Re: A New Bayonetta 3 Report Features A Differing Account Of PlatinumGames’ VA Pay Offer

DoomPlague

@IsAmeAMario
She herself said the previous games were done in 4 sessions at 4 hours each. Other VAs have said that is common as well.

Even if Schreier's reporting isn't true (it probably is, based on the other info we have), the 4000 she mentioned before is perfectly in line with union standard pay. She isn't a big name in voice acting and shouldn't be demanding a lot, especially since it seems she hasn't been active.

Then she tried to screw over a struggling developer by calling for a boycott and then she attacked her replacement, who did nothing wrong, while claiming ownership of the character. She was wrong from the very beginning.

Re: Talking Point: Given The Voice Artist Controversy, Will You Be Boycotting Bayonetta 3?

DoomPlague

I won't boycott because I actually bothered to look into how much work this involved and how much VAs get paid. It sounds like she was offered the standard, union rate of 1000 per 4-hour-or-less session. Honestly, the author of this article is treating VA's like hollywood celebrities, who get paid high because they bring in audiences, but its rare for that to work with video games. Also, it seems like she hasn't been working in recent years which is a bit of a red flag. Lastly, its hard to appreciate her throwing Jennifer Hale under the bus. They made her an offer to return that matches is probably much more than what someone who hasn't been working can expect and she turned it down on her own accord. So...why should we boycotting again?

There's an image going around of a tweet where Kamiya said they first offered her 15k and supposedly deleted the tweet but it might be fake. If it's true and he came back and said "Okay, 4000 then" when she complained, it makes both of them look bad.

Re: Soapbox: Hurry Up And Release The Switch Pro Already, My Switch Is Dying

DoomPlague

My launch-day Switch died almost a year ago. Not sure if was natural causes or if its from some of the power problems I had in my house that weekend.

This was a couple months after getting Animal Crossing and both my brother and I lost our island because it was before the cloud backup was added to the game. On top of that, all of the repair depots were shut down and getting a new switch or a new mainboard for one was near impossible.

I actually decided that I would get into making my own repairs and invested in soldering equipment. Found out what chip needed replaced, replaced it and...nearly got it working. Won't go into details but for weeks I tried to save our island but had to give up and was able to score a new switch using brickseek.

Re: How One Man Is Fixing The SNES' Biggest Weakness

DoomPlague

@Axelay71 The Phillips version of the SNES CD add-on was planned to have a 32-bit processor (around 21 MHz) and extra RAM, which would have been nice, but obviously would have only benefited CD games. It's weird to think about what that would have been like.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's File Size Reached A Mighty 60GB During Development

DoomPlague

I would say its not as much impressive that Nintendo uses compression but more disappointing that other developers, especially on other platforms do not. I played Shadow of War recently on PC and it was 100 GB and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what could be using up all that space other than simply uncompressed assets.

Amazing how SNES games were mostly 1 to 4 megabytes while even NES styled retro games today use 50-500 or more, though thats less about compression and more about how those old consoles handled music and sprites.

Re: Random: Nintendo Shuts Down Its Anti-Piracy Website

DoomPlague

I actually used this site a few times whenever I saw legit retailers offering bootleg products (recently including woot.com). I'm fine with users getting their own emulators and roms, but selling a $40 device with 500 copyright-infringing games is something no retailer should be doing. Did it make a difference? Probably not but some retailers don't know the difference and a nice legal letter to educate them.

Re: Random: Someone's Working To Fix SNES Shooter Gradius III's Slowdown Issues

DoomPlague

The newer versions of SNES9x include an option to remove slowdown in games. You can even load it onto the SNES/NES classic edition via Retroarch as an alternative to the built-in emulator.

It causes problems with certain titles but I tried it with Castlevania IV and the difference is...jarring. Fighting the twin headed dragon was suddenly difficult.
