One of the most adored indie games on Switch, Hollow Knight's journey to a physical release has been an almighty adventure (just like the game itself, then). Luckily, you can go ahead and pre-order a super-duper physical edition right now. So what are you waiting for?
Mumblings of a physical edition have been circulating for a couple of years now, with an official announcement finally coming last summer. Sadly, this release got cancelled and all hope was pretty much lost, but this new Collector's release available through Fangamer has saved the day.
Both standard and Collector's releases are available, priced at $34 and $69 respectively. All physical copies come with a manual and a fold-out map of Hallownest, but the Collector's Edition has some bonus goodies thrown in:

- 14-page Quirrel comic book
- Gift-box-style case with gold-foil filigree and a clear printed sleeve
- Gold-foil art print set by Ari Gibson

I opted for the Switch Collector's Edition ($69.00) with pre-paid customs UPS express shipping ($37.93), which totalled to $106.93, which'll cost me £81.55
Which is a tad pricey, but oh well. Shipping from Fangamer has always been costly for me due to customs, I don't get this issue with Limited Run Games as such.
When I first saw the article, my initial thought was "Welp, probably through LRG or one of those limited release companies that release a small batch of a game and it sells out in literal seconds. Just to be found on ebay with the classical markup".
I'm glad I was wrong. Fangamer does a great job on making sure people that want the physical copies and CEs can get one.
It looks nice, but at this point, I'd rather spend this money on Limited Run's "Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon" CE. Much as I love handdrawn and Metroidvania games "Hollow Knight" just didn't do it for me and it turned from fun to chore very quickly...
@RupeeClock I indeed saw that option and thought $30.98 (which is what it says for me) for shipping is a bit too much. Which is why I'm wondering how much the actual customs/taxes would be.
Definitely didn't have this problem with Limited Run Games.
I'd dearly like the special edition, but £81 including shipping is too much for me. UK release? Unlikely, but we can hope.
My favorite game I played last year! This is one of the few games ever that I think was underpriced on the e-shop. After 35 hours and 100%+ completion I won’t be double dipping, however if you have not played I can not recommend this game enough to anyone who likes platformers and a good challenge!

For me, the cheaper shipping option displayed a very specific and visible warning that "Royal mail will probably charge a customs fee of at least £16".
Which technically would've been cheaper still, but I decided to avoid getting stung for customs this time, and get this game in my hands sooner than six weeks later.
So it wasn't Limited Run who were going to handle this one after all.

It certainly seemed like it after recent tease of an exciting release for Switch owners.
Don't get me wrong though, the reveal of Bloodstained Curse of the Moon is an exciting release which I plan to get. It makes me hopeful for other Inti Create Switch titles getting a physical release too like Blaster Master Zero and Mighty Gunvolt Burst.
@Monkeido well I'm about to order two copies for me and my brother and it says that Royal Mail MAY charge me £16, but thats based on $217 worth as we are also ordering the Wanderer's Journal.
I do love me a good physical copy... and I am a sucker for an especially nice Collector’s Edition... snagged!
I have HK on digital, but I might double dip for two reasons: it's worth so much more than I paid on the e-shop, and I'm almost guaranteed to buy Hollow Knight: Silksong's inevitable physical edition when it comes out, so I'd like to have a matching pair.
$218 later and I have enough Hollow Knight swag to make my life complete

Well, I don't think they should have made such a big deal out of revealing a game like Bloodstained. It only results in disappointment. I do plan getting it myself, but I don't think it's huge like Hollow Knight would have been or Stardew Valley.

Well it was just the CEO making a single tweet, not really that huge of a deal as the actual company making announcements.
That said Stardew Valley has had its physical Switch release already, it was released in Japan but it's multi-language.

Yes, it appears to be open pre-order, even for the collector's edition.
It looks like Fangamer will work to fulfill the demand, instead of only producing a fixed number of collector's editions.
They do restock such items too.

Neat. I’ve been dabbling with this game for a few months now and I’m pretty impressed with it. Pretty easy to get lost in the labyrinthine depths though.

As much as I would absolutely love to have this, I can't bring myself to buy this game a fourth time. I have hollow Knight on PC, switch, and PS4, beaten on PC and switch, mainly bought the PS4 version just to show support to this amazing dev.

Ha "platform of choice" no Xbox option though. That aside, there's a real missed opportunity to have each platform color coded, I think there was even a green background for the non-existent Xbox version.

Just preordered the collector’s edition and the Wanderer’s Journal. This is one of the coolest looking collector’s editions I’ve seen in a while, and the journal looks amazing!

Limited Run Games is overrated; it's run by hipsters (seriously, look up the clowns that run the company) who seem to care more about making a game limited, "exclusive" and rare so they feel special, instead of serving the needs of customers who actually want the games to play.
Oh my god i just preordered it, i waited to get my hands on a physical release what feels like ages. Played Hollow Knight for hours and still loving it. Yeys!

I’m always glad to see a collector’s edition for cult classic titles like this. I won’t be picking it up, but I like that there is a strong enough fan base to pay the big prices for this stuff. And I will be sure to buy their next game on Day One to make sure they get plenty of money for it.

I waited for a physical release first. Then they finally announced one, so I was happy and passed on a digital sale. The sale was over, then they announced they were no longer going for the physical release.
Later, there was another sale, so I got it digitally. And now this...
It looks gorgeous, and a few years ago I'd have paid whatever they asked for this (not literally, obviously), even after already getting it digitally. But those days are over.
Well, I hope the one who gets the copy I'd have gone for otherwise gets their joy out of it in my stead.
I ordered the standard edition with the pin. While the collectors edition is nice, I don't really need all the extra goodies.
The game was worthy of a physical edition from day one.

My OCD is not fond of missing out on a game cart of Mega Man Classic Collection volume 2. It's great that X volume 2 is now an option, but it sort of hurts missing the former even more.

Cool, these are all games that I've ordered physically as well, for wanting something better than just a digital offering.
It irritates me too that Mega Man Classic Collection 1+2 is only a physical copy of 1, with a download copy of 2, and no means of getting a physical copy of 2. It's the main reason that I haven't bought it.

Any reason to preorder this directly from Fangamer rather than Best Buy? No, I'm not a member of Best Buy's video game club.
