Well I'm not going to act all childish about it. Seriously, I really and truly hoped it'd be called nothing more than 'Nintendo'. Still, now that they've got 'Wii U' I wish they'd simply have named it 'Nintendo U'. Anyway, the new console and it's controller have me excited and that's all that matters. People commonly called the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) 'Nintendo' and I'm going to call the Wii U 'Nintendo U'.
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I got used to it already, telling like 50 people about it. Udrawtable... WiiU? Anyways... You can only use one controller at a time so that's good you don't need to worry about buying more. The rest can use Wiimote and for whoever was talking about FPS you can still use that and the nunchuk.
I'm so pleasantly surprised by the sytem I don't care what they call it really. Hcore will buy it, as will the noobs. Best of both worlds. Do want. xD
Actually I disagree with you man. I am like a staple for what Nintendo wants back in their home console gaming. I literally adore Nintendo's handhelds and was an hour early for the 3DS release out of pure excitement - not because they couldn't fill their preorders, as I still would have gotten mine even if I showed up late. Gamecube disappointed me to no end because it did the same thing that the PS2/Xbox were doing, but with less 3rd party support and a few good Nintendo titles. Wii was captivating, it was a new experience that was unlike any other, and while the casual push did drive me away after a few years (I still own a Wii, but rarely play it) the Wii is pure Nintendo throughout.
This Wii U (horrible, horrible name) looks to be a Gamecube 2. When Nintendo was approached about if the system could run Battlefield 3, it was dismissed quickly. No Modern Warfare 3 announcement, No Mass Effect 3 announcement (which would greatly benefit from the additional screen), etc. Maybe they are coming, but this conference and Wii U announcement felt rushed and did nothing for the gamers that they wanted to return to Nintendo as a home console. Look around the internet and you will find that Nintendo fans aren't overly happy and this system is being laughed at by most others.
I'm not happy typing any of this. I wanted to see a Wii 2, better motion control, way more power to stop the dumbed down third-party titles, etc. Instead most are still baffled as to what this think actually is, and lots of people thought that the controller was an add-on to the Wii! It felt like a poor, rushed presentation that left more question than answers, and not in the intriguing way. I really hope that time changes all of this, but I'm really disappointed in what I've seen.

Yes, it is probably the worst name for a console ever (o_o'). The Wii is a bad name to begin with, but adding a U at the end makes it even worse... Oh well, looks pretty cool

I agree with you 100% Slapshot. I was really looking forward to Nintendo's E3 press conference, much more than either Sony or Microsoft but sadly I came away feeling extremely disappointed. I am definitely not sold on the Wii U and that is a first for me because I own every single Nintendo console since the NES. It is still a long time before the Wii U comes out so hopefully Nintendo can turn things around and prove that their new console will be worth getting.
The name is stupid but that third-party line-up was much worse than the name. I felt like I was watching a line-up for a microsoft or sony console, not a nintendo console and I didn't see one game in that line-up that excited me at all. If it wasn't for the new smash bros. I'm not sure I would even be considering getting it right now. This announcement is nowhere near as exciting as the announcement of the 3DS was last year. There were so many awesome games to look forward to for the 3DS when it was announced, both first and third party but its not like that at all this year and the way that they seemed reluctant to show much for it made it seem like it was rushed.
Late to the party here; don't know if this has been said, but I think people will forget the "U" and just start calling it "Wii" or "Wii 2" once it has been out for a few months and the original is off the grid.
"... the way that they seemed reluctant to show much for it made it seem like it was rushed."
Just like the 3DS. But I'm sure the first-party titles will be there. I'd rather have them say nothing than pull a Skyward Sword and have us waiting three years for a game.
The 3DS didn't seem rushed when they showed it last year. There loads of exciting first and third party games announced for it and many of them had trailers and/or gameplay demos. This is not the case with the wii U.
