Why does a cartridge require an install? That seems weird. Maybe they compacted the game to be on a smaller cart (cheaper) and pass the storage issue (for unpacking or something) on to the user... bad form Lego
Need to see the reasoning behind this. This could be bad for future games. I can already see Skyrim having to go the same route. Game could be maxed on the cart and another 20 gig dl.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Spoony_Tech I agree, given the small base microSD card you're given to start with. This could cause big problems on the 3rd party front outside of Nindies.

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.

Always gotta be some little caveat with Nintendo consoles that could majorly mess a lot of things up in spite of all the great things about the systems...first third party games start costing more money on the Switch than on other consoles, and now they're using up storage even if you buy them physically. I hope those trends don't continue, cause if they do, it could potentially mean bye-bye to basically any third party support on Nintendo consoles in the near future outside of small games. Third parties won't be burned by poor sales twice in a row.
Bad news for those who wanted Lego City Undercover on Switch. The physical copy of the game requires 13GB space on your microSD card, so basically like if you were installing an Xbox One or PS4 game.
@Nicolaison I think it's been confirmed that there's only 8gb on the cart - but it's a ≈20gb game...so the sticker on the box kind of confirms that the missing gigs have to be downloaded in order to play the game. Modern gaming has taken another bizarre twist!
EDIT: Just saw your edit! ..now I'm confused :/ ..I saw somewhere else that the game was ≈20gb on Wii U?
Nintendo Everything (as well as a few other sites) say the download version's file size is 7.1GB. Way smaller. Doesn't make much sense either way, actually.
Most likely, the 13GB listed on the box is refering to if you download it, and they're overestimating in case the game requires patches in the future. But that can't be the size of a mandatory patch in addition to your game cartridge.

@Nicolaison Just found the article I read - also from Nintendo Everything curiously (?) ..not sure what to make of it all - does seem rather odd that they'd make you buy a cartridge with less than half of the game on it, then make you download the rest! Stranger things have happened at sea though I guess..
@TNGYM It was a 20GB Wii U title, ported to current systems.
But...the Switch eShop says 7GB. But tbe game case says internet required, which wasnt on Wii U, and that an additional 13GB need to be installed on the internal storage.
Im going to see if I can check file sizes on other systems. This seems like the company not using the larger 32GB card and just passing the problem on.
At least at this point.
But the eShop file size listing should be final right? Because youre buying it directly it should upfront say how much you need.
@BLP_Software
Either that or they're being extra cautious in regards to the size of patches/DLC. Or its a screw up of some kind by someone. TBH, there's no reason I can see why this would be necessary. If the Wii U could handle it without a data pack then the Switch doesn't need it. If this is what they're doing? It's either a stuff up or a cost cutting thing.

Ah ok, so it looks like they are trying to save money on buying the carts by using a smaller capacity cartridge and forcing a multi GB download.
But the eshop size listing and cartridge downoad listing dont add up... Huh.
I dont see anyway the eshop number could be right if the original game was 20GB... Just that kind of compression would require ... Destruction of audio and visual assets.... Oblivion by compression.
All I know is if this is true then Nintendo better squash this asap. I'd rather pay an extra 10$ then to have to dl the rest of a game which would take a long time to dl no matter what the speed you have.
So it seems quite a few third parties are having.... Caveats for switch version.
On one side, you have some devs who are charging more for a switch version... And then you have the lego game which costs the same but requires a download larger than the cartridge rom?
The ones asking for more money on switch said it had to do with the cost of porting to the device... But I wonder if its the price for carts?
