I think with the right amount of AAA (both 1st and 3rd party) games, advertising the Wii U difference, and momentum well into early 2015 (much like the 3DS did with momentum going from the end of 2011 through 2013) I think the Wii U will create its own niche. Very similar to how the 3DS has done so. I also think Ubisoft, EA, Activision and a few other major third party developers will be working on the system next year. The only thing I see stoping EA would be Microsoft, but the others have nothing lose. After the initial success of both the PS4 and XBONE the sales for the system will dry up faster then they did with the Wii U. Nintendo (if the time Smash IV and Mario Kart 8 right) could beat the pants off the PS4 and XBONE. The PS3 and XB360 will probably outsell all three of the systems, but I think Nintendo can put themselves in a great spot. The 3rd parties however won't cry foul on the XBONE and PS4 they'll all say "oh it will pick up!!" Thats when they all might slink over to Nintendo (or the worst case is they go back to the PS3 and XB360 and make lazy ports for 8 Gen consoles which would hurt everyone). But I don't know what will happen I'll wait till next year before I make the decision on what will happen to the Wii U. I hope things start taking of at the end of the year, don't want my Wii U gather ore dust than games!!!!!!!!!!!

@DefHalan I agree that pubs & devs will continue fine tuning their own online infrastructure. But I believe they want Nintendo to be working on maintaining & updating nintendo's infrastructure. Or were you suggesting that pubs & devs start controlling Nintendo's online infrastructure?

I am saying is that part of the reasoning behind Microsoft charging for Xbox Live was due to the fact that games had dedicated servers that Microsoft supplied. As long as Nintendo provides what they currently do and keep it free then I am fine. If they want to add things like party chat then great but I don't want them to start adding features I have no interest in and start charging me to play games online. That is my main problem with the other consoles. I have been paying for Xbox Live for about 9 years and and Microsoft added a bunch of features I don't care about. I really don't want to pay for online again.

@Ryno I do believe your Off-TV point is valid. But the validity has an experation date. See I believe it's a solution to a problem that is fast going away. If your an avid enough gamer that have to keep playing even when your family wants the tv, you can/will/probably have ponied up for a deticated tv. Just like an avid wii u fan ponied up the money for an external HDD drive because 32gigs ain't cutting it. (all the e-shop classics & manditory downloads to avoid crazy loading screens)

@DefHalan I get your point. I'm just saying IF the majority of Nintendo online users want more, it'll cost. But if they're good where it's at then I agree, it'll remain free.

@uptownsoul: I'm not going to have two TV's in the same room though. I like being able to play something on the GamePad while my wife can watch whatever yet we are still in the same room and can talk.

@Ryno I don't think your seeing my point.   It's a solution to a problem that has already had a solution for decades.  Ok, @Ryno you and your wife ever wanted to watch different programs airing at the same time, BUT also wanted to be in the same room & share each other's company?  If so, how did you guys manage?  In fact a lot of this very situation will be happening very shortly here in the USA and its called the NFL.

@Ryno ok so your one of the few American men age 19-65 who don't watch much tv. But you acknowledge that there are times where a husband & wife want to watch different things? But next question, Ok, so how did you solve the sound problem. I mean I'm guessing she wants to listen to what she's watching & you want to listen to what your playing, right? Oh and how do you take care of your second screen innovation since your playing on your second screen?

Let's just say it does have next-gen specs. Aside from Nintendo, Platinum and Sega, who's gonna make exclusives for the console? Publishers are more than likely gonna play it safe and release mostly multiplatform titles.

lesser known developers and games that Nintendo could make into a big deal, DQ9 style. That seems to be Nintendo's current plan.

@kkslider great point, but my guess is @Ryno was saying he didn't watch much tv at all. I don't think he was referring to cable

Smaller Developers and guys who collaborate like Sega. I will say in the postion the console its in currently Nintendo isn't making it mandatory that stuff like the Yakuza HD remake and DQ10 be ported.

My personal thoughts are that the Wii U will pick up a bit this holiday but won't hit its selling stride until Mario Kart 8. The Wii U will be my second console to back up the Xbox One and mostly a Mario Kart/Zelda/X box. Hoping next month and as we get closer to next year we see more diversity from Nintendo. Mostly want a new Punch-out.

@Sony_70 Are you getting Xbox One day one? Or at least getting it while it is at $499!? That's nuts!
I want a secondary console to back up my Wii U as well, but the other consoles are too spendy, especially the Xbox One.

Probably at launch and if not soon after early next year. The Xbox One appeals t me more than the WIi U and has much more to offer on its outset imo. $500 isn't alot for something I'll be using for the next 8-10 years.

I'll probably pick up a Wii U when X comes out.

I'd recommend waiting unless Microsoft offers bundles. Wouldn't want another 3DS, Vita or Wii U situation.

Anywho, I don't understand the need for all those big AAA titles. The crowd that would buy them would have already owned an Xbox One and/or PS4 already, so it seems pointless.

a good secondary console would be a PS3 because of the gamut of games and diminished price. I don't know how many non hardcore gamers are going to shell out money for these expensive consoles, especially with a tough economy and the fact that there is a huge library of games with the previous gen.

They don't seem to be that more expensive than the Wii U, from what I can tell. The PS4 is basically $50 more than the Wii U. Seeing how it also doubles as a multimedia device, that seems to be a much better deal than the Wii U, if you just look at features.

For what it's worth, $499 for a luxury good that lasts 8 years is pretty great, considering how (really great) phones tend to last two years and cost not much less if you want decent space. And that's without the insanely pricey data plans.

@Cyberbotv2 I don't know if a tough economy will really factor into it. Video games remained steady during the crash; heck, the industry has gotten bigger since then. When it comes to entertainment, video games are relatively cheap when compared to the likes of movies (4 tickets for the family plus food) or especially the bigger ones, like vacations. $399 really isn't much when you consider that it's about the same price as a really fancy meal (for the family).

From what I can tell, even the Xbox One with its $499 price tag has a big chance at success with the middle class, as that isn't really that much money when it can constitute an entire Christmas for some households. As for the working class, well, outside of college kids, I doubt that's really the demographic that buys video game systems at launch.

As for the PS3 being a good secondary console, it depends on the games you want. There will still probably be lots of games coming to it for years from Japan, if the PS2 is any indication, but if you want games that are more western, you'll probably want a PS4 or One. And hey, there's tons of games that are high quality and really cheap. You can't really go wrong if you don't already have an extensive collection of PS3 games.

Better games will come out and it will sell better. It won't be the number one console this gen, but it will still be profitable. That's what will happen to it.
