I'd recommend waiting unless Microsoft offers bundles. Wouldn't want another 3DS, Vita or Wii U situation.

Anywho, I don't understand the need for all those big AAA titles. The crowd that would buy them would have already owned an Xbox One and/or PS4 already, so it seems pointless.

But Unlike those systems Microsoft already has a decent line up to the end of next year. But I'm going in understanding that I may get burned. I'm also starting to learn code with Windows 8/Phone and the xbox one can run apps so it'll be nice for that as well.

To anyone else though I'd say go PS3/360.

Best case scenario: 2nd place
Worst case scenario: 2nd place

that's not a typo

I don't know, I think Microsoft is starting to win back their goodwill a little bit. I know Nintendo can get their act together and make people want to buy the system, the question is will they?

too little, too late, competing with 3D Mario + Wii U's 1 year advantage and PS4's impossible amount of goodwill and its own price tag. There is not the slightest hint of doubt in my mind what will happen.

The Wii U will be first place, because it doesn't have numbers in its name.
Depending on how you look at it, One and 4 can either be a better or worse value which is yet to be determined.

I can assign any value to the letter U :|

All joking aside, I think the Wii U will be fine. I have a generally good outlook for the Wii U and Xbox One. PS4 HAS to do well, otherwise Sony will sell more buildings and go back to Walkman as their main device as it once was.

Nintendo's consoles are always approx. 5 year machines. The wii was, I believe, 6 years technically, but it's well known that Nintendo was barely supporting the system in that last year, probably devoting most of their time to the Wii U. Unless you just started gaming this gen, you are totally used to a 5 year lifecycle. To be honest, I prefer it. There is notbing more exciting than the thought of a new console looming on the horizon and wondering what possibilities it'll contain, what worlds it'l open up.

Admittedly, this generation of Wii U, PS4 & Xbone didn't quit have that same mystique, and weren't as revolutionary when compared to the previous gen, but this is literally the first time that has ever happened.

The NES generation took us from primarily single screen games to multi screen, detailed ones.
The SNES / Genesis generation took those multi screen worlds and fully realized them, filling them with content and made them feel alive.
The n64 / playstation generation brought us into 3d, and was atleast for me, the single biggest and most exciting jump we've ever had (possibly only rivaled by the day virtual reality comes)
And from there, each system built on that to take us from the akward /blockiness of those worlds to gorgeous, bigger full worlds that felt more like our own.

While it has gotten a little stale this gen, we can only hope new breakthroughs are made, and we dont have to wait a full decade between experiencing these exciting changes.

It'll succeed eventually, at least in that it'll sell a good few million units (around the 50 million or so mark I guess). Probably won't do as well as the Wii though, since the gaming world has changed so much that I doubt ANY new console will match its predecessor sales wise. In fact, I suspect we'll see quite a shock when it comes to the Xbox One and PS4, and gamers absolutely in shell shock about how they're not exactly flying off shelves.

That's my guess anyway. That the Wii U will sell decently, the Xbox One and PS4 will sell decently, but none of them will do anywhere near as well as their predecessors.

Wii U will probably beat both PS4 and Xbox One in sales. It has the headstart, and when it will get momentum in Japan, it will be like the 3DS. Then Mario, Zelda, DK, Wii Fit etc will sell great in the states.

Best Case Scenario:
Sales pick up and the Wii U gets the awesome Nintendo AAAs, some cool exclusives, all of the important third party titles and piles of shovelware

Worst Case Scenario:
Sales are at Gamecube level and the Wii U and it gets less of the cool third party stuffs

Either way I'm happy

Well that doesn't mean Xbox One won't hit #2. PS4's good will just means its going to be most likely #1 and not have that much effect on the populance. The Wii U is still missing a ton of series and support both software/feature wise that people want and its contributed to the consoles lack of success thus far. While Mario is Nintendo;s big boy, I doubt 3D world can do what NSMBU failed to do. The Wii U head start means it'll probably have the biggest install base but I could see it being surpassed pretty easily.

Maybe's its because I work in retail but you'd be suprised at how many people didn't care about the DRM or are back on post xbox 180. The very fact that people are willing to give the xbox a second chance and that it still has public mind share is much more powerful tool than the irrelevancy the Wii U is going through.

NSMB is probably responsible for a couple of millions of units sold at launch. It did very well, and it will sell through the generation. It's just that after launch and until now there haven't been more games like that. So SM3DW if it does as good as NSMBU will double the sales of the Wii U easily.

I keep seeing people say we'll be 'shocked(negatively)' at XB1 & ps4 console sales. I've scoured the web looking for any tangible evidence of this happening. I can't find any, so am I missing something?

The thing is that that most of the mario hardcore that would buy a cardboard box as long as it plays the mario already got a Wii U because of NSMBU so I don't think SM3DWORLD can increase system sells that much..... it would sell well most Wii U owners will probablly get it and Nintendo would make money but don't really think it's going to help them much with increasing the user base

In fact I believe the ps4 & xb1 will fare far better than the wii u did last holiday & better than this holiday.  Console pre orders suggest this happening (well atleast ps4 with 1M+ preorders).  But preorders for games in USA have several ps4 & xb1 titles preorder above 100k+, and I don't think people preorder games on consoles they don't plan on playing soon after purchase. So IMO, I think by 12/31/2014 ps4 will have the largest install base of the 8th generation, thus far.

All I know is that if Wii U is gonna be GameCube 2.0, I'd like MP4 and a proper sequel to PM The Thousand-Year Door lol.
