Tchia (Switch eShop)
Bursting with charm and colour, Tchia's New Caledonian influence is worn proudly on its sleeves. Launching on PlayStation and PC over a year ago, we're finally getting our hands on some island gliding, soul-hopping, and wholesome adventuring when Tchia arrives on Switch on 27th June.

Demonschool (Switch eShop)
We only had a small taste of what Demonschool is all about in our preview in late 2022, but much like its big chompy demon, we're hungry for more. The Persona-like school downtime and the Buffy-esque feeling of being the only ones who can stop the demonic chaos invading our town is enough to get us feeling nostalgic for the 2000s, but the blend of snappy tactics, original visual style, and modern, witty writing has us looking forward to its release in Q2 2024.

Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door is the only game on my wishlist for next year tbh. I played and beat Dark Moon on 3DS (a last gen console) so I feel no need to repurchase it. TTYD I don't own an OG copy so I'm looking to get it~
Welp looks like next year will be a great one for switch for me. A bunch of these games are on my shortlist for purchase. Also I’m still missing many of the major releases from 2023 as well so I will have plenty to play.
Peach, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Apollo Justice Trilogy, and of course, Another Code.
Not a huge amount to look forward to, but nothing to scoff at either. Another Code's Wii sequel never made it to Australia either, so it'll be new to us as well (though the European release is import friendly).
I hope to at least finally complete the original DS game after all of these years in anticipation of the remake. I feel silly for not playing it so much sooner as it was one of very few mature games early in the DS's life, and the game is fairly short and linear.
It would also be really neat if Mario vs. Donkey Kong comes with a level editor (I'm not sure whether or not that had been confirmed).
Looking forward to the RPGs for this year! Eiyuden Chronicles in particular is hype, fingers crossed it lives up to it.
Honestly, the only game I am looking forward to get is Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD.
Despite 2023 being an absolute banger in terms of new releases, I didn't end up being interested in all too much from the year myself outside of Ghost Trick HD and GB/GBA NSO (though I do have games like Pikmin/Baten Kaitos 1+2 and Advance Wars Reboot Camp in the backlog ready to go for next year).
2024 however is a much different story; Apollo Justice Trilogy, Another Code Recollection, Paper Mario TTYD HD and DecaPolice (plus maybe Metroid Prime 4 as the year's holiday title if we really want to get our hopes up XD) are all titles that I'm almost guaranteed to be getting either on release or before the year's end. Couple all that with more retro purchases like the Metroid Prime Trilogy, most of the PS1 Resident Evil's and the entire Professor Layton series and I think 2024 is going to be a very good year for me indeed 😊
There are around 7 to 8 games on the list that have really piqued my interest. Considering the time I've been dedicating to gaming, that's pretty much a good number to virtually fill my year. Of course there will be a retro replay here and there. There's always time for that!
I am tempt to pre-order Princess Peach, but with the amount I spent this month it will have to wait to January or Feb.
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time looks interesting too.
Don’t forget Trails Through Daybreak! Although I will wait and see what the Japanese release looks like on Switch before getting too excited…
How about Pepper Grinder? Or Penny's Big Breakaway?
2024 has a lot to look forward to already
Nothing in my wislist but I wait for the new nintendo gen !!
Another Code Recollection
Princess Peach Showtime
And… Paper Mario.
I'll also consider the Tomb Raider trilogy if a physical release surfaces. Otherwise, I'll spring for the PC release (as I hope to grab a handheld PC in the near future).
Eesh definitely the death knell for the Switch. Remasters mostly. Ah well, reckon this might finally be the year for the new console.
Unicorn overload looks really great.
A fair amount to look forward to in 2024 on Switch, though the only game I want day one is the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remake. Trails Through Daybreak and Apollo Justice - Ace Attorney Trilogy will be close to launch though. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam would be on the list too if it hadn't been pushed to 2025.
Other games I'm keeping an eye on are Another Code: Recollection (love the wordplay here), Unicorn Overlord, and Princess Peach: Showtime. I'm either not fully convinced or am waiting awhile with these though.
@John_Deacon
*piqued my interest
Hoping for Monoliths next IP in 2024. Dragon Quest 12 would be icing on the cake.
No UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II [Sys:Celes] in this list?! That's criminal!
Only things really on my radar at the moment are Another Code, Thousand-Year Door, Touch Detective, and Ace Attorney.
Peach game is kind of a maybe, but I need to see more of it and what has been shown so far hasn't done it for me.
No mention of Dark Forces? 😢
Metroid Prime 4 (Hopefully)
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution
Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn
At this point it’s more likely that someone will be 100% finished with GTA6 before we even get at least a trailer for Metroid Prime 4.
There are two days in 2024 ALREADY that have two must-play games on the same day
January 19th with Another Code/POP and April 23rd, with Tales of Kenzara/Eiyuden Chronicles.
I am very pleased
Prince of Persia, Ubisoft nailed that one👍
I am also interested in another code.
Peach also looks interesting.
Not really interested in much for Switch in 2024 outside TTDY and Decapolice. Could change as Nintendo can easily just drop a bunch of games in a Direct in February. I'm not too fussed if the Switch line up is smaller in 2024 cause I got a ton of PS5 games coming out in the first quarter and if we do get Switch 2 that should have some nice releases lined up. Plus I still got 2023 Switch titles to catch up on
Call me a conspiracy theorist but I believe Silksong will release. Maybe not this decade, century, or millenium, but it will be there.
Also Peach because we need games with female protags!
@Uncle_Franklin that's right, Uncle! Thanks for that
Have so much fun time with my switch but we all knows this year was last good year for switch
Honestly kind a lot of stuff there I’m interested in. Another Code, Ace Attorney, Paper Mario, the Princess Peach game, and then a number of the other more indie flavored titles… I can already see that I’ll be buying plenty of Switch games in 2024! But the million dollar question is… will I also be buying a new Nintendo console???
Nothing much to look forward to since it’s all ports or remakes and the peach game doesn’t look like it’s for me. Just release the switch 2 already Nintendo
It’s just the remasters for me going on announced releases only from Nintendo.
Prince of Persia
Mario vs DK
Luigi mansion 2 HD
Paper Mario TYD
SO it’s ok ish, but hoping for Switch 2 sooner in the year than later and a big release or 2 from Nintendo on Switch 2 release date.
I think leaving Switch 2 until October, November 2024 is a little mistake from Nintendo and March, April 2024 would be far better and keep Nintendo more relevant and enable some good third party releases day one for Switch 2 as well, like RDR2 or RE4 remake as it will have the power to handle those games.
The original Switch is still catered for with all those remakes I mentioned above.
Another Code, Mario vs DK, Peach, Luigi's Mansion, Decapolice, Paper Mario and Metroid for me!
I'll get a few others (Ace Attorney, Tomb Raider, maybe a couple of others) for PS5.
Paper Mario TTYD HD, Another Code and Peach Showtime are on my list to buy in 2024. The Unicorn Overlord game does look interesting so it's also on my radar.
Honestly I'm kinda ok with Nintendo having a bit more of a quiet year to start since I need to get through my backlog of games.
Silksong, The Plucky Squire, and Mina the Hollower are the big titles here for me. I’d have put Penny’s Big Breakaway in this feature though too. Sort of a weak year, in my opinion… at least thus far. Yes, there are some strong games here, but I’m burnt out of buying games I’ve bought before. It looks like there’s more remakes and remasters than new games…
I’m curious about Princess Peach, but I sort of want to wait for reviews or previews at least to see more about what it is.
Remasters and indie games. Peach is the only new 1st party game. the next gen must surely be coming in september if not guess ill catxh up on movies ive missed, because 24 really looks dry...
Not much for me, silk song and metroid prime 4 are my wants whenever they come out if ever. I guess Prince of Persia and where is Hades 2 on the list (im probably just blind)?
Not a great looking year tbh, but some of these could be really great surprises. Unicorn Overlord DecaPolice are the most interesting and the rest are toss ups if I’ll get them or not.
Supposedly Another Crab's Treasure and Penny's Big Breakaway are Q1 2024. South Park Snow Day is a high profile release too.
Ruffy And The Riverside?
Is this game still expected on Switch? They had a pretty in-depth looking trailer last summer(?) and it said "Winter 2023..or perhaps later" or something cheeky like that.
Looked like an interesting little game.
From the list only Paper Mario and Silksong for me...but I'm also really looking forward to Little Kitty Big City.
Wasn't the Tsukihime remake announced for switch for a 2024 release?
Mario vs. DK, Peach, Paper Mario, Luigi and Shantae for me so far. But where's Little Kitty, Big City on here?
I'm gearing up for 2024 being the year I finally take my little backlog seriously (especially if that much ballyhooed Switch NG launches) so I'm perfectly okay with a quieter year, thank you very much.
Hollow Knight Silksong in 2024? That's just silly.
Got that Unicorn Overlord Super Duper Giga Edition on the pre order. Here's hoping it sparks interest in a new Ogre Battle from those squares at Square!
Great list! I'm just missing Little Nightmares 3 and Penny's Big Breackaway. Hopefully Dragon Quest 3 and Ys X too, but they haven't been confirmed (Hollow Knight either though).
For now, I can't wait for:
1- Fantasy Life 2
2- Paper Mario TTYD
3- Metroid Prime 4
4- The Plucky Squire
5- Eiyuden Chronicles
6- Decapolice
7- Prince of Persia
8- Princess Peach
9- Suikoden 1&2
10- Little Nightmares 3
11- Mina the Hollower
12- Unicorn Overlord
Another fantastic year is coming!
The Thousand Year Door's remake is #1 on my list. The Peach game might be neat, too! Sadly, I don't foresee having money for games this year. =(
I hadn't heard of the Inkulinati game and I had to watch the trailer because I quite like the medieval illuminated manuscript aesthetic, even when it gets really strange - and it does. The crassness I can say I could do without, but that actually exists in real illuminated manuscripts, so it's not necessarily out of line for them to include that.
I think that the style has always been ripe for using in a game. I'm not sure this one's gameplay is for me, but it's fun to see.
@iBashar141 same
There's already a lot of great looking titles coming out next year, especially for Mario fans like me. Paper Mario: TTYD tops them all.
@BodkinDQ Same, to me Luigi's Mansion 2 was disappointing, didn't even bother finishing it. They just can't capture that same eerie atmosphere from the first one at all.
Looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 and The Plucky Squire, with the latter probably rather on PS5.
And where is Thank Goodness You’re Here?
Most of those are either insta-downloads or "wishlistable and pending reliable reviews". I estimate around 65-75% of the games in this article. Argh, my wallet in 2024.
I'm planning to spend more time with the PS5 in 2024. FF7 and Star Wars Outlaws are my highlights. Switch needs new hardware, which may or may not come in 2024, but I'm happy just waiting to be honest. I feel like I've had my fill of amazing Switch experiences and really don't need anything in 2024. Roll on the new era I say.
1. Metroid Prime 4
2. Silksong
3. Mina the Hollower
4. Paper Mario TTYD
5. Unicorn Overlord
6. Laika
7. Metal Slug Tactics
8. Decapolice
9. The Plucky Squire
Those are just the ones on this list that are highly awaited from me. Sounds like we're feasting next year once again. Crazy, if you consider this to be the twilight years from a seven year old console!
Really looking forward to these ones:
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
Decapolice
The Plucky Squire
Planet of Lana
Also really hoping for a localisation of Mameda No Bakeru which is developed by Good-Feel, as I love the Goemon series and they've always made such high quality games.
Only Silksong, Mina, The Plucky Squire and Demon school interest me which is great news for myself.
With this likely being the final full year before switch 2, it gives me time to go back and finish my backlog and maybe even replay a few favourites. I wouldn't even be mad if the four games I'm looking forward too get delayed for the switch 2.
Switch 2? The only game on the list for me are the remakes and prime 4
Already way too many games I'm interested in playing even excluding those that I'd like to eventually replay - Mario vs. Donkey Kong being an exception, I've played it but never finished it so it's among those I'd like to play as soon as possible along with TTYD "just" because it's one of my favorite games of all time and it's been a while since I played it (unlike the Ace Attorney games for example) - and so little time in comparison!
@Sisilly_G Nope and that's a great feature later games in the series had, would be awesome to have it for this remake and so for this gameplay style!
For those that don't know, the gameplay of this Mario vs. Donkey Kong is vastly different compared to its sequels, it's practically the same as Donkey Kong on the Game Boy (which I can't recommend enough by the way)!
The games I'm looking forward to on this list are the Princess Peach one and the Mario thousand year door one sounds interesting.
I still hope for any news of Hatsune Miku Boxing in the west....
Arzette feels like a notable omission as a spiritual successor to arguably the most infamous games using Nintendo IP. More glaring, though, is the lack of Penny's Big Breakaway. Genuinely my most anticipated game of 2024 right now.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes for sure (b ' : ' )b
Actually, my most anticipated thing in 2024 isn't even a game but DLC. It's Side Order in Splatoon 3. It's going to be amazing.
I just want "Princess Peach Showtime" and "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door".
Ok, I am going to be brutally honest here, not counting re-Makes for once: I can barely name 5.
Even counting re-Makes: Dark Moon HD for likely $60 is really pushing even my limits and I loved Dark Moon and am thrilled they've re-done it(!)
Come on Nintendo, please. I know 2023 was a bit of a bumper year - but really TOtK should have been a 2022 release , so it's was really only Pikmin 4, the big DLCs, a 2D Mario (instead of the 2nd big 3D one rumored - or simply that Wonder was not in full 3D, just imagine if it was, I'd have given Nintendo a free pass this Year lol!) - and of course the re-Makes.
And even though I don't want to, I know this will sadly hurt many ppl's feelings but Princess Peach is not 'that game' guys. Lets not pretend the 1st Lady suddenly went all Yoshi's world and got her own 3D adventure, her own 'Mario 64'. Most of it looks like yet another 2.5D side-scroller and I'm tired of this laziness by Nintendo now.
It's not going to melt your console Nintendo to make her adventure in full 3D with a nice full world and Adventure mode to go with it. Jeeeez! What ever happened to bona-Fide titles like Starlink and Astral Chain??
The Switch rather could be called the 2017 Game Boy at this rate!
gta6 comes out in 2025 , and already there are 3 massive AAA blockbuster games lined up for the PC (3 big PC original IPs) in Dragon's Dogma 2 (curiously, the Original game was also ported to the Switch!) , Star Wars Outlaws and Stalkker 2.
So yea, as if there's not enough Competition this year(!)
One game I would note is missing here is AntonBlast, the throwback to GBA-era platformers that pretty clearly wears its Wario Land 4 inspiration on its sleeve. While no release date or even window has been given yet, the devs have said they're shooting for a 2024 release date and if the Steam demo I've played is any indication, this will for sure be a game for anyone like me who has been starved for a new Wario Land game.
Also of what's not listed here, pretty excited that Freedom Planet 2 will finally be Switch-bound this year.
Paper Mario TTYD is a game I've never played so this one is definitely what I am most excited about
metroid prime 4 is entering Duke Nukem Forever territory.
@canaryfarmer
that's the one I'm waiting for. supposed to come out late febuary I think
I'm curious, why didn't Eyuiden Chronicles not get a link to the physicals? It got banished to "eshop".
Did I miss MH stories from the list?
A decent number of these (among the most anticipated) will likely not release this year.
You said “Buffy-esq” about Demonschool and now my interest is piqued.
Also, now I really really really want a new Buffy game…. Preferably action rpg or Metroidvania. Ugh… 😭
34 of them being third party or remakes. Making this lineup look better than it actually is. Bottom line this is probably going to be a near empty year for Nintendo, especially if you're a fan of first party.
Death Trick: Double Blind and Ace Combat 7 for me (probably - depends on the price tag).
@card-crunch78 you and me too
Contra (Remake) and seeing those probotector in the game, was pure nostalgia.
Played the demo, loved every part of it, the og music and gameplay, local Coop. Amazing. And how hard it is again to even finish it lol.
Thats the only game i am going to buy.
The only games on my radar for this year are...
Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
Princess Peach: Showtime!
Contra: Operation Galuga
The Plucky Squire
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (obviously)
Fairune: Fragment Isles (PC only, but it has to come to Switch, especially since all of the previous games have been on 3DS and Switch)
The lack of respect for Gundam Breaker 4 is sad to say the least.
You forgot to add Little Nightmares 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Super Monkey Ball, Ender Magnolia and Megaton Musashi.
What a fantastic year!
My day one games (apart from Prince of Persia and Pentiment) are for sure Fantasy Life i, Ys X Nordics, Metroid Prime 4 and Paper Mario. Perhaps many more, if they turn out well (Unicorn Overlord, Eiyuden Chronicles, Epic Mickey, Plucky Squire...)
Princess Peach Showtime and Paper Mario TTYD Remaster are my Day One choice.
Something I think that really sells Berserker Boy, and one of the main reasons I'm getting it is because Tee Lopes is doing the soundtrack. Guy pretty much single handedly wrote my study music and I'm excited for the new game but especially the tunes.
Love the questions at the end! You might want to add my favorite question: When is wipEout 64 coming to Switch with it's much vaunted 120fps mode? Answer: Get a life you frame rate jerk!
I would add A Void Hope from Elden Pixels (Alwa's Awakening, Alwa's Legacy). Due out 29 February 2024.
I didn't like:
I'm eagerly awaiting:
I might try:
I will get it, but only when it is discounted by half or more:
@120frames-please
I'd like 1080° in 1080p!
@CharlieZee ...didn't I make that post a long time ago?
@Spider-Kev 1080 is on NSO, and it's great, but it would be awesome at 60fps or higher. I think it's at 720p, maybe even 1080 in docked, I'm not sure
Backlog it is. So many great games released in previous years to play yet, so I guess that's fine.
@Spider-Kev Also, I'd like 1080 at 1080fps at 1080p!
Battlefront, Generation and Thousand Year Door looking interesting for me!
Thanks for posting this again! It’s a good reminder that there still are some great games coming this year. Really looking forward to a lot of the Japanese titles coming out this year, plus Rift of the Necrodancer.
Pizza Tower…where art thou??? There’s a good bit I’m awaiting for on this list, contra, peach, paper Mario, Luigi’s mansion, Metroid prime 4, and monkey ball. But pizza tower, could’ve been one for sure.
