I dont understand why there aren`t demos for every WiiWare game... it`d be very helpful.

Just for you.

If they gave us demos of the terrible games people would never buy them. Still there are a lot of good games they haven't given us demos for.

I'm glad that Nintendo decided to bring demos back. I'm tempted to try Cave Story.

Tempted? Just download it. It conviced me to buy it while I was really skeptical about this game and all the hype around it.

Curious to see which demo Europe get's this week.

NA has

  • DEMO - and yet it moves
  • DEMO - lilt line (NA ONLY)
  • DEMO - Frobot (NA ONLY)

EU has

  • DEMO - Furry Legends
  • DEMO - Zombie Panic in Wonderland
  • DEMO - Chronos Twins DX
  • DEMO - Robox
  • DEMO - art of balance
  • DEMO - Dive: The Medes Islands Secret

Since EU has no "and yet it moves" demo this has high chances.
And maybe a second game like the other week.

Or maybe a demo to one of the three officially announced WiiWare games:

2010-12-31 Bejeweled 2 (Engine Software / PopCap Games) WW - 1000pts
2010-12-31 Heavy Fire: Special Operations (Teyon) WW - 500pts
2010-12-31 Magic Destiny Astrological Games (Shanblue Interactive) WW - 500pts

A demo for Bejeweled 2 or Heavy Fire would be nice.

Okay, so I've been collecting and looking over each demo as they come out to see how they compare to the full games and whatnot.

And Yet it Moves - Shows 2.5 levels throughout the game and even has a video trailer at the end. Quite possibly the best demo of the launched demos because it shows off a good chunk of what the game offers.
BIT.TRIP FATE - Shows 2 levels, sans 2nd boss. As the game is slow and yet fast in pacing, the demo might actually make less people interested in it than before.
Jett Rocket - 1 level. Really flippin' small for a demo, but it succeeds in being a tease for the full game, despite its small nature.
ThruSpace - 1 level for 2 of the keystones. Good for a demo to allow gamers to try out the controls and see just what the heck the game is about.
Cave Story - Two or so of the areas. Gives multiple difficulties and all graphic/music options, so those into Cave Story can have a look-see at what the WiiWare version has.
Fluidity - Tutorial and 3 Rainbow Drops. The scope of the game is revealed through this demo, really helping to sell the 1200 point price.
lilt line - Tutorial and ~4 tracks. Super fast to complete, and it doesn't get difficult until later, which might lead some to consider the game too easy.
Frobot - 2 levels and a multiplayer map. Good to show how the character works at full power and introducing the game's concept. Might demonstrate the game's unevenness, though.
Max and the Magic Marker - 1 level, the tutorial of sorts. Done before players can really have a chance to get into the game.

Now that we're over a month into demos, I can say that it benefited some games but not others.
1. Jett Rocket reappeared on the Top 20 since its demo debut. Demo certainly helped!
2. The other 3 demo launches have not appeared. AYIM is cheaper on PC, FATE's demo might give too much of the game away, and ThruSpace is a weird controlling puzzle game.
3. Cave Story is back in the Top 20, even if it dropped out only a couple months ago. Demo helped.
4. Fluidity is No. 1 and has been for a few weeks. Nintendo Week coverage may have helped, along with the demo.
5. lilt line is in the Top 20, albeit in the lower section. Demo could have benefited the game, hard to tell.
6. Frobot not on Top 20. Perhaps demo gave the game a "slow" feel which did more harm than good.
7. Max just came out, so we'll have to see. I bet it doesn't help too much, as the demo is terribly short.

So we get a demo of Bit. Trip Beat. No clue why, probably for those who might have missed it.

I really wanted a RUNNER one too
I've been on the fence about that for ages, I want to try it out first though

I didn't like it at all. I didn't even bother finishing the demo.

Yeah I thought Max's demo was a bit short.

Two other things.
How does Bit.Trip Fate control with CCPro
and I think WiiWare should have way more demos along the lines of Xbox live or PSN style.
They have a ton of demos.

Robox is terribly disappointing to me. It has the artstyle, the music, and certainly the premise. How can it hurt so bad? D:

Movement is too slow for it to have much of an impact.
Three hitpoints does not work when you have enemies with many more than that.
Dropping enemies on top of you with no hint of their arrival is a no-go.
The Inside-Robox sections I played seemed a bit...confusing. Best to have a tutorial explain it than a few windows of information.
No Map? Seriously? In an open-world game like this? Even the new Blaster Master has one.

In short, it feels slow, too difficult, and too complex for the beginning of the game. I hope they can produce something with that same style and flesh out the gameplay...because out of everything, that's what they missed.

Urbanix over here is the new EU demo.

Horrid. Faux-3D Qix clone offering nothing new at all.

Yeah, wasn't even a little bit impressed with Urbanix. Glad I bought Ghost Mania.

Art of Balance demo has quite a bit of length to it. Made me still want to get it, so that's good.

Oh, and Max and the Magic Marker has been spotted in the Top 20, so the demo DID benefit the game, despite its exceedingly short length. No sign of Frobot or Robox though.

Well Qix isn't on the VC yet. Its not a patch on Qix but I enjoyed the Urbanix demo. Its a unashamed rip-off yes, but there's nothing really fundamentally wrong with it.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I bought Art of Balance shortly after playing the demo. The game is pretty awesome, the brilliant concept and lovely presentation combine to make the game addictive, challenging, and relaxing to play at the same time! I'm just worried that it'll be over too quickly.

Urbanix might be just a Qix clone in comic look, but it seems to be better and cheaper than Critter-Round up. And it has a good 2 player splitscreen mode. The only gripe I have with the game is the zoomed in camera perspective. Can't see far into the lower part where enemies could be. Can the camera be changed?

There's a neat Qix clone available on Japan WiiWare:

  • Jintori Action! TAIKOKENCHI Karakuri Shiro no Nazo (C) 2009 Perpetuum Game

That's the main issue I have, the camera makes it unplayable for me.
