@CriticalHit everything I’ve been reading at resetera has suggested it will be more powerful than the steamdeck without DLSS. Nobody will know until they show some games though.
@Max_the_German oh I know and always acknowledged Yoshi Island to be part of the mainline Mario series. There are people who don’t and I remember big debates about it. My confirmation from this article did not come from it appearing on the poster, it came from the description stating how originally Nintendo was looking to make it a spin off but decided otherwise.
@Greatluigi Origins (Baten Kaitos II) is my second favorite rpg of all-time (and I have played a ton of rpgs). That game is absolutely a masterpiece with one of the greatest battle systems ever created. I’m no big on card based systems but my god, the combos you can do in this game are amazing. Anyone who is an rpg fan should want to play this game.
Hold the heck up! Gameboy/GBA is not the biggest news here if I'm reading the graphic correct. Does that say freaking Random Matchmaking!!!! Will they finally allows us to play random people online for these classic games! Please tell me that is true!
Ryu Hayabusa and Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon deserves a spot in Smash Brothers. Ryu has been an icon since the 80s and Double Dragon was HUGE in the 80s and 90s. HUGE!
@Swizze Cross Tag is the best traditional fighting game on the system! Love that game. Only problem is the online community is very small. If you are looking for a bigger community, Mortal Kombat 11 and Dragonballz Fighters is pretty good. Dragon balls Figthers is on sale right now.
I’m just going to take it since the game didn’t sale all that well, that’s why it is so low on the list because Bateman Kaitos Orgins is a top 10 game and one of the greatest RPGs of all time. To me, it was by far the best RPG on the GameCube and in that era. Also, F-Zero GX not in the top 10 😯. Again, got to be due to sales. Four big games that are missing in this are NBA Street 2 (or 1), NFL Street, Def Jam Vendetta, and Capcom vs SNK 2!!!!
To those of you who are saying you never heard of or played any game Terry has been in, guess what!!! You can download a bunch of games on the Switch right now! King of Fighters 98, King of Fighters 2000, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Real Bout Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 3 are all on the Switch and are some of the best fighting games ever made!
It is a competitive fighting game where it is easy to play but hard to master. I can play SSB (along with any fighting game I like) forever because it hits that competitive nerve and it is very fun to play. If you don't have the patience or drive to continue to get better and find competitive that pushes you beyond your limits, I can see how the appeal is lost.
Valkyrie Chronicles 4 (everyone remotely interested in strategy should get that) Labyrinth of Refrain, and Dragonball Fighterz are my absolute main titles. VC4 was my most anticipated of the year before Civilizations 6 was announced!
@Nater Double Dragon NES is coming on the Switch Online next month. If you are looking for new Double Dragon, the lastest one is already available on the eshop right now.
@DarthMarth My god, that didn't even register to me. This is a HUGE feature for the Civ series!!! That is brilliant! All you really need is one switch to past around during turns any time, anywhere. This game will consume me completely.
@Mamabear My two favorite PC centric franchises of all time are Age of Empires (especially 2) and Civilizations. I've been playing both since the beginning. You can think of Civilizations as like a turn base Age of Empires. You build your town(cities), gather and manage resources, research technology, and win multiple ways (economic, military, technology). However, with Civ, you are playing on a world scale dealing with a lot more on the management and diplomacy side. I think you would really love Civilizations since you love AoE.
I would not go by UK sales in regards of the Switch getting 3rd party support in the future. We have seen throughout the year games selling terrible in the UK but were successful worldwide. Dragonball Xenoverse 2 is a real good example (as well as NBA 2K). Over here in the US, both Doom and Skyrim are in the top 5 best sellers category on the eshop. Since US is a much bigger market and MUCH more Nintendo friendly, I’m certain both game are doing real good.
@KirbyTheVampire Having to pay for the app is a good point only if you have to pay after you subscribe. I'm sure the app will be available for free after you subscribe to the service. If you subscribe and still have to pay for the app, then that'll confirm that the same features that are in the app will be in the Switch itself. As for the VC, they have in parenthesis "newly added online play" right after they mention NES and SNES games. They are definitely talking about the games since it would be redundant to mention needing to subscribe and add online play in a section that talks about what you will be getting when you subscribe.
You know, first off, I'm about 100% certain you will be able to use a headset and join lobbies from the Switch. This is a companion app. Now with that out the way, to me this is a brilliant idea. Most everyone has a phone now, and of course playing online you will be by a wireless router. With a phone, you instantly have a headset that you can use for online play without the need to go out and by one. So for those that don't have the money or are to cheap to buy a headset for the Switch, no problem, you already have a headset with your phone. The app itself I'm about certain would work like the Facebook Messenger. You can contact people in your friend list to call, may be able to join in on voice conversations (group chats), and text through the app. As I said though, I'm certain you will be able to do so on the Switch itself as well. It is a great idea to me. Having said all that, the BIGGEST news no one is talking about (and it is blatantly stated in that feature list), VC games will have online play now!!!! That's a megaton for me at least.
@Adamant, yeah, you are right, this is the sequel isn't it lol. Good, because it's much better than the first version, although we already have Super Street Fighter II, Fighter's History Dynamite has supers
Wasn't WW7 one of the bigger Neo Geo games (file size wise)? It was one of it's later releases. Man, I love how the fighters are being supported, especially Fatal Fury. Hopefully we can get other genres rolling also (this is coming from a huge fighter fan lol). Neo Geo has so much awesome stuff.
Bass, I would definitely get this game man. It's the best in the original Fatal Fury series. I absolutely cannot wait for this game. Since the Neo Geo was announced for the VC, I've been waiting for this game to come out. From FF3 all the way to Garou, it's nothing but fighting heaven.
Your taste are different. Personally for me, Rubik's is my second favorite WW game behind Swords and Soldiers (and I have a bunch of WW games). Rubik's is a great game, but it's just not something you like, in which is understandable since everyone is not going to like the same thing. For instance, I don't like those games trying to be like movies coming out on the 360/PS3, (and I have both systems).
@Post 20
I agree, those Heavy Rain, Mass Effect 2 and FFXIII reviews are way to high. Especially what I've played of Heavy Rain, it's terrible as a game and only decent as a interactive movie.
Oh.My.God. This is OUTSTANDING news for me. Do you know how long I've been searching for this game? Around a decade and a half. I saw this game in an old EGM magazine in the early 90s and I've wanted it every since
Hey everyone, the Street Fighter 2 that's in question is definitely the arcade version. The arcade version of Street Fighter 2 was the only one called Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition. The TG16 and Genesis versions were called Street Fighter 2: "Special" Champion Edition. So rejoice, Capcom is officially supporting VCA!!!!!
MANIAC MANSION! Zombies Ate My Neighbors Ghoul Patrol Indiana Jones Trilogy PodRacer Battle of Naboo Rogue Squadron Big Sky Troopers Indiana Jones and the Inferno Machine Metal Warriors (QuickFingers has me at gun point. I had to list it )
Later games used the memory card to get rid of that in the AES versions. I mean you still ran out of credits, but you are able to save to the memory card and start from where you left. Metal Slugs and SS2 does this (I believe Ninja Commando as well). The MVS versions all have credit.
Hey, I agree that Neo Geo moreso than other systems need button mapping, because it's almost impossible to press 2 buttons at the same time in which most of SNK fighters require with any of the controllers Neo Geo support. It is specialized and if you are not interested in that then it's find.
Just to let you know, you would rather have the AES versions instead of the MVS version of Neo Geo games. AES games are the exact same as the MVS games, however, they generally have more features and options than the MVS version. In reality, the Neo Geo CD versions are the ones you want since those had more options and generally more characters and modes than both the AES and MVS versions.
The compilation discs are not superior in emulation quality. I have the Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters collections on the Wii and they both have little issues (especially sound) that the VC versions don't have. Having said that, I do agree, SNK needs to do one or the other. If they are going to give us collections, please add online play like you promised SNK.
Well, the Neo Geo, more so than any other system other than VCA, needs online play. These are arcade games that lack in single player content because they were made for the arcades. Most of all Neo Geo games have a focus on multiplayer; if people don't have anyone to play with, they will more than likely skip these titles, no matter how great the game is. (How in the world did Samurai Shodown make the top 20 but not Samurai Shodown 2?). I mean it's not hard to do, the technology is already out there (GGPO, Gametap emulator, etc) it's just a matter of if they are willing to do what it takes to get them more money. (Having said that, that would be all up to Nintendo with the online play).
Also, D4 would be wise to listen to the Europeans who are having emulation issues and also give use a way to configure out buttons because most of SNK fighters require to button presses at the same time, not easy to do with the face buttons. (Thankfully, I have the Neo Geo arcade stick )
You know Sean, you have a point, it is a zip file, forgot all about that. I can't remember, what was the biggest cart? 700Mb? Well, regardless of anything though, I'm sure with the compression techniques we have now, those games can get below the 40MB limit (assuming Nintendo sticks with that limit).
So Corbie, is it confirmed that D4 is still supporting the VC? I ask because I saw in the forums that either you or someone else (can't remember) said that since the Neo Geo wasn't selling so well, we might not see anymore Neo Geo games
Size is not an issue because the biggest game was (if I remember correctly, around 35MB. Garou, SS5, and Last Blade (especially Last Blade) are below 40MB. So, having said that:
Last Blade 1 and 2 (my favorite 2D fighters of all time) King of Fighters 99-2000 and 2003 Matrimelee Rage of the Dragon Kizuna Ninja Masters Double Dragon Super DodgeBall Viewpoint Thrash Rally Spin Masters Sengoku 1-3 Shock Trooper Metal Slug X and 3 Fatal Fury 3, Real Bout 1 and 2, Garou Art of Fighting 3 World Heroes Perfect Blazing Star Pulstar Street Hoops
Has anyone written Nintendo a email asking them why we haven't got VC games in two weeks. Pointless to complain among each other. We as fans (journalist that needs to actually do their jobs) need to get to the bottom of it.
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Street Fighter Alpha 1-3 All Street Fighter IIIs Rival Schools Street Fighter EX Cadiallacs and Dinosaurs All Mega Mans Saturday Night Slammasters 1 and 2 All Final Fights You know what Capcom, just give me everything you can offer

Concerning Tekken, you are right, or at least you were right. After Tekken 5 released, the contract between Sony and Namco came to an end, so now Tekkens are now allowed to be released on other consoles (Tekken 6 BR coming to the 360).
@Corbie
Yeah, I don't think games released during last gen would be avalible on the VCA. However, everything prior to last gen is fair game. The file sizes for arcade games released during that time aren't all that big (you would be surprised just how small Soul Calibur and Tekken Tag Tournament is, among other games like Street Fighter 3 and Marvel vs Capcom). I'm certain emulating the games wouldn't be an issue either. Namco already showed they are releasing games that came out in the 90s with Cyber Sled, I'm sure they are going to go all the way up to the System 12 arcade board with their releases.
I don't know if you were talking about my list or the list in the article, but for me, my excuse for not putting in TMNT is I never played it lol.
Tekken 3 is the greatest fighting game ever made in my opinion. Great cast of characters, bone crunching moves that you really feel (unlike most other fighters) the greatest OST in any fighting game people (King's sky arena music is by far my favorite), and an outstanding fighting system. God I love that series.
Man, y'all just don't know how excited I am for the Arcade to finally come to the VC. It was, by far, my most request thing for the VC. Now that it's here, I will be putting so much money into it it'll be just completely ridiculous. Here is my top 10 list (and I'm certain all of these games have a great chance of coming out):
1. Tekken 3 (one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. File size is very small for the arcade game) 2. Tekken Tag Tournament 3. Tekken 2 4. Virtua Fighter 3 5. Street Fighter Alpha 3 6. Darkstalkers 7. Guerilla Wars 8. Fighting Vipers 9. San Francisco Rush 10. Soul Edge

Concerning Tekken, you are right, or at least you were right. After Tekken 5 released, the contract between Sony and Namco came to an end, so now Tekkens are now allowed to be released on other consoles (Tekken 6 BR coming to the 360).
@Corbie

File size is very small for the arcade game)
2. Tekken Tag Tournament
3. Tekken 2
4. Virtua Fighter 3
5. Street Fighter Alpha 3
6. Darkstalkers
7. Guerilla Wars
8. Fighting Vipers
9. San Francisco Rush
10. Soul Edge
