Mario and company receive the Media Create results

It's that time of the week for the Media Create charts out of Japan, and there are a few major releases to consider; it's a mix of good and bad news for Nintendo.

To start with the good news, Capcom's Monster Hunter Stories on 3DS is number one for the second successive week; though it's tracking a long way below main series releases, it's still sold respectable numbers. The results get more disappointing as we come to Paper Mario: Color Splash, which came third with just 20,894 sales in its first week. That's well below the launch sales of Paper Mario: Sticker Star on 3DS back in December 2012, which hit 129,054 units. Though there are clear disparities in platforms and levels of hype, it's still a relatively poor outcome for the Wii U title.

Elsewhere in the top 20 there's Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4, PlayStation VR Worlds and a couple of other new releases; results have lifetime sales in brackets.

  1. [3DS] Monster Hunter Stories (Capcom, 10/08/16) – 67,133 (207,736)
