Stardew Valley has been a fantastic addition to the Switch eShop, blending Harvest Moon farming gameplay with some aspects of Minecraft to provide a low-key, yet addictive experience that can just keep going. It’s been a perfect fit for a hybrid console like the Switch, and the developer has been making noise lately about an upcoming update which will be adding in multiplayer functionality, alongside a handful of other improvements.
Those other new features have largely been a mystery up until now, but ConcernedApe recently came forward with some news as to what we have to look forward to. Though none of these new tweaks are game-changing, they do certainly help to streamline or improve the quality of the game, and it’s nice to see the developers continuing to give the game support. Here’s what’s being added:
What do you think? How have you been liking Stardew Valley? Will the impending update coax you back into playing? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

85 hours in. Don't need a reason to pick it back up, but pick it back up I shall. Fantastic game!
One of my, if not the, favorite indie game. Stopped playing for Xenoblade 2. Can‘t wait to play it with some peeps on here when the multiplayer update hits.
Exciting!!!
@GoldenGamer88 Me too! I was hesitant to pick it up, but I haven't been this hooked by a game since Breath of the Wild came out!
Excellent Game the saving time was terrible before, little improved now. Anyone know what is planned for multiplayer?
Will multiplayer be local co-op mode on split-creen ?
I hope for more NPC events, a bit of more story behind each villager would be wonderful.
A retro style game that can easily hang with the big boys in terms of quality.
More mines would be cool in my opinion.
Cannot wait. It's my most played game after Zelda
100 hours in and I will go back.
One update I'd like is the pc mod to zoom out the camera, so we can see more on screen.
Seen a few YouTube videos with that mod and it looks so much better and your character is not tiny, which I thought it would be.
Not on twitter myself, but if someone on here could tweet that to the Dev for the Switch that would be great!
i want to place a pictures on walls in my house.
If it's local co-op then this might be my very first farming sim game... I've never been interested by the genre, but if I can sit down, relax, and play this with my wife then I'm willing to give it a try.
@Nikkarin The game allows you to do that. I myself made a point of collecting paintings in the game.
@ricklongo i dont know why, but in my game i cant do it. I stand next to wall, i hold painting.....and nothing. I cant put it on wall. (sorry for my english)
@Nikkarin it took me awhile to figure out. You have to use your right thumb stick to move the painting on the wall, then hit “y” to place.
@Dijita i will try, thanks
@-DG Everything online multiplayer is local co-op if you just buy a second Switch... the pressure is on, but we haven't done it ourselves.
Professions? you can be something other than farmer and explorer?
@Ryu_Niiyama It might be referring to the options you pick once you reach levels 5 and 10 for each skill, though I'm not 100% certain
@Pip_Pipston Hmm. Hadn't thought about that. I suppose that makes sense. I'm pretty satisfied with my build though.
When though?
@aaronsullivan Ah... Yeah then I'll probably be passing this up. That's the same reason I won't buy Splatoon, as good as that game looks. Local co-op on one screen is a must on my budget.
I probably will get a second Switch towards the end of next year for my wife, so we can both play Pokemon and as a way to just get another two joycons. I just don't see myself also buying games twice. ( Outside of Pokemon ) Unless there was some massive sale like the Hunble Bundle sales.
@Nikkarin What @Dijita said! You have to use the right-stick cursor, as simply standing in front of the wall won't allow you to choose a place with precision.
I love it but fishing is killing the game for me please fix this Chucklefish.
@Stezimov
Same here, fishing is way to hard. And the mining could have some improvement for me. I don't have enough time to mine 5 levels including fighting.
