Nintendo Announces Its YouTube Video Challenge Winner

Posted by Thomas Whitehead

They're off to Sundance for a DK project

In recent times Nintendo of America has been running a contest with a number of popular YouTube channels, in which they were challenged to produce videos based on Super Mario 3D World or The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. We featured one of the entries, in which a cat wasn't impressed by the idea of recreating the Mario title in real life.

Plenty of heavily subscribed YouTube creators participated, and Nintendo has selected "The Wind Waker - Hey Ash Whatcha Playin'?" as its winner; it's the work of HAWPOfficial. They now have the opportunity to collaborate with one of YouTube's most successful content creators, Freddy Wong, on a short film inspired by Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze; this will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on 16th January. Nintendo will be appearing at the festival once again, as it has in recent years, hosting invitees in The Nintendo Chalet where they'll be able to play games such as Wii Fit U and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

You can check out the winning video below, while the full list of submissions is available on this page.

Beedle DOES look so sad, it's heartbreaking. Look at how crestfallen he gets when you exit his shop.

You know what would be funny? The youtube bot currently rampaging through videogame related videos on youtube and flagging them for copyright infringement sniffed these out and slapped them with copyright claims. And Nintendo follows through with them. They've got form.

Anyone been hearing about this on Youtube?

Nintendo are special - where other companies urge video makers to dispute the automated flag (and personally release claims when they are notified), Nintendo are proactively reinstating them.

You're a disgrace, Nintendo!

Haha... Ha? Why did this win? The CatCaller video was so much better, and that's the only other one I've seen, which means there have to be at least a FEW videos better than this. Well, that's my opinion at least.

Don't get me wrong, that was hilarious, but how in the world did NINTENDO choose for that one to win? Crazy stuff.

@edhe Nintendo is actually working with YouTubers to fight the bots, which confirms that they are actually against Content ID.

Not very nice. Also it was really hard to make out a lot of what she was saying. Was this really the best?

The double cherry Luigi one should have won over this one.
