Yoshis_VGM commented on Digital Foundry Puts Splatoon's 60fps Promise ...:

I really appreciate that Nintendo always strives to hit 60fps with their games. Honestly, there isn't that much of a visible difference between 720p and 1080p, but there is a massive difference between 30fps and 60fps. Nintendo deserves a lot of praise for consistently hitting that mark this generation with the Wii U.

I think MANY of us here are forgetting that we could be getting a release date for Yoshi's Woolly World! That game is set to release in the "first half of 2015," which is Spring. I'm actually looking forward to this game.

I also really want to see the New 3DS because I want to get my hands on that for my birthday.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Video: Teens Race and Talk Smack in Mario Kart 64:

It was incredibly funny when karma came back around and bit Ethan in the butt. Still a great episode though, I enjoyed it - it encapsulates the power of Mario Kart to destroy friendships perfectly (ex. Troy and Seth at the end). Hoping they do Mario Kart 8 in the future, I'm assuming they have the game since they have a Wii U and Smash...

Yoshis_VGM commented on Mario Kart 8 Beats Stern Competition To Become...:

@Peach64 Originally saw this in one of the comments on the EG article but it essentially said that the fact that a Wii U game has won EG's GOTY for two years running just goes to show that pure fun and perfected gameplay will always win out in the end.

And I totally agree with that.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's...:

The Wii U gets a solid B from me. I love the system and I redommend it to everyone. The games library, especially in the way of first-party exclusives, gets an A+, easily. But truth be told, the sales are dire, as is the hope third-party support (a hope, I believe, that has been totally destroyed). That being said, the Wii U is still a great console and I'm hoping it will eventually reach decent levels for Nintendo to call it a moderate success. But for now, in my eyes, it's a treasure - people just haven't discovered it yet.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Sony: PS Vita Is Better Than 3DS And The Wii B...:

Okay, the statement about the Vita being better than the 3DS is complete and utter crap - it's nothing more than jealousy that the 3DS holds a 35 million unit lead or so.

But some truth lies in the "Wii brand is a shadow of its former self" statement. Let me just get it out of the way that the Wii U is an incredible gaming system with amazing games and is 100 times better than the original Wii ever was, to me. I'd recommend the Wii U to anyone in a heartbeat. But the facts cannot be denied - the Wii brand name really has slipped away. We're two years into the Wii U's lifespan and people still don't know what it is. And all those people that bought the Wii clearly aren't flocking back to the Wii U. The Wii U is a totally different animal - sure it has every reason to essentially be "Wii 2," as it really is - as much as we hate to admit it - not much more than an upgrade, but at the current time, the Wii U and the Wii are two VASTLY different consoles in terms of the content offered and the gameplay possibilities. Sure we have all the same series that we've always had, but they've evolved, and in some cases, the casual side has started to slip away - the side that defines the Wii name.

Essentially, the Wii U does not live up to the Wii name. That does not mean the Wii U is a bad console - just inappropriately named.

So basically, the first statement from Sony is complete and utter crap, but the second one does hold some relevance.

Yoshis_VGM commented on New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced:

I've had my original 3DS for about three years now and I can tell it's going. The hinge is really loose now and my shoulder buttons sound like they're about to go out. So if this doesn't come until early 2015 in North America like it is in Europe, then I might actually want an upgrade for my birthday in April (given it's released before then.)

Yoshis_VGM commented on Mario Kart 8 DLC Coming In November, Features ...:

I was originally against the idea of Mario Kart 8 DLC, but looking at what's being offered...and just for $12...that's a screaming good deal. That's basically $12 for HALF of a standard Mario Kart game.

I'm down for it. I'll be preordering tomorrow.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Mario Kart 8 Secures Place as Top-Selling SKU ...:

Shouldn't we be getting the quarterly financial result soon? Showing sales as of June 30? I'm excited for that Wii U number.

Overall this is good for Nintendo. Last summer was absolutely horrible for the Wii U (remember that? 160,000 units in three months?) so it's nice to see the console pulling through this summer strong.

I see the GamePad as more of a video game controller (because it is) than a tablet. I could never see using the GamePad as a replacement for my iPod Touch, which I use all the time.

I do love the GamePad and it is an amazing controller with a lot of cool features and capabilities (Off-TV Play and NFC) but I could never see it acting as a tablet. It is a video game controller and nothing else.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Satoru Iwata Recovering From Surgery To Remove...:

I'm happy to hear that he's making a speedy recovery. After hearing a vague "health-related reasons," I figured that it would be a stress-related sickness and he just needed a brief recovery period. I never would've expected that he would've required surgery.

In any case, I'm glad he's recovering well and I'm looking forward to seeing him once again in the next Nintendo Direct.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Shigeru Miyamoto Confirms That Dual GamePad Su...:

Like others have said, Nintendo really should focus on the single GamePad they have now. I do love the GamePad and it's one of my favorite controllers, but Nintendo's main priority should be capitalizing its potential, not worrying about dual support.

Although, it would be nice if Nintendo started selling extra GamePads in stores. I have three younger siblings and you know how that can be. So far our GamePad has survived (we've had our Wii U since launch) but it's taken several minor beatings (the most extreme would be my accidentally dropping it on the corner of a wooden bench to reach over and turn a lamp on). It would be nice to have a spare GamePad on hand.

All I really want is a cloud system now. The last thing I want is to lose 3D World and Mario Kart 8 should my system die, since I have those games downloaded. Otherwise the Wii U OS is perfect in my eyes.

Oh yeah, and more stability. ;)

I can see why Nintendo would be reluctant to jump into the virtual reality realm, especially after what happened with the Virtual Boy. I foresee them waiting it out for now and maybe jumping into the virtual reality realm once Oculus and/or Morpheus release so that they can see how they impact sales.

Yoshis_VGM commented on First Impressions: Solving the Puzzle of Capta...:

@unrandomsam The thing that makes Mario Kart games worth the full price is the replay value. Mario Kart games have some of the highest replay value because of online. Because of the replay value, Mario Kart is worth the full price. That and the fact that the courses are impeccably designed and the gameplay is perfect.

Yoshis_VGM commented on First Impressions: Solving the Puzzle of Capta...:

I'm really happy that Nintendo decided to develop this game. I loved these levels in 3D World and I'm really glad they decided to flesh it out. Looking forward to the next trailer where they'll hopefully show more new concepts. As for the price, I doubt it will be a full $60. That's just a placeholder price on Amazon. $40 or $50 sound more likely. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to it!

Yoshis_VGM commented on First Impressions: Enjoying the Craft of Yoshi...:

@rjejr I think maybe Nintendo learned their lesson about showing a game for the first time too early. We've known about the new Zelda game since at least last E3, but they said it wasn't ready to be shown off, so they waited until this E3 to show the new footage.

Yoshis_VGM commented on E3 2014: Reggie Fils-A-Mech Does Battle With S...:

@Dr_42o Why? Only Nintendo would try to have fun at E3. All the other companies are too uptight trying to prove which console is better and it's honestly getting old. E3 is supposed to be a place where we all have fun playing newly announced games, and who says Nintendo can't get in on the fun too? No need to be embarrassed. ;)

Yoshis_VGM commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's GamePad Bet Could Pa...:

After owning a Wii U for 18 months, I can say that the GamePad is an awesome controller and I still love it to this day. Sure it hasn't been utilized much yet, but I can see the potential, especially after this E3, where the majority of the games made intuitive use of the GamePad.

I also love some of the GamePad's uses outside of games too. I especially love using it with Amazon Instant Video. I love that it gives me brief bios on the actors and tells me who is on screen at any given time.

Off-TV Play is a real selling point for the GamePad. I've made use of it several times and it allows me to lie in my bed and play games while my siblings watch a DVD on the TV.

On top of all of this, the GamePad is probably one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever held. My thumbs naturally rest on the analog sticks and my fingers naturally rest on the shoulder buttons. The grips on the back fit perfectly in my hands, enhancing the comfortability of the controller.

Overall, I love the GamePad. It's comfortable, intuitive, and full of potential. I can't wait to see how it's utilized in future games and I can't imagine a Wii U without the GamePad.

Yoshis_VGM commented on E3 2014: LA Times Reveals Hot Scoop of New Whi...:

Whoever wrote that article makes me want to cringe. I'm a high school journalist and it is so blatantly obvious that this reporter doesn't know how to research. But this is absolutely hilarious too.

Also, the whole Nintendo Splatoon thing is poorly worded. They make it seem like Splatoon is the name of the console. They should've made it clearer that Splatoon was actually the game.

Lastly, why must there be a winner of E3? Does it really matter? (referring to the " Sony wins" section)

Yoshis_VGM commented on E3 2014: Yoshi's Woolly World Details Revealed...:

So happy they finally released details on this game. It looks fantastic! Looks way better than New Island and I'm ever hoping that's true.

Also, the E3 website for this game says that it will launch in the first half of 2015. Thought you guys would like to know, in case you didn't see!

Yoshis_VGM commented on E3 2014: Ubisoft Admits to Holding Back Comple...:

I give him props for being honest, but he should realize that Smash Bros. is not a major system seller. Mario Kart is the major system seller. So far, it's managed to maintain good sales. Only time will tell if those sales will keep up.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Feature: Our Hopes and Dreams for E3 2014:

I'm trying very hard to keep my expectations low. What I really want to see from this E3 is Yarn Yoshi. Please Nintendo, it's time to show that game off.

Elsewhere in my little dream world that I'm trying not to get my hopes up for, this small list exists:
-A new Paper Mario on Wii U...a PROPER Paper Mario. Or, alternatively, TTYD HD
-A new Luigi's Mansion on Wii U. And have Next Level Games develop it; they did a fantastic job with Dark Moon
-A proper Wii Sports sequel, perhaps?
-More HD games from the GameCube or the N64

I know that the Tokyo EAD team is working on the next 3D Mario game already. I feel like it's too soon to show it off, but if they DO choose to show it tomorrow, it better NOT be Galaxy 3 and it better NOT be Sunshine 2. In fact, it shouldn't be a sequel at all — it's due time for a completely original 3D Mario game.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Guide: Everything Nintendo Fans Need to Follow...:

I'm excited! Naturally I'm keeping my expectations low so that I won't be overly disappointed if they don't announce some of the games I want.

What I really want to see from this E3 is Yarn Yoshi. Nintendo keeps listing that game in their quarterly reports and it's still listed to be released this year. I really hope they show it because those 6 seconds of gameplay footage last January showed a lot of potential.

Yoshis_VGM commented on Feature: Our Top 10 Wii U Retail Games - Summe...:

Okay, I seriously love Mario Kart 8 and I love the Mario Kart series. But Super Mario 3D World is still, by far and away, my favorite Wii U game. It is absolute platforming perfection, the levels are bursting with creativity, the power-ups are fantastic, and the game in general is a masterpiece. A perfect 10/10 in my book.
