Mario Kart 8 Tournament in association with Nintendo Life Terms & Conditions:
1. How to Participate
1.1 To participate in the tournament, you will need a Nintendo Network ID, access to a Wii U console with a connection to the internet and a copy of Mario Kart 8. For details of how to create a Nintendo Network ID please click here.
1.2 The tournament is open to residents of Great Britain only excluding employees and families of the Promotor, its agents or anyone professionally connected with the tournament.
1.3 To participate in the tournament, register your Nintendo Network ID and email address at www.nintendolife.com/mk8. You will receive a 12 digit tournament code reminder 24 hours prior to each heat. Within the Mario Kart 8 online menu on your Wii U console select ‘Tournaments’ and ‘Enter Code’ and enter this 12 digit tournament code: . Once the tournament has been registered with your console you will be ready to start racing. You must register your Nintendo Network ID at www.nintendolife.com/mk8 prior to competing in the tournament to ensure that the Promotor is able to contact you in the event that you qualify for the grand final.
1.4 To be in with a chance of qualifying for a place at the tournament final, participants must complete 16 races during one of the four online heats to be held as follows:
- Heat One – Saturday, 16th August 2014, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm
- Heat Two – Sunday, 24th August 2014, between 2:00pm and 6:00pm
- Heat Three – Saturday, 6th September 2014, between 2:00pm and 6:00pm
- Heat Four – Sunday, 14th September 2014, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm
Participants can join a heat at any time before the closing time. Any races taken part in after the allotted time will not count towards your points total. Before you start racing you will be automatically assigned a randomly selected track and group of racers to compete against. After every four races you will automatically be assigned to a new group of racers and a new track.
1.5 The three participants with the highest points totals at the end of each heat will be invited to compete in a live 12 player grand final to be held at EGX London in Earls Court, London on Saturday 27th September 2014. In the event of a tie, Nintendo Life will contact the relevant participants and ask them to answer a tie-break question.
1.6 Finalists will be contacted by email no later than 3 days after the end of heat four and must confirm their attendance at the grand final by replying no later than 7 days after the end of heat four. In the event that a finalist does not reply by this date or is unable to attend, the next highest points scorer in the relevant heat will be invited to compete in the grand final in their place.
1.7 In the event that a finalist drops out within 48 hours of the final, the number of finalists will be reduced accordingly.
1.8 Accommodation and travel costs for each finalist and one accompanying person attending the grand final, to a maximum value of £250 per finalist, will be covered by the Promoter for the final.
2. Rules of the Tournament
The following tournament rules will apply:

- Engine Size: 150cc
- All items
- All control methods
- Hard CPU
If you are sharing a Wii U and want multiple players to compete and be eligible, you will need to take turns — in single player online — using different Nintendo Network ID logins. To do this, once a player has completed the tournament in their Wii U account a second player wishing to use the same Wii U to compete in the tournament will need to quit the game, switch to their Nintendo Network ID and register for the tournament. Playing in two player split screen online will only allow the main player — the Nintendo Network ID holder — to compete in the tournament.
3.1 The winner of the grand final will receive a boxed copy of every new game published by Nintendo for Wii U which is released in the calendar year following the date of the grand final.
3.2 No cash or other prize alternative is available, in whole or in part, except in the event of circumstances outside of the Promoter’s reasonable control, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute a similar prize of equal or greater value.
4. General Terms
4.1 By entering the tournament, participants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. If you are under 18, you are representing that you have consent from your parents/guardian to enter the tournament in accordance with the terms and conditions.
4.2 Finalists may be required to participate in related publicity with no further recompense.
4.3 The Promoter’s decision is final in all circumstances and no correspondence will be entered into.
4.4. The Promoter reserves the right, in its absolute discretion to remove a participant from the tournament as a result of his/her conduct or otherwise where the promoter feels the integrity of the tournament or the Nintendo brand is or may be compromised in which the participant will be disqualified.
4.5 Additional terms and conditions may apply for the tournament final and if applicable these will be presented to all finalists in advance of the final taking place.
4.6 Participants may be required to provide evidence that the Nintendo Network ID used to register for the tournament belongs to them.
4.7 Access to the internet is required in order to participate in the tournament. The billpayer’s permission should be asked prior to use. The Promotor cannot guarantee uninterrupted or secure access to the tournament.
4.8 In the event of circumstances outside the reasonable control of the Promoter, or otherwise where fraud, abuse, and/or an error (human or computer) affects or could affect the proper operation of the tournament, and only where circumstances make this unavoidable, the Promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the tournament or these terms and conditions, at any stage, but will always endeavour to minimize the effect to participants in order to avoid undue disappointment.
