it has a lot of fans who, if introduced to some less established franchises like F-Zero, could increase the size of those fanbases and make it more likely that we'll see more of those games before our grandchildren are spoon-feeding us. I agree that Nintendo doesn't need to rely almost exclusively on Mario to sell systems, but I still don't think one more game coming in a couple of years is as big of a deal as some people are making it out to be. I suppose that's all I'm trying to say.

Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U

GalacticMario28

@Yorumi
Well, I'm sorry that there are only four specific games you care to see at this point, but when you say it like that, it sounds like it has less to do with Mario and more about your personal wish list not being fulfilled. If that's the case, complaining about Mario isn't going to help you much. If you want more of those games, you'll have to convince a lot of Mario/Zelda fans that the franchises you mentioned are awesome and that they should start demanding that Nintendo make more of those games ASAP.

And Nintendo doesn't get excused for things; it's actually the other way around. Whenever Nintendo does something even remotely unoriginal or "safe," they get bashed all over the internet for it, yet when any other company makes something that is either unoriginal or just has a couple of new twists, no one complains at all.

Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U

GalacticMario28

@Yorumi
You seem to think that a new Mario game in the works means there won't be any other games in the works as well. Last I checked, the 3D Mario team works only on 3D Mario games, the Zelda team works only on Zelda games, etc. Other franchises are handled by other teams. Those who are still blown away by recent 3D Mario games will be delighted to play another one in a few years. Those who aren't can look forward to a game they're more interested in.
And since you apparently haven't noticed, there's a pretty big difference between a NSMB game and even a modern 3D Mario game; the difference is reflected in both sales and internet discussions. So it's not so much five Mario games in three years as it is two-and-a-half 2D Mario games (the half is for Luigi U, since it was primarily dlc, and even the retail version was half the price of NSMBU) and two 3D Mario games across two different platforms. When you look at it like that, it's really not that much.

Re: Nintendo Is Working On The Next Mario Game, But Can't Reveal If It's Coming To 3DS Or Wii U

GalacticMario28

"Working on" the game doesn't mean it's going to come out tomorrow, or even necessarily this year. They're probably always working on a new Mario game; the only difference here is that we got word of it early.
That said, I don't expect this to be a sequel. The 3D Mario games have always come in pairs: 64/Sunshine, Galaxy/2, 3D Land/World. It's possible that the next game could break that trend, but I think it's going to be something new, and that makes me excited. I will patiently wait to see what amazing things these guys come up with next.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii U Launch To Take Place In The Winter

GalacticMario28

I'm fine with waiting for the Wii U version; it should make for some good Christmas time gaming sessions. I don't think it would be realistic for the Wii U version to release first, seeing as it's in HD. I think there's at least a decent chance that the 3DS version will get people geared up for playing a similar game in HD later in the year. And I also think it's important to remember that the stages will be completely different between versions. That may not matter to the super competitive 'No items, Final Destination, Fox only" players, but it should matter to the less competitive players.
Also, I think there will be a fair number of "hardcore" gamers, the ones who practically live and breathe off of competitive multiplayer games, who will buy the Wii U version simply because it's in HD. But that's just my speculation.
