If Nintendo is concerned with being social, how about including Voice Chat in the few online multiplayer games they offer. While they are at it, include online multiplayer in games that would clearly lend itself to it (Star Fox Zero)
"we can expect Nintendo to up its game in marketing"
Well, NoA could hardly do worse than they have with MH4U. Doesn't look like they will be releasing the MH 3DS theme even though they announced they would. Now customer service seems to have no idea what people are talking about when we ask about it.
I think it is stupid that you can't have multiple profiles like we could in the previous version. You have to back all the way out and sign in as a different NNID user to change to a different profile. How is this smart?
The thing that caught my attention about this title isn't the cross play between Wii U and 3DS (we see that with MH3U as mentioned) but also with Android and iOS devices. There are several titles that are released on Nintendo devices, Playstation, Xbox, PC, and Smartphones. It would be great to see connective tissue exist between all of the different platforms so no matter what device you play on you are part of the community.
Perhaps VooFoo Studios is helping us take the first step into that area.
It is always said that MH is searching to match the Japanese following in the West, but gamers in the West prefer consoles. Even when we play handheld games it is at home on the sofa. Adding online play for the 3ds is smart but putting a Wii U version on the market would improve the odds of getting that Western user base.
I also agree that this is a game the Wii U needs. Nintendo should put up the money for the development. They should have plenty as they haven't spent a dime on promoting the Wii U. For a company that partnered with Nintendo it is sad to see them provide only one Monster Hunter title on the new console.
Nintendo isn't doing the Wii U any favors with the content it is releasing. DKCTF is a platformer and the Wii U already has 3. Super Mario Bros. Wii U, 3D World, and Ubisoft's Rayman Legends. 4 if you count the Luigi version of Super Mario Bros. Wii U. I suppose it is great if you are a platform lover, but I think it would have been a better move to add a different genre to the console, esp if they are serious about wanting it to sell.
This is a game that I've been looking for since launch. I find it sad that we not only don't have a release date....we don't even have the NAME!!!! If Nintendo is serious about wanting to keep the Wii U afloat, it needs to do something other than show new footage of games that we have known about and have been waiting for since the end of 2012.
@Spoony_Tech I saw this report earlier and I work in NC. Found no record of the business anywhere beyond the 3 page site that is shown in the article. That, plus usually when you see strong words like what was issued there are some details regarding who makes up this company and what they have planned.
Pretty sure this is just a bogus front some fans built to air our frustration over the lack of support the Wii U is getting. I'll be surprised to see any actual content from them, but it's just a suspecition.
I'm hoping to get in to Whitehead's room for a bit. I always enjoy his pieces and would like to do some questing with him, even though I'm HR63. Heading to the gym right now but should be back around 3:30 - 4:00 Eastern time in the US.
@DefHalan I don't even want to think about going through that again.
@Spoony_Tech I talked with their PR rep. It seems that Zen was taken by surprise that Nintendo posted about the title so they were a little caught off guard. I'm hoping it is true that the Wii U will get online multiplayer as that feature didn't make it on ZP2.
@BenAV I agree with you. I understand things need delayed sometimes, but I think some of the Indie titles will really be impacted negatively now that a big title like MH3U is finally out. It is a shame too because it would have really done a nice job of filling in that January/February game drought we had. I'll probably look into it if it goes on sale at some point.
I think Zen really missed a great opportunity. There was very little for the Wii U for months and delaying the release of ZP2 until 2 days after Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will really impact what could have been. Back in January I had over $20 ready to go for Zen tables, now I'm content to wait for them to go on sale as I will be hunting monsters for the next several months.
@DePapier It is a fun game. I like Move Like Jagger myself. I'm up to 4 stars on it, but my wife still kills me at it.
It is pretty heavy. 15GB. But I got a 1TB external connected so I'm ok.
@Luffy Nintendo does not recommend SD cards for additional storage because they have a limited number of read/write cycles. So if you use it to store a game you will end up burning it through normal use. That is why the external HD is better because you can read/write/delete to a much greater degree.
I ended up grabbing the 1TB Western Digital drive on the compatible list at Staples for $55. Works like a dream and matches my Black Wii U perfectly, blue LED and all.
I'm confident that this is happening because Zen has been feeding us the "coming soon" line for the past 3 months. We have never seen an actual date, so I'm sure this will happen next Thursday. Although since MH3U will be released 2 days before that I'm not nearly as excited about it.
@Tech101 Actually I went back and watched it. At 31:45 they started talking about Zen Pinball with the words "Also in February" and as the video of tables were shown the words "Available this month" appeared in the subtitle. I suppose if you want to be technical the subtitle will be correct because whenever it does release it will be "this month"
I think Ubisoft proved where their loyalty lies and it wasn't with their developers. So I have no problem at all if that team feels they would like to explore their options.
Honestly, I don't believe the Wii U is in a position to take on anything yet. There simply aren't enough games and if the delays we have seen at launch continue, then when we get to the 2013 holiday season, the promised games will still be promises.
@AlmightyDerek You foolishly believe things will happen just because the company responsible for making it happen and announcing they will make it happen will then make it happen.
According to the developers initial blog, I've been playing Zen Pinball on the Wii U since December.
@Svengoolie And that puts Nintendo in a bit of a bind because in last week's Nintendo Direct they said both would be available this month. I think the only solution they have is to delay both titles until Q2. Gezzz, too much Ubisoft rage still floating around.
@Bankai I agree. I really like Nintendo but they seem to be way behind the curve on some things. I wish they would recognize that something they didn't come up with works and implement it.
@cornishlee Something tells me that the masses just happen to be reloading at the same time. Once Ubisoft attempts to use their FB page for anything other than announcing they are releasing the game it will be back on...and probably worse. It is still pretty bad when Forbes pokes their head into the gaming world and says "Wow, that was a bad move" http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/02/13/even-rayman-legends-creator-is-protesting-the-games-wii-u-delay/
@Majin-Naruto So that is different than Rayman Origins vs. Rayman Legends? I'm not trying to prove any point by saying that, I'm honestly asking for purposes of educating myself.
Ok, can I ask a question about this whole MS is the cause of this? Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor Edge was released 11/18/12 as a Wii U launch title. On 2/6/13 Tecmo Koei Europe announced the game would be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 4/2/13. But how is that possible with this MS policy?
The Release Rayman petition just hit 10,000. It is funny, I don't recall seeing the petition that PS3/360 owners started that caused Ubisoft to make the decision to "give the fans what they wanted"
@Tech101 I think they fell into the Sarlacc Pit on the new Boba Fett table from Zen. There they will learn a new definition of pain and suffering as they are slowly digested over 1,000 years. Oh wait, that is happening on their FB page.
@MrWalkieTalkie They seem content to lay there and take the beating for the last 4 days. We'll just have to see how long that works for them. I'll set the over/under at 12 days.
Wow! I wonder how long Ubisoft feels they can keep silent. If they expect to make an announcement about anything other than reversing the delay on FB they will be buried in negative comments.
@GiftedGimp Oh it is coming. When it is a different story. Zen has also verified that DLC is coming for Pinball 3D for the 3DS back in September. If you were to ask Barbie about it today she will say.......It is coming. @ngamer155 Great question. I have absolutely no inside information on it but I really don't think we will see it in Feb.
@Schprocket I can't really say that I am fretting. Just disappointed. So much was made of the Wii U being sold at a loss and it becomes profitable once the first game is purchased. Seems like Nintendo would be more interested more selection out there.
@Schprocket hummm, yeah that could make you feel like your boarded a ship too early (much like I am feeling) Obviously it worked out for you as the PS3 has a great library. I don't care for FPS and games with blood and gore so that is one of the reasons I was interested in Nintendo. I really love some of the features of the PS3 and the 360 as I feel they really have a much better handle on online gaming then Nintendo does.
@Schprocket Glad you brought that up, can I ask you something? In those early days was the internet saying the PS3 was doomed and would put Sony in the grave? I'm really not trying to pick a fight here because if it is "No, everyone had faith that it would gain traction" then that means nothing has really changed and by and large there are always going to be calamity howlers. If the answer was "Yes, we heard the same thing" then I'll be happy because PS3 seemed to end up doing ok and the Wii U will too.
@SilverLightning I have 2. Looking forward to Zen Pinball being released. Honestly, if you think about at it is pretty sad. This is not a knock on ZP at all, I think it is a really well designed game and I'm anxious to get it. But I have a brand new shiny HD home console and I've been beaten down to wanting to play a virtual pinball game on it.....and I can't even do that.
