Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (Switch)

£7.99 (-84%)

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is an excellent action-RPG that's arrived on Switch in a fantastic, feature-packed port. Evan and Roland's antics across this game's sprawling world are stuffed full of great characters, exciting combat and adventuring, and a kingdom-building mechanic that's a delight to get to grips with.

It looks and sounds every bit as good as its predecessor and, although the story might be a little more hit-and-miss here, we were completely hooked into this one from beginning to end. This is a sumptuously crafted adventure you won't regret diving into.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Switch)

£37.49 (-25%)

For years, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has been held as the best Mario RPG of all time, and the Switch remake proves it has earned that title.

This is a fantastic RPG adventure, whether you’re a Mario fan or not, with some best-in-class combat and brilliant writing. A fresh new localisation, beautifully enhanced visuals, and new quality-of-life features help iron out a few little creases to make this the definitive way to play a GameCube classic.

Persona 5 Royal (Switch)

£19.24 (-65%)

Persona 5 Royal is the very definition of ‘required reading' for JRPG fans.

A deep and moving story, stylish presentation, amazing soundtrack, and decision-driven gameplay all combine to make for an unforgettable and exceptional experience that proves itself to be every bit deserving of the hype and praise it’s already received.

While those who have played this elsewhere may want to consider whether Switch's portability is enough to justify a full-price double dip, it suits the system perfectly. Persona 5 Royal easily stands as one of the very best RPGs of the last decade and you’d be doing yourself a disservice to miss out.

Persona 5 Tactica: Digital Deluxe Edition

£20.99 (-75%)

Persona 5 Tactica is a thrillingly varied tactical RPG that fans of the Phantom Thieves and the genre should take note of. It's a little on the easy side, but the varied gameplay, excellent soundtrack, striking visuals, and lovable characters all make for a very easy recommendation.

We’d especially suggest you pick this up if you really enjoyed Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, as we noticed a lot of parallels. It remains to be seen if this is the last time we’ll be seeing the Phantom Thieves don their masks, but if this does turn out to be their finale, Persona 5 Tactica is a massively enjoyable sendoff for the beloved crew, with a ton of DLC to boot.

River City Girls (Switch eShop)

£9.44 (-65%)

River City Girls is an incredibly entertaining and satisfying beat ‘em up. Whether you’re playing alone or teaming up with a friend in co-op mode, the game is a visually superb, aurally fantastic, out-and-out love letter to the genre.

Fans of River City Ransom and other Kunio-kun games will adore how it respects the past but makes it relevant today, while those new to the series will simply find a hugely enjoyable and infectiously cheerful scrapper.

SEGA AGES Out Run (Switch eShop)

£1.79 (-70%)

If you originally missed out on the 3DS port, this is about as essential a retro release as you can get. Out Run has always been an infinitely playable game, and the new unlockables and online rankings only increase its longevity further.

Those with the 3DS version will have to decide whether it’s worth buying what’s more or less the same game again in order to play it on their TV, but for everyone else with an interest in retro gaming, it’s a must-have.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (Switch eShop)

£7.29 (-50%)

If you haven’t gotten around to it by now, the Switch version is certainly the best way to play Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. Tight gameplay, detailed visuals, and charming writing combine to make this a Metroidvania that is a must-play for any fans of this genre or the series.

This gets a strong recommendation to anybody who hasn’t played it yet and we would still encourage veterans to consider double dipping. Though there’s nothing groundbreaking about this re-release, it’s the same great game that it was and the few minor additions are a nice bonus.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition

£10.94 (-50%)

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has never been better than on Switch; the enhanced versatility of the console lends the game a new sort of appeal and convenience that wasn’t there before. This is a charming, colourful, and sometimes challenging Metroidvania that will no doubt prove to be a memorable addition to your collection.

While it could be a little longer, we would give this one a strong recommendation to anyone who hasn’t yet picked it up for any other platform. For those of you who have, know that you’re essentially just paying for the ability to play this on the go, but that’s still arguably worth the asking price. Either way, this is one of the most polished Shantae games.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Digital Deluxe Edition

£23.99 (-60%)

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a stellar example of an enhanced re-release done right - which is fortunate, as the original version was delisted when this launched.

Vengeance's comprehensive approach to improving the story and various gameplay systems of the original release makes for an experience that’s even more engrossing. Though we were disappointed by the lack of any performance gains here, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is still an extremely easy recommendation for any RPG fans.

Some may consider SMT to be “Persona without the heart,” but SMT V: Vengeance cleanly demonstrates that this old Atlus stalwart still has an abundance of fantastic gameplay and unique appeal. A wonderful game.

Sonic X Shadow Generations Digital Deluxe Edition

£27.49 (-50%)

Note. The Switch 2 version is also discounted for the exact same price. It's the same great game with a minor bump to the visuals, so if you've got a Switch 2 and don't own the older version, that's the one to get. We absolutely wouldn't recommend double-dipping unless you're desperate and have money to burn, though!

In what can only be described as a monumental return to form for both hedgehogs, Sonic X Shadow Generations combines two excellent campaigns to create what just might be the very best 3D Sonic game so far.

The remastered Generations content remains a delight, taking you through some of the series' most iconic stages, but Shadow's new chapter represents the franchise's 3D gameplay at its very best. It introduces a bunch of awesome new abilities while showcasing some of the most creative stages we've ever seen.

Alas, there's still no Chao Garden, but we'll keep hoping and praying for its inclusion in the future. Based on this, though, the future of 3D Sonic looks bright.

Split Fiction (Switch 2)

£33.85 (-25%)

Split Fiction feels like a gift. Its sole aim is to entertain and bring players together by testing them at every turn. Hazelight gives us two distinct worlds, each filled with a huge array of activities for co-op partners to enjoy and argue over.

It serves as a surprising visual showcase for the Switch 2 and enhances the Friend's Pass feature, allowing our original Switch buddies to join in the fun.

If you like Split Fiction, then you owe it to yourself to check out Hazelight's previous co-op adventure, It Takes Two, which is currently £17.49 on the eShop.

Subnautica (Switch eShop)

£8.24 (-67%)

When Unknown Worlds announced they were bringing Subnautica to Switch, we were hugely excited — this is one of our all-time favourite games after all — but it was excitement tempered with a degree of scepticism as to how on earth they'd manage to cram the entire experience onto Switch in a properly playable manner.

As it turns out, we needn't have worried. This is a super solid port that, besides a few loading stutters here and there and some scenery pop-in that's present in every other version of the game, successfully delivers one of the very best open-world survival experiences on any platform to Nintendo's hybrid console.

And if you end up loving the first game as much as us, the sequel (Below Zero) is also on sale for the same price of £8.24.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Switch)

£14.84 (-67%)

The Switch isn’t short of games that have already taken a bow, or several, on other hardware, but Skyrim might be the one that most deserves another look from both hardy Elder Scrolls adventurers and absolute beginners alike.

Despite its age showing, with countless little cracks in its already fractured façade, it still delivers a palpable sense of space that few games before or since have managed. May its dancing northern lights never dim.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (Switch)

£37.49 (-25%)

With the titular princess taking a starring role in her namesake series for the first time, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom should be the new standard for top-down Zelda going forward.

Rather than abandoning the classic formula, Zelda has shown that the old and the new can come together and produce wonderful results that reward experimentation and reinforce the joy of play.

In our book, this is easily in contention with A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds as one of the best top-down adventures in the series, and we hope we don’t need to wait another 35 years for Zelda to take the lead again.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 (Switch)

£15.99 (-60%)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 on Nintendo Switch is a rock-solid port of a pair of genuinely fantastic remakes. These really are two of the very best arcade sports titles of all time, revamped, reworked and re-imagined for modern audiences with all the graphical bells and whistles, collectibles and game modes we've come to expect in this day and age.

With flawless performance in both docked and handheld modes and visuals that still look the part after a few necessary concessions here and there, this is one collection we highly recommend you kickflip right into.

Two Point Campus (Switch)

£4.99 (-80%)

Two Point Campus is a masterclass management sim game bursting with creative new ideas and a wholly original approach to success. Its wholesome ‘invest in students and they’ll invest in you’ strategy is a beautiful way to put a positive spin on an otherwise NPC-exploitative genre.

Dampened only by some technical issues on Switch 1 at release, it still manages to be a standout amongst its peers and shine brightly at the top of the class.

And fans of crazy simulation games can also grab Two Point Hospital's Jumbo Edition for the low price of £8.74 or snag the Double Pack for £12.49.

Unicorn Overlord Monarch Edition

£20.99 (-65%)

Even amidst a huge strategy-RPG boom, Unicorn Overlord stands out. It’s a smorgasbord of visual delights, intricate systems, and addictive gameplay loops that all come together to create a delightfully thrilling and deep tactical RPG. It’s so easy to get absorbed into everything the game offers, and we lapped it all up.

Vanillaware has long been known for creating beautiful-looking games with unique twists on genres, but with 13 Sentinels and now Unicorn Overlord, this developer should be on absolutely everyone’s radar.

Unpacking (Switch eShop)

£7.19 (-60%)

Unpacking manages to do several things very well, all at the same time. It’s a touching story told through interaction, it provides the creative play space of a great dollhouse game, and it deftly applies established game design ideas from completely different genres.

Its only real shortcoming is the repetition that is a necessary byproduct of landing its message. Effort has gone into making the controls satisfying on Switch, and the visual and sound design are delightful throughout, making Unpacking, like any sane person’s cutlery, absolutely top-drawer.

We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie (Switch)

£6.24 (-75%)

In rounding off Katamari Damacy’s rougher edges and upping the ante with more diverse mechanics and challenges, even goofier writing, and a terrific soundtrack, We Love Katamari cemented itself as a high watermark for video game sequels in 2005.

Even without the remaster treatment, the game’s maintained its lustre remarkably well but Reroll + Royal Reverie is (an admittedly thin layer of) icing on an already decadent cake. With a number of solid quality-of-life updates and sharper, brighter visuals, this is undeniably the best way to experience the 2005 classic.

World of Goo (Switch eShop)

£5.99 (-50%)

World of Goo is a true classic, and it's revered for good reason. 2D Boy's game is instantly accessible but with plenty of depth; it's paced out perfectly, with a steady stream of new tricks and techniques to learn, and its puzzles can be solved with forward-thinking, quick reflexes or a mixture of both. Wrapped up in a unique, pleasantly apocalyptic presentation, with co-op support and a harder 'OCD' mode for added replay value, this is a complete puzzle package.

If you've played it previously, the Switch incarnation might be worth a second go for its portable pointer controls and on-the-go co-op, but if it's your first time in the World of Goo, it's absolutely a must-play.

Oh, and World of Goo 2 is also on sale for you fans of physics-based puzzles for £18.89

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Switch)

£33.29 (-33%)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a genuine masterpiece and a highlight of Monolith Soft's superb series thus far.

There's an emotionally charged and surprisingly edgy epic to get stuck into here, a sprawling and hugely engaging narrative populated by a cast of unforgettable characters that's backed up by some of the very best combat we've had the pleasure of getting to grips with in this genre.

Over 100 hours into this one, we were as captivated as we were when we first booted it up and it more than delivered every bit of the adventure, emotion, and action that its excellent key art promises. Aionios awaits, it's time to seize the future.

You can also grab the Expansion Pass, either bundled with the game (for £51.87) or separately (for £17.99)

Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (Switch 2)

£31.49 (-30%)

Yakuza 0 is the best of the traditional-styled Yakuza games, with the most complex story and interesting characters of the lot. It's also the ideal place for newcomers to get started with this weird and wonderful series.

The new multiplayer mode is a little throwaway, for sure, and the fights do get repetitive (turn-based Yakuza FTW), but otherwise, this is a phenomenal port of an epic adventure that's now my favourite way to get down on the mean streets of 1980s Tokyo and Osaka.

So, that's your lot for the 9/10s. But hey, what's that? Someone's desperate to get you to look at one more underloved gem in the sale. And it's from 2024, too. Well, let's see what that's all about, then...

And for Alana's Personal pick...

£13.74 (-45%)

In a genre full of excellent games, Nine Sols really stands out thanks to its creative combat and unique aesthetic.

Oversimplifying things, this Metroidvania is like Hollow Knight meets Sekiro; you explore a vast map while fighting tough enemies throughout, but parrying is the key to progression. The hand-drawn visuals are beautiful, blending cyberpunk with Taoism, but the real treat is that parry system, with some outstanding boss battles that will push you to the limit.

Red Candle Games' first-ever Metroidvania is a huge success, and if you're looking for a challenge post-Silksong, this has it in spades.
