@DiscoDriver43 I was referring to the 2nd class of the Hall of Fame, not having the game never get inducted.
Grand Theft Auto 3 isn't old enough in my view. I think Computer, Arcade, game console, and hand held games from the 20th century needs to be focused on the first 4 classes at least. The best way to put it is the fact Angry birds was a finalist last year proves there is problems of allowing recent games to be nominees along with World of Warcraft being inducted last year.
I am one of the people who nominated games for this class. I looked the late 1970's to 1991 for arcade games and game console games. My only mistake was forgetting about the Hall of Fame and missed on Nominating some games. I picked that era because of a lot of foundations in game genres got their start their or being a huge game icon.
I honestly think Grand Theft Auto 3 didn't belong in the 2nd class. 4 of the games I nominated I felt needed to get in before that. Final Fantasy, Dragon quest and Donkey Kong, and Street Fighter 2 needed to be inducted before Grand Theft Auto 3.
I think Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest should be self explanatory due to their importance in JRPGS along with Final Fantasy being the game that Saved Squaresoft. Donkey Kong was very important in terms of the platform genre and I argue its the most important game Nintendo made in its history. The fact is Donkey Kong was so successful that it played a big role on why Nintendo decided to develop its first ever game console aka the NES. Street Fighter 2 is responsible for the Head to Head fighting games and Making the arcade more popular in the early 1990's.
I also nominated Street Fighter 2, Adventure,Donkey Kong, Galaga, Defender, Asteroids, Robotron 2084, Pitfall!, and Ms. Pac-Man.
Adventure actually is a very important game in video game history since it actually was the precursor to Legend of Zelda.
I picked Defender for many reasons including the fact this game actually was the first horizontally scrolling game, and how the game used a map in gameplay as example.
Before some criticizes me for Pitfall!, that game also was one the very important games for the Platform genre since it had a lot of the features that you expect out of a scrolling Platform game.
Robotron was a very important game in terms of it making the twin controller scheme very popular.
@sillygostly Space Invaders is more important that you make it. I am one of many people that nominated that game. I did for multiple reasons.
Remember NES wasn't the first game console of all time and the Atari 2600 is the first successful game console.
The game had a huge impact in Japan in the arcades also. Space Invaders had a big impact on the sales of the Atari 2600. Space Invaders was the first Atari 2600 game to sell over a million copies and actually caused the sales of the Atari 2600 to quadrupled. If it wasn't for Space Invaders, the Atari 2600 wouldn't been as big as it was for sales.
@FierceRagnar Sonic is more important than you make. You are making the mistake of looking at it as whole series, instead of what the Original Sonic did.
The original Sonic was the was reason the Sega Genesis was in the lead over the SNES for a time and was why the Sega Genesis had a lot of units sold. While Altered Beast was the first pack-in, Sega knew it needed to replace it from a sale standpoint.
I was a teenager in 1991 and I can tell you that the first was huge at the time. Sega really marketed Sonic back in 1991 in their campaign against the SNES.
I know the first Sonic wasn't as good as Sonic 2, but it shouldn't discount what Sonic 1 did for the Sega Genesis.
@Captain_Gonru The Colecovision Flashback doesn't take carts.
I am saying that because there is a person on Atariage that actually knows info about the Intellivision and Colecovision Flashbacks. The person said it doesn't take carts and doesn't sd Slots.
@Crazybrain1 That is not only problem if Nintendoland is in Florida with Walt Disney World being though. . Florida is a hot bed of theme parks outside of Walt Disney World. Universal, and Sea World are located in Orlando. Busch Gardens and Legoland are down in Florida also.
Universal is getting more popular in Florida when looking at Islands of Adventure Attendance. Universal also isn't afraid of spending more money in Florida with the amount of projects their doing including Harry Potter 2.0
The Atari 5200 died during the crash. Warner announced the 7800 to replace the 5200 basically.
The Atari 7800 in North America had 3.77 units sold and that information was found by Curt Vendel. That meant the 7800 did better than originally thought. The problem with the 7800 through multiple things.
The first thing was while the 7800 had a test market in 1984, it didn't go National before 1986. It was caused by the transaction by Jack Tramiel because GCC actually owned the 7800, not Warner. Warner hired GCC to develop the 7800 and to develop games for the system. Jack had to pay GCC for the games and the system itself and that didn't happen in 1984, but in May of 1985. That means the transaction of the Home consumers division of Atari from Warner to Tramiel hurt the 7800 and put their game library behind the 8 ball. Atari 7800 had games developed in 1984, but the sale froze programing on whatever 7800 games that weren't completed by July of 1984. That meant games like Galaga became dated when they came out nationally. In 1986 and 1987, Atari couldn't release games that were similar to the nes because of frozen development of the 7800 game library.
The 2nd problem was Atari under Jack Tramiel froze projects and streamlined staff and operations. He basically closed down video game division of Atari. That meant That meant Atari had no in house programmers to develop games for game consoles and used contractors instead. Jack also brought in a new Management team after he became owner of Atari. The quality of 7800 games did suffer as a result such as Karateka.
That changed when Jack bought the rights to the 7800 and Jack had to find someone to lead the newly formed video game division after that. It took them from May of 1985 to Nov. of 1985 to find a person to lead the video game division of Atari. That meant it slowed down the 7800 even more.
The third issue was Nintendo was already getting a Monopoly on 3rd parties by the time Atari Corp. released the 7800 in January of 1986. That was same that hurt the Sega Master System in North America.
@KingMike The Atari that went out of business was in 1996 was only part of the original Atari. The original Atari was bought by Jack Tramiel in 1984, but not all divisions of it. Jack Tramiel only bought the Atari Consumer division of Atari Inc., not arcade division of Atari. inc.
Not having the arcade division didn't help the 7800 at time that Atari Games Corp released games such as Marble Madness, Paperboy, Gauntlet, Toobin', and Super Sprint as examples. The only way Atari corp. can have newer arcade games such as Super Sprint was by them having a contract with Atari Games Corp.
Atari Games Corp was alive through 2003 with them being under Midway from 1996 to 2003.
It is good thing that Infrogames is selling of the Atari section. Infrogrames was masquerading as Atari and was doing stuff like shutting down Atari websites by their legal department with Kirsten Keller sending the letters.
Infrogames was out of control from legal standpoint. They sent a letter to homebrew author for developing Boulderdash for the Atari 2600 and that homebrew game was almost canceled because of them. The thing was Boulder Dash was not owned by Infrogrames, but by First Star software
The thing also was First Star Software gave the okay already to develop the game as long as the people pay the company first for developing the game. That basically mention Infrogames had no basis for sending a letter about the game.
I am a person that actually like play the same game I already beaten. I don't think it's right that game companies for consumers like me from trying to beat the same again without it me buying another copy.
The other problem I have with that is my younger brother and I share the same game.
I have multiple Sonic memories with the Sega Genesis Sonic games standing out the most to most back when I was a middle School and High School student with my owning all the Sega Genesis Sonic games from 1992 to 1996. Sonic came out at time that I was accustomed to be playing Atari 2600 & 7800 games with me not playing a lot of Nes games due to the fact I didn't own Nes yet at the time. Here is a list of my favorite Sonic moments.
1.) The Sonic Memory that stood out the most to me was back in 1991. Sonic was the first Genesis game I ever played and I played at Target and my younger brother did also. It was different for us compared to the small amount of times we played Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 3 at other people's houses since we didn't own Nes yet at the time. Sonic 1 was different to my younger brother and I in terms of how fast the game, but was fun at the same. Sonic 1 was one of the reasons I got a Sega Genesis for Christmas in 1992. It turned out the Sega Genesis was the right system for me at the time because of my video game back ground on game consoles at the time considering what type of genres I was into at the time.
2.) My younger brother and I had a competition of going to the highest level as possible without using game genie when we first got the Sega Genesis for Christmas in 1992.
3.) The first time I heard some the music from the Sonic games on the Sega Genesis. Some of the music I heard from the Sega Genesis Sonic series is among my list of favorite video game music tunes including lava reef zone stage 1.
4.) My younger brother and I playing 2 player mode in Sonic 2&3. It went to the final stage for the 2 play mode most of the time we played against each other.
I am very familiar with Game Gear. Shining Force: Sword of Hajya is one of my favorite games for Game Gear. I first tried Game Gear out as a teenager in 1991 in a store and I later got it as a Christmas gift in 2007 or 2008.
The problem with Game Gear was the screen itself. I can be difficult to see stuff on Game Gear's screen due to blurriness.
The TG-16 coming to the 3DS shouldn't be shock because the Tg-16 games are available for iphone, IPod, and IPod Touch. The other reason is Turbo Express plays Hu Cards.

I think the Dragon Quest games will be starting to be released soon. I really don't view them as big deal for me since I own the Nes copies of the first 4 besides Gameboy Color versions of the first 3 Dragon Quest games and the DS version of Dragon Quest 4.

Those three companies translated Telenet Japan games for North America releases from 1990 to 1993
Working Designs and Nec translated Telenet Japan titles for the Turbo CD.
Renovation Products translated and published Telenet Japan games for the Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and a small amount of Telenet Japan titles for the Snes. Renovation Products published Sega Genesis Titles and Sega CD titles from 1990 to 1993. Renovation was one of the first 3rd party publishers for the Sega Genesis. Renovation only started to release games for the Snes in 1993, their final year of existence before Sega bought them and folded them.
I don't think the vc had its last release of Street Fighter 2. The Sms and the C64 has Street Fighter 2 in their game libraries being the VCA versions not being released yet.
I didn't expect Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures to be released today. I know that Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures for the Snes was given good reviews by Game Informer review back in the day and yes, Game Informer has been around for a very long time.
The other 2 Sms titles not released on the vc or on a coming soon list is Alex Kidd: BMX Trial (Japan Only), and Alex Kidd: High-Tech World (not released in Japan since the original version of the game is called Anmitsu Hime in Japan).
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World is better than Alex Kidd: High-Tech World. Alex Kidd: High-Tech World is one of the worst Sms games I ever played.
The VCA version of Ninja Gaiden isn't as good as the Nes version.
I used to play the Arcade version of Ninja Gaiden in arcades in the early 90's.
It isn't a great a great beat'em up compare to Double Dragon, and Final Fight- Arcade version. This version of Ninja Gaiden was released on the Atari Lynx.
Ultima 4, Miracle Warriors and Y's 1 are the Sms games that I know for sure that have a save feature besides the games you mentioned. I think King's Quest has a save feature, but I have to check in my sms collection first.
R-type for the Sms is a pretty good version of the game. I own the Sms version for several years before owning the tg-16 version.
I am big fan of the Sms and I own lot of Sms cartridges, but the Sega Master version of R-type shouldn't be released since the same game was already released on a different vc system.
I think a sms release like Power Strike or Psycho Fox would be a better as vc release than R-type or Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.
I have a bad feeling that the next Sms vc release will be Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.
Battle Out Run (SMS) Bubble Bobble (SMS) Master of Darkness (SMS) The New Newzealand Story(SMS) Ninja Gaiden (SMS) Power Strike 2 (SMS) Renegade (SMS) Congo Bongo (VCA) Zaxxon (VCA) Super Zaxxon (VCA) Space Fury (VCA)
It is great to see 2 good Wiiware releases this week.
Clayfighter isn't a great fighting game in the genesis imo. I have to say is better than Virtua Fighter 2. Clayfighter is in my bottom 5 head to head fighting games on the Sega Genesis.
I never had a chance to play Terranigma. I never heard the game before 1998 or 1999.
I am familiar with the Gaia series though. Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia are excellent games. I heard of first two Gaia games for several years before I got a Snes in 2000.
I didn't expect Uncharted Waters: New Horizons to be release today. It didn't affect me any way. I wasn't looking at Majora's Mask to download any way.
I am guessing Majora's Mask is being hold back for the North America's 300 vc game.
If there is a N64 game release this month, It will be Super Smash Bros. I am guessing that since the game was release in late April.
I was hoping that we would be getting more than 1 vc game this week since Super Punch!! was announced last week. At least it is a very good game.
I'm guessing that we will getting Smash Bros. for the vc's 300th game. I'm figuring that we might get it in late April, depending on how vc games will be released in a week.

Turbo Express didn't play CD games.

Super Mario Kart was considered a special game when it first came out. All though I didn't own a Snes at the time, the game was big deal at the time.

Re: Nintendo Download: Bikes, Frogs, Dragons, Bombs, Plankton and Cybernoids (US)
I don't think North America is done with C64 vc releases this month. I also expect another VCA game release this month.
Re: Review: Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Virtual Console / Master System)
@castlehominid99
Ultima 4, Miracle Warriors and Y's 1 are the Sms games that I know for sure that have a save feature besides the games you mentioned. I think King's Quest has a save feature, but I have to check in my sms collection first.
Re: Nintendo Download: Art, Beasts, Cars, Paddles and Wars (US)
I might consider getting Arkanoid Plus! .
Re: R-Type
The Sms version of R-type isn't as tough as the tg-16 version and is a fun game.
The game it self, has no reason to the be the vc though like Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap will be once it gets released.
Re: Nintendo Download: R-Type, Cubes, Monkey Island, Poker and Cookery (EU)
R-type for the Sms is a pretty good version of the game. I own the Sms version for several years before owning the tg-16 version.
I am big fan of the Sms and I own lot of Sms cartridges, but the Sega Master version of R-type shouldn't be released since the same game was already released on a different vc system.
I think a sms release like Power Strike or Psycho Fox would be a better as vc release than R-type or Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.
I have a bad feeling that the next Sms vc release will be Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.
Re: Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap
Three Wonder Boy Games were released in the Arcades.
They are the following: Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy - Monster Land, and Wonder Boy III - Monster Lair
Re: Nintendo Download: Mechas, Sexy Poker, Football and Art (US)
Sexy Poker should be in the top 20 for the most downloaded wiiware game every week in North America like Pong Toss (aka Beer Pong) was.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28-29 July 2009 (Japan)
The arcade version of Nina Gaiden is much different than the Nes version. The arcade version is a beat'em up.
I remembered playing Ninja Gaiden in a arcade in the early 1990's. I recalled liking it a lot.
I it on the Atari Lynx. It is a tough but fun game imo.
Re: What Capcom games do you want to see on the Virtual Console?
Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis/Megadrive)

Battle Out Run (SMS)
Bubble Bobble (SMS)
Master of Darkness (SMS)
The New Newzealand Story(SMS)
Ninja Gaiden (SMS)
Power Strike 2 (SMS)
Renegade (SMS)
Congo Bongo (VCA)
Zaxxon (VCA)
Super Zaxxon (VCA)
Space Fury (VCA)
Re: Nintendo Download: Popstars, WiiWare Remakes and Clay Fighting (US)
It is great to see 2 good Wiiware releases this week.
Clayfighter isn't a great fighting game in the genesis imo. I have to say is better than Virtua Fighter 2. Clayfighter is in my bottom 5 head to head fighting games on the Sega Genesis.
Re: Nintendo Download: Clocks, Calculators, Penguins and Towers (US)
I already have a version of Tower Toppler.
The DSI download is lame. It might be the lamest 2 new items to be available to downloaded.
Who in their right mind would download a clock and a calculator for 200 points each?
The only thing worse than this is if Shaq-FU and Hydlide get release on the same day for the vc.
Re: Nintendo Download: Clubhouse Games, Paper Planes, Platforms and Warring States (US)
I wouldn't be shocked if we get Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Grey Wolf within a month's time on the vc.
Re: Nintendo Download: Dr. Mario, Wonder Boy, More Magic Tricks and Crystal Defenders
Hopefully, this is the last Wonder Boy game release for a couple months at least in North America.
This is not the last Wonder Boy game making it to the VC for North America.
The following Wonder Boys the vc didn't get yet on the following vc systems or vc arcade:
Wonder Boy 3: Dragon's Trap- Sms
Wonder Boy In Monster World -Sms Version (may not get since it was not release in Japan back in the day)
Wonder Boy - Arcade version & C64 Version (may or may not get released)
Wonder Boy - Monster Land - Arcade &c64 version (may or may not get released)
Wonder Boy III - Monster Lair - Arcade version (may or may not get)
Monster World IV - Genesis (may not get release in North America, since the game needs to be translated)
Re: Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
One of my favorite Rpgs that I've played the Snes.
Re: Review: Terranigma (Super Nintendo)
I never had a chance to play Terranigma. I never heard the game before 1998 or 1999.
I am familiar with the Gaia series though. Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia are excellent games. I heard of first two Gaia games for several years before I got a Snes in 2000.
Re: Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
@Bass X0,
Yes it does.
Re: Nintendo Download: Mixed Messages, Pitfalls, Magic Tricks and Pirates (US)
Activision's first vc release.
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure was unexpected.
I think we also got our first Atari 2600 vc release.
There is a code in the game to play the 2600 version of Pitfall!.
Re: Nintendo Download: DSiWare, Equilibrio & Uncharted Waters (US)
I didn't expect Uncharted Waters: New Horizons to be release today.
Re: USA VC Update: Super Punch-Out!!

Re: Ten Arcade Games We'd Like To See On The Virtual Console Arcade
@ marktheshark
Dragon Buster, Assault, and Rolling were ported in compilations before.
Dragon Buster was in Namco Museum Vol. 2. Assault was in Namco Museum Vol. 4. Rolling Thunder was in Namco Museum 50th Anniversary.
Re: Capcom Mum Regarding Virtual Console Arcade Plans
There is really nothing much I want from Capcom. I already have the two Capcom Classics Collection games for the PS 2.
I would like to Konami's Virtual Console Arcade plans more than Capcom's.
Re: Phantasy Star
The game that was responsible for me to buy a Sms in 1999 and take look at other games for the system.
I got Phantasy Star 1 and a Sms system after I played the 3 Genesis Phantasy Star games.
Phantasy Star is an excellent 8 bit rpg. It is easy for a person to get lost in the game though.
I think it is one of the top 3 8bit game console rpgs ever based on what I played. Dragon Warrior 3 or 4 are the only 2 rpgs that came close.
It's in my top 5 list for Sms games that I've played and I own over 65 of them.
Re: USA VC Update: Bomberman '94 and Detana!! Twinbee
I will downloading Detana!! Twinbee soon. I will be finishing Shining Wisdom first though.
