What a cool looking game. Some new stuff some rehashed stuff but looks like fun. I'm not finished the first one yet but I just started it last month. Almost done. In some ways I liked the old level select but this one you don't have to go running around just to get to the next galaxy which is a bit of a waste of time. I'd rather see something a bit more like NSMBW/Mario World/Mario 3 but since this is space it kind of makes sense why it's just floating galaxies in space.
looks pretty awesome. i must say i'm not caring so much about the new power or select screen layout as i am the music. man, i'm glad they went orchestral... i do hope we CN members get a crack at the new soundtrack eventually, if not the old one D:

yup new level select wins imo. Having to run around a mostly-empty/pointless hub to go into levels was my least favorite part about SMG--honestly didn't do much for me in mario 64 either

I can not wait any longer for this game. The new power up is going to be awesome! I really would have preferred the old way of going to leves, but it doesnt matter that much. Yoshi is gonna rock this game!

I love the fact that they ditched Mario's Starbit reticule Shooter. Collecting Star bits in the first game was just too easy, not to mention shooting starbits at enemies(while cool at first, and fun) even made the game easier if you abused it. And it was annoying since it was always on screen. the new NSMBWii-like Map is such a big improvement, although design wise it looks a tad generic. But navagation wise it will be so much easier and faster. And is it me, or does this game look more earthy than the first? I love the bright blue cloud filled sky in some of the footage, and you gotta love that Rock power up. And the fact that Yoshi is in this makes it all the more sweeter. I have a feeling this game will beat out the first, cant wait! I hope it's more challenging too....
I enjoy faffing about in a hub. If I have to travel a little to get to a level, I don't mind one bit and will just find new and amusing ways of doing so. You don't know how boring I'm gonna find running forward and jumping on a button having done it fifty times.3D Mario is a toy to me, one I like playing and experimenting with, a large open space for me to play in and look at the stars will be missed.
Rock Mario though? Is a very nice surprise.
edit: Scrub that, it actually looks like there's quite a bit to do on Mario's Head. I'll just take the scenic route to the button. Yay!
Mario 64's castle was very memorable with lots of secrets to find, especially in the DS version. Deflino Plaza was less memorable, though Yoshi made it a lot of fun regardless. But Galaxy's hub was just an empty boring space ship thing that was a pure waste of time until the flying cap, which would have made an empty room fun, so it's still nothing to say about the hub itself. If they're not going to put effort into it, I'd rather the map instead. Maybe in Galaxy 3 they'll make a hub that's actually fun again and include an optional quick select.
Also, no star bit shooting? I hadn't noticed that. Good riddance.
