Re: GameStop's Internal Database Lists Multiple New SKUs For Nintendo Switch

Artie

@JHDK Don't feel too bad for them. I went in my local for the first time in AGES to see what the damage was.

The store was empty of people. The walls were covered in generic labeled used cases, the new walls were more bare than I'd ever seen.

I got one new release, SpongeBob for Switch, and a used 3DS Amiibo puck thing for my son. My "new game" was an opened. The associate used one of those horrendous clear stickers to bind the case closed (creating more sticky work for me as a collector teaching his child how to take care of things).

When I was rung up and was putting my card in the terminal, there was a $3 1 year protection plan for the Amiibo puck already sitting on my transaction. I yanked my card away and said very bluntly, " You can take that protection plan off my transaction, and I'll be filling out your survey."

Stop GameStop.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th April (Europe)

Artie

@Marshi I've been wondering the same thing since last year when they had a release drought and then put out Kirby Triple Deluxe and Mario Golf 3ds on the same day. Did it never occur to them that some people might want both and not be able to afford them both same day?

Re: Live-Action Netflix Series For The Legend of Zelda is Reportedly in Development

Artie

@jakysnakydx to be fair, compared to most other comedies season 4 of arrested didn't suck. It did not, however, live up to the genius of the original run. Also, you can't blame Netflix for botching it. Mitchell Hurwitz had complete creative control and went that way with it. Netflix was financing and distributing, that was the extent of their involvement with arrested development. Also, (for better or worse) season 5 is in the works!

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)

Artie

OMG, I'm sorry, I know this game is going to be great. I know this version is going to be awesome. But, I can't help but notice that you have listed the game's problems in various places in this review and yet given it a 10/10. What happened to journalistic integrity? A game with problems (especially that you can identify to the point of writing them out in a review) NEVER deserves a perfect score. Sorry, Martin Watts, but your reviews are now on my hesitant to view list.

I'm prepared for flames and will not reply to any abusive comments to me for my opinion. I am usually open to counter-arguments, but this is a journalistic integrity issue, so I'm not in this circumstance.

tl:dr: I have not played this remake, so I have no personal opinion to stand by, but games with problems (no matter how great they are), are not awarded perfect scores.

I promote people to comment or reply to me, however on the point I have made, I cannot be budged.

Re: Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Options for Nintendo

Artie

@Quorthon Let's make a console. Lol. Between your hyper-analytical understanding of the industry's failures, and me waxing nostalgic...magic would happen. Then and only then will Nintendo have a good environment to move into third-party development. Also, we should acquire Mega Man from his overlords at Capcom...these kids just don't appreciate dying in a burst of blue bubbles like they should.

I always appreciate a deep videogame-related discussion and I thank you for that.

Re: Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Options for Nintendo

Artie

@Quorthon

I guess I should have mentioned that I to have gotten irritated by the patching and things that seemed to show itself in abundance on the wii u alongside it's competitors, so yes even Nintendo is guilty. That doesn't mean it has to stay that way, and it wouldn't if that was the focus. If when we were first introduced to games as children, would we have dealt with the nonsense we deal with now? Would our parents have dealt with it? Granted, it wouldn't be possible back then, but still it would have soured us to the whole idea. We need to get back to what's important in this industry. Providing a quality, easy to use product right out of the box. It's sad to me that any company that tried this now would be perceived as radically changing the game, when it was just what we knew as children. It needs to happen.

Re: Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Options for Nintendo

Artie

Nintendo must not die, it must not go the route of Sega. I believe (with the rumblings of a disenfranchised gaming populace ringing throughout the halls of web forums) that if Nintendo took a couple of bold steps into some innovative, non-casual gaming tech while keeping true to their stance on withered technology, they could win a lot of people back. We are seeing trickles of them already. Micro-transactions, pieced-out dlc fests, broken launches, and always-online is ruining our fun.

Remember that? Fun right out of the box? It's getting fuzzy to me, but I still remember.

Re: Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Options for Nintendo

Artie

@Quorthon

It is a bit ambitious, but I still stand by it and believe that it is the best COA for the company to stay relevant. I love Nintendo and look forward to my child growing up in a world with their unique, creative, family-friendly and high quality products. I just can't imagine a world without them or where they have fallen out of the console game. I don't want to either. I don't want my kid having to live in a Sony/Microsoft dominated home console world. Not that I don't love playstation, FAR FROM IT! I just view my ps4, ps3, and vita as my grown-up games.

Re: Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Options for Nintendo

Artie

@Csaw How about a console that uses a handheld (a more vita-like gamepad if you will) as it's controller with wii u pro controller support as well (drop the wii remotes and all those crazy attachments).

Games would work like this. Console games of higher quality would remain tethered to the living room, but playable off-tv (pretty much just like wii u or vita/ps4 remote play). The portable/controller would have a slot for less graphically powerful portable games with the ability to beam that content to your tv at leisure. Two different sets of software still, more options for where you play. Unify the accounts with a NNID and adopt a cross-buy mentality for virtual console titles and select titles (Indies, download only software, etc.) that are capable of running on either system, not unlike the playstation environment.

This would allow for Nintendo to offer 3 skus on the market at launch as well. A standalone console with pro controller for $300 (with the option of linking a portable later if they purchase it), a standalone portable (with the option to link to the console later if they purchase it) for $200, and a combo bundle (value for parents) with console, pro controller, and portable with a multiplayer-ready game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros. for $400-$450.

With separate catalogs of games there would be no self-cannibalizing of market, only consumer options and value.

I realize that's a crazy wall of text, but I hope the idea translates.

Re: Nintendo Goes Download-Only With The 2014 Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

Artie

To the guy earlier who posted that Club Nintendo should be an afterthought to the games you buy, I agree with you. Joining it should be an afterthought, it was for me anyways (I can't wait to play Super Mario Galaxy! What is this? A code? Cool!). However, it becomes more than an afterthought when you have been doing it for years knowing that some UNIQUE reward will be your payment for contributing to Nintendo's market research surveys. It becomes part of your life that like any other part of life is capable of letting you down.

Here's the process you get into and it's time consuming. Get game, register game with clubnintendo, fill out survey, get points, fill out 2nd survey one week later, get more points, maybe get platinum status, get something unique for helping Nintendo by filling out surveys, repeat next year.

It's not entitlement, it's genuine disappointment from dashed expectations based on multiple years of precedent. drops mike

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Another Wii U Retail Drought

Artie

Am I the only one tired of seeing game droughts only to have two major titles release on the same day? In the US, Mario Golf and Kirby Triple Deluxe on May 2...and 3ds titles no less. My fiancée and I both have 3ds' and want both of these, but now have to choose because I can't drop $160 plus tax on 2 copies of 2 games on the same day. Seriously, what's that about? How is that smart?

Re: Iwata And Miyamoto Both Take Pay Cuts In Response To Nintendo's Poor Financial Results

Artie

@Sockymon Would you rather see them ruin the lives of their lesser paid staff and run the company into the ground like any western executive? You respond like they are crying over it, they aren't. They are making a gesture of faith that says my choices led to these problems, I'll shoulder the burden of blame. If this were a western developer whole teams would be laid off before an executive took a paycut. They would drive the company bankrupt, lay everyone off and take what was left as a bonus, dissolve the company and move on to destroy another company in five to ten years.

Re: Video: Persona Q Website Unveils Two More Characters

Artie

Yes, let's all complain that the first Persona game to come to a Nintendo console (exclusive no less) is ugly when we should all know 2D images of 3DS games aren't an accurate representation. Nintendo-made games don't look great in 2D screens either. Let's bash a good thing.

Re: Netflix Wii U App Update Goes Live

Artie

Since the update, shows will not resume if I stop them instead starting over. When I first load it, it hangs for a minute or so. Twice now it has put me on the wrong episode from where I was watching. When I try to pause or change episode during play (which i've been having to do because of the reasons above) it hangs for 20-30 seconds before acting. And if you try to tap it again while hung, when it responds it takes all of those taps a and executes all of them in quick succession, moving through multiple menus and usually landing on and playing something else entirely.

Re: 3DS System Update 7.1.0-15 is Available Now

Artie

@Frapp Yes! This times a million! Was just ranting about this in another post. Thing is, I don't believe it will happen with current hardware. We import aficionados need to let Nintendo know that region-free should be a given in an increasingly culturally blended society. They still make money when someone imports new software.

Re: Senran Kagura Burst Pre-Order Bonuses Announced For Europe

Artie

I am so upset by this news. As a U.S. gamer I had no choice but to d/l. Liked the game so much, I imported a Japanese copy of it's spinoff game, Shinovi Versus for my REGION-FREE playstation vita. Regions are a thing of the past as more of us are multi-cultural or at least not put off by a language barrier. Companies still make money when importers buy new games so what this practice of region-locking has taught me is that it's about control...and it makes me mad. Wouldn't it cost a company more money to produce different region hardware rather than one machine?

Re: La-Mulana 2 Emerges Through a Kickstarter Campaign

Artie

I still don't understand why enjoy up or another company hasn't brought the original to anything other than pc and wiiware. But we have a million copies of cave story on everything. La Mulana is one of the best games made since the Super Nintendo.
