Completely out of the blue, Nintendo has revealed that a Nindies Showcase video presentation is on the way later this week.
The show will air this Wednesday, 20th March at 9am PT / 12pm ET (so that's 4pm GMT / 5pm CET). According to a brief press release, the show will feature "roughly 30 minutes of information on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch".
Interestingly, the Nintendo of Europe Twitter account is referring to the event as "Nintendo of America's Nindies Showcase".
As always, we'll be covering the entire event right here at Nintendo Life, so make sure to pop back to watch all of the announcements live with us.
Where did this come from? And what do you expect to see? Let us know in the comments below.

I hope to see My time at portia!
These Nindies aren't usually too impressive, but I'm still interested to see what they'll announce.
Could be something incredible after all.
Untitled Goose Game, please!
I'm expecting we'll hear about A Hat in Time.
Cool. I'll check it out. I heard a rumor that a bunch of third party Switch titles were about to be announced. Hopefully this is the beginning of that.
Slay the Spire and Indivisible please
Slay the Spire surprise drop please!
Awesome. I always love these indie presentations, almost as much as Directs. There's always so many quirky and interesting titles that you don't see from the larger developers.
30 mins, has a nindies presentation ever been this long?
Nice!
I go in without hopes or dreams so I will never be disappointed!
So, it will be on 20 March 2019 , 11 PM on West Indonesia Zone.
I don't expect much but i want to see Astronauts, 99Vidas, Farm Together get Physical release.
They usually spend less time talking bout one or two indies in these compared to normal directs right?
So we looking at how many games you reckon? 12+ 20+ ?
@CurryPowderKeg79 Your not wrong lol
I am always excited for those surprise instant releases!
Sweeeeeeet!! I love the nindies presentations. Much rather they have their own showcase than be crammed into a direct with bigger announcements. Really hoping to see a true release date for shovel knight KoC..
Giz a date for Killer Queen Black and Kentucky Route Zero would ya
Untitled Goose Game!
ooooh nice way to wake up on Wednesday for sure! Switch has become my indie machine (with AAA filling in the gaps from time to time) so I am all in on this!
Unleash the Goose!
Wow, a Nindie Showcase on my 19th birthday? What are the odds! Skullgirls release date pls!
Just give me a Skullgirls release date please.
Awesome! I knew they'd want to have another indies showcase ahead of PAX at the end of the month. Really looking forward to whatever they have to show. Say what you want about indie games, but you can't deny that indies have been responsible for some of the most groundbreaking and creative games on Switch--Celeste, Hyper Light Drifter, Golf Sotry, Steamworld Dig 2, etc.--all of which were announced at Nindie directs, too! Needless to say, I'm looking forward to it!
Ori & The Blind Forest, perhaps this is what King Zell has been hinting about?
@justin233 Considering about a month ago they announced it was delayed and "will not be arriving until later in 2019", I'd be surprised if we hear about it in this Nindies Showcase. Never know though I suppose.
A hat in time and untitled goose game please! I can't wait!
Nice one. I would like to see
Silksong release date - possible.
The Messenger DLC release date - likely.
Reveal of Playdead's new game - unlikely to be revealed in a Nindie Direct but still possible.
Reveal of Shinen's new game - possible, it's long overdue.
Layers of Fear 2 announced for Switch - inevitable, just a matter of when.
The Goose from Untitled Goose Game revealed as next Smash Bros character 🙏
I don't know what to be excited for?...Probably for the best.
Hopefully Untitled Goose Game and Shovel Knight.
Goose game or riot
I very badly want A Hat in Time
There was that one game they once showed that looked interesting. Took me some time to find the name of the game. It was My Friend Pedro. I would like to know a release date for it.
Just give me the Goose
For me, Directs tend not to bring out the best of Indie games. 2D platformers and pixel art tend to look the same as each other when they're bundled together as part of a longer presentation. There are plenty of games that I ended up loving, or getting very excited about (Into the Breach comes to mind), because of reviews or online buzz that I felt indifferent about when I saw them on a Nindie direct.
So I'll watch with tempered expectations on Wednesday before I get properly excited when a game starts to gain momentum.
I forgot all about Killer Queen Black.Strange it's taken so long for a game like that to come out after the way Nintendo announced it at E3.Just had a thought, could it be another game for Switch Online like Tetris 99? It's possible!
I’ll never learn the difference between a.m. and p.m. Luckily, Nintendo of Europe have my back.
GDC is this week.
Indie awards are Wednesday night.
Oh boi, more ****** indie games! Can't wait not to watch it!
(You used some not so lovely language - Matthew010)
Maybe we'll even learn that elusive Terraria launch date.
@BenAV Doesn’t mean they can’t show some footage.
It's good these Indies get their own Directs, as opposed to being crammed into a larger Direct, more centered on larger, more-popular games.
Plus, this gives them some spotlight, including of the financial variety, separate from anticipation of the more established, popular franchises/series.
@justin233 Sure, it's certainly possible. I'm just not really expecting to see anything at all so soon after the announcement of a delay.
Awesome! I love nindie directs
And so my backlog will grow!
Holy crap 30 minutes!
1. Ooblets
2. Just Shapes & Beats 2
3. Cuphead
4. My friend Pedro
5. Goose game
6. Twooka-Laylee
7. Samorost Trilogy
8. Golf Story 2: Midget Golf Story
9. New game from the Graceful Explosion Machine team
10. Pixeljunk Monsters 3
11. Neon Assault Neo 2
12. New game from the Blossom Tale team
13. New game from the Snake Pass team
14. Vroom in the Night Sky Remastered
15. A VR game to coincide with Labo VR
I want release dates for
Shakedown Hawaii and Untitled Goose Game
Here's to hoping there's some news related to Untitled Goose Game.
...Wasn't that Goose game delayed? I doubt it'll show up here.
Can't wait! I hope we'll get some discounts for already published Indies. I'm really wanting to get Rain World after the recent recommendation by MatthewMatosis.
I have a question: Who will host the Nindies showcase now, or will there even be a host
I hope Castle Crashers or anything Behemoth makes comes to switch. That's all I want
@Joeynator3000 Yeah, about a month ago they announced that it was delayed and would be released later this year. I suspect there might be a few disappointed people here in a couple of days.
@RupeeClock There can be definitely the occasional gems, however rough. I've pretty much enjoyed a fair bit of Wargrooves so far even if the original release's difficulty was eventually kicking me in the ass a lot(though thankfully it sounds like there's not much substantial stuff really locked behind the higher difficulty levels so I might just go and complete the campaign at easier difficulty).
If anything for every indie title that disapointed me in the past I can look to almost just as much titles from "AAA publishers" having left me underwhelmed with some games as well.
Hmm that rather fast since we had one just two months ago. Still not complaining as their usually two or three games I like in these directs
I just remembered, West of Loathing DLC, I want it! >.<
Why does Nintendo take forever to approve this stuff? xD
@JR150 365.25 to 1 I'd say
Personally, I'm just interested in the Mario Maker 2 Direct.
Obra Dinn, Obra Dinn, Obra Dinn... (with the goose!)
I hope my wallet and my microSD can take it.
@nhSnork I guess the original 2017 release date for Terraria may have been a tad optimistic.
Man'o'Man so it's April Direct now
Just King of Cards and Steamworld Quest would be more than enough, but I really want to see what the Golf Story devs are up to.
@BenAV ...Looks like it'll be more than just a few, lol
@MeloMan There's been a female voice for the last couple of Nindie Directs. No idea who she is but I'd be lieing if I said I was a fan of her voice or bad puns.
Ok...my backlog is growing infinitely with all this indies (and I'm loving it). Keep them coming.
Really hoping there will be a date for dead cells 1.2 update.
In my dream world a Humble Nindie bundle would be announed at the same time.
I havent been impressed with a nindie yet. I would expect disappointment, but my expectations are so low I doubt I'd be disappointed. I'll probably give it an eyeroll when it's over & never give it another thought for the rest of my life.
King of Cards is the only thing I’ll probably really care about. Maybe the new SteamWorld game too but I imagine that’s further out. It’d be great if we got King of Cards as an immediate download but if I recall it was delayed a bit longer...
I don’t want the direct to be about the announcement of release dates about the games we already know about, I want announcements of previously unknown games.
Maybe pyre to go with bastion and transistor??
@OorWullie Those were the Nindie Showcases on the UK channel which are different to the actual Nindie Directs that normally feature the American Nintendo guys. I know what you mean about her voice being a bit annoying, I'm a Londoner and it grated in me too. A bit too "Tally-ho, jolly good, hockey sticks, okay-yah" for my liking.
Hotline Miami 1 and 2 please!
One more for My Friend Pedro! It was due in Q1 2019 so fingers crossed for an “out later today” release date!
@Indominus_B You’re using the word ‘literally’ incorrectly.
While I’m not a huge fan of pixelated art styles, not every Nindie uses them.
Morphies Law needs a comeback update announced. Loved the concept but laggy as all hell and it hasn't been on sale or featured ever so beyond a few weeks of sale, yeah the game us practically dead online
Please announce divinity original sin 2. I want to play this so badly, but like persona 5, I need it on a portable system to, realistically, ever finish them.
I just want 60 games with 30 seconds spent on each in a non-stop sizzle reel with a cool soundtrack. That's all.
@OorWullie @Dromosus Thanks for the info, I guess I should've been more specific. I know that Damon Baker moved on from Nintendo, but was just wondering if whoever replaced him would be hosting, or would we just get the ol' disembodied narrator talking over the reel.
I’m excited to see what’s upcoming, even if my wallet isn’t.
And a hearty BOO to those people here unilaterally dismissing indies as wastes of time. That’s as ignorant as saying all AAA games are universally good. There have been some real indie gems released on Switch that go WAY beyond pixel nostalgia trips or shovelware.
@Lumine I am super excited about a hat in time, but do we really need a Nintendo direct for release date?
@Indominus_B No, I didn't cherry pick anything.
"After 2 years in tho, the switch is literally STILL just a nindie machine." <-- There's things other than nindies. That's the wrong use of the word.
Then I hit the return key and mentioned art.
No need to be rude, but you do you.
All I want is My Friend Pedro to finally have a release date
@Medic_alert Hell yeah. Let's go bananas!
Obra Dinn would be nice. It was game of the year on some places I follow (RPS, Zero Punctuation) and won best art direction on TGA
Miami showdown !
Some of the best times I had on the Switch so far were with indies, hence I'm really looking forward to see what'll be on offer the coming months and maybe there will be even another surprise release (and instant buy like Bad North or Into the Breach) at the end of the presentation.
@getyourak Both incredible games and great fits for the Switch. I actually went through the Indivisble demo twice on PS4 ^^ Wish they would bring back Valkyrie Profile as well, but SE cannot even be bothered to re-release it digitally on PSN.
I'd love to see a port (even a basic one like the FF re-releases) of VP on the Switch. I'D buy that in half a heartbeat
@Indominus_B I agree whole heartedly with you. Aside from indies there not much on the switch. It comes out with the occasional big boy AAA game . Barely any new first party games to speak for. I said this before and I say this again without the influx of indies, the switch is WII u 2.0 as far as library is concerned. I love Nintendo but I’m just not the crowd it caters too anymore. Shovelware week after week in the Eshop. There honestly hasn’t been anything that’s good and new since smash bros ultimate. They drop 9 zillion indies with 6 of them being decent and Nintendo die hards on here eat it up. I just don’t get it. But to each there own I suppose.
Yeasshhhhhhhhh so happy with this
I know it would never happen this early but I would be in bliss if they announced any info on Deltarune chapter 2.
Re:Legend would be nice. But I doubt that since its still in its Alpha stages...
Id like to see the sequel to Darkest Dungeon from Red Hook.
@peanutbuttercup
Has he tried viagra?
@Mgene15
I don't mean to shill but
https://www.nintendolife.com/nintendo-switch/games/browse?status=upcoming
Shovelware is shovelware, no need to pay it any heed.
I wish Invisigun Heroes would be released on switch. Yes I signed up to say this!
Total Biscuit made a video on it, praising it highy. https://youtu.be/3unZ0IZNhiY
I think it would play great on the switch.
These things are always fun. Hopefully a full Direct will follow soon. Then again, Nintendo has been announcing games differently, as of late.
Excellent. The indie scene is much more interesting than the endless parade of tedious lootbox shooters and cookie cutter open world collectathons that pass for so much of the AAA industry these days.
@Indominus_B
They haven’t ‘given up’ trying to get so-called ”big boy” games. If what you mean is Western AAA games they were never part of the plan.
Where’s “Decay of Logos”? That’s all I really want to know. But I’m sure there will be a few cool announcements and a couple games releases that day too.
Nice, always interested in the indie titles. Still hoping Devolver Digital announces the remastered Serious Sam games for Switch. Speaking of DD, I feel like Hotline Miami on Switch is inevitable at this point.
I mean, I'm definitely not expecting anything from it. But there probably won't be a regular direct anytime soon. So why not?
@Donutman I completely forgot I wanted that game. It looked like a nice indie LoZ-style action RPG. Decided to check their blog, and it says they're getting close to finished. So it might just be a possibility!
Freedom Planet 2 please.
@Indominus_B calm down
So is Switch now the official indie console platform...?
Look forward to watching. Always up for a good indie title or two.
Currently enjoying flame in the flood, certainly is a newish genre to me and would welcome more like it.
Maybe we will see Cuphead and Ori there.
I’m hoping for some hazelnut bastille! I don’t even know when that game is releasing but hope it’s soon.
30 minutes? Nice. I always enjoy the Nindies. Steamworld Quest release date and more information is almost a shoo-in. Maybe even a stealth drop for after the showcase?
I would like:
Release date for mineko night market
Steam world quest
Slay the spire
A hat in time
Last trailer for The world next door
30 minutes is a long direct! I would be surprised if A hat in Time didn't finally show up.
Can't wait to see it!
Grid Autosport release date please!
I got Wargroove, Iconoclasts and Stardew Valley. There aren't really any other indies I'm looking for right now - so it will have to be something new that catches my attention.
I hope to see info on Dusk switch release!🙌
Alright, I'm going to predict that we'll get a Direct sometime around April. I think that we'll get it April 3rd-4th, 10th-11th, or 17th-18th.
Is someone who releases Nindies called a Nindian?
Castle crashers
@cLock1358 Alien Hominid!
Wow, 30 minutes - have we ever had such a long Nindie direct? Hoping to see A Hat in Time and My Time at Portia (I believe they both have generic spring release dates), and maybe something more about Steamworld Quest. Bring on the Nindies!
These stand-alone Nindie Directs are great. Showcasing smaller titles, which would otherwise get lost if shown in a normal direct.
Well, this kind of settles it. Unless there's a Direct between April and May, I guess waiting until E3 it is, then.
On a brighter note, is this any different from the Indie Highlights we got during our last two Januaries? The different runtime and name definitely seem to suggest so.
“Point me to the Eastern AAA games weve gotten? If the western ones aren't the plan maybe you believe the 'big boy' Japanese AAA games are gonna push it?”
I never mentioned Eastern games. I was just trying to guess what you meant by your meaningless ‘big boy games’ phrase. The plan is clearly for the form factor to sell the Switch along with Nintendo games, a huge Indie library and whatever third party support comes along as a bonus. That’s been obvious from day one and is working.
“Bc the truth is, rather your in denial or not numbnuts, is that we need big aaa games to fill in the gap”
Who’s ‘we’?
“I'm a Nintendo fan. But I was a nintendo fan many years before they jumped ship on triple a titles.”
When did they have AAA games to jump ship from?
Most likely back before you were born.”
Wrong.
“I was playing when the 16 bit age was brand new.”
Well then you should know that Nintendo systems always struggle for third party support. You should know that if you want AAA third party games you’ll need something else.
“I have always, and will continue to, buy nintendo consoles and no other. No playstation. No xbox.”
Well then how can you possibly claim you’re bothered about the games that aren’t on the Switch. If you want those games, buy a system that they’re on.
“Bc I will always love smash bros, zelda, metroid, mario, f zero, star fox and just about damn near anything else they drop”
That doesn’t mean you can’t buy any other systems.
“But to continue what I was saying, the hard truth is, they cannot expect to stay afloat forever releasing 2 big games a year with nothing to fill in the gaps. And the truth is, we only got 1 big game from them last year, being smash ultimate.”
The Switch has over 1000 games. It has 255 games on Metacritic at 76+. It’s selling really well. It’s not having any problem staying afloat at all.
As for ‘1 big game’, last year Nintendo released Pokemon which sold 10 million, Mario Party which sold over 5 million, another three that cleared two million and another two that cleared one million.
“While these games are my favorites by lightyears, you cant be releasing these 'big boy' first party titles two or three times every few years and not have anything in between. That's all I'm trying to say”
And it’s wrong. That isn’t what they’re doing.
“Point blank. Numbnuts....youngin”
Given I’m closer to retirement than school age and that I’m not the one who keeps using ‘numbnuts’ you may want to give up on the age angle.
“there's a reason these indie games can be sold for 5-10$ and go on sale for 3$. Bc the production is cheaper and these guys know it's a fast way to make a quick buck on casual gamers”
A lot are rubbish (also true of ‘big boy’ games, as far as I can infer what that actually means) but a lot are also really good (and Nintendo are good at picking out the worthwhile ones in these showcases). Anybody who dismisses all indie games is clueless. It isn’t a genre, it’s a type of developer and ‘indie’ covers thousands of games across pretty much every actual genre you can think of.
I'm not sure when this starts in my country, is it five hours and twenty minutes after I posted this?
