A private Super Mario Twitter account possibly held by Nintendo has been discovered by fans, potentially adding weight to reports from earlier this year surrounding upcoming remasters on Switch.
The account in question carries the Twitter handle @SuperMario35th, currently showing a temporary name of 'aaaaaaaaaaa' with no activity. The account was registered in March 2020.
As reported by VGC, one user has discovered that it has a recovery email potentially linked to Nintendo. While the characters are naturally obscured for security reasons, they do fall in line with Nintendo's 'nintendo.co.jp' web address. Interestingly, it would appear that both the official SplatoonJP and SmashBrosJP Twitter accounts use a very similar email address.
It's impossible to confirm whether or not the account is indeed held by Nintendo at this stage, but if we were to assume that it is, the account could well become a place for the company to share news and other content surrounding its famous plumber's 35th anniversary.
Earlier this year, reports from reliable sources claimed that Nintendo is planning to release remasters of "most of Super Mario's 35-year back catalogue" on Switch to celebrate the occasion, including HD versions of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64, and a rerelease of Super Mario 3D World. Could these announcements finally be on the way, and will the news come from this newly-discovered account?
We'll keep an eye on the @SuperMario35th Twitter account and make sure to let you know if it becomes active. Hopefully then we'll discover whether or not it truly does belong to Nintendo.

Hmm, that's mysterious. Probably a troll account though.
That will be very interesting and makes us wonder what Nintendo might be planning for Mario's anniversary.
What I hope is that not only some Remasters but also new entries for Mario games (ie. Mario Golf, Strikers etc).
I also hope that this will not mean the second half of the year with Mario games only.
As much as I have fun and like the IP we need to have variety of IPs.
Yeah.. I think we'll get a special Mario 35 Nintendo Direct (or a full Direct) very soon.
I'm always down for a remake of Sunshine.
Anyone can create an account, right? Moving on.
Also, they're a bit late if they want to celebrate this year. And apparently Paper Mario isn't part of that celebration. Weird.
Is it really a mystery that Nintendo are going to continue releasing Mario games, especially in the 35th anniversary year after licensing deals with Lego, Levi’s, Uniqlo, and the delayed Universal studios deal?
If they didn’t have a twitter account for it, that would be news.
Why is the remaster constantly reported as both having and not having Mario galaxy 2?
If this account was made in March, that isn’t really proof of an imminent announcement imo. In fact, whatever announcement would’ve been made by this account probably should’ve happened already, but was postponed because of Covid-19, judging by the accounts creation in March- which is when everything really went down.
I’d wager Nintendo is not only waiting for Xbox’s press conference on the 23rd, but also waiting for Sony’s response to Xbox. I’d expect a Direct between August 1st-8th. A Mario anniversary can be overshadowed by immenent console announcements, but when Mario gets the last word, its hard to stop the hype train
I'm normally someone who is happy to wait and see whats around the corner, but the complete radio silence from Nintendo over what's lined lined up for this year and afterwards is pretty annoying now. Tell us something, anything, for goodness sake.
Just will have to wait and see....
Hopefully direct next Thursday following the release of Paper Mario this Friday just like the March mini direct was the week after the release of Animal Crossing.
But that could be anyone?
So basically the "news" in this is that someone made a new Twitter account. Great.
@MrGawain thats a good point. There is a large influx of Mario merchandise for no other apparent reason. I guess the deals Nintendo made with manufacturers couldn’t be delayed like the games and theme park
@ReWane It’s apparently supposed to be next Monday, getting announced on the 17th
Come on Nintendo, the suspense is killing me!
I would be happy if it were true.
This seems like a dubious story.
Regarding Super Mario Bros anniversary, September 13 1985 is when Super Mario Bros. first released. So, if anything releases on the anniversary date, maybe it will be around the September 13 date.
@ritouf Man, what a bunch of jokers!
There has been an awful lot of rumblings regarding remasters for the 35th anniversary that it would not surprise me if this is true, but it would be nice if Nintendo said something sooner rather than later. It feels like Nintendo has been in radio silence for a long time now.
Just have to wait and see. Nintendo will for sure at some point launch some sort of anniversary celebration. Like the rest of the world's Companies I'm sure Nintendo now are rethinking the strategy on how to proceed.
With so many recent celebrity deaths, COVID news dominating, all the civil unrest/protesting here in the States, and just straight up negative news all the time it's hard to find that "right" time without facing "backlash" for trying to push something without looking tasteless.
@Octane Well, the domain begins with an n, and match the character numbers of @nintendo.co.jp. This is pure speculation, but if someone outside Nintendo did this, they took the time to look like it was from Nintendo.
I just dug Mario Sunshine out of my attic, I'm so damn tempted to play it again but because of the remaster rumours I've been holding off. I'll do a backflip if the rumour is true
You know what they say; hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
@MrGawain Why would they stop making Mario games?
@71nk0 I mean, if you want to make a fake account, the only visible thing is parts of the email, so you'd get at least that right to make it believable. It's literally the only thing you can/have to do.
I highly doubt it. He made that Mario Sunshine video a while back that never came true. Has a Very “‘my uncle works at Nintendo vibe” 🧐
@Octane not too late actually because I think Mario originally got released in September 85.
I'm skeptical that this is a confirmation of the Mario rumors. They are believable, but I don't see the connection in this instance.
There can be instances where there will be one slight difference in the email address and you'll notice this a lot in phishing email addresses, meaning there's a chance this will be fake, so I'll just take this with a grain of salt.
Troll account and is like Nintendolife fell for it 😂😂
I guess I just don't get the appeal of Mario, cause I'm not excited by this news at all. If anything, I'm upset that this will likely dominate the rumored Direct on the 20th... assuming that's even happening.
I'd absolutely love to have a remastered selection of some Mario games for the 35th anniversary so at the bottom of me I'm hoping there is some truth in this! We can't let Super Mario's 35th go by without some form of celebration (he's the same age as me!) Although I know 'Jumpman' is 4 years older.
@WoomyNNYes exactly
I know nothing has been confirmed, but if true, all these Mario Switch ports would be amazing! The only one I haven't played is Super Mario Sunshine, so I'd welcome the chance. Both SMG games and 3D World are covered in my library, but I'd also welcome a serious Super Mario 64 facelift. It's still a very fun game - I played it on the Wii U VC a few years ago for the first time, after buying and disliking the DS port - but some aspects of it haven't aged well.
They are taking their time, I'm waiting for some Mario remakes. Yes, it sounds silly, I know. Old games but I just love Sunshine and 3D World. So if those game are among the remakes/remasters I would be so pleased.
The Switch is really a trip down memory for me with the NSO games and all those oldies but gooddies..... But I also need something new and Paper Mario doesn't seem to be all that great.
@AG_Awesome I hope they dont leave Galaxy 2 out. I like it more than Galaxy 1.
Reports didn't include Super Mario Galaxy 2 but it could be that it is implied that Super Mario Galaxy would include the sequel.
Although Nintendo hasn't confirmed the Mario remasters, several important sources confirm their existence including VGC, Gematsu and Eurogamer.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-03-30-sources-nintendo-switch-2020-line-up-dominated-by-mario-games-old-and-new
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-03-31-more-details-emerge-on-nintendos-mario-remasters
It's safe to assume that the remasters are real. Yes, it's weird that the celebration didn't start with Paper Mario but Nintendo is weird and also Super Mario's birthday is in September.
@Isle_Delfino_Man Same here, I can't wait for that Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64 remakes/remasters!
@BlueOcean
I wouldn’t trust Eurogamer too much. I remember they reported back in late 2016 the Switch will have Gamecube virtual console with Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing as launch titles for the VC and I got excited over nothing.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2016/12/7/13867754/nintendo-switch-virtual-console-gamecube-emulator-store-smash-bros-melee
@abdias SAME!!
@BlueOcean I’ve seen some that have had it mentioned. Maybe it was implied though. But I guess either way we will just have to wait and see for anything official.
Hmmm idk about this. Still holding out hope tho! My prediction is that it will be Mario 64 only
@Don Yes but in this case they are reporting other websites so it's not just Eurogamer:
https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/super-mario-bros-35th-anniversary/
https://www.gematsu.com/2020/03/rumor-super-mario-back-catalog-and-several-other-mario-titles-coming-to-switch-in-2020
https://venturebeat.com/2020/03/30/nintendo-is-making-3d-mario-remasters-for-his-35th-anniversary/
I wouldn't believe them if Eurogamer were the only source because they are quite mysterious and entitled.
It's a twitter account, even if it's genuine it's hardly evidence of anything much.
I am fairly excited for remasters bc I have not played any of them, unless you count a port of 3D World. But if I had been playing them all of these years, I am not sure I would be that fired up. Yeah, it would be cool to see them cleaned up, modernized and maybe even added content (kinda doubt). I will be disappointed if this is the last major release of 2020.
Some guy made a fake Perfect Dark Twitter account and managed to fool people into thinking that the franchise would show up at the upcoming Xbox Series X first party game showcase.
The Mario 35th anniversary rumors have significant weight behind them, but I doubt this Twitter account has anything to do with them.
This account is a troll. Aaaaa? Total troll.
The Remasters are happening for sure, but this is unrelated.
@Don That link is The Verge not Eurogamer.
@Crockin No. That’s not a 35th anniversary celebration. That’s like Nintendo saying “Ooo, we’re going to celebrate our 50th anniversary by releasing an average game we would still release if it wasn’t our anniversary” and while I wouldn’t be surprised, it’s not happening.
@Isle_Delfino_Man Same with Galaxy! I started it on March 29 and then Remasters appeared! I’ve never beat this game because I find it boring, so I’m excited to give it another go.
@Isle_Delfino_Man I've been purposely avoiding playing Mario Sunshine (gamecube) since Switch launch, just in case they release it for the Switch. It's been 3 years now. haha. (If it's not announced or released by December, I'll give up waiting)
@BlueOcean I didn't have a N64 as a kid, so I'd be stoked to play a remaster of Mario 64!
@WoomyNNYes haha I might make that pledge to! If we've heard nothing by December I'll dust off the Gamecube and binge on Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion again
If it was a troll then the user would have probably would at least put a little effort in making it look like an account from Nintendo
It seems way more likely that it's Nintendo securing the handle in advance. Whether they are actually gonna use is to be seen.
@BabyYoshi12 well I hope it gets announced and that you enjoy it my friend, Mario games are just pure joy and I know I'll get any remasters that are released
@BabyYoshi12 lol ok, well the biggest rumor is that it would be a remake of a 3d mario game, and mario 64 is the most highly regarded mario game there is, besides maybe the original, so its not much of a stretch. Try again smooth brain
I think if this happens it will make the worst summer feel better! I would love those Mario Ports so much
What if instead of "aaaaaaaaaa" the name was "Waaaaaaaaah".
It's impossible they didn't have some kind of plans. Curious to see how stubborn Nintendo is and if they'll hold off until the park gets opened next year for SYNERGY.
@Dang69 dang, hadn't even thought of that. I really hope they don't wait that long.
@Dang69 and also for stability
@Moon Lego was part of this, but Lego isn't waiting and acting like a real company during the current crisis. Might seem harsh to say, but it seems like Nintendo has been being more stubborn lately than anything else. After watching the Devolver digital Direct, I was like "good god, there's no reason Nintendo can't throw a Direct together and show some stuff and just not have solid dates for things." A quote from an IGN dude recently said that years into the 3DS lifecycle, Nintendo was still bolting 3DSs to the developers desks at the office, and pointed to that as a tiny example of the problems they may be having in their company culture right now during COVID. I hope they prove me wrong and make me look like an idiot.
Part of me feels the Mario Collection is like the long rumored Metroid Prime HD Collection. Something that sounds feasible, with lots of "insiders" saying its ready to be announced during the next Direct & where is my Metroid Prime collection?
@BabyYoshi12
I think the article reported they got the source from Eurogamer. We shall see if the Mario remastered collection is real, I really hope so. I wouldn’t mind if Nintendo re-release Super Mario All Stars on the Switch as well.
this twitter account and this thread shows how thirsty Nintendo gamers are for actual games.
Here’s hoping if they DO release these, that they’d actually be remastered and look better than they did back on their own consoles. Not just put the game on a cart and that’s it lol.
@sixrings Idk why everyone is so impatient. We got a Nintendo direct mini earlier this year which was long enough to be called a Nintendo direct and people are still acting like we haven’t got any news. After paper Mario releases we’ll probably get another mini direct outlining the next 2-3 months then we will get a Twitter drop for their next big game. Everyone Is acting like we will never get any news, but I honestly prefer to wait for news than to wait for a game that really excites me because then it makes the wait feel longer. I’ve been waiting for LEGO Star Wars the Skywalker Saga for over a year now and we still only know what we got from E3 so everyone can cool their butts off and wait.
@Andymad Nintendo would never just put the games on the cartridge and call it a day. They always make sure that their remasters look like new games.
@KammyWh1te Leakers have been saying that it’s been ready for a year so it’s either not ready or Nintendo is going to wait till a year before prime 4 comes out to release it.
super mario galaxy without the motion controls is gonna be a dream
@vikgamer168 The motion controls are great except for the fact that the wii mote doesn’t work half the time. I’m looking forward to the good motion controls of the joycon. I also hope that motion controls work in portable mode because I want to shake my switch to spin.
@bobzbulder as much as I want to believe, I think alot of these "leakers" are guessing/speculating. It would be the same as me saying theres a Zelda HD Trilogy due because Breath of the Wild 2 has been delayed. If the Metroid Prime Trilogy was done, i speculate Nintendo would've released it as planned as it would've been factored into their fiscal earnings.
@bobzbulder i would like nintendo to have options wether we want motion controls or not then everyone would be happy and that'd be awesome
@slowdive I really hope so, every Nintendo Direct/Mini I've been expecting its announcement & is disappointed everytime it isn't.
Would be great to have Mario 64 and Sunshine REMAKES. the entire games build from the ground using same Mario Odyssey engine. But the Mario Galaxy games in my opinion still look great today. no need for that.
FYI - you can't set the recovery email on Twitter without being able to receive email at that address. So either the "fake" creator of this account registered a long elaborate domain name that happened to look like nintendo.co.jp, got email working on that domain, and set up a dummy twitter account, or it's legit.
If it's legit it's also meaningless. Anyone who has worked comms for a large company in the social media era knows that there is a lot of preemptive land-grabbing that goes on. Even if no 35th anniversary announcements were incoming, it would be very smart of a comms department to grab all the obvious Twitter handles ahead of time, so that you're prepared, and to prevent others from using your brand name maliciously.
@vikgamer168 I’m pretty sure that Nintendo will give us another option. They have been pretty good about I just like the motion controls and would like to be an idiot and shake the entire switch (as a joke of course) and be able to make Mario spin. It would be amazing if they let us do that.
Man you guys will report on anything, won't you? I mean, I clicked into the article so I'm just part of the problem at this point.
Considering how hard it is to buy a switch right now they may be saving any amazing news like that until they get some consoles out there to buy. We already have Switches, Nintendo could care less about advertising to us.
I hope remaster = updated textures, models (especially characters) and tweaked controls. Would love to play Mario 64 with updated Odyssey controls.
Deluxe games are okay, but it has always just been a bump in the resolution mostly and a few new levels.
@Zaphod42 it's really hard, but I snagged a switch yesterday from Best buy for my friend. They sent out an email that looks like a standard advertisement but I noticed that it showed Nintendo switch console on it so I clicked it and sure enough I was able to buy one, but now they are completely sold out again. now granted I have not actually received it as it's supposed to come on the 22nd LOL so we will see if the order holds.
@jikflet I agree! The controls of SMO are so so good.
@Don yes. I think it would be awesome if they re-released Super Mario All-Stars exactly how it was but with HD assets. 1080p Mario 3 would be wonderful.
@Slowdive Yeah, retro probably was working on the trilogy and finished with it around when development of prime 4 got restarted. They did a good job on prime trilogy and got to do prime 4. I imagine that the plan was to give a trailer for prime 4 and a 2020 release window and say that prime trilogy was coming sometime in 2019, but since development was scrapped they just have a game completely done and waiting to be released. It’s either that or they are currently making the game. I hope that retro did remaster the trilogy because that would give them a good idea of what they should do with prime 4. Idk about pikmin 3. If they had it ready they would be releasing it. Right now is a great time to release the game because everyone is bored and it could introduce a lot of people to the series (I mention pikmin 3 because the trilogy and it usually end up in the same leak and it somewhat invalidates the prime trilogy leak).
@jikflet Actually, I think that Super Mario Sunshine looks better than Super Mario Odyssey, what it needs the most is the resolution/textures upgrade, tracking system for blue coins and gameplay and camera tweaks.
@TheBigK I’m glad that you recognize your own fault with that comment, but it is true, they do report on pretty much anything.
@Crockin Right, Super Mario 64 is the oldest but I think it's the best. It just need to be remade.
@vikgamer168 I agree, I would remove motion controls from every Mario 3D/2D game.
Do not get your hopes up!
Skeptical for sure but it's a bit of an effort to sign up such an account and use an email domain similar to other Nintendo accounts purely to troll people. I don't doubt if it was a troll they would've tipped off a few sites long before now (it was created months ago) in order to gain the attention they wanted. I'm going real.
@BlueOcean they did it once and it sucked so bad. I'd love a remake of 64 or sunshine with the odyssey engine/assets/controls.
We also thought The Pokemon Company was gonna do a remake but we see how that turned out (i.e. "he had Johto plushies behind him!"). If anything, I think it will be Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World ports to Switch. But I would love to be pleasantly surprised since Super Mario Sunshine hasn't seen any love since its release.
@Slowdive With all of these rumors of things that where “supposed to happen 2020 would have been way too packed. Nintendo never puts this many games in one year. I doubt that a pikmin event is happening anytime soon. At the earliest we will get one at the end of this year or early 2021. There have been way too many rumors about what was going to happen this year. Why would Nintendo release a pikmin game on the 35th. Mario anniversary. It just doesn’t make any sense.
@Crockin That Super Mario 64 "remake" was for a console less powerful and that didn't have proper controls .
@Crockin They definitely should use the odyssey assets, but not the jump physics because each of the games have their own and it would break som levels of they did that. They do need to modernize some things in sunshine and 64, but not much else (make wall jumps easier and stuff like that).
There's no way they're releasing Pikmin 3 port this year and I don't think they'll release Metroid Prime Trilogy this year either because they just reset development of Metroid Prime 4. No Pikmin or Metroid Prime this year.
I don't think that Super Mario Sunshine needs anything from Super Mario Odyssey, engine perhaps but not a clone. Super Mario Sunshine has its own and fun physics and Nintendo has to modernise and tweak a few aspects like the camera and blue coins tracking system but not use Super Mario Odyssey controls or physics. Super Mario Odyssey is more forgiving with inputs but I expect the same in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine remakes because the originals were a bit too demanding for wall jumps, etc. Super Mario 64 in particular makes wall-jumping quite challenging.
@BlueOcean yes exactly, it was awful
@bobzbulder I mean, they would definitely need to tighten up the jump physics somehow. If the game was built from the ground up, Why not reimagine it around Odyssey controls?
@Crockin I just think that they would need to keep the jump distance and height the same or else they have to redesign all of the levels.
Guys.... I've heard from a very credible leaker the direct is coming next week, not to have high hopes as even Mario 64 will just be upscaled with a few redone models, and worst of all no Mario Galaxy 2... My favourite...
@Haywiz sure bud
@bobzbulder fine by me! Whomps fortress in Galaxy 2 was rebuilt for Galaxy physics and it was great. Same with the peach's castle bit from Odyssey. I personally would not want a 1:1 remake with the exact controls, but that's my preference
2021/02/21 marks 35th anniversary. And that’s one cool date
@bobzbulder @Crockin The good thing about Super Mario Odyssey is that controls are refined and smooth but I think that if they remake Super Mario 64 and Sunshine controls will be smooth too even if they respect and port the original physics.
@Crockin I don’t want it to be a 1:1 remake. It honestly doesn’t matter to me since I haven’t played the game, but I think it would be better to keep the original jump height since changing that could potentially ruin some levels. They definitely need to tighten up the controls and whatnot, but I think it’s more likely that they keep the jump physics the same to make it easier to make, but I could be wrong, they might just use the odyssey physics (if this comment comes off as defensive sorry, I’m not trying to make it sound that way).
@BlueOcean Yeah that’s true.
@bobzbulder They better keep the Mario Galaxy physics the same because if they changed anything it could break the entire game.
@bobzbulder Yes, that's what I mean, you can polish controls so Mario controls better in the remakes and still have the original jumps and physics. It makes sense.
@BlueOcean
Just to chime in from a neutral standpoint, Eurogamer appears to be an affiliate/partner of VGC, and Gematsu is simply parroting Eurogamer/VGC's articles. So it appears that VGC is the only original source out of the three articles you linked.
I'd like a remake of Super Mario 64 opposed to a "HD" version which just sounds like the exsisting game with higher resolution
Also give us some Super Mario Land goodness, those games were great and was my first venture into a Mario game
@Ulysses I appreciate your reply. Like @NEStalgia said, it's a Nintendo website so we can only speculate. Nintendo doesn't give any kind of clue so all we have is these reports... :S
Its fake, the remasters are fake. Why would Nintendo do something so pro consumer and fan servicey? They're too incompetent to pull that off. lol
But in another universe they did release them to great sales and reviews. We're in Incompetent Nintendo Universe though.
What´s the exact date for this anniversary?
@tourjeff Yeah. Believe it or not, there are Nintendo fans that don't care that much for Mario beyond the earliest games (and those mostly due to nostalgia).
Nintendo isnt going to remake Mario 64 and then bundle Mario Sunshine and Galaxy with that remake. The 35th anniversary collection will contain HD remasters of Mario 64 + Sunshine + Galaxy, where all 3 games are running at 1080p 60 FPS with widescreen support and tweaked controls, while texture and model geometry remain the same
If Nintendo were to sell a full blown built-from-the-ground-up remake of Mario 64, it would be its own standalone release like the Link's Awakening remake.
My body is ready.
@westman98 I agree with you because Nintendo wouldn't be that generous but the sources say that it could be a collection or separate remasters like The Legend of Zelda.
Mario's 25th gave us a SNES ROM on a Wii disc.
Kirby's 20th gave us six ROMs on a Wii disc + anime.
It all fits together, Mario's 35th will be a port of Galaxy 1+2 on one cart.
I'll die if this rumor ain't true and showed on monday
Switch already has enough overpriced ports as it is, and 35 isn't even an interesting milestone (Mario's old enough to run for president? 10 years away from becoming presbyopic?). If it comes to be, it will be one game at a time for $80 a piece.
@Octane They can of course, though it’s trickier to make one with a recovery email address that matches that pattern, But far from impossible.
@scottishwildcat I mean, all we know is that it ends in ''n*******.**.**''; so it could be nintendo.co.jp, but it could also be ''niblebut.ms.ps'' for all we know. As long as the first character matches the official email, and contains the same number of characters you can't tell the difference.
Bring in the fullprice ports!!1
All I want to know is who has the time to spend their day looking for random Twitter accounts for Super Mario? Perhaps that is an indie game that needs to be made. You know "From the Creators of Toilet Tycoon..."
It's real
They called it aaaaaa because that's the reaction everyone had when we saw it
I looked up @supermario35th on twitter after the Mario direct and it is indeed a real acoount
