Update: Summer has officially arrived in Mario Kart Tour. Daisy (Swimwear) debuts alongside the new Sunny Surf Sailer and Cheep-Cheep Island. Here's a first look:
Nintendo's mobile title Mario Kart Tour will soon be getting another content update. Ahead of the launch, it's been revealed as a new (but old) track - Cheep-Cheep Island from the Game Boy Advance generation.
Yes, it's another course from the 2001 title, Mario Kart: Super Circuit. This track originally appeared in the Lightning Cup and is known for its sunset skies...and Cheep-Cheep. It'll be appearing as part of the Summer Tour:
This course joins a number of other tracks from the same handheld generation - including Bowser's Castle 1 and 2, and Sunset Wilds. All up, there are close to 40 retro-themed tracks now featured in Mario Kart Tour on mobile.

Really want a new Mario Kart soon. It’s been ages since the last new one.
Everytime a new track gets announced for MK Tour I get a little bit sad. It's been over 6 years since we got a new track in a proper MK, Nintendo!
Hurry up with MK9 and collect every. track. EVER. That'd be a great game.
Love this and MK8, can wait for another MK when a more powerful Switch finally arrives. Until then this quality game will continue to get played daily!
Wait guys I just had a thought, what if, and its a big what if. What if there porting the tracks to The phone so all they have to do, is upgrade it later, with better textures and stuff?
Tried it on launch for a week, wasn't for me.

@Snatcher That's not how porting works... Many of these older tracks are also in a 3D MK, already.
I read "Nintendo is adding" and "GBA" separately and almost popped off.

Mario Kart Tour is setting expectations up for a crazy Mario Kart 9. That game should have every single course ever.

Wild Boss: "No stupid, that doesn't make any sense, we're going to update the other Mario Kart, the one on your phone... that nobody plays"...
Random Worker: "oh yeah, of course. Why would we update the game that everyone is playing when we can update this perfectly good mobile game that literally nobody cares about". "Well at least these clowns are paying me".

@TheBigK Not according to these charts. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling just fine. Mario Kart 9 will come, just not on the current Switch.

@Ghost_of_Hasashi Yeah it's really obvious what needs to happen.
If everyone wants MK9, people need to stop buying MK8.
Just like GTA 6, if you want that then people need to stop buying GTA 5.
Why make a new game, which will obviously kill sales of the existing game and take a risk that may not pay off (if the new game flops), when the game you have is consistently in the top 10 best selling games week in week out.
If you actually think about it that way, it's no wonder why we haven't had MK8 or GTA 6.

Whilst I've never played Super Circuit, I feel so noastalgic about this game (and the tracks in general). Cheep Cheep Island is one of the most nostalgic for me though.
@DK-Fan I never said I expect a new MK (or DLCs) lol. Just that it has way to long since we last got new tracks.

As horrible as the micro-transactions, Gacha mechanics, and grindy nature of the game are, the remixed and retro tracks are pretty dang cool. It's nice seeing tracks like this and Sunset Wilds seeing the light as official retro re-releases for the first time, as well as being able to officially play classic tracks in reverse like I used to as a kid.
On the one hand I’m annoyed this isn’t DLC for MK8D, but on the other hand I kinda like the idea of all the existing cartridges being mostly complete without need for an online update/separate purchase.

My guess is that with next year with it being the 30 year anniversary, they do something for MK….hopefully more than they did for Zelda. I think the comments about redefining the length of a console lifespan are telling. Certainly they aren’t going to make use wait a decade to get a new, unique and proper console version of MK?

great for Tour but MK8 has been heavily neglected for 7 years and across 2 consoles......... no love for the double dippers from Nintendos cash cows!
Well I DL'd this expecting some sort of gatcha cash-grab after all the whinging about it. What I found was a decent Mario Kart game that I haven't had to spend a penny on, can play on the bog when I don't have my Switch, and that has SNES tracks and music which nearly made me explode with glee. It's pretty cool all told. I'd definitely love a Mario Kart Ultimate for Switch though. Something along the lines of the Street Fighter Anniversary thing, that let you choose every version of every character. That would be sweet.
Is this the reason why we are not getting any new content for Mario Kart 8 or a game on the Switch cause everybody is playing Mario Kart Tour?
Nintendo. I would pay real actual money for new tracks in Mario Kart 8. Don't even have to be new ones. Just throw in some from the older games. I have cash, credit card, "special" favours, all waiting for you.
What about Mario Kart Ultimate? Taking the same ideas from Smash and maybe introducing non Nintendo characters? Although that would be problematic for characters like Sonic I suppose!
Mariokart Tour is a fun game and I enjoy everything new added to it. The problem is that it won't be around forever and everything new it gets could have been saved and added to Mariokart 9 instead. Even if they do bring some of these features over to 9, at that point they will have lost their wow factor since they won't be new anymore.
@LXP8 I was thinking that too. Part of me is thinking some of the racks would be cool on the Switch . Part of me is thinking that they would already be stake. If they do it, I hope they have a ton of tracks.
