Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
@just_another_gamer Thank you and signal boosting this comment. 1440p/120 and 4K/60 capture sound too good to be true at $90 usd. And "zero latency" is a thing they can just say.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
The performance is a real shame. Looks like whenever I get it, I'm getting it on PS5
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
I just used the ShadowCast 3 to stream some Kirby Air Riders last night and it worked perfectly. I haven't streamed in years and I've never used a capture card before, but it was super easy to set up and use. I also have the Covert Dock 3 but haven't used it beyond an initial test. I loved the Covert Dock 2 for my Switch 1 though so I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of the 3 (Assuming Nintendo doesn't somehow update the Switch 2 in a way Genki can't combat with firmware updates).
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@AnotherPointForMe They can choose not to use it or have a team big enough to customise it properly.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
It looks like it is much better performance wise on Series X and PC.
I don’t think any Unity or Unreal stuff is good except on the best platform that is supported without a proper team. (Sonic Crossworlds uses Unreal and it is fine except Switch 1)
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@Suketoudara Thats because they use the RE engine, a finely tuned beast. There just isnt much devs can do for the horrible Unreal engine or "baby's first game maker" that everyone just seems to accept is the norm.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
14k/120hz is impressive!
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
You guys should come join the discord. Been a lot of drama around these devices with the backers:
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Nintendo needs to implement a boost mode for switch 2 itself😂
(by allowing higher W usage on handheld for example)
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
I picked this up. Got through the first world and enjoyed it quite a bit! Controls felt weird and stiff at first, but immediately felt better when I took off the 45-degree angle lock.
Got to the second world and was quite taken aback by the performance drop. First world seemed like a solid 60 while the second world was... not. Bit disappointing! I know the Switch can handle this, games like Bananza run smooth as butter with much more complexity. I don't care if you lose all the detail and Meat Boy becomes a perfect cube, I would rather have 60FPS.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
Eh.. A regular ol (V1) GenkiShadowcast with one of these gets the job done with my Switch2 easily.
Not sure why Genki updates their product if their first one works well still
Heck it works with my Android drawing tablet and I don't even need a Computer.
LPing has never been easier.
.. And any less pointless
@CaleBoi25
UGREEN has some (for Switch one and for Switch2 I think Antek or something was a good dock, but finding decent standalone capture solutions with good resolution is not easy
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
I just don't get the point of going 3D! I loved the aesthetic of the original. I feel like all these weird camera perspectives just confuse things.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
@Burning_Spear exactly. I'm looking into getting a capture card for my YT channel, but I won't be helping this company out if I can help it.
Re: Review: Resident Evil Revelations 2 (Switch eShop)
Just reading this back. The advice to skip Revelations 1 is just so poor. I'm playing it at the moment on the (not so) New 3DS and it is brilliant. Play all of the Resident Evil you can folks🧟♂️
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
@Moistnado it was with switch 1, I haven’t heard of any cases with switch 2 yet. Not like with switch 1 at least. Is it a thing? Most compact docks to date rely on the official switch 2 adapter, I’ve had zero issues using the jemdo cable with the official switch 2 adapter and I’ve been using it while on the go since August last year. Perhaps it’s different with a non official adapter.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
These are the guys who leaked the Switch 2 and taunted Nintendo about it. Easy pass.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
Seeing as bricking is a thing, I am reluctant to buy a 3rd party dock for switch 2, or a Switch 2, or any product created by Nintendo.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@HandheldHero Not the fault of the console in anyway. There’s no excuse why this game shouldn’t be hitting a stable 60 at LEAST. This is poor optimization and a ***** engine.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Removed - unconstructive
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
I hated this game. I’m… like I’m happy for those who enjoyed it. But I’m surprised that the consensus is positive.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
How does this compare to the Elgato HD60S?
That is what I use to stream on YouTube.com/Pharone1 and Twitch.tv/Pharone.
I haven't really had any complaints with the Elgato HD60S, but if I have to replace it in the future (its getting old), I might consider this as an option.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
I'm not very familiar with the Genki brand, but I absolutely love their controller collab with 8bitdo.
It's got hall effect sticks and gyro, and it's fully compatible with Switch 1 & 2 (along with Windows, Android, etc). Great for retro gaming and as an extra controller for couch co-op.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
Glad to hear both the latest Covert Dock and ShadowCast are so good - will keep them in mind if I ever need them myself (for now my Elgato 4K X is more than enough) and regardless, happy for those going for them!
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
I love the idea! I worry about using any sort of 3rd party dock with such a new system. However unlikely, it's possible Nintendo could push an update that just "happens" to brick consoles using 3rd party docks or something.
My favorite one with the original switch was a minimal shell where you took the components out of an official Switch dock and used them inside the tiny shell. At least that feels a little safer because it uses all the actual dock hardware and inputs, so it should have perfect compatibility with any firmware updates.
But yeah if there's not any problems reported by the community after a year or two I may just pick one up!
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Frame drops is a non starter for a game like this.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@Suketoudara RE 9 does not run at a consistent 60 fps on Switch 2. It targets 60 fps but more frequently runs between 40 and 50 fps
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
I can’t recommend the jemdo switch 2 cable enough, it works so great and it’s just 30€. Also their support was very helpful after the switch patch. With my switch 1 covert dock from genki I’ve had awful support/service from genki. They’re not a great company.
Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2
That's a sleek looking dock and would be perfect for those who travel a lot, especially if you're staying in a hotel. The price isn't bad either in my opinion for quite a bit of features. Some emotional babies probably won't buy any Genki products because they leaked the Switch 2. Kind of ridiculous how some people are really bothered by something that had no effect on Nintendo and the sales of the Switch 2. Things get leaked all the time and if it bothers you to the point of boycotting future services or products from a particular company, please seek help. It really shouldn't be that serious
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
A great review full of detail, an 8/10, ie Great final score… and all some people can see is that one particular negative bullet point.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@Suketoudara Requiem doesn't run at 60fps on Switch, it tries too and may hit it sometimes but running at a consistent 60fps is something it does not do on S2
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
This was a great review
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
The thing that bugs me the most is the lack of option to reassign controls. Hope it will be added in the future.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@HandheldHero @Suketoudara @SalvorHardin either a bot, a troll, or a salty 11 year old whose parents haven’t bought them a Switch 2 yet. At this point you’d have to be one of those 3 things to suggest that the Switch 2 isn’t fully capable of running very demanding, current-gen games with solid performance given a little effort by the devs to optimize. Lazy ports and / or temperamental engines are generally to blame, not the hardware.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@HandheldHero The Switch 2 runs Resident Evil Requiem in 60fps. Not the consoles fault if some developers don't optimise their games properly for it or in some cases aren't given the time or resources by their publishers.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Not happy to hear performance is already starting to become an issue for some games. The system isn’t even a year old yet…
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
The type of game I'll enjoy watching others play because I value my blood pressure.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@HandheldHero
Console is a funny way to say Unreal Engine 5.
Remember the devs made the choice to make a game about precision 3D platforming but didn’t seem have consistent performance as a number one priority.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
@JohnnyMind Sadly the later music is nowhere near as good as the one on the 360 and original PC versions it is hard to describe but it fits the game like the music levels in Rayman Legends. The new music is pretty generic.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Is there any examples of a small indie team managing to use Unreal well ? (Getting good performance across all the platforms seems to be something even big AAA teams struggle with it.)
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Thanks for the review, fingers crossed they'll further improve it through patches, but glad to hear this game is already pretty good even as is - happy for those going for it (personally, I should give the original Super Meat Boy a try first and foremost before considering this one)!
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Sounds like a fun game to check once/if they improve the performance.
Re: Review: Super Meat Boy 3D (Switch 2) - Not The Finest Cut, But Still Tasty
Its good but yeah the depth of perception is pretty terrible and has led to many deaths. Maybe if the camera could be moved closer that issue wouldn't be as bad.
Re: Review: Snow Bros. Nick & Tom Special (Switch) - A Tired Bubble Bobble-Alike That's Finally Affordable
I remembered this review just because of how unprofessional and useless it felt at the time since I had such great memories of Snow Bros. After getting the game recently I came to say that it's actually worse and more inaccurate than I even remembered. Parts like saying that the enemies potter about are straight up lies as there' many different kinds with many movements and some more aggressive than others.
I'm usually very respectful but in like 10 years or more of being on this site, this is by far the worst thing I have read on Nintendolife and it gives the impression that the reviewer tried to be funny rather than doing a good review. I thought that it wouldn't be as bad as my first impression but it made me cringe several times. There's also a clear bias against the game because of his preference for Bubble Bobble, which in my opinion while similar, was slower and less fun than Snow Bros, which felt faster and more engaging thanks to the rolling snowball mechanics and even offers other playable characters with their own twist.
Re: Review: Adventure Of Samsara (Switch) - Atari's Throwback Metroidvania Embraces Cycles Of Life, Death, And More Death
6 months later I played it, and I disagree with almost all the takeaways here!
First, the game is not hard. It is a total breeze compared to Hollow Knight or Metroid Dread, for example. Only one boss took more than one try—the rest I beat on the first shot. The first couple low-level enemies you fight are hard, because you have to learn the parry system (hint: sound cues are important!), but the game really is pretty easy throughout. I have no idea what the reviewer is referring to in difficulty spikes. If anything, there's an anti-difficulty spike—it seems hard up front and then gets really easy after 1-2 hours.
Second, cheap deaths are nonexistent. There is real clarity to what you're doing and what went wrong—an upside of the deliberate controls. "Cheap knockback deaths?" You're hardly punished at all for falling! Fall into a pit? No problem, you'll respawn quite close by, and you lose about as much health as just getting hit once by an enemy.
Third: parkour-like platforming? The platforming is very mundane and takes a clear backseat to action. Again, Samsara's challenge in this vein is far lower than much of its genre.
Rigid inputs and lock animations are a feature not a bug. Fluidly responsive, "cancel-anything" mechanics are trendy in modern game design, but they're... cheap. If there is no consequence for mistakes, then you can get through the game without learning—without engaging with the game's systems and challenges.
I only had two complaints with the game (which I liked!), but they are pretty significant:
1) My game crashed 5 times (twice on the caterpillar boss), causing me to lose progress. The replays were fairly quick since the game isn't hard, but this was quite frustrating.
2) The denouement was really flat. It almost seemed like they planned more but ran out of time. The game ended abruptly! And motivations/implications were not explored. A bummer—I was enjoying the admittedly elusive story.
All in all, a really cool game with very unique art & mood. Clear inspirations from Blasphemous and to a lesser extent HK. I would recommend it heartily but for the bugs/crashes. Given that issue, I'd recommend it only to dedicated genre fans.
If you give it a try, push through that first hour, which is slow—it really picks up.
Re: Review: Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen (Switch) - Red-Hot Nostalgia In A So-So Wrapper
I just spent 25 minutes and all 65 of my ultra balls trying to catch Articuno who I knocked down to just a fraction of a millimetre of health and paralysed, only to be rejected every single time. Such a fun game.
And don’t even start about how stupid and boring and broken catching in the Safari zone is.
I think I just had an epiphany after 30 years.
This sucks.
Re: Review: Marvel Maximum Collection (Switch) - A Decent Nostalgia Cake With A Konami Cherry On Top
Lame that X-Men is the only game that had online play, they couldn't at least add online play to the arcade version of Captain America and the Avengers and Separation Anxiety?
Re: Review: Kena: Bridge Of Spirits (Switch 2) - Old-School Platformer Offers Sumptuous Visuals & Heaps Of Charm
@michellelynn0976 Err I guess it's not letting you post it. lol
I dont know if there is a dm feature here or not but do you remember the article title, or where (like twitter, Instagram) vgc maybe said it? So far the only thing is an article where it was announced for Switch 2.
Re: Mini Review: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Now A Legit Contender For Mario's Karting Crown
Just bought this game the other day... it isn't even close - it is better than Mario Kart World by a long shot. Mario Kart World feels slow and sluggish. Sonic Racing is fast, fun and frantic even on the slowest speeds, the tracks have multiple routes you can take. it is a blast.
Re: Review: Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition (Switch 2) - A Solid Port With Plenty Of Extra Content, And Bugs
Why do they keep releasing buggy software without basics like proper gyro & mouse controls?
Shameless laziness, why don’t Bethesda take pride in their work anymore ?
