Yoshis_VGM commented on Genyo Takeda The Likely Choice For Nintendo Pr...:

I've seen a lot of comments here about Takeda's age, but let me just put my opinion in here on this:

Yes, 66 is rather old to helm a company, but if he's in good health and was close to Iwata and understands corporate business, then he should be Iwata's successor. He most likely won't be president as long as Iwata was, but if he can get the NX off the ground and get Nintendo headed towards the following generation (like Iwata did before his passing), that would be good enough.

I do agree that Miyamoto is not the right person to be Nintendo's CEO. His speciality is game design and development and, as had been pointed out numerous times, he doesn't know that much about hardware development and business.

My vote is for Takeda.

@JaxonH Good point bringing up November 22, as that was the day Super Mario 3D World was released in 2013.

Essentially, life moves on. Business continues as usual. Tragedies happen every day (as far as Nintendo is concerned, July 11 could be considered a day of "tragedy" now). 9/11 was indeed tragic, but so were all the other events you listed, and more. So really, @rjejr, it's not a big deal.

@rjejr What does closing Camp Miiverse have to do with Iwata's passing? Everything! That's the whole reason why it was closed, as is so plainly laid out in this article. Nintendo's global president and CEO died, so Nintendo is taking certain actions to mourn his loss and to recover. This just happens to be one of their decisions.

@rjejr I wish people would stop trying to make a conspiracy out of Nintendo releasing a game on September 11. Yes, September 11, 2001 is a tragic day in U.S. history, I do not deny that, but HOW that relates to a VIDEO GAME RELEASE (and a Mario game at that) is beyond me.

Nintendo releases games on Fridays. Super Mario Maker is being released in mid-September worldwide, and that day just happens to be September 11. That's all there is to it. There's no conspiracy or "hidden message" behind it like people are making it out to be.

Nintendo isn't doing anything wrong by canceling Camp Miiverse. I'm sure they'll end up reviving it in August but, at the moment, the company is mourning the loss of their CEO.

I'm not trying to start an argument here at all, but I just don't understand why there's a huge fuss around Nintendo releasing a game on September 11.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Obituary: Satoru Iwata:

I am definitely at a loss for words. I've been at a loss for words ever since I first heard the news.

I first joined the Nintendo fanbase with the Wii and DS. So, for me personally, Mr. Iwata was the only president I knew. He was so likable, so funny, and so personable. I enjoyed listening to him speak in the Nintendo Directs.

I knew he wasn't feeling well, though. It was evident shortly before his surgery last year, especially in the February 2014 Nintendo Direct. After the surgery, however, I thought he was on the road to recovery. He seemed so much happier, so much more cheerful.

The one thing I do truly regret is that the last statement Iwata ever issued was an apology for Nintendo's E3 Digital Event. I feel a true pang of guilt now, knowing that I was one of the people that was angry with Nintendo.

Iwata will be dearly missed. He was such an influential figure to Nintendo and the video game industry as a whole. The news of his death was very sudden and very unexpected; in fact, I'm still trying to process it. I feel like I truly won't accept the fact that he's gone until he won't appear with his bright, smiling face in the next Nintendo Direct. Very saddening indeed.

Rest in peace, Mr. Iwata. I, along with everyone else, will greatly miss you.

Deeply saddened to hear this news. It's been said many times already, but this was very sudden and unexpected. I thought he was on the road to recovery as he seemed much more cheerful in the last few Nintendo Directs he appeared in.

Nintendo and the gaming industry have lost a truly wonderful man today. Rest in peace, Iwata-san.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Nintendo NX Will Avoid The Launch Issues Which...:

All the hate for Iwata here is a little annoying. At least he did the sensible thing and acknowledged that their E3 Digital Event was total crap and issued an apology (I don't care what Reggie says, it was an apology). Reggie is the one that went into full damage control mode and actually tried to DEFEND the Digital Event and all of his PR statements during E3 were either complete bullcrap or blatant lies.

Iwata has at least admitted Nintendo's mistakes. Despite what everyone says, Nintendo DID learn from the 3DS's launch issues, as all of those issues were fixed with the Wii U's launch. The only issue is that in the process of doing that, they created even more problems (a gimped social network, a slow OS, no late launch window game releases, etc.). Hopefully with NX, they'll tackle the woes of both the Wii U and 3DS's launches at the same time.

Iwata answered all of these questions sensibly and thoroughly and, in my personal opinion, truthfully. Had they asked these same questions to Reggie, I bet he would've lied or came up with some wild answers that didn't make any sense. Stop hating on Iwata, he's doing the best he can at the moment.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Nintendo Reportedly Pitched NX To Third Partie...:

@Haiassai If we have any hopes of NX being backwards compatible with the Wii U, they're going to have to bring the GamePad (or a redesigned equivalent) on as a peripheral. I would hope that the NX is backwards compatible with the Wii U, especially with how much Nintendo appears to be shrugging off their current console so early in its lifespan.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Talking Point: E3 Highlighted Nintendo's Devel...:

@Williaint Exactly. I bet the road to the NX's release will be really similar to the Wii U's. At E3 2016 they'll likely reveal the official name and general concept of the console, at E3 2017 they'll unload all the details, and it'll release in the holiday season of 2017 at the earliest. That gives the Wii U another two years on the market...there's still time for some major games to make their way out.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Talking Point: E3 Highlighted Nintendo's Devel...:

It is unfortunate that Nintendo appears to be shrugging away from the Wii U, but that's not what's bothering me. What's bothering me is that people are overexaggerating and making it seem like the NX is releasing tomorrow. It's not - it will be revealed next year and will likely release sometime in 2017.

While Nintendo may be starting to shrug off the Wii U, it's not completely dead yet. There's still several big titles coming (Yoshi, Star Fox, Xenoblade, Zelda) and I'm hoping that Nintendo will pull out at least one more major title before the NX launches. After all, the "road map" image they released during E3 DID say that there were some unannounced Wii U titles in development (why they weren't shown at E3 is just baffling to me).

Essentially, some people still need to calm down. Yes, Nintendo appears to be phasing out the Wii U (and the 3DS, to a lesser extent), but the NX is still a ways off.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Satoru Iwata Didn't Apologise For Nintendo's E...:

I'm not mad at Nintendo anymore, just disappointed. There was a lot of potential for this E3 and they didn't live up to it.

Nintendo fan or not, there is no denying that the quality of the Digital Event was very poor, especially after last year's and the past few Nintendo Directs, all of which have been top-notch quality.

I am rather mad at Reggie now though. Obviously, the reaction to the Digital Event was so strong that Iwata was forced to acknowledge it, apology or not. Reggie is in full damage control and this statement makes him look like a whining toddler. He needs to grow up.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digi...:

Majorly disappointed by this E3, especially after last year's epic presentation. Several reasons why I'm letdown:
-Star Fox was the only exciting/interesting thing there.
-Zelda Wii U was NOT shown, just going to show that they revealed it entirely too early last year.
-The Wii U's Animal Crossing game is NOT an Animal Crossing game, but rather a Mario Party knockoff.
-Nobody wanted a new Mario Tennis.
-No new 3D Mario game! It's the 30th anniversary! I thought for SURE they would announce the next 3D Mario, especially since the EAD Tokyo team has been working on it ever since 3D World released. Super Mario Maker is all fine and dandy, but I wanted an ACTUAL Mario game to go alongside it.
-Where were all the new Wii U announcements that Iwata promised??

Things I did like about the presentation:
-Yoshi's Woolly World and Super Mario Maker have release dates now.
-The Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario crossover looks interesting and was really the only new announcement that caught my eye.

Overall I'm incredibly letdown.

Eh I'd rather not. I've never been particularly fond of Android's OS. When it comes to mobile, I greatly prefer iOS. I'd be very surprised if Nintendo goes this route....but as this is just a RUMOR, I'm simply going to assume that Nintendo is going to develop their on OS, as they always have.

I really appreciate that Nintendo always strives to hit 60fps with their games. Honestly, there isn't that much of a visible difference between 720p and 1080p, but there is a massive difference between 30fps and 60fps. Nintendo deserves a lot of praise for consistently hitting that mark this generation with the Wii U.

I think MANY of us here are forgetting that we could be getting a release date for Yoshi's Woolly World! That game is set to release in the "first half of 2015," which is Spring. I'm actually looking forward to this game.

I also really want to see the New 3DS because I want to get my hands on that for my birthday.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Video: Teens Race and Talk Smack in Mario Kart 64:

It was incredibly funny when karma came back around and bit Ethan in the butt. Still a great episode though, I enjoyed it - it encapsulates the power of Mario Kart to destroy friendships perfectly (ex. Troy and Seth at the end). Hoping they do Mario Kart 8 in the future, I'm assuming they have the game since they have a Wii U and Smash...

@Peach64 Originally saw this in one of the comments on the EG article but it essentially said that the fact that a Wii U game has won EG's GOTY for two years running just goes to show that pure fun and perfected gameplay will always win out in the end.

And I totally agree with that.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's...:

The Wii U gets a solid B from me. I love the system and I redommend it to everyone. The games library, especially in the way of first-party exclusives, gets an A+, easily. But truth be told, the sales are dire, as is the hope third-party support (a hope, I believe, that has been totally destroyed). That being said, the Wii U is still a great console and I'm hoping it will eventually reach decent levels for Nintendo to call it a moderate success. But for now, in my eyes, it's a treasure - people just haven't discovered it yet.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Sony: PS Vita Is Better Than 3DS And The Wii B...:

Okay, the statement about the Vita being better than the 3DS is complete and utter crap - it's nothing more than jealousy that the 3DS holds a 35 million unit lead or so.

But some truth lies in the "Wii brand is a shadow of its former self" statement. Let me just get it out of the way that the Wii U is an incredible gaming system with amazing games and is 100 times better than the original Wii ever was, to me. I'd recommend the Wii U to anyone in a heartbeat. But the facts cannot be denied - the Wii brand name really has slipped away. We're two years into the Wii U's lifespan and people still don't know what it is. And all those people that bought the Wii clearly aren't flocking back to the Wii U. The Wii U is a totally different animal - sure it has every reason to essentially be "Wii 2," as it really is - as much as we hate to admit it - not much more than an upgrade, but at the current time, the Wii U and the Wii are two VASTLY different consoles in terms of the content offered and the gameplay possibilities. Sure we have all the same series that we've always had, but they've evolved, and in some cases, the casual side has started to slip away - the side that defines the Wii name.

Essentially, the Wii U does not live up to the Wii name. That does not mean the Wii U is a bad console - just inappropriately named.

So basically, the first statement from Sony is complete and utter crap, but the second one does hold some relevance.

Yoshis_VGM commented on New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced:

I've had my original 3DS for about three years now and I can tell it's going. The hinge is really loose now and my shoulder buttons sound like they're about to go out. So if this doesn't come until early 2015 in North America like it is in Europe, then I might actually want an upgrade for my birthday in April (given it's released before then.)

I was originally against the idea of Mario Kart 8 DLC, but looking at what's being offered...and just for $12...that's a screaming good deal. That's basically $12 for HALF of a standard Mario Kart game.

I see the GamePad as more of a video game controller (because it is) than a tablet. I could never see using the GamePad as a replacement for my iPod Touch, which I use all the time.

I do love the GamePad and it is an amazing controller with a lot of cool features and capabilities (Off-TV Play and NFC) but I could never see it acting as a tablet. It is a video game controller and nothing else.

I'm happy to hear that he's making a speedy recovery. After hearing a vague "health-related reasons," I figured that it would be a stress-related sickness and he just needed a brief recovery period. I never would've expected that he would've required surgery.

Like others have said, Nintendo really should focus on the single GamePad they have now. I do love the GamePad and it's one of my favorite controllers, but Nintendo's main priority should be capitalizing its potential, not worrying about dual support.

Although, it would be nice if Nintendo started selling extra GamePads in stores. I have three younger siblings and you know how that can be. So far our GamePad has survived (we've had our Wii U since launch) but it's taken several minor beatings (the most extreme would be my accidentally dropping it on the corner of a wooden bench to reach over and turn a lamp on). It would be nice to have a spare GamePad on hand.
