No doubting that the delay has harmed sales. It really should have been released for the holiday season last year when it would have fared much better. I was looking forward to this game last year but now its European release has finally come around I've really lost interest. With the 3DS out in just a month I've had to set money aside for the console and a couple of games, which means no money for Kirby. Hopefully Nintendo will take note and not delay another European release by that long again.
Its easy to be nostalgic about Rare, on the N64 they were constantly producing brilliant games. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie/ Tooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day and Blast Corps are classics and some of my favorite games on that console. The problem is Rare hasn't produced a good game in years. The sad truth is that the glory days are gone and and show no signs of returning.
I'll be getting Street Fighter IV and Pilotwings. I actually think thats a pretty decent line up, certainly compared to previous handhelds. The only game of note at the launch of the DS was Super Mario 64 DS which was a flawed port. The GBA launched with Super Mario Advance which was another port of arguably the weakest mario platformer.
I'm actually delighted that Pilotwings is a launch game. It may be one of Nintendo's lesser known series but the previous two iterations were quality games.
@Bass. The Wii version of the KoF collection is much better than the PS2 version, all those glitches and long loading times have been removed. Furthermore the games run in 60hz, the VC versions don't.
Its been a while since we got two VC games in one week. The Neo Geo games seem to be coming (relatively speaking) thick and fast at the moment, hopefully there are plenty more to come.
I didn't like the original game. The dialogue was truly awful and the incessant swearing really got on my nerves. It was just so unnecessary and really not funny and I'm no prude. For me the game itself didn't match up to House of the Dead 2 either.
Considering the general lack of good FPS games on the Wii this fills a very nice gap in the market. I have fond memories of the original and look forward to picking up the Wii game today.
Final Fight 3 is also highly recommended if you like this sort of game. I don't agree with the description of it as a 'lukewarm sequel'. Its a better game than the first imo.
I really enjoyed this game. It may have been short but it was original, a quality lacking from most games nowadays. I haven't played anything else like it before or since.
This is wonderful news. There is such a vast back catalogue of great games on those systems so there will be lots to look forward to. If some of the games get a 3D upgrade then that is even better. I already own quite a good number of GB/GBA games but I will be keeping my eye on this very closely.
Good review. I really didn't like this game, a very disappointing sequel to Starfox 64. The on the rails levels were passable but lacked something that the N64 game had whilst the on foot levels were generally awful. The characters were also completely devoid of charm. This series is in desperate need of reinvigorating.
I would suggest that Nintendo UK's marketing department has taken leave of their senses but considering they have a track record for these kind of blunders I'm really not surprised. The fact that these two are hated by a lot of the people who watch the truly awful program that they appeared on (I thankfully don't) seems to have escaped Nintendo entirely.
A good review which more or less summarises my own feelings on the game. Whilst it is not necessarily a massive step forward from Fatal Fury Special it just feels much more refined than previous editions. Definitely the best Fatal Fury game outside of the Real Bout series, which I really hope they bring to Virtual Console.
I've got Fatal Fury 3 on the Battle archives so will not be downloading it. It is a good game however and worth it for any fighting game fans who do not already have it.
I'm a big fan of cricket but I don't think it translates very well to the video game format. Few people have the patience to play through a five day test match and even twenty/20 matches take a while to play. It always seems difficult to emulate batting and bowling as well. Ashes cricket 09 on the Wii was ok, the batting was certainly quite fun but the bowling was poorly implemented and very boring. It will be interesting to see how this game turns out.
I own the PSP version which is very similar similar, although obviously lacking the touch screen elements. But based on that I agree with pretty much everything you have said. The combat lacks any kind of strategy and frequently degenerates into running around in circles. The missions were also dull and uninspiring. It is indeed a shame that the license is rarely exploited to its full potential, especially on consoles. Whilst some of the PC games can be quite good, console Star Trek games are usually not very good.
Not to concerned by Virtual console's absence this week. We've had a pretty good run to be honest. I do however hope that Kirby Superstar is released soon.
It would be nice if they ran the occasional sale on certain games like Sega did over Christmas. I think such a move would help promote the Virtual console to those who perhaps aren't happy with the prices.
Sin and Punishment is a fantastic game but it was always going to appeal to a niche audience. As has already been pointed out, better marketing and making the game more readily available (Not sold in HMV) may have improved this. Considering the type of game that it is, I think Monster Hunter has sold pretty well actually. I think it debuted in the UK top 5, which for a third party wii game was very impressive.
I'm a fan of the series but surely a much better option would be to buy the King of Fighters collection that gives you access to the vastly superior sequels, especially King of fighters 98.
I'm very interested in this. Level editors of any kind are a rare breed in console games, which is a shame as they really do add to the longevity of a game. The track editor looks particularly elaborate and detailed. I just hope the racing itself lives up to the games undoubted promise.
More third party support can only be a good thing, especially from a developer with Bungie's pedigree. That being said, nothing they make will excite me as much as a new Mario or Metroid.
I own the PSP version, its an enjoyable game this is great news. Considering its age I would be surprised if it was released as a retail title, releasing it on wiiware would appear to make more sense.
This is looking good, its release date (sandwiched between Sin and Punishment and Mario Galaxy 2) means I will not be getting it straight away.
I just hope if this does not sell well (and i'm hoping it will) that we don't get the hysteria about the Wii and mature games. The proximity of its release to other big games must be taken into account.
Very good review. I can't help but feel this was a quick cash-in. If Sega had put some more games on then this may have been tempting, but the four sonic games isn't enough to warrant a purchase in my opinion. For those who don't already own the games then it may be worth a look but there can't be many of those people around.
This is good news. I've been eagerly awaiting Rondo of Blood ever since it was OLFC rated. Its one of the only Castlevania games I haven't played. The fact that we are guaranteed virtual console games for the next four weeks is also very pleasing, Those depressing Fridays without a new Virtual console game seem to be over. For now.
I'd very happy with either situation. I liked Luigi's mansion a lot, it was a unique and charming little game. It would certainly benefit from wii controls, but an all new sequel would be even better.
This is a little disappointing. I had my fingers crossed for Final Fight 3 to be released as the previous games in that series came to Europe shortly after they did in North America. It still might but obviously we have to wait at least another week now. It would also be nice to see Mario Kart make an appearance, I just hope Nintendo are not saving it for a milestone like 350th game or something like that, because if so we could be waiting a long time.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition
Undoubtedly the must-have launch game on the 3DS. I was disappointed this wasn't released on the Wii but this more than makes up for it.

Never has the phrase 'good things come to those who wait' been more apt. Still at least were getting it.

Re: Cave Story Finally Burrows to Europe Next Friday
Great news. The lower price point means I only have to purchase one points card to buy it as well.
Re: Review: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (Wii)
EA still peddling the same old rubbish. The depressing thing is people will buy it because of the name.

One of the most under rated games on the Gamecube in my opinion. If only Mario Kart had the single player depth that this game does.
