@shonenjump86 Capcom clearly isn't supporting NSO. Why would they? They make a lot more money by getting you to buy their compilations like the "Beat 'em Up Bundle" instead.
@Axelay71 "Final Fight 3" is really good (although not up to the level of "Streets of Rage 2" or the Japanese version of "SoR3"), but the second game is pretty mediocre (albeit still preferable to the first game's butchered port just by having 2 player co-op).
@the_beaver Hey, you know that Square-Enix isn't supporting NSO, don't you? Why would they?
Plus, "Terranigma" would have to be localized for North America, which Nintendo rarely bothers doing even with their 1st and 2nd party games with these services, so a 3rd party certainly isn't going to bother to do so.
@Scposteel "Forking over the money" isn't the issue. Most 3rd parties have no reason to support NSO when it's much more profitable to make their own compilations, remasters, and remakes, even if not all of them come to the Switch. At least with the Virtual Console, they actually got paid for each sale.
@MasterGraveheart Like what? Exactly which fully Nintendo games (which doesn't include "Super Mario RPG") that aren't Japan-only releases or have other issues (like "Duck Hunt") from the NES and SNES are we still waiting for? There aren't many 1st and 2nd party games left that they can give us, while most 3rd parties aren't supporting the service (for good reasons).
@Wolf_Link Why would you ever expect licensed games like many of those you listed in the first place? The others likely either have their rights in limbo, or their companies aren't supporting NSO (and for good reason).
You know, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were once on stage with Vanilla Ice (although, they wandered on the set), so that alone isn't a reason to dismiss a beat 'em up.
@RubyCarbuncle How can you even tell the difference at that point? I can't even tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS as long as they're both rock solid.
You criticized the camera without even identifying the real problem with it. Fully manual cameras in 3D platformers suck and is alone a reason to pass on this game! Unless specifically designed around fixed camera angles, 3D games need automatic cameras (with only small manual adjustments occasionally needed)!
The Rabbids are far from the only problem with "TMNT: Smash-Up." The physics are off, it acts like it has permanent input lag, there's no online play, and there's just an overall lack of polish and nowhere near the expected amount of fan service you'd expect for such a game. It can still be a decent romp if you invite over some Turtle-loving friends, but Ubisoft really should've done much better.
I'm surprised the European art allowed Mikey to have his oh so dangerous nunchucks out.
Seriously, this is a series where one Turtle has those very pointy sais, while another Turtle has a pair of freakin' swords, yet it's the nunchucks that got censored?!
Hmm, the British actually use "Din-isty" as an alternate pronunciation according to Dictionary.com. That's a British dialect difference of which I was previously unaware.
Wait, they actually gave that "Dynasty Warriors 8" port that ridiculous meme set of subtitles?! Did they actually use a naming generator to come up with that?!
Sometimes these things would be better if they just went full visual novel and cut out the interactivity altogether beyond clicking to advance dialogue and scenes.
@-wc- Yes, the "vania" part of the name is suspect, since unlike the Metroid series only a select group of "Castlevania" games themselves are part of the genre, but they also tend to be the most popular Castlevania games and still works decently well as part of the shorthand by this point.
@Maxz No, they aren't! 2D has nothing to do with the Metroidvania genre, and there are plenty of 3D examples, including four actual Metroid games!
Metroidvanias are basically games that require non-linear exploration to unlock new abilities that allow you access to new areas in a non-exclusively predetermined order (meaning part of the order may be predetermined, but exceptions abound).
@nhSnork Obviously, the "Metroid" part of the name refers to the style of game progression, not 2D sidescrolling, and I would never consider 2D sidescrolling to be Metroid's dominant gameplay feature in the first place, especially considered the "Prime" trilogy and "Other M." It's still a pretty stupid name, but that's not the reason why.
Also, the "Ace Attorney" games are too linear to fall under this particular sub-genre. You could, however, arguably include many point-and-click adventure games as part of it, although they won't let you skip straight to the end if you already know the answers, but I consider that to be a good thing.
Video games should be described first and foremost by the actions you perform! That why they're video games and not just another kind of novel. Really, many walking simulators out there would be better off just cutting out the interactivity altogether and marketed as just visual novels sold exclusively on PC.
Anyway, whether you prefer "knowledge node" or "MetroidBrainia," that works just fine as a sub-genre of narrative games, but there's no need to divide that game genre by story genre anymore than there is to divide JRPGs by story genre. Just read the freakin' basic story summary (alongside the gameplay description, spoiler-free reviews, etc.) and see if it interests you!
@StefanN I'm 37 and a fan of the original series, and I loved it. Not every animated movie has to have a serious storyline to appeal to both kids and adults. Great movies like "Tangled" and "Wreck-It Ralph" also pull it off well despite not being as mature as "Zootopia."
@OrtadragoonX They may be a gimmick for non-FPS cross-platform games (although with some exceptions), but motion controls really shine when the gameplay is designed around them like with "Skyward Sword."
Furthermore, until the Switch dropped the sensor bar, they were by far the best way to play FPS games on consoles. Dual analog controls absolutely suck in comparison (well, they're pretty bad in the first place), and the only thing that comes close is mouse/keyboard on PC!
@mariomaster96 If Nintendo (outside than Monolith Soft) actually knew how to implement proper automatic 3D cameras, you wouldn't need to move the camera that much with traditional controls.
Well, that's just another reason why the motion controls are the superior way to play the game, since even Nintendo can't mess up a motion-controlled camera.
@Mando44646 The Wii version still has the much superior controls and gameplay even if you personally don't bother with the motion controls. That's your loss, not a problem with the port. Most everyone else who plays the Wii and/or Switch versions loves the motion controls! In fact, you shouldn't have even bothered buying this new version of the game if you weren't interested in the motion controls. They provide half the game's enjoyment in the first place.
Even discounting that reason, the Wii/Switch versions have an extra level (with an awesome boss fight against a mad Gungan), an exclusive multiplayer mode, and fixes the most annoying part of the PS3/360 version by turning the part where Starkiller pulls down a Star Destroyer into a non-interactive cutscene.
So it's actually the Wii version that is superior in almost every way, the only exceptions being the graphics and physics.
@ETK23 Yes, the Wii version is the best, but the motion controls in the Switch version must've been downgraded a little due to the lack of a sensor bar, so they're technically correct about it not being the "definitive version."
@Mando44646 Because they ported the superior version of the game, which only had Wii level graphics (and aren't butt-ugly, anyway). This is only a port, not a remaster.
The amazing motion controls and extra content of the Wii version more than make up for the relatively inferior graphics and physics.
@Serpenterror That's because in the 1987 series, Casey Jones was only a minor one-dimensional recurring character (and with no romantic connection to April) who only appeared in something like half a dozen episodes over the entire 10 season run.
@Serpenterror We already have SSFIV on the 3DS, though, so just a slightly newer version of that (and one without command shortcuts) wouldn't sell as well on the Switch as you think.
@1982decepticon Besides, it's like these people have forgotten that the first two games already have excellent remasters in a more updated graphical style, anyway.
@Clod I get the complaints about the characterization, even though it matches up just fine with the other games like "Fusion" that actually give Samus characterization, but why do some people like you complain about continuity? "Other M" has no major continuity errors compared with the other games in the series, and it even does a good job explaining a few things in "Fusion."
@Einherjar The baby Metroid is just further proof that she isn't ruthless!
In "Dread," it didn't fully show her as either ruthless nor compassionate, as like most Metroid games it just doesn't let her express herself enough for her characterization to fully shine. However, in the Metroid games that do characterize her (the end of "Metroid 2," the end of "Super," "Other M," and "Fusion"), it's quite clear that Samus is indeed quite compassionate, and she's never any weaker of a character for being so.
Besides, the scene with the Varia Suit was mistranslated. In the original Japanese version, Samus was being stubborn about not using it until Adam finally convinced her to activate it. With that in mind, the whole authorization system made complete sense from a story perspective save for the Grapple Beam.
@Kainbrightside What are you talking about?! The transitions to first person were great and completely seamless, the D-pad worked just fine due to the corridors being brilliantly designed around right angles, and the concentration move has a great risk/reward factor to it. Throw in the new quick dodge and melee moves, and "Other M" has the best gameplay in the entire series to date! Team Ninja absolutely nailed it!
Now it does have terrible dialogue, and it's too linear for some tastes (although not mine), but those are separate issues.
@malcire So now you admit that it wasn't the single-button gameplay and forced backtracking themselves that were the problems, just how those mechanics were used.

@kingbk Even before then, you could just get the excellent GBA port (or possibly the Sega CD port).

Ugh, the camera is terrible, like it's straight out of a first party Nintendo game!
Re: Negative Fan Reaction To 'Return To Monkey Island' Made Its Creator 'Sad'
@pdl1989 The remasters aren't ugly at all and at the very least massively improved the graphics over those of the original versions.
Besides, how can you much prefer the art style for this new game over the art style for the remakes when the styles are so similar?

Meanwhile, mainly due to the lack of a sensor bar, the game actually controls quite a bit better in the original Wii version.
