Re: "If Mario Starts To Show Up On PlayStation, That's The Apocalypse, Right?" - Ex-PlayStation Boss Thinks Console Exclusives Are Still Important

Nintendo will never put it's exclusives on any other platform as they aren't stupid and they still value their fans loyalty over chasing a few more sales.

Also Microsoft are only against exclusives now because their console is dying, they have lost their brand strength and gamepass growth has stalled. That's why they are bringing their games to Playstation and Nintendo.

PlayStation still have a big brand image and loyal fan base so they are safe, they will also be getting a influx of Xbox players jump ship to them. As long as they keep their big first party single player games console exclusive they will fine.

@OldGamer999 I think the only reason it suits Xbox is because no one is buying an Xbox anymore. The Xbox One almost sold half of what the 360 did and the Xbox Series has sold (so far) about half of the Xbox One. And some of that is yes Halo and Gears falling off, but also not having meaningful exclusives.

It is a snake eating its own tail. It's going 3rd party because no one are buying their consoles anymore, but also not giving consumers a reason to own an Xbox over the PS5 and/or a Switch 1/2.

It's just what happens when you canalize your console to prob up other parts of the Xbox brand. Halo on PlayStation (and probably Switch 2 in the near future) is the end of the Xbox console in my opinion.

What people don't realize is morons do not have the ability to separate the mascot from the company. If Mario was on Sony PS6 and it was the worst console ever in terms of reliability... A large percentage of people would think Nintendo made a bad console and is a bad company that ripped them off. Xbox and Sony exclusives aren't associated with the company the same way as Nintendo IP. That's why Super Mario World gets it's own theme park while The Last of Us or Halo would get it's own ride in a theme park. The difference is subtle but epic.

Mario won't show up until Nintendo calls it quits in hardware. That's just a fact.

Yep, as much as on paper having all games on all platforms would be great there are these reasons in practice to still have exclusives for the sake of the games themselves ("push every lever to 11 in that platform" including its specific features, especially in the case of Nintendo ones), the system makers (it's a pretty good reason to get that specific one instead of others first and foremost if not on its own) and of course there's also the matter of healthy competition as already mentioned here - considering all that I hope it will continue the way it currently is, some exclusives that define each platform and everything else on as many as possible if not all whenever feasible!

No worthwhile exclusives means a no buy of a platform for me. Exclusives are the biggest lure. If I can play everything you have in other platforms, why should I buy yours?

That’s why the greatest combo has always been Nintendo + either PS or Xbox. Nintendo values their IP and that has always been their best strategy and the core of their philosophy. Software sells the console.

And that’s why Xbox has continuously lost every generation after the 360.

Having said that… where’s Sea of Thieves for Switch 2, Microsoft?

That is a dodgy one for Nintendo, they live and breath exclusives on the their consoles.
That’s why I have a switch 2. For games like DKB etc. I play docked only.
If all of a sudden DKB showed up say 6 months later or even day one on my PS5 Pro I probably would just have the PS5 Pro.

I think this model only suits Xbox who are really mainly going to be a publisher now especially more in 2026.

However I would love a console that plays all games no matter who makes them.
One console to buy one eco system, one device in my set up. All games day one.

Looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us when it comes to all these series, no matter if big or small (as much as I'd love to see straight up games of course, even just rereleases including Switch 2 Editions or even better new ones on Switch 1 and/or 2) - anyway, congratulations to NieR and even more so Dragon Quest for their anniversaries next year!

If Space Invaders Forever is still available, then I would highly recommend that over the Invincible Collection if the price is cheaper. It's basically a budget-priced "abridged" version of the Invincible Collection, containing only the very best games.

Forever doesn't include the original Space Invaders though. I think most people buying a SI collection would want to own the best-selling arcade game of all time.

Honestly pricing is an issue with all of these ACA games. There's so many games I'd like but can't justify spending 8 bucks on. I think I bought 5 total with 4 of those being on sale. If it were 2 or 3 bucks per game it would be so much more affordable and I would go on massive buying spree. But as it is they're all just passing me by.

Yes, at full price they do feel a bit pricey. But on sale I regularly scoop them up.

Re: ICYMI: Stardew Valley - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Is Now Available, Will You Be Getting It?

Galaxy2IsTheGOAT

Played it last year and loved it. But for me it’s a game I don’t think I will ever play again. But I’m that way for most games. With so many to play I take in a game as much as I can, only play 1 game at a time, and to completion. I will listen to the soundtrack in the future though to take me back. Game deserves its success. Will buy Haunted Chocolatier day 1.
